The St. Louis Blues Should Consider These Prospects For The 2024 Entry Level NHL Draft|Off To Vegas

Blues you’re locked on Blues your daily podcast on the St Louis Blues part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day hello and welcome back to lockon Blues I am your host of lockon Blues Haley Taylor Simon talking to all things about our St Louis Blues here a part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day today on locked on Blues I’m G talk about some more prospects we have one of my favorite prospects that I W the blues so desperately to trade up for so anything’s possible trades that could happen and off to Vegas and I’ll tell you more about that busy episode today as I said I’m literally going to leave for Vegas like ASAP like as soon as I’m done filming like I’m getting on a plane so if it’s not as long today just know your girl has to board the plane but anyways I want to let you know before I go into anything else so today’s episode is brought to you by Game Time download the game time app create an account and use code locked on for $20 locked on NHL for $20 off your first purchase terms apply the NHL draft is only a couple days away and I have to tell you I am getting more and more excited I you know I think about a couple things one I think about the fact that this draft has some really good de piece players that a lot of people are not talking about but I know we’re focused on that first round at our 16th overall pick when I first began talking to you about prospects there was a couple players that I mentioned and one player is a Defender a player that I really believe is the future of the St Louis Blues if he were to come here because you know we need defensive help um and overall this player is everything you need in a defensive player and that is Sam Dickinson of the London Knights in the OHL and let me tell you at 18 years old this guy is just extremely impressive now the only thing that’s a little concerning is the fact that he keeps on climbing up more and more in the stats which I mean projected you know which makes me nervous but this past season with the London Knights he played in 68 games with 18 goals and 52 assists for 70 points total so not bad at all I mean honestly um when you think about you know defenseman you don’t think of them putting up 70 points in a season and because of how his season went right and because of how he did you know he did um the Canada under 18 um this past season um he played five games three assists still pretty good right not a bad thing at all but I mean it’s just so impressive everything about him and I really do believe that he is one of those defensive players where you really can get a lot out of him um he is so good on the for check and leaving pressure and again a two-way defenseman I know that’s like the typical hockey talk these days two-way defenseman but he is a two-way defenseman and how is that a bad thing that is a very positive thing you want your players to be good two-way players you can get the most out of them especially when you think about the blue line and how awful our Blue Line has been lately now I know the blues statistically they’re not the worst defense I know and I’m not saying that they are the worst defense I’m just saying that you know when I think about the St Louis Blues I don’t think oh yeah great defensive team I think about other things not that but being said I wanted to get other opinions on Sam Dickinson so um my friends from the lockon NHL draft um talked more about Sam Dickinson Sam Dickinson’s a safer bet to make the NHL than almost any other Prospect in the 2024 NHL draft but how high is his upside I’m had Kes from locked on NHL prospects ready to give you the breakdown Dickinson’s a 6 fo3 195 pound left shot defenseman who played for the London Knights in the ol he played consistent second pair of minutes on arguably the best team in the CHL and put up 70 points in 68 games from the Blue Line the Cornerstone of Dickinson’s game is a skating he uses it defensively to close gaps ridiculously well in transition and offensively he’s never afraid to carry the puck up the ice or join the rush he’s got confidence in Spades and he’s very aggressive at both ends of the ice as well the hope with Dickinson is that he learns to read the game at a higher level and hopefully adds a layer of poise on both sides of the puck because if he does he’ll go from a safe second pair defenseman to a Bonafide top pair two-way guy for more on Dickson and all things NHL draft follow And subscribe to locked on NHL prospects on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast all right so that was a good synopsis on Dickinson as I said one of my top players a player that I really do like a lot um another thing I want to talk to you about too is Barkley now Barkley Caden um is another player that I feel like has been kind of making you know headlines lately um and it’s not because is he’s been making headlines or anything bad like some other players um he’s a center that shoots left which again is impressive and something that I feel like the blues could utilize I know that we’re not like desperate need for centers but it wouldn’t help to have that too um in any case right so he plays and you’re gonna okay you’re gonna laugh where he’s actually from because it’s really fitting with the blues remember when the blues were kind of struggling as a franchise and the NHL wanted to move them to um SC it’s SCA scoten Canada whatever it’s called well that’s where he’s from um so I just think that’s kind of funny but anyways let’s go talk more about Berkeley and what he does so he plays on the Spokan Chiefs in the WHL I don’t know why I’ve been watching a lot of WHL lately uh this past season in 68 games play 54 goals 62 assists 116 points now he does rack up in those penalty minutes with 41 but that is okay I mean listen 116 points now I know that won’t generate in the NHL obviously um but still it’s very impressive for not only any player in any league but breaking like a hundred that young I like it so here’s the thing about him he’s been making more headlines lately because people do realize his skill because he has the speed he is a speed machine on the ice and I think that it’s goes to show with how he plays um he is really good too by the way at baiting Defenders and he knows how to really maneuver in and out so I think he does a good job on that aspect but he is a really effective players and he does make good he he’s an effective player that makes effective plays and I think for me when I think about the