lockdown Blackhawks your on stop shop for all things Chicago Blackhawks back with the second episode of the day here as I promised although I’m probably going to wait to have this drop until uh Wednesday morning just so I can allow some space and some time in between the two episodes I don’t want uh the views and the numbers there to get watered down on the first episode that I’m dropping so you’ll probably be listening to this on Monday morning or early excuse me Wednesday morning or early Wednesday afternoon however I will be dropping another episode Wednesday afternoon once I get home from work so loading up on the draft coverage loading up on the free agency content as we’re starting to get into the Nitty Gritty of the off season here now Blackhawks fans the Stanley Cup Final has finally wrapped up although that didn’t stop General Managers from knocking the first dominoes down of this off season but of course or now by the time you’re listening to this less than 40 or just over 48 Hours removed from the 2024 NHL draft free agency is going to be right around the corner as well it is going to be a hectic next five to six days for your boy again make sure you’re subscribed to lockdown Blackhawks on YouTube so you don’t miss out on any of my coverage of the NHL draft or free agency but to kick things off on the show here today we got some big reports surfacing out of Winnipeg over the weekend and you know we’ve started to hear rumors around numerous key players in teams the Carolina Hurricanes with Jake gensel as well as Marty NIS who the Blackhawks have according to numerous reports been in the mix for been in the conversation kicking the tires around him although I do think it’s a little bit far-fetched in terms of the two sides coming to a deal the longer it goes I feel like the worse and the lower leverage the Carolina Hurricanes get and maybe that makes the Blackhawks maybe that opens them up to being more likely to acquire NES I just don’t necessarily think they have the assets that Carolina is demanding right here right now but we’re obviously hearing rumors about them I talked about uh Patrick l potentially being on the trade watch with the Columbus Blue Jackets as looks like he wants to uh get off to a new fresh start with a new franchise and now we’re getting them with a fellow team here in the Central Division the Winnipeg Jets regarding forwards Nikolai eers in 20202 14th overall pick ruer mcrai and this isn’t you know the first time we’re hearing some disgruntled um relationships between an NCAA Prospect and the team that holds their rights obviously we got that with cutter goate and the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2023 2024 regular season which led to gota being traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jamie Dale a crazy deal there we’ve seen it with numerous prospects in the past even the Blackhawks when they drafted him with Kevin Hayes he not never ended up signing with the organization we’ve seen it with Adam Fox uh Jimmy VC just to name a couple this is something that does happen and I think it’s funny we have all these concerns about the Russian prospects in the NHL draft look at the NCA prospects I mean they don’t exactly have the strongest lineage in terms of signing with the teams that selected them and now we get mve mitkov a year after being drafted coming over to North America feels like Ivan demidov is going to be on that same path fingers crossed whether the Blackhawks take him or not with the second overall pick and it sure sounds like Rucker mcg’s time as a member of the Winnipeg Jets organization obviously hasn’t even played a game at the NHL level could be coming to an end here is a report uh from morat Ates I think is how you pronounce his name I apologize if I completely butchered that from the athletic uh had a report about both Rucker mcgi and Nikolai eers who I’ll get to here in just a second but as far as mcgi goes morat said quote there appears to be a disconnect between how Winnipeg’s Player Development viewed and communicated its with mcgi and mcg’s view of his own future dot dot dot he viewed himself more ready than the team did and he no longer believes his future is with the Winnipeg Jets and the first sign of this came after the conclusion of mcord sophomore season with the Michigan Wolverines where he was a teammate with Blackhawks Prospect Frank nzar had an outstanding sophomore season in which he put up 52 points6 goals and 36 assists in 36 games to help the Michigan Wolverines reach the Frozen Four he was also a point perame player 39 points in 39 games during his freshman campaign but then he made the shocking announcement that he was going back to Michigan for his Junior season that was especially weird considering Frank nzar announced that he was leaving the team I believe Gavin Brinley did the same so it felt a little bit odd for mcgi not to be going to that next level but it sounds like it could be the result of a disgruntled relationship with the Winnipeg Jets and it sounds like he could be on the move here this summer and for those who aren’t familiar with mcgi he’s a 6’1 200 pound Winger as I mentioned super effective in his first two years with the University of Michigan was also the captain uh at the world juniors for