right here on lock on Angels hey on today’s show what are the halos going to do at the trade deadline well Perry minasian recently gave some thoughts we’re going to get into those comments and our reaction to those and Mike Trout provided a bit of a health update on his injury and how that’s progressing we’ll tell you all about it but first you got a recap last night’s game against the Brewers it was game two on a Tuesday night the they fell six to3 but it didn’t not before it got interesting there at the end right Mike yeah it was a really boring game up until the ninth inning kid kind of half-heartedly paying attention to it and the Halos were dominated in really every part of the game up until the ninth inning they trailed six nothing up until the ninth inning the only offense for the Halos up until the ninth inning was Nolan shanell who had two hits at that point they only had five hits up until the ninth inning and then all of a sudden the ninth inning the Halos did this thing that they’ve a few times this year John they did the I guess we’re gonna try to come back again right you guys want to do it now you think now’s a good time now right now do it now so they did they tried to come back Angels got on the board after Logan ohappy scored the very first run he hit a double went to Third on a wild pitch and then Joe Adell um he he got an RBI ground out for the second run shaow well who had a really good game got an RBI single for the Third Run and then with a game tying run on Deck Lou rifo has a great bat and he walks that brings up Taylor Ward it puts the Halos in a really great position now before this at bat Taylor Ward hasn’t had a hit in about a week yeah it’s true I’m not super confident I think a lot of us were nervous and then he immediately goes down 02 watching a strike and then swinging at a strike do you prefer that over him swinging at the first pitch what do you say yeah I I’m glad that he did watch that first strike uh because that coming out and immediately swinging with with the the Brewers closer probably wouldn’t have been smart so I’m glad that he’s been listening to lock on Angels Johnny he makes contact and makes contact in the best possible way where Taylor Ward is most often successful that’s right center field going the other way hits a ball that would have been over the yellow line and S freakin freck leaps up and brings the ball back oh was so deflating to watch that ninth inning after all of the buildup and Taylor Ward to his credit he came through Johnny did what he yeah he did what he was supposed to do South freck is the new uh uh Ramone um what’s his name that Lano laurano that drives me nuts because he robbed trout of extra bases with a crazy dive and that was earlier this season I know but uh man that was you’re exactly right they handled that inning the way that they were supposed to even with two outs it would have been the game tying home run it would have put them uh possibly you know if if Calhoun comes up behind him and drives in a run or something like that uh or yeah with a home run it would have been over but unfortunate that it came down to this Mike really it would have been a much closer game had the Angels not played sloppy defense and they played sloppy defense to start this game behind Griffin canning now he was roughed up in five innings he gave up eight hits there were five earned runs and one unearned run canning also had two wild pitches in this game three of those big airs uh that happened in this game also led to some run scoring including a big air on a double that Joe Adell misplayed in the corner it Plinko out there and it got past him and so there was a little league inside the park home run you know it wasn’t it wasn’t a inside the park home run all the way it was the little leager out there couldn’t get the ball and so he was able to come home on that but that was uh that was what gave the Brewers five runs and then later on I think it was reny contas gave up that sixth run but uh at the end of the day it was uh a great comeback at the end it would have been a lot of fun but it probably should have been a lot closer right yeah they didn’t play well in the field and Griffin canning didn’t look good in this game and the the wild pitches hurt him and it just it felt like they weren’t engaged for the first eight Innings and then they they turned it on in the ninth inning what do you think it is about this young team because we’ve seen this a few times this season where they didn’t come all the way back but they started to put some runs on the board in the ninth inning do you think it’s just kind of like eh we’re just gonna finish the game do you think that the opposing team brings in the the the trash Bullpen people like what do you think this is well it’s you know Tobias Meyers has actually had some really good outings against better teams than the Angels his last two outings had been pretty good and so I was like I don’t know if the angels are going to get to him while he’s in there and the problem is Mike they let guys like that just Cruise yes and they they rarely have an issue they rarely have a problem there was hardly any traffic on the bases for him um how many times did ren heo swing at the first pitch in this one other than that last inning I mean good grief man you gotta you got to work this guy a little bit I think he ended his night on 90 pitches or so is that right I think so he I mean what what I noticed and what I put in notes before the ninth inning actually happened John was there was a lot of first pitch swinging there was a lot of watching pitches go down right the middle part of the plate there was a lot of lazy swings there was a lot of lazy approaches it really felt like the the The Lazy approach that they had in games last season that kind of reared its ugly head last night and so they gave the the