Are the Milwaukee Brewers at a Championship Level After Another Series Win?

the Milwaukee Brewers keep churning out series after series they’ve won their fourth Series in a row are they playing on a championship level I mean a World Series Championship level we’ll get to that coming up next here on lockdown Brewer you are locked on Brewers your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day well the Milwaukee Brewers just continue to go out since getting swept in that three- game series at Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago two weeks ago be exact on this night the Brewers have taken four straight series they climbed 14 games over the 500 Mark at 44 and 30 they’re playing well they’re winning games but are they playing on a team when you look at this team do you feel man this team is up there with the Dodgers and the Phillies and the Yankees among the great teams in baseball we’ll get to that cing up next here on lockon Brewers check free being your host here on lockon Brewers part of lockon podcast Network we are your team every day today’s episode of lockdown Brewers brought to you by tax Network USA did you know it’s never too late to resolve your tax issues with the IRS don’t wait reduce your tax debt get the help from the team of licensed professionals call 1 1800 549 1000 visit TN usa.com lockon Brewers did win the game two- nothing against the Angels uh again their fourth straight series Freddy Peralta was great on the hill again six Innings three hits Brian Hudson came in and did his work as he always does and then Mill finished up in the ninth inning and against a team like the Angels I’ve said this against every team they’ve played at least on the road go in and try to take two or three you don’t want to get swept if the opponent like at Angels would take a two or three you know take two or three from you you don’t panic you don’t fret you just move on to the next series and you know there’s never been any Panic with the Brewers at any time this year I don’t think we’ve been a panv at all even when the Yankees came into amfam field several several weeks ago and put up 15 runs on a Saturday and a Sunday we didn’t uh you know they bounced right back and and the Brewers continued the train and they Contin to have a wide lead in the uh in the division in the NL Central so my question is are are the Brewers in that same category as the Phillies the Dodgers the Yankees I don’t think they’re quite on that Championship level just yet yes they got the record I mean they’re not going to catch the Phillies for the best record of the National League Phillies are like six games ahead of them that’s not happening they’re right there with the Dodgers I would love to see the Brewers avoid that wild card game by all means but the Brewers I would think needs a few upgrades to get to that Championship level sure the record indicates it you know they’re well ahead in the division they’re 14 games over the 500 mark But do I look at this Brewers team like I do like the 2018 team the 2011 team I even thought the 2008 team with CC I even thought that had a championship flavor type team and they should have gone better further than the wild card that year but I don’t look at this Brewer team maybe even being one of the top 10 teams in Brewers history right now I don’t uh I don’t see that at all with these guys uh right now but I think within a couple of UPG now that’s not saying they can’t win a World Series Championship but when you look at a team when you look at a a team that could that has that World Series type flavor type team you look at them and say well that team has got the it Factor you know you look at the Yankees they see man they got it Baltimore you could even look with them and see especially with burds that uh the Dodgers of course even though the Dodgers I think should be playing better than they are you know they’ve gone through some injuries and all that um you know they’re lurking you know 15 games over the 500 Mark and lurking but I think a lot of people thought the Dodgers were going to run away at the division and of course the Phillies are great and they’ve been Championship Contender the last two years uh the Brewers are Maybe that NE next Notch below those teams you know they’re the Brewers are definitely one of the best teams in baseball okay now Freddy Peralta is pitching like an ace and I know some of you guys are down on him but this is the reason why I don’t think the Brewers are on a championship level right now number one something we talked about earlier in the week they don’t score enough with Runners and scoring position I mean tonight they win two nothing but man they just live on the edge so many times and this goes back to last year where you know this season could end in a heartbeat they get the Wild Card playoffs it could end in a heartbeat like it did last year you know you work six months for that to get into the playoffs and then you’re out in 27 hours to the Arizona Diamondbacks uh it could happen but then again they could