Who Do The Top Public Scouts Think The San Jose Sharks Will Pick At 14?

with the NHL draft on Friday what are some of the prominent uh public Scouts mocking for the the Sharks to pick at number 14 your locked on sharks your daily podcast on the San Jose Sharks part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day hello welcome to locked on sharks the premier prere hockey podcast Kev your favorite team in the Bay Area my name is JD young caretaker at The Reef also when we are on location in Vegas so if you want to be in everyday all you have to do is just follow on wh you get Podcast or you can watch on YouTube as well and today we’re going to be going through a lot of people’s final mock drafts uh plenty of friends of the show um etc etc just kind of seeing what the trends are what they think the sharks are going to do um of course we all know it’s Maan celini everybody knows it’s m celebrini um it’s Maan celebrini at number one but the Intrigue is for the Sharks is at number 14 and then potential guys who could be available um in the second round so we’ll go through some of the different mock drafts um and kind of see what what people are thinking here for the sharks so before we do all that though do want to let you guys know that today’s episode is brought to you by Game Time download the game time app create an account and use code locked on NHL for $20 off your first purchase terms apply so we’ll start with our bald King Tony Ferrari of the hockey news and of course number one mlin celebr uh he writes he infers or suggests that celebrating goes back so here’s what uh the sharks get the guy the future of the franchise is a little more clear with the addition of their franchise celebrating uh with their franchise Center excuse me celebrating will look great until at the end of next season after he wins one more Hobie Baker and makes another National Title run I don’t I I think he’s I think he goes Pro I I’ve been pretty yeah and even hearing the way he’s talk he’s being very down thee middle if you hear like some of his press availability and stuff like that um you know will make that decision etc etc I think mik Greer has already talked to him about that um and I think mik Greer has already said that he thinks he can play in the NHL next year and I think mik career is going to offer him a contract um to play in the NHL next year now if M celebr wants to go back to college more power to him um we’ll get to watch Boston University highlight or games all season but uh I think celebran is going to be a pro next that’s I’ve been on that since basically day one I think he’s going to be he’s going to be on the Sharks next year at the beginning of the season so um at number 14 he has the Sharks picking Becket senica the right winger with the ashaa generals with celebrating already secured the sharks can take a chance for a player who has seen his development spike in the later portion of the season season uh late in the season senx started to gain the coordination we didn’t see in the early part of the year after a growth spurt this led to Great finish with a really strong playoff if he’s there for the sharks at 14 it makes sense to take a swing this is also the player I picked uh in the locked on NHL mock draft um and I’ve if if senica’s there um you have to think really long and hard about that I know sharks fans want a defensive prospect um I just think senica is you’re looking at like a top Topline forward um he’s kind of baby giraff is right now where he’s he’s still figuring out his his body um but if he hits you’re getting a Topline forward to pair with M celb and to pair with potentially Will Smith or Eckland or whoever like his his ceiling is is out of this world um so so I definitely uh will probably have more on senica tomorrow um but senica is one of those guys where I’m circling really hard I don’t think he’s gonna get there to the Sharks but if he does if he does he’s a guy I think you have to think long and hard about uh potentially drafting there so um yeah I’m 100% on I would yeah if you’re walking away the first round with remember we felt last year with Will Smith and Quinton must you’re going to feel just like that if you’re walking away with M Labrini uh and Becket Seno like yeah you’re the sharks are looking really good if that’s uh and Sonica I wouldn’t be surprised Sonica has a musty like season next year where he just puts up like a 100 points and uh just dominates in the OHL like that that’s what you’re kind of projecting with with Sonica so um on to will scouch um so he does the way he does it is he kind of does like what he would do and then he does which he has a little bit different rankings and um and then he also kind of does what the gut pick so I I’ll go through that um number one of course is M celebrini he says what can I say it’s gonna be celebrini is gonna he’s going to San Jose we all know uh they know it he’s a great player and he’ll be a pivotal Cog in the future of the Sharks which should be a key focal point of the team diverse skill set remarkable smarts multifaceted scoring ability and a very good t foot impact player I see Zero issues love it um all right so what he does at 14 so Will’s pick is Teddy sta who I do love teddy sta but this feels very rich to me um at picking but again like will has um guys like constant helenius down to like 21 and he’s projected to be like a top 10 pick you know uh Liam Green Tree like he has a little bit load like um yakam Chuck he has like 30 um so his rankings are very very much different but here’s what he says