now Frank we are recording this episode live on YouTube a little bit later than what we expected to be but we are here uh as mentioned the Milwaukee Bucks had their first round selection tonight Aj Johnson a combo guard that played in the NBL last year he didn’t get much playing time uh so a lot of the hype around him comes from what we saw at the draft combin as well as some private workouts but Frank to rewind a little bit how what were your initial reactions uh to AJ Johnson being the newest member of the Milwaukee Bucks let’s let’s be real here for a second Frank uh I mean just like really him um first off shout out to s bassini from the athletic he had AJ first he had AJ Johnson to going to the buck at number 33 earlier in the day and then right before the draft he updated his mock to put Aj Johnson at 23 to the bucks um and as you said I mean you know pretty much you know pretty Anonymous season for ilara uh in the NBL uh ironically the same place uh the same team that lamelo ball played for in 201920 lamelo shot 37% from the field 25% from three and then was rookie of the year I think the next year right uh but lamelo played a lot uh Aj Johnson did not play much at all I think he played 200 minutes all year um you know average three points a game shot 36% from the field I think 29% from three 53% from the line all of these are tiny sample sizes he’s 19 years old turns 20 in December um so he is not being drafted for what he has done in live game action uh even in high school had a pretty circuitous High School career I don’t know what it is Camille about the Bucks just like picking people with just these weird backgrounds you know like AJ following in the footsteps of you know I always think of marjon and kind of his weird path that he took obviously that was pandemic impacted as well but um but yeah I mean you know first off as far as what he is he’s a combo guard as he said he’s 19 years old uh he looks like he’s about 15 years old Camille I don’t know real yeah you know it looks like um a missing child photograph when you see him it’s like you know an a age progression to get to 19 like he looks so young um you know very much a babyfaced 19-year-old at this point uh 64 I think in a quarter without shoes so you know in shoes he’s you know 65 66 68 and a half wingspan 167 pounds so he is extremely light which is one of the reasons why he had issues playing in a professional League last year uh in Australia I think you read you know scouting reports from Sam and others and the feedback there a lot is like like you just can’t could not handle especially offensively contact um and so it’s just it’s just one of these things right I mean you watch the Highlight Reel I mean he makes exciting plays you know uh you know he’s obviously got a knack he’s got a handle he’s got you know some pick and roll game um when the ball goes in and the highlights uh are packaged together he looks really intriguing but then you look at the numbers and you read about you know kind of some of the downside and you know he’s obviously a ways from being ready to be a professional and look we as Bucks fans we remember the last time we had this conversation about a guy seemingly you know unready to play two years away from being two years away of course that was you know the greatest draft pick in their history of the franchise that was Giannis so it’s weird because I’m I’m never gonna bury a draft pick right you know the F on the first night I mean how much time have I spent watching AJ Johnson’s game right very little um so I’m going to cross my fingers hope for the best there’s athleticism there I think there’s a feel for the game that you know the scouting ports that I’ve read are encouraging you know the Bucs didn’t pull this out of their asses just to screw with us as fans even though I think a lot of Bucks fans probably feel like what the heck was this pick this guy’s not helping us anytime soon we got a championship window we need to maximize um so again like you know you give me the the information that I have which is not a lot would I have picked him with the 23rd pick in the first round like absolutely not right I wouldn’t have the guts or conv to to pick make a pick like this um so whether the Bucks you know end up being proven Visionaries or just getting way too cute and kind of just completely missing the boat with this pick or something in the middle um but certainly as much as you hate or love this pick on draft night you know again like especially with this type of player it’s going to take a while before we can say anything to fin this yeah absolutely and to your point about not judging a draft pick immediately that’s the way I approach it as well like my initial reaction was like this is a shock like I thought of him as more of a second rounder I did see in the athletic mock draft that like right before the draft that it was updated to have him going to the bucks at 23 um just as a high swing pick for the bucks but yet and still that did not make me any less surprised to see that pick actually happen in real time and I say that with the understanding of what type of draft this is right we’ve talked about this at length with there’s not a lot of topend talent there’s no consensus in this draft this is a draft that is truly one that is in the eye of the beholder with a lot of teams that are going to have boards that are wildely different from one another uh because it’s based on what they see maybe even fit what they’re looking for so on and so forth so without that consensus there was bound to be just some chaotic picks or things that came out of nowhere um and that’s how this bugs pick for AJ Johnson came off to me because as