starting pitcher for the Brewers a a lot of a lot of leeway I mean they helped him out I mean I think he had I think he had 60 pitches in like six Innings I mean the guy was really cruising like you said yeah 90 pitches over uh over the uh Innings that he pitched in this one um so yeah he was cruising all the way through it I’m looking at the matchups just um let me go all the way back to uh Tobias Myers versus Luis rifo yeah first pitch four seam fast ball up and in ground out you know it was stuff like that all night long and you just you can’t be doing that you got to make a guy work so Mike I think to answer your question the original question of you know what changes as the game progresses for these young guys well number one I think they’re just happy to get rid of the guy who’s been dominating them all game but number two it almost seems like the the the uh what am I thinking the approach changes um halfway through the game or what have you where it’s like okay maybe I should see a couple of pitches maybe I shouldn’t go after that first pitch or hey maybe if it’s in the strike zone I should go after it because you’re right there some pitches right down the middle that they were looking at it just seems like they were it was one of those things where it’s like you could flip a coin and are you choosing heads or tails and the angels just chose wrong every single time yeah and I don’t know if that would you know chalk it up to immaturity or if you just chalk it up to a bad approach I think that it’s probably a combination of a few of those things but then to see them put together a really great ninth inning and and start to hit with runners in scoring position they were 0 for six before they entered into the ninth inning and then they just got some momentum and the moment was on their side and even getting to the Brewers closer even though they didn’t score runs I mean Ward crushed that that pitch and it took a whole lot of luck and a lot of athleticism to win this game for the Brewers last night so there there’s there’s a lot of lot of excitement about the game last night even though the Angels lost because if we’re going to lose these are can I say fun ways to lose like well yeah I guess I guess the thing here is that you know some of the issues that were on the field were the young guys and night night after night you and I have said hey at least it wasn’t the young guys who screwed it up it’s always somebody out of the bullpen it’s always like a veteran guy yeah cring them the game this one’s on the young guys and right and the young cats they have to defend better they got to play better defense and they got to do better out there I’m sure there’ll be a uh a talking two and I’m sure that they’ll have one of their classroom sessions but it’s definitely a learning experience because hey this one this one did fall in your shoulders this time what do you say you’re wash you’re in the locker room and you’re having a classroom session with them after this game what are you saying to him right now I’m going to say uh where did these guys come from because that hasn’t been you for the last last week or so and it’s true they’ve been playing I mean behind Zack Pac on Monday night great defense and they’ve been playing really good defense lately and making really smart decisions and so you know I could see Joe Adell miss playing that one in the corner that’s a tricky Corner that could really happen to anybody out there um and we’ve seen that plenty of times as as Angel fans from other teams but at the same time you got to be smart about that stuff and so I think they’re going to have that conversation you have to protect that corner and and that’s the thing like think about it in a basketball sense like when you’re playing defense against somebody and you’re playing on them the the thing that you can do is either you could have your feet right at shoulder shoulder width in front of them or you put one foot in front of you and one a little bit behind you because then it gives you the ability to Pivot if they’re going to try to go around you right one is full on defense the other one is a little bit of protection mode and I think when it comes to the corners at Angel Stadium you almost have to play a bit of protection there because the guy flying around the bases anyway right and so you you got to know that it’s G to hit that and so you you position yourself in a way where if it goes and hits the wall and just gets stuck then you can run up and grab it or if it plink goes out you’re still in front of it Joe was completely turned around and had his back to the infield and that’s where he got into trouble because he was over aggressive trying to get it and listen he’s been playing some great defense so I give him all of his flowers because he has been great out there but this was a mistake he he really wasn’t playing to protect he was playing trying to maybe potentially throw the runner outout at second and or third now that’s not to say there weren’t some great plays there was a great throwout at home and and things like that so it’s not like everything was all bad but it was the reason why this game wasn’t closer in the ninth inning in fact it might have been a winning home run robbery if the angels hadn’t given up so many runs across the uh the first couple of innings there well yeah so like when they threw the runner out at home and andto had a great play there then the very next batter they they threw a wild pitch and that scored the second run right and so it almost was like well that that’s mute now like that point is gone like yeah that great defensive play gets erased and so canning didn’t help himself either by being Wild on the mound and didn’t help his his boys they weren’t able to score any runs because of that too kind of sets the tone for the whole night when you’re starting pitcher