so any Watcher of the show or follow the project knows I love teddy sta a lot he’s fast skilled relentless on the pursuit of the puck for checks remarkably well and plays like a player who’s been underrated his whole life um Ling celebrating of the Crown Jewel of the day but combining him with an intense High Pace skill forward with dual threat offense is tantalizing he’s been a remarkable presence uh during a huge amount of leg work for players like Cole Eiserman this season San Jose seems to want more beef in the lineup but sta brings beef of his own you have to set aside the numbers on a biogra uh graphical sheet of information anyway basically he says uh it’s basically gavid Brinley 2.0 that’s uh what you’re getting with Teddy sta but sta is probably gonna be realistically more like a late first at beginning of the second so the Sharks could potentially get him later so what he does for his gut pick though is stanan soberg the defenseman um so here’s what he says about stulberg uh Solberg excuse me brings a safety net physical play that could fit with any team but especially the Sharks he’s decently mobile relentlessly physical has quite the shot from the point that has beaten golender often this season he’s playing pro hockey this season heading to shl next year which may come with adjustment period but he plays a style that should work there no problem in my mind this is a bit early for taking soberg but I’m a Believer in the value of organiz organizational fit I feel as though he’d be one heck of a useful player for San Jose they can afford to be a bit cheeky here with all the players in their stable already and soberg could be a great ad so he kind of admits it feels like a bit of a reach there um but again when you have Smith and musy and celebrini and you know honin and all the guys at the sh you know EK and all the guys that the sharks have drafted it allows you to kind of and especially when you have now three picks in the second round it allows you to be a little you can be aggressive you can kind of be a little bit more prone to maybe picking a guy who’s fits your system a little bit more because you just have so much more around uh what you have I know the shark’s defense core needs some pieces here um but I’m I’m personally I’m still best player available if it’s a defenseman and if you do think solberg’s the be the one of the best defenseman cool but I just think that they the potential forwards that could be available whether it’s senica or iserman or whomever I think they just have a little bit more ceiling to them and I would like I we talked about yesterday I would kind of rather go shotgun approach in the second round and just pick a bunch of defenseman there and see if one them pops right because there’s I think that second tier there’s just a lot of guys um with not a lot of separation between them and I think the sharks can find some really quality defenseman there um if they do miss out on this top tier I would not I would I’d hate to reach for a defenseman to try to fill a need and leave better Talent on the roster especially when you have now three picks in the second round I would ra there I’m fine with kind of maybe a little bit more fitting needs there and just taking a bunch of defenseman and seeing which one fits but um I I still best player if it’s one of the six defenseman cool if it’s one of the forwards then like that’s fine with me so uh we’ll continue to look at some other uh mock drafts here we’ll we’ll dig into the athletic guys and see what they said uh here in just one minute if you want to get tickets let’s get to two more here um and that would be we’ll start with um Scott wheeler so he does a two round mock draft um he does not have this was done before the uh sharks got the 53rd pick but we’ll still kind of go with who they have there um because in that you’re just kind of again adding that’s gonna be the shark’s fifth pick at that point I think they’re just trying to uh you know accumulate good players so number one uh of course uh Macklin celebrini he says and I quote no brainer no explanation necessary Fair uh number number 14 for the sharks um he has Cole iserman he says if yakam lingers which I don’t think is out of the question I expect the Sharks to take him here at the big 60 are gone I feel like the earliest team that could take uh Stein soberg and Adam e Che as well the senses I have that soberg will go first but as once Scott recently said my circle say if eisan is there at 14 San Jose won’t pass on him taking eisan will continue to leave a huge home the Sharks pull on the back end relatively uh to at forward but I think the gap between Ean and the field of D here strong enough that the Sharks feel the same I don’t mind it at all eisman’s close friendship with celebrini they’re like family doesn’t hurt either would be a great story so interesting there uh with Eiserman like I just kind of mentioned I I know people there’s people in the YouTube comments who are like Eiserman all he can do is one thing um plenty of guys have made careers where all they could do is shoot the puck like that’s fine um will he probably want you leaving more doing you know playing defense or whatever El you know like kind of being a more well-rounded player probably but I I think this is again what celebrini does for you where he gives you such a Flor in Foundation um where if you put him with Eiserman guess what celebrini is good enough to kind of form his game around Eiserman and what Eiserman needs so I think yes there there’s huge question marks and potential