you already mentioned um he has some good physical Tools in regards to his size 64 69 wingspan you see that there but he’s really really light like the NBL was too physical for him last year um and I mean the bugs mentioned it he’s mentioned it but he feels as if he was able to still grow as a player just experiencing that going through that having the discipline that comes with that um but the biggest surprise of this pick to me wasn’t necessarily it was just AJ Green or AJ Johnson we have so many ajs many ajs green Aj Johnson it’s gonna be we’re gonna be doing this all season right gotta get used to this one so that was the biggest surprise for me where from my perspective there were some guys on the board that seemed as if they were uh better suited to come in and make an impact a bit earlier than what I expect from Aj Johnson I get the high up swing like the high upside taking a swing for it especially at that point in the draft um but given the fact that the Bucks are in this Championship window we’ve talked about the urgency that they have so on and so forth I do wonder about the timeline of AJ Johnson’s growth with this team just given where the Bucks are right now yeah and I mean again like I I’m always super skeptical of any first round pick especially late in the first round you know we tell ourselves stories of like how much we like guys every year at this point like I I feel like Twitter should have a function where on draft night you should be able to read your exact timeline from the year before and read like what everybody was saying about all the picks knowing what you know a year later let alone like two three years right when guys have had like more of an opportunity to actually figure out you know like what these dudes are um but inevitably people get like totally ban out of shape because you know you passed on some like guy at number 45 or I don’t know like having covered the draft for so long one of my favorite examples Camille was I remember I don’t know the year that MarShon Brooks came out but I remember just like in the brw hoop comments just there were some people that were so angry at bucks did not get MarShon Brooks in the second round of whatever draft that was and you know like oh MarShon Brooks like there was stuff about like prac in the scrimmages he carried himself like Kobe and he mobed on this game after Kobe and it’s like guys we’re talking about freaking MarShon Brooks you know great great college career at Providence for those who might not remember MarShon Brooks but you know spoiler alert did not did not end up being a guy that you know mattered a whole lot and that’s unfortunately the reality of draft picks right um so I do think it’s I mean I think it’s fascinating that this pick was made I’m very interested to see tomorrow with the 33rd pick obviously they have not made a trade um there’s been lots of smoke you know relatively speaking for the bucks about you know obviously Pat hon and Bobby poris the perpetually available Pat hon Bobby poris no tra involving them um Brook Lopez obviously newer to this trade rumor uh machine that that we’re used to with with those other guys uh obviously there weren’t any moves with Brooke and a team like Memphis for instance drafted zachi you know like so um so I I think again like kind of similar thing happened around the T deadline you know I think some people just sort of like assume that something would happen like the Bucks would do something because it just felt like they needed to do something but again like I was talking with with our friend Eric name last night and Eric was just kind of like I just don’t see what they’re going to like it just doesn’t see you know Eric was making the point like I just don’t see like some obvious trade that that’s going to happen here um or just even the perception of what Like Pat and Bobby are worth throwing these picks like are there really like obvious things or like clear ways that the Bucs are going to upgrade right the roster I’m sure there are some things they could do but it’s not easy and that’s the thing right like it’s always easier to not make trades than to make trades and so I think for people that kind of just like expect trades to happen because like ah the Bucks need to do something like they probably need to shake things up given how things went again like we’ve seen it with John horse you know these past few years obviously they like their core um and we’ll see you know for the rest of June into July we’ll see if they like it enough that they really stick with the the core four again for for another around um but yeah I mean I the more I kind of thought about the last couple days like the more I felt like yeah there’s a great chance they don’t do anything and you know I think certainly not only keeping the pick but keeping the pick and taking a guy who’s you know a project very much a long-term type of play sort of underscores the fact that well hey I don’t think probably there were any home run trades that were available to them so you know obviously there were lots of question marks Mar s about how valuable these draft picks were in the first round this year given the perception of this draft um and as we mentioned not like Pat and Bobby have like huge markets that everybody was banging down the buck stores to make offers for them so you know draft picks that maybe aren’t worth a ton some of these veteran guys that maybe would be available not necessarily like at a high point in terms of value um you know the net result obviously is the Bucks here on at the end of day one of the NBA draft look exactly like they did you know throughout the past four months or so with the exception of