it was kind of it was a Patrick Sandoval kind of a night but it was for Griffin canning this time yeah where he was sloppy it kind of made everybody else sloppy hey thanks for making lockdown Angels your first listen every single day the Angels play the finale against the Brewers tonight 6:38 Pacific time you can catch every pitch talked to reporters uh specifically Jeff Fletcher reported on it and said it’s too early to talk about the trade deadline but he also said that he’s talking about everybody Perry said the guys with expiring contracts are easier to talk about guys like Estes and Garcia were examples that uh Jeff Fletcher gave he said however Perry said the guys that have more control and can be a part of this team moving forward that’s more difficult and we’re going to take it Case by case now Jeff passon he reported last week that the Halos were asking for giant Returns on players like Joe Adell and Taylor Ward and as for the timeline the general timeline for when the angels are going to compete again Perry minasian didn’t really take the bait he didn’t say too much he said obviously there’s a lot of season left to talk about next season and the season after that for me doesn’t necessarily make sense I believe we’ve played better of late hopefully we can continue to do that stay consistent do the Small Things learn from our mistakes it’s all the same things that they’ve been saying all year long right which I have over the last they had the team had over the last month or so uh he said we’re doing a better job correcting things quicker we’ll see where it goes Perry also said we have to develop our own players to go where we want to go we have to develop young players there are some young players that we are really excited about John there’s a lot here and so I’m gonna need your help do you do you have like detective senses here can you maybe I got just a thing hold on C can you okay John’s John’s out of frame at a moment if you’re uh listening on the audio side I just need him to be detective John yes the detective hat here we go that’s right John Hat’s in bad shape read between the lines do an investigation detective John what are you yeah you have to tip it a little bit all the towns and all yes so I I need you to read between the lines here tell us what Perry is saying and what you think this means for the Halos when he talks about you know it’s really hard to talk about the young players and whatnot it just makes me believe Mike that they’re not going to move on any of the guys that they should really consider like Luis rifo Taylor Ward those types we even mentioned like Patrick sandal is a good one to listen on and look you don’t have to move them they don’t have to be moved this season but what you’re sacrificing is a year and a half of control for guys like Ren heo and guys like Tyler Anderson now Tyler Anderson’s not old but or not young but he’s also on an expiring deal next year so there’s a year and a half with him too but now is the time to sell high and I just feel it in my heart of hearts yes they’ll do the right thing maybe they’ll get rid of the EST ases and the drwes and the Garcia and whatnot but to not listen on guys that will be here next season that that that to me is what Perry is saying here is is that oh we got a lot of guys and you know talking about next season doesn’t really make sense of course it makes sense of course it makes to talk about next season Mike this is why the angels are in the state that they’re in they don’t make the moves they need to make to invest in the longterm they’ll make the short-term moves they’ll do the expiring one-year deals that’s how we got Mickey moniac but you know what else we did we traded Brandon Marsh a guy who had years of control for a Logan ohappy Y and and Logan ohappy got into a couple games at the end of that season and then he played last season and this season you have to think about the future and so for him to talk about we have to develop our own players to go where we want to go then you got to trade the players that aren’t going to be here for when you get to where you want to go does that make sense I mean yeah the fact is they’re not going to be competitive within the next two years I think that they have a lot of growth to do now they could surprise some people of course but if Perry minasian thinks that things are going to turn around this season that’s ridiculous if he thinks they’re going to be different next season well that depends on what they do in free agency and also he’s not going to be here next year until he gets a contract extension so I say all that because they always do this they never think longterm they never think about oh who could we who could we trade that has some value now like even Joe Adell Mike they’re talking Robert Murray reported the other day that they’re listening on Joe Adell and I think that’s great they’re listening they’re listening on that I don’t think they should trade Adele because I think that he fits within the competitive window he could make the the argument that his value has never been higher and now’s the time to do that but guys like Taylor wart his value has never been higher Ren he’s value has never been higher Tyler Anderson to me is an easy trade a year and a half of control for somebody that is having the best season since his Dodger season two years ago that’s an easy decision to make and I think that they need to be listening on all fronts you and I even talked about it maybe you even listen on Reed deers now he’s 24 he’s young he’s working on things I don’t think that he there’s no urgency to move him but if you get shocked by the return that somebody wants to give you for him then you do it and and so I’m afraid that if they aren’t having these conversations then that’s going to be a big mistake for this team Johnny Victor roas friend of