red flag ISS not red flag but potential issues of you know can he develop the other parts of his game and I think going to to college is going to be huge in that regards there but I’m like he was going to be like the the he was projected to be the second guy off the board coming into this season and you don’t just forget how to play like do hockey things so um I’m I’m if eisman’s there I I’m fine with that pick so especially if the other defenseman are all gone at 33 he has the Sharks picking Leo Salin wenes the left-handed defenseman after surprise uh he says after surprising by passing on fing a clear hole at number 14 in favor of ecan the sharks make d a priority with their first pick of day two I expect they’ll take a d here even if they take one at 14 if badinka is here I think it would be him too and I really like badinka as well I’m kind of hoping he’s the guy at number 33 but um so that’s who he has there at 42 um Lucas Fischer left-hand defenseman out of sarum fer is held in high regards by NHL and OHL folks uh the public list I fully expect he’s going to be a second round pick he’s got a lot of Pro Tools as are pro budline and impressed at the combine both tested interviews uh the sharks be a great fit is they continue to build out their pull of D with the second pick of the second round um and then at 53 so he has this going to Nashville who originally owned the pick um Leon mug muli left-handed uh defenseman um the PRS take out of uh Sweden uh so the PRS take Roman us countrymen with the first of three light seconds if he’s goes in the range they can stand and continue add on D and I like the fit so if the shark want to again go with that shotgun approach of uh taking three defenseman in the second round I’m totally fine with that so um on to Scott uh sorry Corey prman um so of course M celebrini number one I’m 99.99% sure we’re taking celebrini we can they’re taking celebrini we can move on I think that’s I I just like reading the celebrini the ones uh because it’s they’re just funny to me so um at 14th he has the sharks taking ston soberg the defenseman stalberg is difficult to project because teams have a wide variance in opinions on him some have been rated very highly While others are wary of jacking him up too high on the list following a great world championships sharks need defenseman at 14 I feel like it’s going to be either soberg or Adam y here so if you do remember like well Mike reer um mentioned in his press availability like how much do you weigh you know these big tournaments compared to like a full season he said you don’t he said the word recency bias like you don’t want to get caught up on these recency biases like we’ve been watching guys for you know eight months you know to a year on some of these players like it can be easy to get caught up so I wonder if soberg if someone that’s one that they believe in like the tape don’t lie or if maybe you know the they don’t want to get caught up in the Dey bias with with him and now he’s really especially with the World Championships how really seen this stock kind of take off here so um they also so 33 doesn’t have write ups here uh but he has uh San taken Nikita ataran of the left Winger out of Russia um then at 42 Adam Cleber defenseman in the US HL uh with Lincoln at 53 John mustard Center out of waterl in the USHL which um we haven’t really talked much about mustard but mustard is uh very much feels like kind of a mic career type of guy um with the way he plays and of course going the the college route of I think is always going to make you know my career uh kind of especially with the flexibility of not having to kind of sign those contracts uh right away right you kind of get to Kick the Can down a little bit the road with their elc’s and stuff so um but yeah I think with that like you see maybe uh just at 14 just let you know kind of who was still on the board with this one um so right before uh was helenius um oop sorry wrong wrong uh one so sorry excuse me number 14 Zan pre went at 13 uh Michael hag uh went at 15 Adam jurrick Urich excuse me went at 16 and then Jet lenko went at 17 and uh Michael BR neard went at 18 to uh so and with Cole ezen going all the way at 19 so um some interesting guys there and kind of this one was definitely a defense run at the top uh with like uh silv going number three leov going number two um buam going six yakimchuk going eight like huge defensive run here kind of left some more forwards on the board so um we’ll continue to look at at at some of the you know we’ll look at two more um guy mock drafts here to kind of see who could be potentially available for the Sharks uh in just one second all right let’s continue with uh our good friend Stephen Ellis was on the show several times this year uh so this one was post uh this was the 25th So Yesterday um so he of course has mael bini going number this is essentially a done deal so much there so there’s not much speculation need to hear the sharks have no one center for the next 15 years the Canadian born pivot draws comparisons to Sydney Crosby and Jonathan taay celebrating a dynamic two-way forward who can score hits set guys up and is committed defensively he’s ready to step into Topline Duty with the Sharks next year so it’s pretty cool I like it um just interesting he he has leov going two demidov going three to the Ducks which would hate um but uh ainla going four Lindstrom going five Zan prick going six senica seven boam eight I’ve seen the Kracken alliv boam that’s the team you I think we have to jump um Dickinson nine helenius 