obviously adding one very young player who at this point obviously barring something very surprising doesn’t figure to to you know play a role in in kind of night toight rotation next year so um you know obviously that’s kind of disappointing but I’m I’m totally fascinated to see what summer league looks like cross my fingers that he’s going to be healthy and you know doesn’t pick up some injury that keeps him out of summerly because there’s just so little you know of him on film playing at a high level and um you know it seemed like the combine was probably a huge factor in the Bucs making this pick and you can go watch those on YouTube but you know that’s literally two days two games that he played I think he had 13 points four assists in the first game he had four points six assists I think he only had one turnover um two days across two days yeah 10 assists so um obviously again like without that like do the Buc even entertain this maybe not right um so again either that’s the Bucks leveraging you know information that gives them an Inside Edge on a guy that that has perhaps higher upside than anybody else realized or they’re overreacting to very very small sample so we’ll we’ll see I I don’t know that we’re going to get a ton of sample size of AJ Johnson next year um so we may need to tune into uh her games uh to to get more of that we absolutely might I mean there’s a lot more to discuss here with AJ Johnson joining the bugs tonight like his perspect like how might he fit uh with his ceiling like if he does get playing time what do he like next to Dame some questions just around the roster uh itself and I mean we talked about this was a good pick or not in our opinion I’m gonna speak for you in this moment Frank it’s a little too early to tell it’s draft night of course there’s instant reactions to it but time will tell and summer league kicks off July 6th if I remember correctly so it won’t be too long before we see AJ Johnson take the court for the Bucs assuming health so a lot more to talk about with the Bucs number one draft pick right after this break let me be honest with y’all for a second here okay because one of my least favorable qualities is the fact that I can of the lockon podcast Network your team every day now Frank one thing that we talked a lot about leading up to the draft was will the bugs trade their draft pick it was on the table for us thinking about it like hey they already have four young guys on the roster the other two ajs AJ Green Andre Jackson Jr Chris Livingston and and marjon Bo champ so we were thinking like okay they have two draft picks in the 2024 draft if they used both of them they would have theoretically six young guys on the roster unless another move was made seeing that they took with this pick uh someone who doesn’t even project to be playing meaningful minutes in the NBA next season does make me wonder around that combination of young guys that the Bucks do have on this team and what the future might hold for some of those guys because um we’ve talked about the Bucks needing more athleticism the Bucks need to get younger uh and with this pick they definitely got younger and they got some athleticism there but I don’t we don’t I’m speaking for you again but it doesn’t seem like he is going to be playing this season so I do wonder what that means for some of the other young guys on the roster uh in their development as well yeah um I mean you you look at the kind of just the the roster math right now right between Giannis Dame Chris Brooke Bobby Pat marjon um that’s seven guys uh addin AJ that’s eight Chris Livingston nine Andre Jackson that’s 10 um so let’s assume Pat Bev is back let’s assume well I don’t even know what to do with the nases at this point like you know like I don’t know let’s just assume they give the nasis back because literally it’s the you know Jann’s tax one more time um that would put you at what 12 guys and then um you know you’ve got basically three more spots so is it these two draft picks um you’d have one more veteran uh roster slot available right that you could use um to to kind of find run out the roster to get to 15 so um so yeah I mean as we’ve talked about with Justin I you know carrying two rookies plus Ajax plus Chris Plus AJ Green Plus margon just feels you know way too heavy on children um versus like what I would expect the Bucks would want in terms of of Veteran types um so I think some things kind of got to give there in terms of like all these guys so I think you know as you alluded to the question is does that take the form of the Bucks trading number 33 tomorrow you know I think that’s one of the interesting things about the two-day draft which by the way I’m totally fine with this like spreading this out we got two days of content Camille you know uh I’m totally fine with it although I will have to say tonight as we were getting the end of the first round I was thinking like man kind of wish should we just like keep going get over see let’s see who bus get with 33 um so yeah part of me was kind of you know man kind of just want to like keep going knock this out but uh I don’t mind at all it’s kind of weird like I some people oh spreading this for two days like well I like the NBA I like more basketball coverage is fine with me um the weird part is it is starting at 3:00 Central although I didn’t realize until Justin said it on yesterday’s pod pointed out that it’s because of the debate tomorrow night otherwise it would have been just very weird to to have the NBA draft on at three o’clock on a Thursday afternoon but um but I think certainly for the teams it gives them you know a chance to actually breathe and assess and kind of think