the United States there and is still a young kid he just turned 20 years old back in March who plays with some good size and some physicality has leadership qualities as well there are going to be numerous amounts of teams uh asking about what the price will be to take mcgi off of Kevin chevel De off’s hands so we’ll be really interesting to see what the latest updates we get in that situation as far as whether the Blackhawk should be interested yeah absolutely they have to make a call mcgi is a blue chip Prospect who again numerous teams are going to be after but was a teammate of Frank Nars I’m sure the Blackhawks got a lot of good looks uh of mcgi there for the Wolverines and also at the world juniors as well a prospect that plays with a a little bit of an edge and has some size as well as a skill game yeah I absolutely think the Blackhawks should should make the call the question is what is going to be the asking price for ruer mcgi you can’t imagine it’s going to be too high since Winnipeg won’t have any leverage however it is going to be uh a little bit of a highest bitter type of situation who’s going to offer the most for Rucker mordi is what the deal is going to come down to as far as Nikolai eers also some Rumblings there in the same article that eers isn’t going to be signing with the Winnipeg Jets after the conclusion of this upcoming season he still has one year left on his deal with a $6 million cap hit a 10 team modified no trade clause however feels like it’s a pretty noteworthy off season for the Winnipeg Jets and their future they just resigned Dylan Dello so we know he’s not going to be a right-handed defenseman option for the Blackhawks in free agency uh but it feels like the rumors around the league expect eers to be on the table around the NHL draft doesn’t seem to be any pressure around the Jets to get something done but they do realize that it’s unlikely that he’s going to get moved maybe that doesn’t lead to him getting traded uh in the offseason maybe they wait till the Midway point but again eers is someone I absolutely think the Blackhawk should be kicking the tires on six foot 170 pound Winger who plays with good speed the ninth overall pick in 2014 only turned 28 years old this past February and is coming off the second most productive year of his NHL career in which he tallied 61 points points 25 goals and 36 assists in 82 games the most points that he’s tallied in a season since he was 20 his second year in the league when he had 64 uh but a player who has great goal scoring abilities and some really good speed that would undoubtedly help the Blackhawks offense $6 million with one year left that’s the type of deal that Kyle Davidson would be willing to take on the question again with mcrai it’s the same with eers what is Winnipeg going to want in exchange for him that’s the million doll question we haven’t heard exactly what they could be looking for at this point in time however what I do want to point out is the Blackhawks are in the Central Division and I’m sure the Jets don’t want to be trading particularly Rucker mcgi to a Central Division foe who could go on to kill them for years and years and years I’m sure they don’t want to be doing that and I’m sure they prefer not to trade eers to a Central Division team either however I don’t think that’s as prevalent for eers as I think for mcgi um I think eers is probably the more likely one for the Blackhawks considering his contract situation and what they could offer again though it depends what Winnipeg wants in exchange but Kyle Davidson should absolutely be kicking the tires on these two players I don’t think it’s the most likely thing in the world we know there’s going to be a lot of suitors for mordi I’m sure there’s going to be the same for eers we’ll see if there’s going to be any develops further on that matter over the next couple of days I’ll make sure to bring them up on the show if that happens but there are my thoughts on Nikolai eers and Rucker mcgi potentially being moved out of Winnipeg this summer coming up in just a moment I’ll get into Chris Peters recent 2024 NHL Mack draft but first I got to talk to you all about the fine folks over at FanDuel I love sports I love sports so much I never want them to go away but as the NBA playoffs and the Stanley Cup Playoffs have now wrapped up unfortunately we get fewer games and the sports just aren’t sportsing like I want them to however FanDuel lets me keep the sports going whenever I want and all I have to do is open the app and dream up bets anytime that I’m in the mood in this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily all summer long that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all summer long and how about this Blackhawks fans for the first time that I’ve seen FanDuel just released odds for the 2024 NHL draft real interesting one here ardam linov listed as a minus three 50 favorite to go second to the Blackhawks I know there are some fans who are not going to want to hear that however you could bet Ivan demidov for a nice plus 210 I think that’s a pretty good number Anton salv listed at plus 125 for the third overall pick as I’ve been going through mck drafts here on the show we’ve been seeing his name at number three a lot so I think there’s good