10 um to the Devils yakimchuk 11 brookley Ken 12 Anon silv 13 and then he also has Cole Eiserman going number 14 to the Sharks if Eiserman Falls as far I can see the Sharks finding CBR as is a longtime Winger that helps out their best friends and former teammates at uh shnook St Mary’s Prep School Ice is the best shot in the draft class and having a stout playmaker already knows how to play him feeding him passes sounds like a recipe for Success just like I mention if that’s knowing your prospect pool and kind of where you need like and especially again celebr gives you so much like just such a high floor that like whatever you need celebrity to do if you need celebrity to just like dish out 80 assists in a season cool he can do that if you need like it just that’s that’s the beauty of celebrity guys um so next just to kind of uh Michael BR knard Green Tree um and then sber goes 19 to the golden knights just to kind of keep an eye out where he goes and then your Che goes 24 uh with to the ABS there so um yeah I’m yeah is remember thing like like the more I think about it sounds pretty good to me so um all right and then finally um Chris Peters so he has of course celebrini uh San Jose lands is franchise Cornerstone and the player they can build around celebrating his arrival in San Jose will bring some op optimism it could also bring uh directions to the rebuild having a long-term one-two punch of celebrini and Will Smith could make the Sharks a much more dangerous offensive team in the future and he goes leov silia linstrom demidov senica six to Utah which would be interesting uh brookley katton Z buam Sam Dickinson ainla to the Devils I can’t picture of the Flames Ping On ginla I think they’re but anyway Zan pre at 11 yakam so the kind of the defensive run there cona helenus at 13 and then you have um the Sharks going Stan soberg so sharks are going to need defense as on point and this particularly bare position for them Beyond Shakir Mulan soberg has been a remarkable late Riser plays a physical brand of hockey has mobility and would a great be a great stopper for the Sharks and then just some of the guys after um Michael BRC neard which feels a very Red Wings pick Michael um Cole Eiserman Jet lenko and Adam y kind of the next four picks there so um yeah again I’ve talked about soberg a lot on this episode so um next the second round um so he has Adam cleberg going number 33 to the Sharks the defenseman in the USHL um then at 42 Matt V gidan left Winger uh um from in the USHL with the Muskegan Lumberjacks and then at 53 um he has Aaron kavari I’m sorry terrible with name with his name there um he is the the finished uh defenseman I think he’s the one who uh yeah he like blew out his knee and basically missed like uh the entire season so um if he’s your third pick and especially with the potential upside that you have there um I that’s that’s a pick definitely worth taking a swing on there for the Sharks and kind of again they um taking a lot of defenseman early on I’m totally fine with that strategy I I think that’s a very solid strategy and then you can if you need to move up from your the third round pick move up to maybe try to go get ahead of the goalie run or start the goalie run or if you see the goalie runs happening like you can be aggressive there as well so um but yeah I think we’re seeing that trend of of soberg kind of being it’s soberg or Eiserman is kind of the big ones between all the kind of public Scouts there and I think that’s gonna be a very philosophical decision for Mike career is do you you said you’re going best player available is Eiserman if he’s there is he the best player available or is the you know like I think that’s the hard part of kind of comparing where you need you need defenseman in the pipeline we all know that right like the Sharks need defenseman in the pipeline but are you reaching considered reaching for a defenseman by taking Solberg um or Adam eek who I know a lot of the guys kind of a lot of the the head that has another potential option or you just saying Eiserman and he has one super super Elite skill and that’s putting the puck in the back of the net um and you can never have enough of those type of guys in your group whether it’s in you would have gusan uh Casper holon and Cole Eiserman as like your three just like locked and loaded snipers so I think that’s going to be kind of the big debate for Mike Greers you know what actually because that’s what he said right best player available best player available at 14 and what is the best player available is that the best player for that’s actually the most talented player or is this the best player that is for your system or your a need so um yeah we we’ll find out more on Friday um as uh we are here in Vegas so um that’s going to be it for me today tomorrow I’m going to do my kind of bang the table like these are the guys like if they are available at um 14 or I’ll probably do 14 and and 33 um guys who I am banging the table like the Sharks need to draft this guy if he’s there so um yeah that’s so we’ll have that if there’s any other news or any anything else that comes out um as we’re starting to kind of get see some trades and see some movements we’ll have you covered I’m here in Vegas for until Sunday morning so gonna have you guys covered plenty of draft stuff make sure you’re following wherever you get podcasts of course you can watch on YouTube as well uh follow the show on Twitter Facebook and Instagram at lock. sharks follow me on Twitter at my fry hole till tomorrow bye friends [Music]