St Louis Blues and I think about players that could really benefit the team I think of having a guy that is smart on the ice good hockey IQ is speedy and that is everything that he is so again just like I did with my friend Sam Dickinson who I want to be a St Louis blue so badly I’m gonna have um Heidi tell you more about berley kon’s one of the most skillful fours in the 2024 NHL draft but is he worth a top five pick I’m had kakes from locked on NHL prospects ready to give you the breakdown cans a 5 foot1 165 pound for who played for the Spokan Chiefs in the WHL he averaged 30 minutes A Night at times as a forward especially in the playoffs and led to all CHL draft eligibles in points with 116 in 68 games with K and his bread and butters transition offense he’s got some of the best three-step acceleration in the entire draft and the skill and vision to do something with it he’s creative in transition with how he enters the offensive zone he’s daring with the puck and his snapshot in motion is something to Behold The Hope is that Canon could get more effective off the cycle maybe add some weight perhaps even his defense a little bit the ceiling with him is really high but more realistically he probably becomes more of a Nikolai eers type in the NHL for more on Ken and all things NHL draft follow And subscribe to locked on NHL prospects on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast so as he was saying the defense needs to be worked on and I know that is something that you know a lot of Scouts have said about him but personally when you have a player that’s so skillful skillful offensively they can make up for their lack of defensive play now I’m not saying that you know this is the guy the blues should trade up to get but it is a possibility that he could fall to 16 the blues are in a very interesting position being at 16th overall just due to the nature of the draft and anything can happen I we’ll talk more about that per se but those are a couple more prospects I wanted to talk about I mean obviously uh there’s another prospect that um is in a bit of hot water and that is uh Trevor uh Connelly and here’s the thing about him he plays for TriCity storm USL and he’s a left Winger and he’s a good player Speedy you know all the right things that you would want he makes a lot of plays happen um he’s a good death player um and he’s good when he’s put in tight situations the only thing um about Trevor and I’m trying to think about how to word this um because it is unfortunate situation uh just due to how it is and um basically he’s a great player and there’s no doubt about that he however was in some controversy um a couple years ago on social media um there has been some posts made of just some bad things I’ll leave it at that bad things um don’t want to touch more about it he honestly and this is you know when Scout even said he’s probably the second best player after um celebrini but here’s the thing it’s because of his controversy um that has made him fall down a little bit so it it is hard right because as a player I think he would fit in so well uh but I mean himself he even said I just wanted to kind of not hang myself on the past and keep moving forward but I do think when you think about the NHL and you think about you know the amount of eyes that are on you and how these organizations throughout the years have gained so much respect you also don’t want somebody that’s going to ruin the image and I hate to be like oh image over skill but at the end of the day when you’re posting things that he has posted um it does bring a little bit of uh you know it’s like a tough situation so I’ll leave it at that but he is another player that um skill-wise is good I just don’t know if the blues would touch him to be honest with you anyways with that being said um I talking to my friends over eBay Motors passion Drive imp patience the formula for winning championships is also a keeps your rou or die alive eBay Motors has everything you need to maintain your vehicle and brought up is um and I talked about this before pel buich don’t do it Tory Krug I doubt it will happen and then Jordan cyu and I just want to remind you that Jordan cyu happens to be a good player okay he’s a good guy off the ice and I want to play you an interview that I actually have with Jordan cyu um talk about you know them chasing the playoffs but I feel like we need to humanize him a little bit because people are just really hard when it comes to KY so here is Jordan cyu and uh you can see how much he does care about the St Louis Blues so this season I would say this is a pretty good season for you how do you feel like it’s going thus far with you know heading towards the end um I mean you know I think we’re in a pretty pretty good spot right now you know these are exciting times you know uh right during the playoff race right you we’re a couple points out so we got a couple big big games ahead of us here you the big you know trip up in the East you have Philadelphia and then you head out you know to New Jersey New York what do you think about these games as are really crucial as you’re still fighting for that wild card spot yeah like I said you know there are big games right so they’re exciting games to play in you know I got something to play for right now so we’re pump up so clearly you can see how much he does care about the team so I’m so sick of all the people that are like oh Jordan Cyra doesn’t care he shouldn’t be here he obviously wants to be here in St Louis he’s a good player and I know that when you think about trades you have to sometimes give away you know a player that has some value and Jordan Kyu has value so if you’re saying okay well you can get a lot out of him okay fine but don’t say that you want to trade him just because you don’t like him there’s tons of players that are not likable around the NHL but happen to perform very well do you think the Florida Panthers and I hate to be like this were like oh yeah that Ma when he was on Calgary oh yeah Matthew kach Chuck I like him a lot no people hated Matthew kachuck um but he’s a good player and I’m not saying kyou is like Chuck but I’m just using the comparison that not all players are the most likable um for whatever reason that is but they still can you know Play Good hockey um I I just think when it comes to the trades for the draft Doug Armstrong’s in a tough position I personally would trade I would try to get another first round draft pick or I would try to trade up my 16th overall the problem is is that other teams are being aggressive right now and the