value there I will absolutely be riding with Ivan demidov at plus 210 with FanDuel you can go and do that as well and if you’re not already a member go and check out fuel.com lockon to sign up you’ll be getting bonuses and boost daily all summer long again that’s fanduel.com lockdown to get daily boosts and bonuses FanDuel America’s number one sports book segment two we got another mock draft to get into on the show here today this will either be the last one or maybe I’ll do uh one more if I see someone worthwhile or one of the draft analysts or Scouts that I go through here on the show and I’ve already gone over Corey pran’s mckeen’s hockey and Scott Wheeler’s 2024 NHL mock drafts you can easily find those episodes on my channel under the 2024 NHL mock draft playlist and again a reminder to hit that subscribe button while you’re there if you haven’t done so already today though next one we’re gonna be getting into is Chris Peters mock draft and Peters is someone I always include in my rankings I mentioned a couple of weeks ago when someone during m B Monday asked Jack which shows do you think I should watch if I’m just getting back into hockey coverage who will keep me the best informed Chris Peters was absolutely someone I included in that group he does a lot of great work and does a lot of great stuff involving uh the NHL draft and his thoughts on certain prospects and whatnot and I think it’s think it’s again worthwhile to bring up here on the show because it’s just another opportunity to get some insight uh and info into what these teams could be thinking as we’re now less than three days away from day one of the 2024 NHL draft going down at the sphere in Las Vegas let’s go ahead and get into Chris Peters Mack draft first overall mlin celebrini to the San Jose Sharks no surprise there whatsoever I don’t even think it’s listed on FanDuel if it would be it would be like minus 5,000 second overall to the Chicago Blackhawks for the fourth consecutive mock draft Chris Peters has them taking ardam linov it sure seems like the signs are pointing in that direction the odds are suggesting that as well did the meeting with Ivan demidov in Florida two weeks ago Chang things for the blackw we’ll find out on Friday afternoon number three the Anaheim Ducks for the fourth consecutive Mock Draft take Anton Salay and that’s why I mentioned during that ad read for fandu a plus 125 right here right now for salaya third overall that seems like pretty good value fourth overall the Columbus Blue Jackets they’re going to have a decision on their hands if it does go celebrini levanov salv are they going to go with Ivan demidov are they going to go with Kaden Lindstrom are they going to go wild card and select Beck at senica according to Chris Peters they’re taking Kaden lindström fifth the Montreal Canadians for the third time and four mock drafts take Ivan demidov six overall the Utah hockey franchise selects Becket senica seventh the Ottawa Senators select Berkeley katton this is the first of four mock drafts that has katton going in the top 10 number eight Seattle select zeve boam I continue to think boam is either going to Seattle at eight or Utah at six number nine the C Flames pass on TJ ginla and take Sam Dickinson according to Chris Peters however the New Jersey Devils go and happily scoop him up at number 10 number 11 the Buffalo Sabres take zanen perek 12 the Philadelphia Flyers take Carter yakimchuk 13 Minnesota the wild select cona helenius and for the fourth mock draft in a row helenus goes in the top 15 here so probably not a candidate to go in the top 10 but sure seems like he’s going to be one of the first selections outside of it and number 14 San Jose takes Stan soberg feels like they could take a defenseman here however if Cole Eiserman is on the board I do wonder if they go in that direction 15 the Detroit Red Wings take Michael branz knard no surprise there a lot of Rumblings around mbn and Steve Eiserman with the wings at 15 16 the St Louis Blues select Michael ha out of the Chicago steel 17 the Washington Capital select Cole Eiserman and man if he gets selected at 17 one ahead of the Blackhawks at 18 I will be very B and number 18 for the Blackhawks for the second consecutive mock draft Chris Peters has them taking Jet luchenko and he does kind of fit the mold of hardworking decent size a lot of skill down the center ice position we’ll see if they wind up taking lenko at 18 I don’t think he’s the most likely candidate but I do think he’s in the mix number 19 Vegas takes Adam year most of the mock drafts have him going as you know the first or second defenseman outside of the big six 20 the New York Islanders select eigor chernish 21st the Los Angeles Kings select Cole bodis 22nd the Nashville Predators select Trevor Connelly 23rd for the second consecutive mock draft the Toronto Maple Leafs take Liam green tree and I do think it’s worth mentioning I believe it was Chris Peters man this is killing me forget who mentioned it exactly in this article but one of these Scouts and analysts mentioned that the Blackhawks really could be looking for size uh in this first round at the forward position because they just don’t have a lot of it in their system I really think Liam greenre is that guy that can provide size