Dallas Cowboys Starting Lineup Revealed By ESPN Before NFL Training Camp | Cowboys Rumors & News

[Music] welcome back once again into the Cowboys report I am Tom Downey ESPN and their Insider piece ranked all 32 NFL teams rosters their projected lineup list of the top strength weakness X Factor a nonstarter to watch we’ll break down all of that for you on today’s show maybe most notably the Cowboys had the number number six ranked roster according to ESPN the ners one Chiefs at two Ravens three not many surprises there the Jets are four kind of interesting the lions at five then Dallas at six head of the Bengals Texans bills still Philadelphia as well which this would in theory if the roster plays out properly right ah you’re once again not getting to the NFC championship game which kind of sounds right six maybe a little high uh with the way things went this past off season now we are in a comment battle this month as the month begins to wind down against the Raiders report we are narly ahead let’s step on their throats everyone type c in the comments section and make sure we take down the Raiders this month before we get to the projected lineups the overall roster Outlook and in what I thought was fairly interesting ESPN lists lists the biggest strength for the Cowboys as their Edge rushing rotation group here’s what Mike Clay wrote one of the League’s top Defenders Micah Parsons has led the position in pass rush win rate each of the past three seasons in fact since Parson’s arrival in 2021 Dallas sits first in pass rush wins with 89 and fifth in sacks and just three behind first Demarcus Lawrence is now 32 years old but hasn’t lost the step he post one of the top tackle rates and pass rush win weights among Edge rushers last season Sam l is back a solid depth and the team added Marshon nean in the second round of April’s draft if we’re counting Parson to Pure Edge and maybe getting to rotate in chony Goldston junor foko I don’t mind this um almost if if Lance ends up being a piece you could maybe argue quarterback would have been a short-term viable option there uh but even then I think you want to wait more towards the the top end and Parson is a better pass rusher than Dak is quarterback I think we’d mostly think all of us I hope would agree with that there so I don’t mind Edge being the pick um in terms of the biggest strength biggest weakness was running back I might argue defensive tackle by the way cuz that room is thin and I am very much worried about it but here’s the argument from ESPN’s Mike Clay this wasn’t a tough choice for a pretty good Dallas roster that very clearly decided to deprioritize running back this season out is Tony p and in is soon to be 29-year-old Ezekiel Elliott as the lead back Elliott is a franchise Legend but he’s no more than the football equivalent of an Innings eater at this point in his career that was further evidenced in New England when he posted his fourth straight season with below average yards per carry and yards after the the catch marks I think he meant after contact but still additionally there’s not much to get excited about behind Elliot Rico Dao 109 pound duvon and Royce Freeman I actually might argue that Rico dle is a better runner at this stage of his career than Ezekiel Elliot although it’s not like either guy is going to be massively involved in the same Workhorse way we’ve seen Dallas used backs previously so when it comes to the Cowboys roster obviously ESPN has them sixth where would you rank them among rosters in the NFL maybe the overall rankings is a bit higher knowing that there could be some debilitating flaws at one or two spots that kill you where would drink the Cowboys roster go vote at the pin comment of today’s show the 2020 for xfactor was actually two players it was the rookie offensive lineman or is the rookie offensive lineman Tyler gon and Cooper BB here’s what Seth Walder of ESPN wrote assuming they start they’ll play a critical role in protecting quarterback Dak Prescott and it’s a bit of a scary proposition for a team of Super Bowl aspirations most rookie offensive linemen even first round picks are below average in year one Dallas needs its picks to overcome the odds I do think being alongside Tyler Smith potentially for gon and potentially being in between Smith and Zack Martin might benefit BB as well but I do think that’s a valid point to make there has to be proper expectations for the rookie offensive lineman I think that’s especially true early on in the year and maybe things really get going for that unit which has the potential to be better and also worse than it was last season uh in terms of as the year