Jared Boll’s Journey to the Pros Started with a Stick and a Dream in his Childhood Backyard | Scotts
[Music] welcome to Homegrown presented by Scots I’m Dylan Ty with me is longtime Blue Jacket Jared bu bowler I want to get started talking about your childhood being outdoors that sort of thing what are your earliest memories of I don’t know being in the street being in the yard with your buddies playing hockey yeah I mean I was going to say Obviously growing up playing hockey was my number one sport so we were out street hockey was was all we did I had a young older and younger brother so obviously the younger brother always got thrown in that and just got peppered with uh with shots but um man that was that was most most my childhood was was being on the the street and playing street hockey with with all the neighborhood kids and uh man it’s the it’s the most fun that’s where you you dream of scoring the game seven Stanley Cup goal to win it all and uh I did that a few times in the streets never got to do it in real life but uh that’s kind of where the Dreams Are Made Who did a young Jared Bull look up to and pretend that you were in that game seven scoring the overtime winner yeah I mean uh being a Columbus guy now this might hurt some feelings but my dad grew up in gross points I was a huge Red Wings fan uh so Steve Eiserman was was kind of the guy I looked up to and uh they had some really good teams at that time so it was it was fun to be a fan and uh yeah I just remember always always wanted to kind of have the same career path as as Steve Eiserman but uh didn’t get there but it was it was a he was a really good guy to look up to you took your NHL career in a little bit different of a direction I was still I was still a big fan of Darren mccardy and and Joey kosher but uh yeah know my my dad kind of he was a huge Steve Eiserman fan and uh he did it the right way so it was it was a really good role model to have you obviously played in Columbus so you know what it’s like during the offseason you loved it so much that you came back here fulltime Columbus in the summer can be so beautiful so what do you and your family like to get into now yeah we’ love especially living living up here in Dublin there’s so many nice parks and and we got two young girls so we’re always we’re always at the parks and the pools and uh it’s just a great area to live um I spent some time out in California one of the most beautiful places in the US and and we both couldn’t couldn’t wait to come back uh to Columbus I grew up in the midwest it just feels like home um the people just the area we we love everything about it um so so we were so excited to come back and and like you said there’s there’s a ton of stuff to do especially around this area and uh it’s a great place place to live and uh raise a family well I’m from California myself and I love being here in Ohio and in the midwest all my family is from the Midwest as well and I feel like such a big part of Midwest life is being outdoors whether it’s camping hiking going out to the lake what do you enjoy about being outdoors um well we were talking about it earlier when I can I love to get out in golf uh it’s the tough part is finding the time to do it um but over the years I’ve I’ve gotten into hunting I wouldn’t say I’m a a pro professional Hunter but I I love being outside I love being in the woods um I love learning about it so that’s been a a really fun thing for me to do to kind of get away from everything and and spend time to yourself and and just it’s peaceful even my wife always you know gives me a hard time CU I usually don’t end up coming home with anything but I I consider it a good day because I’m out in the woods and and in nature and just kind of relaxing and and enjoying the areas being outside during the summer grilling in the backyard is always so much fun do you do any hosting or that sort of thing yeah we we host quite a bit cuz my wife comes from a family of she’s got three other sisters and they all live right here so they’re at our house a lot and uh when it comes to hosting I’m not a huge fan of it but I love like you said I love being outside I love being around the grill um that’s kind of all I can do when I’m when we’re making food I I I don’t really touch the kitchen but uh being on the grill we got a new Blackstone I’ve been l oh yeah love messing around with that thing so um yeah it’s it’s I love doing it and it’s it’s fun to have people over and be the Grill Master as it relates to the future of the Columbus Blue Jackets as an organization what do you think it says that so many guys do stick around this city and this community and what does it mean to you guys that this community this city is behind you in the way that they are yeah it’s amazing um they support the Blue Jackets they love they love the hockey um the fans have been incredible like you said to to see guys that retire end up buying homes here and starting families and living here it just beaks volumes about Columbus um but I always say like I don’t want to sell it too much because it’s already growing a lot and the more more people come in it’s just kind of so I don’t want people to get the idea that it’s just this great place to live cuz cuz I kind of like the slower Pace but um it’s growing man the city it’s it’s there’s it’s it’s unbelievable how much it’s grown since um I first came here uh to start playing so um yeah I guess the Secret’s getting out now so it’s it’s a special place to live and and the people um people around here people in in Columbus make it that special so it’s it’s been good all right bowler thanks for doing this this was a lot of fun thanks for having me