and skill I know he lacks the top end speed but at some point the Blackhawks have to get some size in that forward group 24 the Colorado Avalanche select EJ Emory and I’ll tell you what that would be a scary pick for the Colorado Avalanche because there are there’s a lot to like with EJ Emory I think he’s going to be a very solid defensive defenseman has more in the offensive Arsenal I think too than the numers suggest best I feel like Colorado would be a very scary spot for him to develop the next few years particularly for us Blackhawks fans in the Central Division 25th the Ottawa Senators take the man I’ll be breaking down here in just a moment Charlie ellic 26 the Montreal Canadians take Dean lerno another mock draft that has big old Dean going in the first round 27th for the second consecutive mock draft and I believe the third and four the Carolina hurricane select eigor shuran at 27 28 the Calgary Flames select Sasha blav a lot later uh blav at 28 than he has been going in most of these mock drafts 29 the Dallas Stars take Sam O’Reilly 30th the Rangers take Leo saline Venus 31st how about this the Anaheim Ducks take Merrick vanak or someone who uh Scott wheeler who I broke down on yesterday’s show had the Blackhawks taking at number 34 someone who seems like their draft stock is going through the roof right now Chris Peters has vaner the teammate of nickol ARIS for the Branford Bulldogs going in the first round to Anaheim and then wrapping things up at number 32 the Philadelphia Flyers select Andrew Basia 34th overall for the Blackhawks their first selection in the second round Peters has them taking Nikita ardam manov a Winger from the KHL torpedo who actually put up some really good offensive numbers there 23 points in 54 KHL games doesn’t necessarily have the size that I would like so I don’t think he’s the most likely option for the Blackhawks at number 34 four and I really do think they’re going to be thinking heavily about going with two defensemen in their first three Selections in this draft with the 50th overall pick Peters has them taking Harrison brunii right-handed defenseman out of the cam loops Blazers with some good size I think that makes sense not necessarily the highest offensive upside but I do think that is in uh is in the realm of possibility considering I believe that’s what the Blackhawks are going to Target in terms of defenseman and even forwards in this year’s draft I’ll talk more about that as I get into Charlie ellex 2024 NHL draft profile here in just a moment but that’s going to take care of my thoughts on Chris Peters 2024 NHL Mack draft back here on the lockdown blacko podcast part of the lockdown podcast Network your team every day again just a reminder to please go and hit that like button comment down below and subscribe to the channel thank you all very much and also so make sure to go and check out the new lockdown the local Experts of lockdown plus our national shows covering every single league so make sure to go and check out lockdown sports today on YouTube and to subscribe to the first ever National Sports 247 streaming Channel all right segment three I’m getting into my final 2024 NHL draft profiles here on the show Mostly players that I think could be options for the Blackhawk should they be around at number 34 in the second round uh I’ve gone through basically all of the notables in the draft the highest named profiles in the draft already on the channel you can easily find those episodes if you want to hear more about a certain Prospect in particular on my channel under the 2024 NHL draft profile playlist but on today’s episode the next man that I’m going to be getting into is Charlie ellic a 6 foot three 6’4 right-handed defenseman depend on where you’re looking listed at 203 pounds just turned 18 back in January so maybe a little bit on the younger side but kind of in the middle ground in terms of age of this draft class he’s coming off a year in which he tallied 27 points four goals and 23 assists and 65 WL games for the Brandon Wheat Kings also a really solid performance uh for Canada at the the u8 world junior Championship in which he tallied three assists in seven games there and he also only had 11 points three goals and eight assists in 56 games during his first season in the WHL so maybe not the goal scoring development necessarily that we wanted to see but we absolutely saw it uh in terms of the playmaking and at the world juniors as well in those areas as far as the rankings go for ellic kind of all over the place here some folks think he could be a late first round pick some people think he could be available into the middle of the second round he was ranked 26 by Elite prospects 33rd by Bob McKenzie 49th by Craig Button 64th by Tony Ferrari the last pick in the second round is where Tony Ferrari has him ranked 45th according to mckeen’s hockey 24th by Chris Peters is the highest ranking 27th by daily Faceoff 56 by sportset and 33rd by Dober prospects so some people think that Charlie ell is going to be available there at number 34 for the Blackhawks most of the mock drafts I think all four of the mock drafts that I’ve gone through have him selected in the first round and I had him uh graded as a first round selection breaking down the strengths and the