Mekhi Becton OPENS UP On His Time WIth The New York Jets & Philadelphia Eagles | 2024 NFL Off-Season

[Music] all right guys what’s going on welcome in so Makai beckon of the Philadelphia Eagles it sounds weird to say that uh but obviously former high-end first round pick made by Joe Douglas and the Jets a couple years ago had some comments about his time with the Jets uh also you know talked about the current team that he’s on how much he’s looking forward to you know just playing with the Eagles and getting coached by the eagle staff and you know him wanting to be in Philly long term but I felt like it was interesting right because you know beckton hits the NFL as this you know enormous upside enormous body there was so much untapped potential coming out of Louisville you know the 67 body he had he was super light on his feet back in college he was able to pass protect but really in the running game is was was where beckon shined I mean it was so much fun to watch and then of course you know gets drafted to the Jets and is tasked with blocking for Sam darnold and looks amazing right maai beckon rookie year he I thought like based off of that season alone I thought he was going to be here like he was going to be the franchise left tackle for the Jets you know ultimately didn’t work out that way but you know year two rolls around and gets hurt right comes back season long injury comes back the following year and gets hurt again another season Ender I I think you know the big the word that comes to my mind when I’m thinking about Makai becton’s career with the New York Jets it’s frustrating right it’s frustrating for beckon himself it’s frustrating for the team it was frustrating for the fans right because there was great great moments there were some uh okay moments there were some horrible moments right uh We’ve we saw great football we saw bad football we had high upside SL potential we had injuries we had arguing with coaches uh really a disagreement on how the team’s approach or vision for beckon you know really what that layout looked like a disagreement between the two parties the Jets and beckon uh but here we are right now and beckon obviously has signed his contract a oneye five 5.5 million deal with the Eagles and when asked about the New York Jets he said I feel happier for sure I feel happier here having a great time here everybody is like a big family here I got Lane Johnson and Jordan Mada in the same room those are two guys I look up to they’re great players I’ve got coach Stout then we’ve got a great team here with Jaylen Herz saquon Barkley AJ Brown just seeing all the Firepower on this team it just made sense in regards to why he signed with the Eagles here’s another quote he’s probably had one of the best off Seasons here he’s played some guard at times and has done really well just a big strong powerful dude I think he’s going to help help us a lot this season this year whether he plays tackle or guard but a guy that big that can move that well we definitely need him out there you know personally for me I’m wishing Beck to nothing of the best right unfortunately it didn’t work out much like you know Zach much like a lot of these picks that uh Douglas has made Zach Wilson Elijah Moore you know these young guys coming in with like highend potential but they’re just not developing there’s some sort of problems uh whether it’s you know issues with the coaching staff issues with personal development uh issues with injuries it it’s just totally strange but you know looking at beckton and again being objective and putting myself in his shoes coming in as a young player a guy that needed to to Really develop coming off a really strong rookie year having the back-to-back gez back-to-back season ending injuries I mean that’s going to take a toll on anybody at any position it it’s just a brutal really in any sport right think of it like an M Mo if you had to do two back-to-back like Tommy John surgeries or in the NBA like two back-to-back Seasons missed like that’s mentally physically obviously it’s it’s it’s going to take a toll there was the whole issue in that second year of him getting hurt uh his third year in the NFL in total where uh he blamed the coaches the Jets coaches for you know moving his position from left tackle two R tackle uh he had his personal uh doctor confirm that that was part of the injury right because there was added stress on the surgically repaired knee and instead of the Jets just letting him roll at left tackle they wanted to kick kick him over to right and again according to beckon that played a part in him getting hurt and then this past season it just never really felt like Salah and beckon were on the same page um you know again where where the Jets were moving his position left tackle right tackle left tackle right tackle uh which they do with um or which they did with a lot of their tackles last season you know Carter Warren same story Max Mitchell same story Dwayne Brown was the only one that just stayed at left tackle um but in any case you know beckon finally stays healthy I think he played an all but one game this past season and there were some good there was mostly bad you know penalized a lot just didn’t really look like you know a future building block for the Jets New York obviously signs Tyrant Smith trades for Morgan Moses drafts Olu fashu I feel great about the tackle position moving forward so I I think in the end here the Jets are probably better off without Makai beckon uh but it seems clear that the Eagles really value beckon uh they want to keep him around his peers his coaches they seem to respect him so far and you know according to them he’s having one of the best off Seasons uh so far right up to date so I’m pulling for him but I think you know a lot of uh you know I can’t speak for anybody else here but you know really for me personally I’m I’m looking forward uh looking ahead I’m not really trying to focus on the past 2022 2023 or anything where we’re we’re trying to trying to move forward from just the mimick offense that was 2023 led by Zach Wilson Nathaniel hacket Todd down and Keith Carter everybody’s to blame um but again I am so excited for this off this is probably I would say the 2024 offensive line This o line unit for the Jets is my my favorite group on this football team right with just the additions when we talk about experience veteran leadership depth Talent uh older guys younger guys I really think that Joe Douglas knocked out of the park with the dressing offensive line maybe would still add one more guy preferably on the interior but hey we’ll see how it plays out anyway thanks so much for watching let your thoughts and as always go chats [Music] [Music]