the pod on angelswin is of course angelswin.com he had said something uh last week that I thought was really interesting he said they they need to do something different right and so I think what happens often is that we we love our dudes love our guys we love our players and we’re like well I don’t know if I would and I don’t know if this guy and those conversations are appropriate and I think as fans we’re going to have those conversations but I think that what we’re getting down to and I think what detective John has just said to us is that they need to investigate all of it they need to do something different they need to approach it in a different way that doesn’t mean that that’s the right way but there has to be a new way how they’ve been doing things the last 10 to 15 years hasn’t worked you’ve only made the playoffs once once every other time you’ve gotten close you’ve gotten wiped out at the end of the season and you haven’t been over 500 in a few seasons and so now it’s time to actually do something different to approach this different to think outside of the box in a very different way you need to have people who are not in this organization giving you wi wisdom because time in erodes your awareness of things and that’s what’s happening with the angels right they are so eroded they are so believing the uh the the f narrative the statun media it’s time to change some things and that’s what’s concerning about these comments from Perry is there’s not too much substance but then there’s also a bit of like they’re gonna just do the same things they’ve been doing right yeah yeah they’re gonna do the same things over and over again and that’s not the way you get where you want to go I will say that an all pitcher draft that’s thinking outside the box yes that’s something different Perry shown how to do it even the Logan o hoppy trade Perry has shown that he has the ability to make some really interesting outside of the box decisions and some of those decisions have been pretty successful yeah and when you think about the all pitcher trade yeah you know not everybody’s in the majors yet but remember that was just three years ago so I don’t understand why you would think every pitcher needs to be in the majors I’ve seen that argument going around I’m like that’s not a good barometer for if a draft was good or not and like I said the other day Mike the Angels probably got they probably hit on 10 out of 20 of those picks and two of them aren’t in the organization anymore so they probably hit on eight decent arms are any of them the ace that they need for the future probably not I think Chase silth is going to be the best out of that class Sam Bachmann’s looking pretty good now that he’s healthy but he could get hurt again now when Perry says we have to develop our own players to go where we want to go that gives me some encouragement because it shows that yeah he understands the situation but again you got to trade these pieces that aren’t going to be part of your competitive window and you’ve got to listen on the guys if you’re not gonna if you’re not going to extend to Luis rifo for his prime age 27 to age 30 years then trade him because if he’s not part of your future then you really should get the most value that you can out of him right now and that’s not me saying I want to see him traded I want to see him on this team I prefer that he gets an extension because I think he’s just now entering his prime it’s funny somebody told me that all he needs is playing time consistently from the beginning of the oh it was you and me Mike we said that um and I say that because if you don’t plan on keeping him around then you got to make a decision and you got to make that decision sooner rather than later and later is next season when he’s got half a year on his contract you can get much more reward for trading him now than you would next season the search for insurance is difficult the Search for really listen you can’t just put that money under the mattress you got to report that stuff yeah yeah Mike so if you need help call 1 800 549000 or visit the website TN usa.com lockon Johnny let’s talk about Michael Nelson trout yesterday he said that his recovery from meniscus surgery is going slower than he anticipated he hasn’t started running yet and doesn’t have a timeline for his return trout has been on a treadmill and a stationary bike and it’s trying to get to the point where there’s not too much sorness the next day he also said he’s trying to learn his lessons from years past where he might have tried to rush back too quickly now we would love to have trout back but I do have a question for you John is Trout’s absence actually a benefit to the young guys on this team what are you getting at Ian I’m what’s your thought with trout there there’s always a I’m going to see what he’s going to do I’m going to wait for him to come through similar to when Tory Hunter was there or when Albert phol was there trout would tip the cap to them let them lead right do you think him not being in the lineup do you think him not being out there on defense has been a benefit to defensively Joe Adell in the lineup offensively to Zack Netto those guys are like well we can’t wait for trout to come up yeah we have to come through we can’t wait for trout to make the diving catch I’m gonna have to do that do you think that there’s a benefit for not having Mike Trout in this lineup and out there defensively if that’s the way you want to look at it I think then then yeah that’s definitely been demonstrated because yeah you can’t rely on trout to do everything for you just like you can’t couldn’t rely on so Otani last year the last couple years to do everything for you and so really it comes with the territory Mike this is the young course team right now and yeah you got veterans like polar and Calhoun and things like