[Weekes:] Addison being traded to Sharks

  1. It’s Daemon Hunt season boys!! He and Mermis deserve to get longer looks. Trade Merrill next please

  2. Surprised we were only able to get a 5th for him. Maybe this will be the wake-up call he needs to start listening to his coaches.

  3. I am a little upset, I was rooting for him but I know his play was not where the team wanted it.

  4. I hope this opens up the opportunity for Brock on PP2. His pinches/net driving plays at 5 on 5 seem like they would translate well to the PP.

  5. Paving the way for more Merrill and Goligoski later in the season. Just makes no sense. By the eye test and the underlying numbers he has had a good start to the season, last game notwithstanding.

  6. bummer, was hoping he could turn it around. hopefully he has a good go in San Jose. We need another tarpless D man now.

  7. Not surprised at all, writing was on the wall. I doubt we got much for him.

Sad to say the kid has been straight garbage, no improvement whatsoever, and we always had a worse team on the ice when he took a shift. I honestly think the only reason we were seeing any offensive flashes or possibilities of him being a PP specialist was because we haven’t had a true offensive talent on the blue line since Burns, maybe pre-injury Dumba.

But then Faber showed up and showed me exactly how bad Addison is, and I wasn’t impressed with Addy to begin with. Compare how Faber skates with and controls the puck to Addison, and you’ll quickly see that Addison doesn’t have any future offensive talent that we were desperate to try to cling to.

  8. Man I was excited for this kid when we traded Zucker for him and the other pieces. He was the Penguins top ranked prospect and just really flopped for us. Pretty disappointing.

  9. Seems the sharks are a dumping ground for former Wild players. Now they have Addison, Granlund, Kunin, Kahkonen, and Sturm

  10. What an odd trade on both sides. Addison is not really a defensive defenseman…

  11. Ouch. Nothing quite like getting traded to the worst team in the league for only a 5th as a testament to your play. As I said in the PGT, I really wanted Addison to be good but he got outplayed by Mermis as soon as Mermis got called up.

  12. Addison has not been impressive but…we really traded him for a 5th rounder? I’d rather keep him and hope he figures it out.

My guess is probably attitude issues and Guerin wants to dump him.

  13. I’m a bit bummed about this for Addy….but for the team overall I’m actually excited about this. Merrill next pelease.

  14. I’m not going to argue on whether or not Addison deserved a roster spot or to QB PP1—everyone’s already made up their mind on him and what he brings whether or not the underlying metrics support him improving.

However, I will argue that there appears to be little plan with BG, and there are two veteran D men still on the roster that shouldn’t see another minute of NHL minutes.

  15. A 6th round pick three drafts from now is really just a move to free up a roster slot. So Spurgeon’s return is imminent and one of Mermis or Hunt will most likely stay in the NHl the rest of the season.

  16. Player RW Raska and a 5th – good to see.

Addison gave off too much of a trailer park vibe to me. Wasn’t a fan. Plus with the stories of being difficult to coach, maybe its for the best for everybody.

  17. Regardless of my feelings on Addison specifically, I’m overall fairly concerned about what Guerin and Evason’s priorities are when it comes to player valuation. We threw him away for nothing, at a position where we need depth.

  18. Glad to see that all the hit pieces on this kid didn’t ruin his career. He’s taken everything in stride and didn’t get half the leeway that everybody else on this team constantly gets.

  19. Seems early to give up on him for pretty much nothing, but I guess if they think his window of opportunity has closed here it makes sense to get what they can for him and give him a shot elsewhere.

  20. There are some players I worry may put it together after leaving the Wild and it might haunt the team. This is not one of those players. I wish him the best, but he seems like a guy who doesn’t get it but seems to think he totally does.

  21. Turn Foligno and Hartman into 8mil (how much does Fiala make?) and a young, puck moving RHD with points into a 5th. Regardless of how they failed Calen, this is amatuer asset management and this level of craftsmanship wouldn’t survive a game of cards, let alone a 14mil dead cap scenario.