things through because certainly the second round you know every two minutes making picks I mean things happen very quickly and to be honest I’m amazed how much movement there is with second round picks in general given how little time there is and how much people are just having to to move um so we’ll see um yeah I mean I think something kind of has to give but as a fan who’s now like vaguely invested in you know some of the draft prospects that that I’ve seen and you know I think just to give folks an idea of of who’s available let me just see I think I just had the uh just had the list of kind of like best Avail best best available guys um still on the board um so some of the names still available uh Tyler Smith power forward from the G League Of Night Kevin mcculler Jr Wing from Kansas Johnny Fury um shout out to Australia Fury just seems like a fake name like you know like an RBI Baseball fake name or something but no he’s a real human being 69ine uh guy from Australia Kane Kane was interviewing the other day so Kane I’d be okay with Johnny Fury being the pick purely because then we can have Kane talk about what it was like meeting Johnny Fury we we’ll have to see you know he uh Kane did uh chat with u Aj Johnson tonight there’s the uh the NBL connection there as well so we’ll have to get Kane’s Kane’s download there um Kyle filipowski uh from duke Adam Bona from UCLA athletic big man Bobby Clinton another NBL guy he’s a Swedish by by background um and then I guess just smattering of other guys um Oso gar Marquette person who I’m sure many of our listeners know well Jamal shed um point guard from Houston kind of hard-nosed uh point guard a little bit undersized not a great shooter but winner blah blah blah um cam chrisy interesting guy um freshman from from uh Minnesota kind of shooter uh shooting guard type type Prospect um Kad Johnson who uh I believe the Bucks had in on as as a workout as well you I I don’t know if there’s any others that that jump to mind or that I that I didn’t hit Camille but um certainly again in the spirit of like you know Hope Springs Eternal we’re all excited about random second rounders um I certainly you know hey number of those guys I would be happy with um you know like a filipowski guy who I wouldn’t have been happy with at 23 like second round sure but now it feels different yeah exactly like you know he’s he can be our uh our our polish mo mo Vagner uh wouldn’t that be what everything we always wanted out of a second round pick yeah he probably could be I mean I want to talk a little more about the second round tomorrow because one thing that’s so interesting about the draft being two days now is that to your point it gives teams a little bit more time to think things over and I do wonder if we see a flurry of trade activity in between night one and night two because teams have had time to think it over re-evaluate their draft board and in addition to that to the draft being two nights the second round is a little bit longer now as well instead of the two minutes for each pick they’re getting four minutes for each pick in the second round so it’s going to be a longer uh evening going through the second round than we’re used to in times past but let’s afternoon afternoon afternoon that’s I’m so used T night yeah afternoon for sure but let’s talk a little bit more about that after this break Frank you mentioned some really interesting names that are still on the board who could be a fit for the bucks in the most recent athletic draft like I mentioned when they had Aj Johnson mocked up to 23 the guy who they had in that 33rd spot happened to be alsoo igodo from Marquette uh defensive big who’s pretty versatile I don’t see him as a true five at this point uh not really an offensive guy as well he has a nice little floater that’s unusual touch for a big guy I would say um he’s an offensive Hub type of guy and seeing that mocked him I was like okay I can I can kind of see like we’ve heard that the bugs have been in the market for a big um which is part of why The Pick of AJ Johnson was also like oh my goodness because we watch uh khil wear go at 15 to the Heat and I was like of all the teams he went to the heat which is already like I I don’t want to see the heat uh hit on somebody like that if that’s where they’re going uh we see the Nuggets trade up right before the Bucks to draft Don Holmes another big who a lot of bugs fans were looking to get for the team as well um and then when the Bucks do make their they get a combo guard Who projects we’ve talked about again defensive versatility he projects to be somebody who could become a good Defender but as we mentioned at this moment just doesn’t have the strength on his frame to consistently do that again you’ve seen flashes of it looking good for him but again we’re some time away still from that but there are some bigs on the board still as we have mentioned uh Bon from UCLA is one that is intriguing to me now as a second round option for the buckss but yet and still I mentioned it even with the idea of getting a center or big in the first round for the bucks which is okay we hear that we hear the smokes the smoke around the Bucks looking to possibly trade Brook Lopez engaging the trade market on him um but I kept saying like I I I get it and I understand it h but do you trust a young 20-year-old something guy to be someone who anchors your defense so I do Wonder with how the board has shaken out for the bucks if you know the Brook Lopez trade rumors if they died down a little bit as you mentioned before like what could they really PIV or pivot out of with that uh asset so it’s going to be interesting to see how it goes if the pig is