that but at the end of the day this comes down to the young guys and their success on the field is the team success at this point and sometimes it’s one of them sometimes it’s all of them together like that night in Houston where they all hit home runs and yeah did it in their in the ages the order of their ages right and there are moments like that where baseball’s one of those games where yeah sometimes it’s just the one guy who wins you the game and they’re the guy of the game right but at the same time the the young core if they want this team to have any success it’s all been on them this season and with trout out of the lineup and and not on the field I think there is a benefit I think there is uh something to that now that’s not to say that it’s Trout’s fault or trout is in the way or anything I think it’s I always talk about it little brother syndrome where you and I played on the same softball team and I wasn’t very good and then I would fill in for somebody else’s team and I was like Ken Griffey Jr out there and you you would watch and go where’s that John on our team right I’ve brought that up many times before because I think it’s a real thing I think sometimes you rely on the people around you and in a sense it kind of takes away your own confidence or it kind of you might be intimidated by the people around you and when you’re playing with the best player in the game and Mike Trout and historically has been one of the best players in the game then maybe that’s a little bit intimidating but I go back to the idea that if these guys want success they realize now without Mike Trout that they’re going to have to be the ones to do it now he comes back how do you help them to continue to do what they’ve been doing when he’s gone I think they’re already in the habit of doing it I think that you know they’ve had some time away without Mike Trout they haven’t had him on the team for a while and he’s still in The Dugout and he’s still helping them out during home stretches and Home Series and things like that but the fact is he is is always going to be a benefit but they they’ve been doing this now for what’s it been uh month and a half two months since he got hurt they’ve been doing this now and look I know I know they still have a losing record but I I see the young guys playing Better Baseball overall probably since like the middle of May honestly and I know guys have struggled here and there and they go through their slumps I know Joe Odell’s really slumping offensively right now but it’s up to the young guys to play better baseball and I think they have been playing Better Baseball not every loss has been on them like we talked about earlier where yeah the loss kind of fell on those guys last night they didn’t have a lot of offense going they had some errors in the field and whatnot but they’ve been doing this long enough now to where I think if trout comes back I think it’s only going to add to their success and so now it’s hey it’s our success with trout now trout is part of this success it’s not Trout’s success whether they win or lose anymore it’s it’s the whole team and I think it took some time for them to understand that I think it took some time away from trout for these young young guys to understand that so I’ll be interested to see what happens but what are your thoughts yeah I I agree with you I I would love to see two things one Mike Trout come back when he’s fully healthy and this team doesn’t need Mike Trout in the sense that they’re not trying to play for anything right now so I think he needs to take his time unfortunately that’s been kind of the narrative the last couple of years he’s a slow recovery guy like not his recover yeah well but like the calf strain in 2021 what the heck was that like that took him out the whole season what are we doing I just think that we have to acknowledge like he’s older and and I mean I’m a 44 year old guy who then like gets winded if I go racing my kid down the hallway right and so um and I’m not athletically inclined that way so I just think that we have to be patient with that I think the second thing is I I really think that this team and I’m not advocating for any sort of move with Mike Trout however I really think that this team desperately needed this time without him on the field and in the lineup and I think that they’ve proven that they are some leaders that are rising up and so I would want to make sure if I’m the manager of this team I would want to make sure that the space and the grace is still given to those guys who have risen like when trout comes back I would say to him even though he’s Michael Nelson trout I would say to him we’re a different team bro and I need you to recognize that yeah I think he’ll recognize that I think that he’s a gracious person he wants to see these young guys succeed I think that that’s what made him excited to play this season and it made him excited to say before the season started that hey I’m an angel and I want to win with this team I think the young guys have a lot to do with that hey thanks for making locked on Angels your first listen of the day the Angels play the Brewers 6:38 Pacific time Tyler Anderson is on the mound The Los Angeles Angels fell short against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night despite a 9th-inning rally that came very close to a tie game. Taylor Ward hit what would’ve been a game-tying home run, but Sal Frelick ended the game with an incredible home-run-robbing catch that left everyone stunned. It would’ve been a much closer game in that 9th inning had it not been for 3 crucial errors the Angels made earlier in the game, with one such error coming from a Jo Adell misplay in the right-field corner. Griffin Canning also had a rough night, with costly wild pitches and 8 hits surrendered. We’ll tell you how it all went down in segment 1!