moves along what I disagree with the most is this the top nonstarter is De marvan overon the linebacker and that’s not because I don’t like overshown I do in fact I like him more than Deone Clark here’s what Aaron shatz of ESPN wrote the Cowboys 20 23rd third round pick didn’t see the field as rookie because of a torn ACL in the preseason he’s a patient linebacker with lead speed and strong safety awareness and coverage don’t be surprised if he’s getting snaps the head of Deone Clark by midseason I’ll take it a step further I think overon should start day one look that does assume that he’s back and he’s healthy and returns to Performance and not just return to play but had overshown stayed healthy by the end of last year and really I think as soon as Leighton vanderash would have gone down not unfortunately he would have been linebacker one on this team the Cowboys were excited about him I think overshown should be starting for this team and I’ll be a bit disappointed fair or not if he’s not so do you think overon like me will be starting week one for the Cowboys get those votes in y for yes n for no let’s get to the ESPN projected lineup we’ll spend less time on some spots because obviously Dak Prescott’s going to start duh we know that they did list both backs Ezekiel Elliott and Rico D I appreciate that because hey it’s going to be a commit we know that they are going to rotate those backs and I wouldn’t mind adding another one via trade or roster cutdown time cuz I just think you’re thin at that group so of those two Runners because I think Zeke leads you in touchdowns by the way who has more rushing yards e for Ezekiel Elliot Rd for Rico dowle go ahead and vote in the comments of today’s show we’ll put the top three receivers together uh obviously CD lamb and Brandon Cooks one and two third is Tolbert I think that will be a battle but I also don’t mind putting Tolbert as the front runner for the time being the projected lineup then tight end obviously it’s Jake Ferguson the exact same five that we had listed uh at left tackle through right tackle Tyler gon he has to beat out of Doga maybe awesome Richards that will hopefully come in Camp Tyler Smith Cooper BB will battle Brock Hoffman Zack Martin and parent steel that Center Spot might not necessarily be a lock for BB now we will have multiple Cowboys videos for you guys every single day here on the channel because we are addicted to it hit that sub button for more free Cowboys videos youtube.com slowboys TV all right the interior defensive tackles which I I probably put it maybe as a weak point because I’m yeah if if Mazy Smith ain’t starting for you at DT boy that’s a red flag uh of course Osa is going to be one of your starters at least for red flag for Mazy at Edge Micah Parsons Demarcus Lawrence no surprise that those two guys check in there what I did find noteworthy was they put a third Edge on the dep on the list and it was MarShon nean I am curious what role he has in year one you know there’s a bit more investment from a Zimmer perspective since he did sign off on it I think nean does offer really good run stopping something this team needs at the along the off the defensive line Beyond tank Lawrence those guys weren’t great uh in terms of stopping the run last year flashes from guys make no mistake I just question how much pass rush juice was going to be at least in year one for nean would like to be pleasantly surprised though at linebacker Eric Kendricks yes he’s going to start I I don’t like the inclusion of Deone Clark um I think that should be Dem marvan overshown I also wouldn’t have mind if I curious how they would have put for the third linebacker if they didn’t put the the second Edge on there or the third Edge on there cuz there will be more three linebacker sets in Dallas this year now there was basically like two all it was like go line stuff only last year for the Cowboys they’ll use it a lot more frequently still not a ton but a lot more than what they did last season all right quarterbacks no surprise here Trayvon Diggs is CB1 Duron bland is CB2 Jordan Lewis is both cb3 and the nickel and then it’s safety Donovan Wilson and Malik hooker I would I’m very curious if like a Maris Bell A W Thomas can fight claw and earn his way into a bigger role there but I get why ESPN put Wilson one hooker two that could change though Zimmer once High football IQ players maybe someone impresses him in that area so before we go with what ESPN did how accurate do you think they were in projecting the cowboy starting lineup my main complaint was at linebacker grade ESPN’s projected starting Cowboys lineup for me A B C D or F [Music]