blues are not and with the blues not being aggressive it does lead me to concerns of hey is he just going to stand Pat is he just going to do nothing and if that’s the case then the blues’ draft um won’t be something special because as I mentioned you can get death pieces in the second round and things like that but it’s not going to be anything compared to what it should be so I want you honestly just to consider the fact that maybe one of the best things for the blues is for them to kind of I’m not saying stand Pat necessarily but to make smart choices and they should consider a trade and at the end of the day listen you’re you know you’re in a situation to um if you make a trade and you get rid of B navage for raw fund and purposes and you get the eighth overall pick what just hear me out what if that guy doesn’t pan out and that’s the risk you take whenever you make a trade close to the draft there’s always that risk of oh well what if it doesn’t plan out that’s always a thing okay so I think that you know Doug Armstrong he’s being smart he’s being you know realistic and if he’s satisfied with having one first round draft pick that’s good that’s him maybe the offers that he’s getting we don’t know if he’s having conversations maybe they’re not good and that’s the other thing too is we only see so much we don’t see all the conversations things like that so you do have to trust in your management and that’s why with Doug Armstrong you have to trust that he is making the right decisions it could all backfire honestly and it could just blow up and if that’s what happens then that happens but right now you just have to trust the fact that he knows what he’s doing it’s going to be okay and the blues will have a successful draft so it’s a lot of stress and I know that but I wanted to play that clip of Jordan kyre just to remind you he does care so much about this team success he wasn’t here with the blues when they won the cup okay he wants to win a Stanley Cup it is every single hockey player’s dream to Hoist the Stanley Cup and I think that for any single person that questions that that questions his passion to wear the blue note you have to understand he had a moment of weakness when he talked about barui um it’s in the past he apologized he literally cried about it okay he has said how much he loves St Louis and I know that’s being held against him but why is it that every little thing that Jordan Kyu does it’s always held against him oh well you know Jordan Kyu did this well no like stop holding things against Jordan cyu let the man play hockey you don’t have that same energy when it comes to any other player because there’s been other players on this team that haven’t always said the right thing at a press conference that haven’t always reacted the best way after a loss I think the pressure put on kyou more than any other player is awful and I will call a player out if I don’t think they’re playing good hockey but I’m also going to defend a player if I don’t think he did anything wrong and is being ridiculed so leave Kyu alone okay I’m G to talk to about my friends over at game time game time is an off draft credential at the NHL draft it has been such a dream of mine and I think for me about this draft and why just even more excited about it is because of how great it’s been covering the blues for this entire year and I feel like now more than ever um I just feel so a part of this process with the draft talking about these prospects for months and it’s all happening like you know we just had a crazy sty Cup finals a couple days ago the award show is tomorrow night I’m not going into that by the way because the blues are definitely not getting any awards um but I cannot wait for the blues to make their selection and for us to finally finally get an answer on who will be with us this is such a special hockey team and I want to say that there’s something really cool about wearing the blue note and I think any player that we draft with all of our draft picks is going to be honored and humbled to be a part of an organization with so much history and with so much potential I’m excited to talk to the prospect um just because I’m only going to be there for night one and to see you know how he feels about coming to play for us and get to know him more and obviously there’ll be a lot of episodes on you know all of our first round I not our first round all of our picks it’s a very exciting time for the blues it really is because this is our future I don’t think I really don’t think they’re gonna go with anybody but a Defender for round one I could be wrong so again don’t hold me to that but from all that I’ve done on all the research on the different prospects that I’ve talked about on this podcast I think a defenseman would be the best bet but again you need to go with the best available player you cannot go with a player that isn’t as valuable availability um yeah it’s important skill sets important all that’s important getting a player that has all the skills that the blues need and more would be awesome but no players perfect obviously we’re not first overall but that is okay because there are still so many great players in this draft it’s not as good as last year’s draft but last year’s draft was a bit of an exception but it’s still a draft that has just so much talent radiating from it and this is something cool too for these men this is night one of the rest of their careers in the NHL like dreams are going to come true on Thursday I mean not Thursday Friday that’s the award show dreams might come true there too if you care that much about it um but it’s GNA be really cool seeing dreams come true and there’s something really special about the NHL draft more so than any other draft I can’t believe I’m heading off to Vegas um luckily I wasn’t able to get cut off so that’s a plus and I will talk to you from Las Vegas yeah that is I will be doing my podcast from viva Las Vegas maybe with some other locked on hosts I sign really badly but locked on Senators will be there locked on Flyers will be there locked on Devils will be there so I’m really excited to meet some of my locked on um family at this point so I will talk to you tomorrow from Vegas and until then let’s go Blues

The draft is days away and Haley is heading off to Las Vegas to cover the draft. The St. Louis Blues should consider some forwards for their 16th overall pick, and not just key in on having a defenseman. Haley talks about the importance of NOT trading away players that bring a lot of value for a potential draft pick that could flop.