be the team that catches fire in October remember we like we always say we been we’ve found this from past examples it’s not how necessarily how you play June or July and August and September it’s what you’re doing in October and Arizona got hot at just the right time as we saw now uh the Brewers uh you know you look at that rotation even though some of those guys that rotation are pitching on a championship level all right I mean I love Tobias Meyers Colin Ray’s given him a ton uh and you know Freddy is pitched like a number one I would say this team I would feel better about this team winning a championship if they had Corbin Burns and a healthy Brandon Woodruff at the top of the rotation you add those two to the top of the rotation and I think you know you got something there I feel like they’re a couple of hitters away from a championship level uh I I’m a little concerned about the right field spot right now you know they have four outfielders right now per other than Yelich Perkins freck Mitchell when he’s healthy and cherio who’s starting to starting to uh produce get some big much better at bats for cherio as of late thought one tonight he thought maybe was going to go over the fence drove the guy to deep right center field with a man at first but you have other than y yelli your left fielder Perkins freck Mitchell and chel doesn’t sound like Championship flavor just yet okay now you need fre to kick it up as I’ve mentioned uh Perkins great defense I don’t see him as a you know a championship level a guy on the championship level who you can count on U Mitchell still an unknown and chrio maybe too young at this point so a couple of those Outfield spots Yi yeah I look at he’s been there done that mvp uh Yi I’m good with in left field but I think some of those other guys are still on an unproven level to me to take this team to a championship level now a lot will determin here in the next couple of months on some of these guys I think freck has got to raise his game Perkins if he’s able to has got to raise his game I I’m thinking Frey could raise his game you know he a lot of potential high draft pick yes uh Perkins we’ll see cherio whatever I got a cherio here this rookie year good enough for me um and I’m I’m so far I’m satisfied with we’re getting out of the guy because I know 20-year-old hitter in there I know it’s uh there’s a learning curve there and with Garrett Mitchell when he’s healthy he’s great well I wouldn’t say great great I mean Allstar when he’s healthy he’s good I just don’t know if yet he’s of that Championship level so I think the Outfield kind of hurts them and that all leads back to getting clutch hits guys with Runners and scoring position the Brewers last year did this they live too much on the edge you know get to the six seventh inning and you all know that as Brewer fans and I’m not dumping on the Brewers whatsoever I’m just being real with y’all the Brewers last year you know living on the edge one nothing two nothing going into the late Innings you know one of those type of games um and and then the end the night it was one nothing for the longest time and then they tacked on another run uh but still um I feel like the Brewers need better clutch Hitting Some Guys in that Outfield got a produce a little bit more and the pitching will continue to be as good as it is the starting pitching like I said I’d feel better with Burns and Woodruff on the top of that rotation obviously you wouldn’t have Ortiz but if you’re asking me if if I to win a World Series right now I would take Burns over Ortiz for this year if I had to win if I’m all in on this year of course you would long term of course you’d you’d want Ortiz but for this season and the way the season Burns is having with Baltimore I would take Burns over Ortiz just for this season alone don’t be going down that road with that long-term stuff I get that but I’m saying for this year to win me a championship this year I would take Burns over Ortiz so with that said yeah I I think the Brewers are just below but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen we got several months to get better okay they’re 14 games over some of these guys on the Outfield the the ruers in scoring position and we’ll see what they add on this team and if those additions can help create some good things for this lineup we’ll see what they have up their sleeve will they trade one of those guys would they trade one of those Al feelings we’ll we we’ll get to that coming up here in a little bit check freen here on lockon Brewers part of lockon podcast Network we are your team every day lock on Brewers you get us 7 days a week here on the lockon podcast Network all right then broadcast on SiriusXM the sxm app search Brewers and that’ll give you all 162 of Brewers baseball on Sirius and the Sirius XM app believe me it’s not only great for baseball it’s great for All Sports SiriusXM you’re truly a firm believer of that and hey man like I said nothing like coming out of amfam field late at night 8:30 or I should say 10:30 