  1. Im not going to say anything bad about Becton's time with the Jets after his rookie season. The field play speaks for itself and some mistakes made by Becton on social media but i consider him a friend he has been following my weight lost journey the entire time i been on my diet. He responds and encourages me. We all make mistakes i never wanted him drafted to the Jets i wanted Wirfs but Bectons Rookie year when he destroyed Aaron Donald in the Jets first win of the season he pancaked him into the ground i'll never forget that moment

Both sides needed a restart and i can't tell Jets fans how to feel but Becton is a nice dude. I wish him luck with Philly

  2. Unfortunately we had Becton during his adjustment-immature period into the NFL. He made serious money and didn’t take care of his body-diet. He went over 400 lbs! Not the Jets fault. I’m sure it was frustrating for the coaches. Hopefully he’s in a better headspace now

  3. Lol he thought he was too good to play right tackle. And then blamed the coaches when he got injured because he was too heavy and out of shape. He should never of been drafted in the first round

  4. The big difference about his experience in Philly so far likely lies within his own mindset. He didnt have a lot of offers and knows he needs to be open to whatever playing opportunity becomes open for him there. Whether that be G or T. He expected to be an LT with the Jets and getting moved to RT is what soured his attitude. His own expectations in NY are what hurt him.

  5. I actually like that Mekhi was absolutely the problem but he did come in here when we had Adam gase so he's been through the worst

  6. Man, fuck Mekhi becton. He’s going to be garbage in Philly because he’s not good. Bad attitude, bad conditioning, bad health, entitled whiney baby. Also, his rookie year was overrated. He was a G in the run game but he was getting abused in pass blocking sets by anyone who wasn’t slow. He sucks. He’ll be out of the NFL in two years

  7. He stunk last year giving up the most sacks on the Jets .24 I think. He will eat himself out of Cheesestake Capital, mark my words. They put gravy on mack and cheese there.

  8. This dude is the Mark Sanchez version of offensive linemen. I think he's better off as a sumo wrestler. Football is not his thang. 🤷‍♂️

  9. Saw this title and thought “Here we go, the moment we’ve all been waiting for” 😂 thankfully it seems like nothing but positive vibes. Happy the Jets moved off of Becton; his injury history, his prior attitude problems, and just the clearly rocky relationship between him and the coaches definitely soiled the well. I don’t hold any real ill will towards him, (unless/until he starts legitimately shit talking the Jets on a future podcast) hopefully he’s learned some lessons and can have a productive career from here on out.

  10. His personal doctor will tell him anything he wants to hear, he’s getting paid, he was avg to below avg at left tackle prior to ankle injury. After ankle injury, he was atrocious

  11. His PFF rating speaks for itself.. never had anything against the young man but now he wants to come out and play the victim and blame everyone else ..I was hoping that wouldn’t be him. Good luck, old friend. I wish you the best and I hope you grow up and realize that the only time success comes before work is in the dictionary. You can’t outwork a bad diet. And at this point, I doubt he worked that hard anyway.🤷🏻‍♂️

  12. If Becton was going to be a reliable tackle he would not have been let go. With the Jets he just was not reliable. I wish him well.

  13. For a big guy he never seems to square-up on his man, he locks his arms out with this hands together in the center of the opponent's chest as the passrusher speedrushes around him and at a certain point he loses leverage and gets over-extended and the attacker is in your QB's face. Great big body with really bad technique.

  14. I think the Jets screwed him over and I also think he screwed himself over. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. That 1st injury is a freak accident, no one to blame. That 2nd knee injury – he let himself get out of shape and being nearly 400lbs probably didn't help with a recovering knee but also the Jets foolishly moved him to RT, stressing that repaired knee even more. His 4th year, Saleh tells him to "earn it" for the LT spot. He comes in the lightest he's ever been at the pro level, participates all throughout training camp but they give Duane Brown – a 40yr old coming off shoulder surgery who did practically nothing at training camp – the LT spot. Becton performs terribly but he also had one of the most disliked and arguably ineffective line coaches trying to help him. Fact is – both sides screwed up. I'm glad Becton got another shot, I hope he carves out a long career and I'm also happy that the Jets improved the line.

  15. I am personally happy we do not have the man who led the league in sacks allowed and was 2nd in penalties on my team. Best of luck but no reason to think about him anymore with our stacked line
