what’s going on guys Andrew pilic hockey here back again with another video today we’re going to be talking about a really really uh big topic I guess you could say right now it’s swirling around Twitter or X however you want to call it Max DOI Toronto M beliefs and Max DOI are they going to rekindle those contract talks that that beauty passion that Max DOI has for the Maple Leafs was it all a show or was he actually passionate about the Leafs does he want to come back we’re going to get into all of that right now so if you guys are new here make sure to like this video And subscribe join the squad I’d love to have you guys here we talk about the map beliefs all week and uh hopefully you guys have been enjoying all the content that has been coming out but like I said there’s been a lot of news and uh it started off with a lot of notes from Pierre LeBron now we’re going to dial it back a little bit to the end of season media availability where Max doy was asked if he would like to return to the club and he’s said absolutely now mind you there’s been a few years in the past where Max doy his team his agent his whatever they reached out to Kyle dubis and every single time they reached out the map Leafs said that they were not interested in Max DOI so it’s said that he’s wanted to be a part of this team for quite some time even dating back to the previous management and I do believe that Max DOI fit in pretty well with this team once he signed on but getting back to this conversation here in Pierre LeBron’s latest piece for the athletic uh Lebron states that doy’s agent Jud moldaver and uh the Leafs have already had some conversations but no uh numbers have been exchanged even though there is mutual interest in getting a deal done so what what I’m trying to get at here is is that there is interest and the number that keeps coming out and this is where people started to get you know a little bit in a bunch here is that it would be maybe five or 6 years in the $5 to $6 million range which first of all I’m just letting you know right now is not going to happen they they’re not going to do a five or six year deal it makes no sense for that to happen it’s not likely and maybe the term could be around four or five years but at6 or5 million it’s more than likely not happening now the only reason why they they could get close to that number is because of the fact that the salary cap is going up and we’re going to take a look at Do’s work and his numbers and everything like that but what really interests me here is that Pier LeBron says and and wording is important here there’s mutual interest in getting a deal done not there’s mutual interest in having conversations to try to see where it goes they have mutual interest in getting a deal done finalized like trying to make this happen so what I’m wondering is is if they’ve already had some basic conversations about hey like what’s what’s going to happen here like does he want want to come back or do the Leafs want him back and look I I know there’s a lot of people out there that are saying oh they could just go and replace him here’s the thing who’s the best player on the Maple Leafs who’s the guy that drives the offense who’s the guy that should be the guy that takes this team further Austin Matthews who did Austin Matthews play with the best this season out of anybody and I don’t care what anybody says the answer is Max doy okay and I’m not saying give this guy a bunch of money if the map leaf are interested and the number is reasonable the map lefs have to sign Max DOI because Austin Matthews played exceptionally well with Max doy and they got really good value from Max doy for the way that he played with Austin Matthews he was dishing out assist he’s a very good playmaker the one thing that annoyed the hell out of me about him though was that he didn’t shoot the puck in Wide Open Spaces as well that really annoyed me but there needs to be a middle ground here and they need to find guys that want to play here Max DOI having that chemistry with Austin Matthews means they should probably bring him back he looked really good with him now I’m not again I’m not trying to say give him all the money but he’s 29 years old again he’s fitting into that window of the age group uh that the Maple Leaves have you can see his previous contracts here in the $3 million range then he got the 5.3 then back to3 million then another $3 million deal so yeah he’s looking to cash in on a little bit more money and I don’t blame blame him but if you take a look at his numbers he had 47 points and that was with a very slow start to the year I’m wondering if he started out with Austin Matthews if he ended up putting up like 60 points which again I don’t think is out of the ordinary and plus with with the way that he played in the playoffs Four Points in seven games for a guy that’s giving you uh you know $3 million worth of value I’m probably going to take that any day of the week now this is where it gets interesting right what does that number actually look like like if the map Leafs and DOI come up and and get a deal done here I think that it has to be four years it has to be four or five but I think that DOI probably does deserve that 4-year term and again the salary cap is going up it’s up to 7 87.7 million for this upcoming season players are looking for more money with the cap percentage going up they are looking for a higher percentage so you can’t blame the players that want more money but Max has to understand here that if the Leafs are going to get better and again this is has to be the new philosophy and I agree with what the Steve dangle podcast was saying like you have to give the same philosophy for everybody if you’re going to play here and you want to bring in more talent you have to accept less money and is that fair to Max DOI probably not but everybody that goes for everybody they have to do that and I don’t know if they will but if you want to win here you got to sign on to team Friendly Deals now I have maxed Omi at 4 million but I can easily see this number being 4.5 that still leaves the Leafs with 14.5 million without having some moves like I think Kade Weber is probably a guy that gets sent down uh Connor Timmons more than likely gets traded uh Ryan Reeves I don’t know what they’re going to do with him I think they’re going to look at a David com uh trade and then of course if they trade one of Marner or tarus that frees up quite a lot of space and I don’t know at the beginning I was beginning to think that they could sign DOI and bruzi but without trading one of those big contracts I can’t see how they sign both unless they take a pretty friendly contract which I don’t think bruzi will I think do is more likely to do that but DOI is more than likely going to get anywhere in the4 to $4.5 million range over four to 5 years and if you look at contract comparables and I know Steve dangle podcast was looking at it so I don’t I know a lot of you guys probably already watched that I’m not going to go over it again they they showed a lot of guys that DOI is better than or equally as good as that have similar deals some of them with much more expensive deals so you can’t expect the player to be like yeah I’ll take three again because you know cap friendly says so and the leaf fans think so DOI could easily go to a team that wasn’t very good or a team that’s trying to get better and go look I want $5 million over 5 years and some team is going to do it like there’s teams that are desperate for players man if you’re worried about money they can go out there and give you whatever you want if doy wants to play in Toronto which again I truly do believe he wants to play here I genuinely truly believe that I think Max will take a deal that might be a little bit friendlier to Toronto but they he might ask for that extra year on top of it so it couldn’t could end up being stretched out to 5 years but maybe that lowers the average annual value there there a little bit of a back and forth play here I personally would love to see him back he fights he hits he’s you know a guy that can get in people’s face he’s a pasted he’s annoying you know look at him like clipping swayman in the playoffs there which I again I don’t really agree with because I’m a goalie but he he’s very in tune to what the Leafs need and he played really well with Austin Matthews and if they bring back Matthews they bring back you know the core for or maybe you know Marner gets traded I don’t know what happens but I think DOI has a spot penciled in beside Austin Matthews if he resigns like guaranteed they played too well together for it not to happen so if I’m the Maple Leafs if I’m Austin Matthews I’m saying look let’s get this guy back let’s see if this chemistry can play over 82 games and into the playoffs he’s tough let’s do this and I think Brad CH living and I think even the new coach Craig baru this is a type of guy that he would love to have like right like DOI and bruzi are baru Style players so I can’t see why the Leafs wouldn’t at least look into that they don’t have to do it but I think Max doy is a fit for this team and if you want to get better you can’t just keep interchanging players and that was something that’s annoying that I love Sheldon Keefe but what he did was he kept switching the lines and he and every year dubis and and now Tre living they just bring in new guys every year and if they don’t work they just trade it out for more guys and there’s never any chemistry let’s let these guys bu build some chemistry bring back a couple of the names that we really want to see play together bring back some of those young guys that we that played pretty well and let’s see if they can build on it and then obviously they need to bring in some top end Talent as well so there’s a lot of work for Brad to do this off season but I want to hear your guys thoughts