at night and you got a West Coast game as you’re driving through a Wisconsin night it’s a beautiful thing um all right this crowded Outfield spot for the Milwaukee Brewers Perkins freck Mitchell chrio and then of course Yelich Yelich untradeable chel untradeable Perkins frelick Mitchell and some of you would say freck is untradable at this point but if you could get a really big piece and to hear from you on this if you could get a a huge piece now there’s different levels of pieces the Brewers will be going after obviously there’s there’s a the a listers the B listers and the Brewers are usually settling for the SE listers no disrespect to any of those guys but the Carlos Santas of the world with the Brewers got last year nice pickup but that’s what the Brewers settle for okay that’s what they settle for but I thought Mike mustakas a couple of years that was an a-lister they went out and got him obviously years ago CC that was an a-lister you’d have to give up like freeli if among other things if you wanted an a-lister if you went for it this year I’d be really hesitant to give up on sale made another great catch up against the wall on Taylor Ward on Wednesday night I’d be really hesitant but for those of you who are saying yeah the Brewers need a big piece out there you’re not giv it up Jake mazowski who won another game helped pitch buxy to a shut out on Wednesday night you’re not giving up him teams might be asking for S Frick and would you go down that route I threw that out there last year I kind of threw it out there a little bit and I got some heat for it but after a year I settled in on that would you go after an aister somebody’s rental or maybe for a couple of years experience I’ll tell you what I like that Tyler Anderson who I saw last night I talked a little bit about him last night you know the way he changes his emotions his speeds and all that I I like them guys won six games on a crappy baseball team I’d love to see that left-hander with the Milwaukee Brewers seemed like he had things going here keeping the Brewers off balance uh thir I believe it’s 13 million a year for the next three years so that’s an affordable deal that’s an affordable deal man getting a guy like that have to think about it guys are gonna I think that guy’s got some real good upside to him the best has yet to come for Tyler Anderson I might think about it with s frelick to get a guy like Tyler Anderson he’s gonna be dealt by the angels all right there’s going to be people coming in and giving some good prospects up for Anderson now if you’re the Brewers would you do that because he’s the kind of Brewer you’d like to have under control for three years at a nice price just like the Brewers signing reys Hoskins for you know 12 million nice price fits into the category right once the guy makes 20 million well you’re not gonna sign him like a Willie Damas so but I would have to think about that Tyler Anderson I was watching him pitch tonight paid special attention there’s a lot to like about that guy a lot to love he pitched great against the Brewers tonight so but sit on that i’ like to hear your comments you know comment below here my YouTube page uh YouTube search YouTube uh locked on Brewers hit the Subscribe button hit the bell and please comment above or comment below also hit me up on on Twitter Chuck Freeman F re m u n d would you be willing to move freck can I read your comments every day we’ll pick up some interesting ones tomorrow here on the show uh Hernandez out off the roster I told you this last night uh on the broadcast or the podcast that dropped this morning I said you know what Hernandez was has just been bad with the Brewers I could see them DFA him and I even I think I even joke they said they might even do it tomorrow and certainly they have Hernandez just bad got rid of him seen enough of him just not good at his in his outings with the Brewers so Hernandez DFA who knows he might come back with uh and sign you know and and choose the minor league option on that deal but DFA him that was the way to go uh junis apparently is on his way back we’ll see where he fits into the equation and a few other guys as we know um there was a little update that Sophia gave on the broadcast tonight about certain guys on the men Robert Gasser man it sounds like he’s possibly hitting for surgery but obviously he’s not coming back next year but in the immediate future junis is coming back and uh we’ll see where he fits in then exactly W me uh when I saw him the little I’ve seen of him in the spring I’ll just say that uh Tyler black welcome back to the roster along with Bradley block they uh brought two up to uh the parent team and we’ll see where Tyler black goes from here on in uh coming up tomorrow on the show Tim Dillard made something a great point tonight on the broadcast uh why can’t middle relievers be on the All-Star Game why why the heck can’t they one of the Brewers best pitchers one of the huge keys to their success is Hudson Brian Hudson out of the bullpen was great again on Wednesday