Trevor Zegras on the block

Supposedly on the trade block, rumors circulating about the Sharks. But, this is the kind of move I’d be in favor of. Yes he’s injured and struggling this year, but he can be electric. Expiring contract and hurt, means his value couldn’t be much lower. Shouldn’t take a ransom to pry him loose. See if we can makes some moves in the off-season and resign him. Currently he’s at $5.75m/yr, less than the Spurgeon LTIR. Assuming he’s going to want a short term or bridge deal to reprove his worth. This would line up with when our cap penalties expire and we could then resign him to a full value contract if he turns it around. Him and Kirill together? Yes, please. Idk maybe I’m crazy, but this is the kind of shot I’d like to see us take.

  1. I have been daydreaming a little bit about this one…I wonder how he would fit though. Do you really see him making an impact? Where can you see him playing in the lineup? I’ll be honest I really don’t know his game. I can imagine him at least taking focus away from other players which would leave other guys open to possibly making some more plays. All that said it would at least be exciting/interesting!

  2. Nah don’t need that drama coming to Minnesota. The NHL tries so hard to make him a poster boy but a majority of fans can’t stand him

  3. His style of play goes against everything Minnesota stands for. It’s a Billl Guerin nightmare.

  4. Zegras is fiala 2.0. Seems to play for himself Good strong leadership could improve that attitude. I think it would still cost too much to be worth it

  5. I don’t go out of my way to watch teams not called the Wild. Thus my perspective of Zegras has only been from what I’ve seen when we’ve played against him.
I’ve always thought he could be a great player to have with us. I’d be down.

  6. For all the wizardry of old school Lou Lamiorello, his Cup teams required trades to solidify the roster. And they likely wouldn’t have won if they hadn’t been awarded Scott Stevens as compensation for the Blues signing Brendan Shanahan (for all the hate Bettman gets, the league was a tire fire before his arrival).

Guerin’s other GMing example is tied to having 2 franchise centers to build off of with the Penguins. Neither the Pens nor the Devils are repeatable templates.

I am not against taking a flyer on Zegras. Would have to see what it would do to the rest of the lineup.

  7. What would you give up for him? We don’t have any young person on the NHL roster we’d part with. And because of the defense question I don’t see it worth parting with any of our top prospects

  8. A 22 year old coming off back to back 60 point seasons is almost certainly going to take a significant package to trade for.

He has some high end skill for sure, but his game overall is pretty overrated because of the highlights imo. He’s a center that plays more like a wing. He’s bad in the circles and pretty bad defensively. If you’re going to give up what it’s going to take to get him, I want a guy that’s better down the middle overall.

There’s also a reason that Anaheim is willing to discuss trades for a 22 year old who has been that productive. It seems like they aren’t thrilled with his character off the ice. Other guys in the league definitely don’t seem to be found of him.

Idk I’m just not a huge fan of giving up significant assets for him.

  9. Trevor Zegras is flashy, but he’s never been a ppg player for all the more hype he gets.

Maybe that changes with good teammates, I just don’t see who/what we’d be willing to trade for him that the ducks would actually want. It feels pretty CBJ Gudreau without Johnny Hockey potential.