Oso that would make that raise a little eyebrow for me because I don’t see him as a true five long term but it does make me wonder about his fit if Yannis was a five long term with him next to him in that role but again the shooting still not there for him of course you hope it can be developed but that’s not always the case yeah I mean I I watched um was it the Maui tournament was that is that what they they were in that last year ma tournament yeah when they played UCLA in Kansas and you know had some really encouraging uh you know signs there um so I watched Oso in that tournament and then I watched him in the NCA tournament uh the ladder was very underwhelming yes um and I just generally like didn’t really I know I didn’t really come away from that thing like this guy’s you know an NBA 5 right he just felt like he was more of a kind of undersized five who’s going to be able to run some dribble handoffs and you know finish some lobs and you know maybe be a little switchable or something like that so yeah I I Oso is not a guy I would look at as a particularly good fit for the bucks um I think filipowski is interesting in the sense that like I think he fits the mold not of Brook Lopez but of Bobby poris to be honest a lot similarly in terms of being a pretty versatile offensive player better pass F than Bobby again like he’s not gonna I’m not expecting I’m not saying he’s going to come in and like score like Bobby ptis does at the NBA level because that’s unreasonable like Bobby’s a really accomplished scorer at this point maybe not a super high efficiency guy given his shot diet um but I think filipowski could eventually be a guy like that right I think that’s kind of his upside as being like that sort of you know bobbym Vagner like third big man type of player doesn’t have you know a great defense set of defensive instincts obviously or you know huge defensive toolkit um but but again like if you did draft a guy like filipowski um depending on how he evolves like does that give you some cover to to trade Bobby poris for instance right like again super tall order to draft filipowski at 33 and then say okay go go replace Bobby pises you know 20 to 25 minutes like that’s not really that’s not a normal thing to happen um but we should say that really about any any of these guys right um and it’s not just because the Bucks have been bad drafting that I see although that’s part of it um they Bucks have obviously not had a track record and I think honestly that’s part of why there’s you know when I see the reaction to this pick I think it’s you know overwhelmingly like WTF I think it’s a mixture of like people are excited to root for AJ Johnson nobody like holds it against AJ Johnson that the Bucs picked them um you know he’s a buck now and I’m sure everybody’s going to be rooting for him obviously and hoping that they see what the bucks on him um but by the same token you know um he’s just not what kind of you were expecting and um again I I totally get the frustration right of feeling like you know bucks yeah you hit on Giannis incredible changed our lives but since then you know have the Bucks drafted in a way that like gives you the makes you want to give them the benefit of Doubt when they take a cut like this like no Bucks have not Bucks have not shown that they are some you know Visionary drafting team that like can pick these guys out of the woodwor and um you know see something that that no one else sees and that’s that’s what this pick kind of is um so I don’t know I mean I will say like as I was watching kind of some of his highlights I mean and reading kind of The Scouting Report from like San Vini in particular like I think the stuff that encourages me is like yeah I mean it’s nice that like if you take your most optimistic view of his upside and kind of the building blocks of his game like it seems like maybe there’s all he can do everything you know like obviously he’s not going to be like a super strong bullying like guard or something like that but um the athleticism the fluidity John horse just did his press conference talked a lot about his speed and deceleration um it sounds like in Sam’s kind report that maybe playing at different speeds wasn’t really a strength last year that he was mostly just trying to play fast and put pressure on defenses you know had some pretty impressive you know driving attacks of the rim dunks on guys things like that which is you know important to see right that he’s got that level of explosiveness um because I think especially as he gets stronger that will pop even more so if he’s if he’s explosive even when he’s you know 167 pounds and um not really particularly strong then you obviously there there’s a lot of hopefully untapped potential there um but the fact that like if if the stroke which looks good seems like he he could become a good shooter uh at the NBA level the driving is there he’s got some playmaking ability like you know he can be elite ball handler and then defensively you know that was one of the main things Sam’s pointed out was that over the course of the year he really was engaged defensively and you know you look at young guards like defense is typically not an area especially for physically underdeveloped ones that you would say is a strong suit typically so if he’s already you know has the makeup up of of being at least a high effort Defender who’s going to make the most of his toolkit which hopefully will be improving as he gets in the weight room and starts working with you know MBA conditioning staffs all that um yeah I mean again glass half full uh there’s there’s a lot of upside kind of on both ends it seems with him um but the time is now for the