REPORT: Ricky Pearsall IMPRESSING 49ers Coaches & Players | San Francisco 49ers News & Rumors

[Music] all right here we go welcome into the San Francisco 49ers report by Chad Sports I’m Chase senior thank you so much for hanging out here with me on today’s show and coming up we’re at this point of the off season where it’s the middle of June otaa for two weeks ago mandatory minute Camp a couple of weeks ago as well and as we look ahead we can’t really talk about the ners as a collective team on the practice field until training camp at the end of July so what I do want to do on the show is talk about the ners first round pick and Ricky peera who was selected by San Francisco with the 31st overall pick and do a report card on peaw and just a look at how he’s been fairing so far to start his NFL career first I love competition competition breeds excellence and I’m always trying to challenge myself here on this channel I’m not content with being good or great I want to continue to get better and you look at the videos from last week the most likes that we picked up on a single video it came on June 13th show 373 likes on today’s show I want to beat that number how do we do that all you got to do is hit that thumbs up icon and like the video right now as for today’s exercise rookie report card for Ricky Piel all teams holding their mandatory minute camps over the last couple of weeks for the ners it was OTAs and the mini camp and so ESPN’s team of NFL reporters submitted early observations on all first round picks from the 2024 NFL draft and that includes this man right here Nick Wagner who is the Niners beat reporter for ESPN passing along his observations on what peol has brought to the table for this ners offense so far we’re going to take a look at what Wagner had to say and of course I’m going to pass along what I think about Piera so far as a rookie here on the show Nick Wagner first on piera’s play piera’s been exactly as advertised the ners have used him at multiple receiver positions in the offense and as a putt return which is probably his best ticket to touching the ball early during his rookie year and because Brandon iuk did not partake involuntary OTAs he was not there for mandatory minute camp that is equal more opportunities for Ricky peol and I think that that is advantageous and beneficial for him we know that Kyle Shanahan is historically very hard on rookie wide receivers we know it’s a very difficult offense to pick up so the more reps that peaw can get with the first team and with the second team goes a long way in him learning the nuances of the offense the physicality of NFL play the speed of of NFL play and just getting his feet wet with what it’s like to be a pro and I will say that uh Ricky piera’s return ability is definitely going to help him see the field early Ray Ray McLoud he signed with the Atlanta Falcons this off season so the Niners did sign Trent Taylor who has a lot of return experience as a former ners draft pick he returns back to San Francisco where he’s always been best friends with George KD Trent Taylor is a very sure-handed returner he not really explosive he’s going to catch the football he’ll Dart ahead for 5 10 yards that’s safe but it doesn’t really give you much as as far as being a wide receiver Ricky piol can return punts and he can be a wide receiver and I’d say he’s a little bit more explosive while also being sure-handed as compared to Trent Taylor now as for piera’s usage and where he projects as a pro I think he’s better as a slot white out as compared to being an outside guy and I’ll expand on that throughout the show more from Wagner on peera the team wants peaw to be able to step in anywhere in case of injury and he so far has proved plenty versatile according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Shanahan said quote we’re getting him a lot of reps getting a lot of different routes trying all the positions and we’ve been really impressed with how he started off Shanahan said so a little bit of Coach Peak there but the main takeaway is that the Niners are gonna put peol all around the field to see where he fits best where he performs best where he’s most comfortable and where he can help this ners offense and ultimately what happens with Brandon auk will impact piera’s role and usage as a rookie if auk could sign to a monster contract extension then obviously you’re going to have auk Debo Jawan Jennings and Ricky piol might not play as much if the Niners trade auk away I think that says a lot about what the niners think of peol they believe that he can be a number two or number three guy right away as a rookie and going back to the point that I made a little while ago under Kyle Shanahan rookie wide receivers they’ve had a hard time seeing the field Shanahan is very particular he’s very precise he’s very demanding and what he asks for from all of his players but he also played wide receiver in college at Texas and there are things that you have to do in this offense in order to see the field routes scheme understanding the plays blocking toughness that and a whole lot more now when I Scout Pier saw this is kind of what I’ve Come Away with very experienced player in college went to Arizona State and then he transferred to Florida him and Brandon auk overlapped at Arizona state with the sundevils so peera at the college level played five years 55 games in total with 34 starts as many of us know and many of you know he’s a very seasoned route Runner he can find the soft spot in the zone he can beat press man because of his quick feet and his get off at the line again I think he’s better at doing that from the slot because he’s 61 18 9 lbs he doesn’t have a massive frame you know he’s not as big as Brandon auk he’s not as thick as Debo Samuel he is fast as far as the 40-yard dash goes 441 but also why I think he’s more of a slot I think he matches up better against slot nickel corners and linebackers than he does against really good outside corners because I don’t really see the long speed show up as far as the 44 42in vert though allows him to have that short area quickness and explosion he could certainly go up and get it climb the ladder really good body control allowing him to have an unbelievable catch radius he plays with really good timing and control the game never seems to move too fast for him does have a thinner frame which is why again I think he’s more of an inside guy but man he’s tough as Nails Niner fans are really going to like him does that toughness translate to a faster and More Physical game let’s hope so and that returnability it’s going to be value valuable for him in seeing the field right from the get-go I want you to predict how Ricky Piera Ferris is a rookie down in the comments section right now over under 500 receiving yards in 2024 for Slick Rick which is a great nickname by the way just S Type O for over or U for under as for what Nick Wagner said on the Niners drafting Ricky peaw at the time back in April regardless of the speculations swirling around their current receivers the 49ers needed to make a significant addition at wide out in this draft with Brandon iuk and Joan Jennings entering the last year of the rookie deals and Debo Samuels kept charge set the spike this year the Niners had to begin planning for the future the question now is what does it mean for the group already in place it would be wise to stick with what they have given their Super Bowl desires but drafting peaw will only heat up the rumor mill about a potential trade now that was what wag said back in April here we are June 17th this video I think is going to come out June 18th on Tuesday Niners wide receiver plans still very much unclear they did sign Joan Jennings to obviously that contract extension what happens with Brandon auk he’s on Tik Tok saying they don’t want me back any longer if peol continues to develop and he plays really well does that make Brandon iuk Expendable and could they diners trade him away get something back for him that’s a really nice package and then piol ends up seeing a lot of action during his rookie campaign more from Wagner on pea here is this a pick for depth or does it fill a hole in many ways it’s both KY Shanahan is notoriously hard on young receivers so it’s going to be difficult for peaw to get on the field right away with the offense but the ners probably won’t need him to do much immediately unless they trade one of auk Samuel or Jennings the eventual hope is that piol can be a starter but it feels unlikely that the ners will ask that of him right away more likely he’ll push to help as a returner in his rookie year so we now know San Francisco will not be trading Joan Jennings away they signed him to that contract extension which ties him to the team for two more years but keep in mind look we talk about trade rumors on this show everybody talks about trade rumors because wide receiver trade rumors for the ners are a story they’re real and somebody could still get dealt so it’s not just me it’s ESPN talking about the trade rumors as well and then lastly Wagner on peol ties to the team to know this goes to show you the Intel that the Niners got in the pre-draft process on piol by the way how’s this for a coincidence Wagner continued peol began his college career at Arizona State where he was teammates with ran and iuk while it remains to be seen whether that duo will play together next year there’s another key sundevil Tai here former Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards is one of Niner’s general manager John Lynch’s closest friends so John Lynch I imagine able to get some good Intel and information on peera from his good friend in Herm Edwards if you enjoyed Today’s show something different change of pace little report card for peol I
