JFresh is hearing that Laine wants a fresh start

What would you give up to get him at 50% cap hit instead of signing a 37+ year old veteran? Personally, I'd say he'd be an awesome addition. He can score goals and that's exactly what we need on our second line.

  1. If we keep full cap just trade them Fredrick Gaudreau, Charlie Stramel, Jon Merill Next years 2nd and 3rd

  2. I’m a huge Laine fan. his contract is huge tho, 8.7 million with 2 years left is rough. I wouldn’t give up any picks or prospects, but when he’s a UFA in 2026 I would love for the team to get him for around $7 million depending on how he is in the next couple seasons. excellent 2nd line sniper

  3. I’ve watched a good amount of Laine the last few years. He is a complete headcase, which I’m thankful he’s addressing, but I wouldn’t be willing to be the team that bets on him ever returning to form. When he’s not dealing with his depression, he’s hurt. Even with 50% retained this would be a massive risk.

  4. As with all trades it would come down to what we would have to give up. If he is healthy and of sound mind then he instantly solves our 2nd line scoring problems. But that is a lot of ifs, so I wouldn’t be willing to part with a major prospect or 1st rounder this year. But if the price is right and they retain some of his salary? I would love to add Laine!

  5. Wild was a team that suffered from injuries last year, and we saw what that did to them. this guy hasn’t played a full season since 18-19. He’s good but he just can’t stay healthy and the wild don’t need that.

  6. This is such a special case, it is hard to say. I think it would be a good fit here, mental health wise, for him. If the cost is right, and he is interested in resigning for a much lower cost, sure.

  7. I don’t want a guy who has requested a trade from 2 teams now and can’t stay healthy.

  8. I was watching draft scouting vids recently and I cant remember if it was Will Scouch or Chris Peters from Flo Hockey who was saying Laine is one of two current players who survive in the NHL purely on skill bc they actually have no idea how the NHL game is played, what their team is doing around them, or what the opposition is doing.

Laine is just a trigger-man. The team has to do everything for him to get him a shot in space for him to have any value. Every other moment he’s on the ice, youd probably rather have someone else out there. Keep in mind its been (6) seasons since he’s scored 30 or more goals. For a guy that’s one-dimensional as fuck, its not like he’s a reliably prolific scorer. And do you really think Laine is going to be there for you in the playoffs?

I wouldnt trade a 2nd round pick. If he were a UFA I would offer like 4MM for 2yr to have him as a stop-gap right now but I wouldnt want to be tied to him at all.

  9. No thanks. He has a lot of talent but has difficulty staying healthy and has moved on from two organizations in quick succession. We should worry more about developing our prospects than trading for some quick fix star.

  10. Let’s do it. Bring in Johanson too and maybe Dubois(salary retained of course). Does Kapper like clowns?
