The Athletics’ NEW New Mock Draft

This time, they aren't predicting picks, but rather making selections if *they* were the GMs. Max Bultman joins Corey Pronman and Scott Wheeler. Of note, Pronman is picking for the Wild at 13.

13. Minnesota Wild (Pick by Pronman): Stian Solberg, LHD, Vålerenga

Minnesota was hoping to add a dynamic forward like Sennecke but is pleased to add a potential top-four hard-to-play-against type of defenseman in Solberg. We debated Adam Jiricek here, but Solberg’s end-of-season play was too convincing, and his pure compete level is among the best in the draft to go with his size, skating and solid puck play.

A Norwegian! He's currently 6'2" and 201 lbs.

With this pick, Pronman eschewed Tij Iginla, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Konsta Helenius. I think I tend to think forward with drafts if the defenseman isn't obvious. The odds that you'll see their impact in the near future is generally much higher. However, in this case I've started wondering if the Wild need to start investing in their defense corps, because the current collection isn't impressive.

  1. If Kap got his new Russian bff Khusnutdinov it’s only fair we get Zuccy a Norwegian one too.

  2. I hadn’t heard of him in any mocks, but I’m not against getting left side defense, given Brodin and Middleton is all they really have up here.

  3. If Guerin passes Iginla or MBN for another lefty defenseman he should be fired or at least Brackett should.