Milwaukee Bucks and obviously uh being able to take advantage of that maximizing their Championship window they could have used this pick perhaps more importantly theoretically in a trade right that would have probably been the thing that would help you maximize your window the most um and obviously at this point like you know once you make these picks you’re generally not going to turn around in two weeks and trade them especially with a guy like this given where given where most people thought he was gonna get picked so he’s gonna be a buck for how long we don’t know um and you just hope that he gets enough opportunities and he shows enough trajectory that like you actually get a chance to really get a feel for what he can be and he doesn’t then just just end up being a guy that just doesn’t play and you know in three years you just like a well I guess we’re not GNA pick up the option because we just don’t know what this guy is yeah you’re hoping it’s not another like Rashad Bon uh situation or something like that when it comes to AJ Johnson and to wrap up I just want to say again like I I definitely understand the initial reactions I understand I see that in the comment section as well as we record of just a lot of overwhelming um I can’t believe the bugs made this pick what are we doing so on and so forth and again it’s a high up like it’s a swing pick for the bugs they see a guy with a lot of potential in their eyes so they’re going to take the chance and see if they can develop into something because when you’re picking 23rd in the NBA draft normally you don’t get an Allstar so they’re trying to just say like hey Let’s do let’s try to get a prospect that we think can be something special the thing with that again is that the Bucks are a contending team and the window is is is open right now we know the level of urgency I did see Eric n from the athletic our good friend over here he tweeted out a question that I believe he asked to John horse and I think this could be a great way uh to wrap up this show and Eric just asked how do you balance drafting one of the skinniest youngest players in the draft with trying to think about how that might fit on a team trying to make a championship push which great question Eric uh John horse responded by saying quote I think part of it is looking at the growth and development of our current roster I think we saw AJ Green get on the floor last year we got Andre Jackson Jr to get able to get on the floor Chris Livingston’s having a great summer we have a roster with young players that are growing and developing and they figured out how to contribute already on our team a really good team it doesn’t mean that Aj Johnson can’t do that but I feel very confident about the group that we already have so that gives us an opportunity for him to grow and develop in the right way mature in the right way both both physically and his game but he’s got incredible speed and quickness he’s got a pass first mentality but with a really high level scoring game and so I think he fits within that group skill set wise and I think those guys all have different skill sets that they bring to our table and he brings something that maybe Andre Jackson is the only other one that really brings from a speed component I love the way he plays at different gears he can go fast he can play in second gear third gear he can really slow it down he’s great at deceleration which is something that we study a lot and so is his change of pace I think it’s going to give him a chance to although he is skinny he’s a lot stronger than he was he’s already getting stronger he’s got a great frame but that’s not going to be his gift it’s his speed and his fluid athleticism and really his mentality end quote so that’s how John horse is seeing it and and looking at this pick again time will tell if this is going to be something that hits in the same way as we mentioned with a a Giannis pick not saying he’s going to be all NBA player but just saying Yannis in the sense of a draft pick that hits right a high upside swing pick that hits he can be somewhere in there or as I mentioned could be like another Rashad Von time will tell but uh the Bucks are gonna be back on the clock tomorrow go ahead I think Camille I think we got to get him to Rocky R Cocos uh help slices scks if anybody can afford to just go on the Rocky R Coco diet get them cops custard hamburgers um you know let’s cver just let’s just this this kid can afford to eat anything he wants um and uh hopefully some healthy stuff too uh but uh but you know he’s coming to the right place if he wants to put on put on some lbs um and some fun some interesting trivia like I I saw his coach in Australia last year Midway through the season Jason Tatum’s dad took over as the head coach so I don’t I I don’t know how I feel about that uh he’s friends with the Tatum I don’t I don’t know what to make of that uh but it is what it is um and I think the other interesting piece was he’s been on Jaylen Green’s aou team has worked out with Jaylen Green from the Rockets they’re really good friends apparently yeah for quite a while Jaylen green was was there tonight and if you were paying attention I didn’t pick it up the first time but Jaylen green was actually right there I gave him a hug um as he was uh you know celebrating with his family before he went and shook Adam Silver’s hand um which by the way that was the only thing that I didn’t like about the two round thing it’s like the the the guys that didn’t get picked um I don’t know how many were I I saw that I saw a reference that there were still you know Green Room guys that didn’t get picked and have to go back tomorrow I guess for the second