Then, General Manager Perry Minasian spoke to the media about the upcoming trade deadline and discussed which players the Angels might be willing to part with. His company line was mostly things we’ve heard all before, but, does this indicate that the Angels don’t plan on building toward the future and listening on stars with longer contracts who could net them a big return? We’ll discuss it all in segment 2!

Plus, Mike Trout gave an update on his slow recovery to the media, and it got us to wonder; has this young team benefitted from his absence? What do we mean by that? We’ll tell you in segment 3!

  1. Very rare you come back from 6 runs in the 9th but the halos did try and didn't quit 😢….a fighting effort and a great catch by the brewers to stop our angels 😢

  2. Hey Jon and Mike, would it be time to talk about Ward's decline this season? He looks absolutely disinterested at times whether at the plate or on the field.
At times he looks to have an even longer golf swing than Matt Thaiss. Maybe he's trying to drive his trade value down in order not to have to move house to another city mid season?

  3. Sad to hear that my favorite player as a kid passed away. I loved pretending to be him during our neighborhood games. The greatest all around player I ever saw. He often took the time to play stick ball with kids in his neighborhood. You could tell he loved the game and fans seemed to love him. Great player and great man. Sad to see him go, but in a small way it seems a little fitting that the great #24 left us in ‘24. RIP Willie!

  4. Perry doesn't want to get fired… if the Halos finish with 65 wins he's gone, but if they get to 75 wins, he can tell Arte, the team is poised to make a playoff run in 2025. So, he's probably not going to trade Anderson. Why should Perry worry about setting up the NEXT GM for success.

  5. Fantastic show guys. For the past 10-15 years, this front office is the very definition of Insanity. Like Rojas said, time to wipe the slate clean and try something different because what they've been doing isn't working.

  6. I think your comments about the trade deadline are spot on. The problem is the Angels lack a plan. Let’s say hypothetically that they wanted to build a team to be first in the west and go to the playoffs in 26, 27, 28. That is their winning window. Don’t you take a look at the guys you currently have and project forward how well they will play in those years and then you make changes through trades to continue to improve that winning window. Seems like that would be the approach to take which could mean extending some players, but it could also mean trading some pieces now to get better pieces for that future. And frankly, that might mean trading a Mike Trout who will be older than he is now for somebody younger to help us compete in that winning time period. You need to have a realistic appreciation of where you currently are, and a plan to get to where you want to be, and set the pieces in motion to allow that plan to come to fruition. But, there is no plan. Had there been a plan last year, maybe they would’ve traded Shohei Ohtani and picked up the pieces they needed for the future. But there is no plan.