night we’ll talk more about that on the show tomorrow Chuck Freeman here on lockon Brewers part of lockon podcast Network does not include kids fixes Chuck frean here on lock on Brewers part of the locked on podcast Network all right the Brewers now go to San Diego and you look at the lead the Brewers have in the division right now uh there were some games how about the how about the Dodgers by the way having some problems with Colorado got beat by Colorado should have beat him last night got screwed by the umpires uh the Brewers as of right now seven and a half games lead on the St Louis Cardinals who dropped a couple in a row Pittsburgh at eight games out Cubs eight and a half out despite winning the last two games they beat San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon Cincinnati at nine out Cincinnati 35 and 39 I keep thinking the reds are going to make a charge but man nine games out certainly not insurmountable and certainly a seven and a half game lead on St Louis is not insurmountable we got a long way to go in this division a long long way to go but ideally ideally it’d be great to see the Brewers get that two seed in the National League I don’t know if it’s too early to talk about it I look at the standings every day when I wake up I just look at the standings and I first of all I look at the standings and I see the Milwaukee Brewers and I just glow for a second that they’re 6 and a half seven and a half eight and a half games out up up a first place because let’s face it most of our Lives we’re looking up at other teams in the division so it’s just great so I look at it gets my day off to a good start looking at the division and seeing the Brewers with a healthy lead but not taking it for granted still a lot of work to do but I would be I would love for them to get the second best record of the National League remember the top two teams in each league avoid that wild card that best of you know best of three first round series which the Brewers lost in because they were the three seed last year Arizona came here and took two games and you know the whole season was gone in 24 27 hours we don’t need that again I would love to see the Brewers at least get to a longer series and get into that uh uh into that second seed D can they catch the Dodgers you know they’re two three games behind them I think they’re even with them in the Lost column as I re checked let me just double check here once I got the standings up yeah the Brewers are even with with the Dodgers in the Lost column and the Dodgers have won two more games Dodgers got 46 games uh Milwaukee 44 so the Dodgers have played two more games it’s probably I mean there’s six behind Philadelphia I don’t see them catching Philadelphia but certainly the Dodgers might be capable you know unless the Dodgers I keep waiting for them just to turn it on but it would be great to get that number two seed of the national league and void that stupid two game series that the Brewers lost to last year all right San Diego coming up next Brewers in there for four game series Brewers went in there swept the weekend Series last year remember that helped get them off to a great start they got that weekend Series in San Diego last year uh Manny Machado for the Padres will’ll see him and his laziness grounding out uh hitting Balls to the third baseman and second basem at shortstop and jogging about halfway down and turning around and coming back you know much we what we saw vlat a couple of weeks ago with Toronto so Machado will be doing more of that Padre’s are couple of games under the 500 Mark they’re right there the Wild Card heart Wild Card hunt as well um the pitchers for the Brewers this weekend Wilson Ray Rodriguez and Meyers Wilson Tuesday Ray Friday Rodriguez Saturday Myers Sunday Brewers would see Dylan CE coming up on Friday night they would see them in more late night games uh Thursday and Friday Saturday uh early evening start I I believe and then of course on Sunday afternoon midafternoon start there but some more late night hope you all been hanging in there appreciate you listening to my broadcast every day and uh watching this I know you appreciate the Recaps the Brewers behind Freddy Peralta with McGill saving his 15th Game of the Year two- nothing over the Angels taking another series after dropping the opener winning two of three and improving that record to 44 and 30 it’s going to do it for me we’ll see you tomorrow night after the opener against the Padre’s 1. Definitely not a championship team not with this offense which is offensive. I would trade Mitchell when he comes back or Weimer not Sal. I would only use Perkins as a defensive replacement. If Hoskins keep sucking like he has trade him back to the Phillies of DFA him because he has been horrible. Forget trading for a pitcher sign Trevor Bauer for league minimum and the Brewers give up nothing to get him. He has topped out at 98 in the 8th inning in Mexico. The Brewers need at least 2 more bats with some pop in the lineup. Oh and send Jake down please.