round um that sucks that is unfortunate um but you know whatever I guess uh it’ll be worth the wait for those guys tomorrow but not exactly U not exactly a lot of uh finality for them on night one of the NBA draft uh showing up in your your best suit do you wear the same suit cam I was going to ask that do you have a second suit do you yeah are they are there going to be a lot of like you know budget looking suits tomorrow because you know you kind of blew your good suit today and you got all sweaty and gross and now you gotta wear something different tomorrow I don’t know so we’ll see uh someone someone’s going to have to do some detective work on this but um not not AJ Johnson’s problem I’m sure he’ll be in Milwaukee to meet the media very soon and uh I guess before before we drop um when the pick was about to be made were were there any guys that you were like really kind of holding out hope for like I think you and Justin mentioned khil where you had been interested in I was also bummed to see him go early to the heat uh but anybody that you were like crossing your fingers or again was there a group of guys that you would have been you know happy SL were hoping or might get get called when when uh when they went to the Bucks pick for me it was Taran Shannon Jr uh just thinking of like just the skill set that he had I was like this could be a really intriguing Wing Prospect so that plug and play guy probably right that’s what I was hoping for or even Ryan dun the offense scares me a bit but at least he has an NBA ready skill set with the elite defense so I was like I could even go with that because I could see the Avenue from him getting some playing time so those were two guys uh for me where I was like oh they’re still on the board when we were picking I hope it’s one of them uh but it was AJ Johnson and now that he’s a buck I’m rooting for his success for sure so how about you were there anybody on on the board for you that you were hoping the bug Scott yeah I mean I think where being gone I think was he was like the guy and it’s funny because like with wear it’s like what do I really know about khil wear and how confident am I that he was gonna you know be some great pick for the bucks not that confident right of course um we don’t know um but I could at least talk myself into the idea KH well pretty easily because he had the kind of Inside Out game the size and kind of the defensive projectability right so you could easily sort of say like I could see that guy being kind of the air Apparent at Center that that was kind of the The Pick of convenience but of course kind of went out the window um so yeah Shannon was probably again the most like plug-and-play guy like just narrowly thinking about like who could we pick that could maybe actually make a run for rotation minutes again is he going to be the starting shooting guard um maybe a bit optimistic but I mean right now who’s the starting shooting guard like AJ Green right I mean like the bar is is not that high shout out to AJ um so AJ gota clarify going forward now AJ Green probably AJ Green but maybe Ajax maybe Andre Jackson has a better chance I don’t know um so yeah those guys kind of come to mind but I I don’t know I mean I honestly like there were you know some of the guys like Philip p did not want to take at that spot I was he was definitely a guy I was like like kind of hoping would get picked so that the Bucs wouldn’t pick him at 23 but at 33 sure whatever he’s a very productive player like good pedigree blah blah blah um so so yeah I don’t know we’ll see um Fury I thought was interesting not the guy I would have like you know picked out of a lineup to go a 23 but again like 33 like sure why not um but it’s just I think it’s really interesting because again how many young dudes do you want to carry on this roster um you know I don’t know I’m sure Chris Livingston and marjon and uh well especially those two guys are probably eagerly seeing if more guys are going to get picked that could potentially uh battle them for these scant rotation minutes that they probably aren’t going to get anyway but yeah I know we’ll see we’re gonna see we’ll also see tomorrow if the Bucks keep that pick who is the going to be the newest newest Milwaukee Buck so make sure that you stay tuned in to lock on bucks we’ll have you cover with the buck second round draft pick if they make it and if they don’t we’ll still be here to give you an update on what happened with it so for Frank and myself we’ll catch you later

With the 23rd pick in the NBA Draft…the Milwaukee Bucks selected combo guard AJ Johnson.

Camille and Frank break down Johnson’s skillset, if this was a good pick for the Bucks, and discuss what his fit on a contending team might look like.

  1. Worst or Horst pick ever ! We have few ways to make the team better and we needed someone to play a role this season . Too skinny to do anything but sit on the frocking bench !πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
Just depressing . WTF if you wanted to waste the pick trade it for something !

  2. Dont know about this one. Yes if he grows another 2 inches and gains 40-50 pounds of muscle he will become something. But the issue is that he is not going to play in order to improve. The difference with giannis is that he 6.6-6.7 when they drafted him and he was playing from year one even just a few monutes with those increasing year on year. This lad is not going to see the court over the next 2 years minimum

  3. As a buck fan who live in Kansas and watches Kansas basketball I can confidently say, Furphy needs work, I like AJ Green in that role rather then Furphy. I would also take Kevin McCullar over Furphy