weaknesses here though for Alec the first thing that you notice is boy this guy has great size and Mobility for a young kid already six foot three already six foot4 and he doesn’t let that hinder him around the ice he’s a pretty good skater for a player of his side has really really good strides as well uh and just plays already a true defensive defenseman shutdown style defense first all the time has been a willing penalty killer for every team that he’s played for really good though just in his own Zone playing a simplified game he’s got good Gap control really good at defending Zone entries one of the best in this year’s draft that I’ve heard does a good job of breaking up opposing Puck carriers and uh making them go to the outside protecting the most dangerous part of the ice the slot in the middle making them go outside and he already knows how to use his size to his Advantage he is a big hitter in the WHL which is considered to be the most physical of the three Junior leagues up in Canada he doesn’t shy away from it he’ll lay out with an open Ice hit he also has a really active stick and a Long Reach to pair along with it and he’s really strong in front of his net he kind of just plays already like a grown man Charlie ell kind of reminds me of Nolan Allen what what his upside could be at the NHL level maybe um not the highest offensive ceiling although I do think he has a growing Puck moving game and as a decent Puck carrier because of his speed he’s mostly known for his defensive aspects the Gap control the physicality being a willing shop blocker being a willing penalty killer and to go along with the size he’s a right-handed defenseman yeah NHL teams are going to be loving this kid and that’s why I ultimately think he is going to go in the first round unfortunately for us Blackhawks fans as far as the weaknesses go it’s just really around the offensive game he has a lackluster offensive ceiling ceiling because of capped playmaking abilities it is getting better but I don’t think he’s ever going to be like a I think 30 points is probably the ceiling for Charlie ell at the next level um decision- making in the offensive zone could use a little bit of work uh he’s just he’s gonna have to work on his offensive Game and his Puck moving in particular however those have been things that the Blackhawks organization in particular have Divi uh have developed really nicely with players like Alex vasic and Ethan delmastro I’d put Charlie ell kind of in that same category I think he’s capable we haven’t seen it yet but he is going to have a cap ceiling regardless even if he gets better there but I do think he has the opportunity to offer up a little bit more than what the numbers are showing right here right now as far as my projection goes for Charlie ell look I think he’s going to be a second pairing stalwart defensive defenseman I do think he’s you know not necessarily providing that top pairing upside but I think he’s going to be a number three number four defenseman at the next level that you can throw out there and Trust in all defensive situations because the coaches that he’s already had have already done that every level that he’s been at and I think when you just go and look at teams that win the Stanley Cup you need size on the back end to win in the playoffs and Charlie ell absolutely has that along with all the intangibles that you like to hear of a defensive defenseman ultimately because of all those tools I do think he ultimately gets picked late in the first round maybe by the grace of the hockey Gods he falls to uh number 34 and I do think though the one thing that the that he has going for him in terms of us Blackhawks F us Blackhawks fans have going for Eli I should say I think EJ Emery Adam Ur and Shan soberg all are more likely to go in the first round will go ahead of Charlie ellex so I think he’s more likely to slide to the second round at number 34 than all of those guys although I do admit I I I imagine him going late in the first round as far as a long-term fit for the Blackhawks I think this is a pick that could make a lot of sense for Chicago if he’s on the board at 34 I think you know they have a chance to swing upside but I also do think they want to address some of the size in their system I think they’d like to add a little bit more size on the right hand side and I do think they’d like to add it in the forward group as well altogether I think the Blackhawks need to get bigger um and I I do think Kyle Davidson would wouldn’t mind a shutdown right-handed defenseman at this Point yeah the added offense would be nice but I quite honestly think he’s looking for more of a defensive star work considering what the Blackhawks already have in the pipelines with a Wyatt Kaiser with a Sam renzel with a Seth Jones with the Kevin korchinsky offensive Puck movers they could kind of use a defensive staple a little bit I think ardam levanov could be that I think Charlie ell could be that as well if he’s available at number 34 and could be a really nice right-handed defensive partner uh that can take care of the defensive side of things along with Kevin kinsky or Wyatt Kaiser for year to come so there is uh there are my thoughts on defenseman Charlie ell and that’s going to take care of today’s episode of