  2. I don't understand the hate on the offense….the brewers are 8th in MLB hitting with RISP and 3rd in NL. That is good enough to make a run. All we need is another starter and guys like hoskins to start playing better.

  3. I think there are Ebbs and Flows with every team and almost every player. Pat Murphy seems to have a good feel for who is hot and who's not. Not always, lol, but seemingly for the most part. So, it's Murphy coordinating the parts that's going to win the world series, not trading key components of this team. So, I like the Brewers chances as long as the players stay healthy and Murphy stays on hiis game.

  4. Tyler Black… Well, Oliver Dunn's .598 OPS could be better. However, Black's .579 major league OPS isn't better. So, will Black light it up on his 2nd time up at the major league level? Murphy said he would. Yes, Pat Murphy predicted when he sent Tyler Black down last time, that Black would be better in his next trip up here. I don't have the link to that interview off hand but it's out there. So, let's hope Murphy's read is correct. I like the brand Murphy is building here with so many speed demons on the team. Good luck Tyler Black!

  5. Bradley Blalock… This will be Blalock's second time up at the Brewers. However, lol, he got short changed in his first call up. He never got an opportunity to pitch. So, I agree with dispensing of Hernandez who needed to do better with that big lead against a poor team. I mean , one can see why Murphy would have no confidence to use Hernandez in any situation. So, it's just a waste of a roster spot by holding Hernandez. However, Murphy (or other Brewer sources) , must like what they see in Blalock. He's only double A! So, he must have something to his game that's setting him apart, otherwise why is he getting bunked up?

  6. Tyler Anderson … Sure, he'd be great to have. But if you listen to the Angels, they expect to receive the moon for him. A year and a half of contract control is left with Tyler Anderson. If something could be worked out where the Brewers weren't pulling anything off this current roster, then it would open the door for a deal. But, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." So, to answer Chuck Friemund's question, my answer is , "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Let that idea marinate a little bit Chuck.

  7. I was at all the last world series teams playoffs games and sutton was supposed to be the guy and caldwell ended up the guy so the stars don't always carry the day. tagging from second and scoring on gorman thomas in game 4 was brutal. it is usually one of the others that end up carrying you so let it play out.

  8. 2 seed? Yes, that'd be nice. But, what if the Brewers are the 3 seed? You certainly don't want Burnes to start game #1 again. Of course the Brewers won't have that problem this year because they got a good trade for him. Maybe Jared Koenig , an opener, starts game one. This is a puzzle I'm hoping Murphy can figure out when playoff time arrives.

  9. Sal is part of the young core of Turang . William..Jackson churio..and ortiz
Prob not a world series threat this year but keep this core developing and add some pieces..

  10. Probably could have fooled a GM with Sal this off season but not going to get much for him now. More of a 4th OF, doesn't get on base enough, has no power and overall average defense. Mitchell has more potential for greatness but has a ton of red flags, including his injury history.

  11. Hoping you choosing Now to do this topic has nothing to do with the Brewers just winning a series against the Angels ? I do agree, they are just not quite ready as currently constructed.

  12. correction , Freddy has pitched like a #1 (at times = every 3rd time out on average, more or less) . On a playoff team, Freddy makes an okay #2 or a really good #3

  13. Not without pitching. Rea is purely smoke and mirrors according to his underlying stats. Peralta is a #2 on most teams. They need starting Pitching….and not cheap #5 types

  14. This is the best team in Brewer history, simply because there's no holes anywhere, those other teams had managers that had no idea about anything about baseball, and entitled vets who had no business playing in the clutch, also Doug Melvin was by far the worst GM in any sport in any era, Brewers have a total organization, no holes anywhere

  15. They are relying on a young pitcher from the minors to set fire for the rotation and I think that is rushing them, they need to make at least 1 maybe 2 moves for starters, the bats will be whatever, all their position players are pretty much set.

  16. You are assuming these other teams WANT players the Brewers have. The Cubs have much more to offer as do the Redsminor leaguers

  17. I went back to a March 25 article 5 Predictions about the Brewers, they are either way off or dead on.
    1. Hoskins will win the NL Home Run Title ?? Really !! Waaaay off there.
    2. Ashby and Gasser will work their way into the rotation and be good. Almost happened, but for Injuries.
    3. Payamps and Uribe will be tried as closers, but Megill will win the job. Eeriely accurate.
    4. Churio will have a slow April, but will turn it around in May and win ROY. Off by a few weeks
    5. Brewers will win the Central and will beat the Cubs in the WC round. From your mouth to God's ears there pal.