  7. If the Angels get a return that is mind blowing in a trade, it means every player is in the shopping cart. The Angels need to shop for a championship not for mediocrity. You can also throw in all coaches and personnel in the whole organization in the cart to move toward a championship! This organization needs major changes!

  8. When the angels get a new owner they will be on their way to being competitive… until then they will not be a factor 😕😢 in the American league 😮

  9. you know I’ve been all in on getting rid of the veterans with expiring contracts unless you plan on giving them a contract renewal

But I disagree about Trading Rengifo and Ward. To me those are two of the young guys you build around and since you’re losing your years of control, they should be negotiating contract renewals with those guys.

I started banging the drum on resigning Ohtani three and four years ago. I think both Ward and Reneau have shown that they have really high ceilings and when you build out the rest of the lineup or the rest of the lineup develop around them, they are only gonna get better .

It’s the same argument I made with trout and Ohtani. As great as they were, they were rarely in the same lineup together they almost always gave the opponent the opportunity to pitch around them.

  10. Angels have no choice but to trade away their talent. You win in windows– Taylor Ward turns 31 this year. Anderson turns 35. Regnifo will be 28. Adell's numbers and struggles represent his historic numbers. Canning is a good #5 starter and nothing more. Sandoval doesn't win the games he pitches and is a head case. Estevez is very replaceable. Drury's contract is expiring. Pillar is 35 and at the end of his career. No one in the bullpen is a long term solution– except for maybe, maybe, Joyce? The Angels need to be realistic where they're at in their covert rebuild and in evaluating their talent. We don't have a single position player in the minors close to being an every day player– NOT ONE. So how will this team compete over the next two-years– they can't. The Angels need to plan for three seasons from now. Rendon's contract will be gone– that's $38M a year. Load up on prospects now that can join O'Hoppe and Neto in three-seasons. Holding on to players the way we did with Ohtani will set us back years. Even at last year's deadline the Angels were offered the number three prospect in baseball– Tampa's stud third baseman. He would have plugged in nicely beside Neto– and if the Angels now draft JJ. Wetherholt to play second they'd have their infield set for the next 10-years. The Angels should take Konnor Griffin in the draft– he's a 6'4" 215lb shortstop that could switch to third– and he's the best prep player in the country and the best overall talent in the draft— so of course the Angels won't draft him because they refuse to wait the three-years to develop him.

  11. I do love the fight in this team . . . No matter how many times some of our starters put us in an early hole . . . Grif, I'm looking at you . . . we never give up. I think that speaks to the emerging character of this team.

  12. I'm actually extremely stoked about what we're seeing from this team right now. You cannot tell me there isn't a spark that's lit under all of or most of these guys. Watch Neto next time he goes ya-ya, nothing but a dawg in his eyes. Same thing with O Hoppe, Moniak, Adell when they're performing well. They're determined to flip the script and we all have to believe in our guys just as much as they do. There's a team every year that has this crazy "Cinderella" story, the Angels IMO are that team this year. Generational player leaves to "rival" team, new coach with a winning/leading mentality gets brought on and fires everyone up, star player(s) injured when getting hot, and being basically baseball's most laughed at team because of the way our FO operates. This team is starting to learn how to compete and win games, I wouldn't be surprised if they give everyone a run for their money in September/October.

  13. I say we keep Rengifo and extend him trade Ward Andreson estevez Drury garica Moore Strickland and get as much return as we can gives us options on this off-season coming up as well this season is cooked might as well lite it on fire and do something to help for the future I'd rather roll the dice on new players than keep the ones we have they should not touch Neto Ohoppe silseth Detmers or Schanuel
