[Matheson] The #BlueJays are “exhausting all options” to help Erik Swanson get back on track, John Schneider said. In his last three AAA outings: 2 IP, 11 ER His velocity and splitter are still sharp, but Schneider pointed to control. He’ll continue to work through this in AAA for now.

Honestly, just send him home and let him spend time with his family.

  1. Not just the last few outings either, it’s been pretty ugly throughout. Since getting sent down, he hasn’t gone consecutive scoreless outings even once and has allowed 10 walks and 6 homers (with 11 strikeouts) in 9.1 innings.

Also in related news, Aaron Sanchez has been getting hit extremely hard. In 8 starts, he has an ERA over 12 and has allowed fewer than 5 runs only once. In his last 3 starts, he’s allowed 22 runs in only 7.2 innings, including 4 homers in his last start.

  2. They need to shut this dude down, let him go home and be with his family, and then build him back up in the offseason.

They’re going to destroy him because they’re desperate for an arm; it’s despicable.

  3. Anyone happen to catch any of his rehab games who can confirm his velocity and splitter are still sharp?

11ER on 2 IP feels like more than a control issue, like those feel like numbers I’d put up and I only caught in high school.

I’d rather shut him down and avoid more injuries than keep slogging him out to get bombed. That’s gotta be rocking his confidence

  4. Such a volatile position. At least Yimi stepped up this year to being elite instead of just solid. Trevor Richards been nice too.

  5. good news: he only gave up one hit in a 12 pitch inning of work today

bad news: that hit was yet another home run

  6. Is that a typo? 11 runs in 2 innings? He should be in Dunedin with those numbers. Start over and build from scratch.

  7. What’s the maximum jail sentence a truck driver can get for hitting a young child?

  8. Throw him on the IL and get this guy back to Dexter’s pitching laboratory in Dunedin, guy’s just getting crushed out there.

  9. Ikr, while there’s maybe a chance for the season to right itself, I don’t think even Erik Swanson from last season brings the Jays right back into contention even despite the extra WC slots.

Just put the guy on one of the lists for mental health or family trauma and let him get back into a good headspace by spending time with his kid that he very, very, nearly lost.
