the pick is in the Cleveland Cavaliers have made a selection in the 2024 NBA draft I’m tanra batist and we’re joined by Danny Cunningham from locked on Cavs to break down the Cavs selecting Jaylen Tyson with the number 20 pick presented by LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the qualified candidates you want to talk to faster so post your job for free at linkedin.com Lockton NBA so first things first Danny what do you think about the Cav pick of Tyson at 20 so I think this is a good pick for the Cavaliers um they got a player in Jaylen Tyson that fits a need that they have I believe he is someone that has a bit of a higher floor although I don’t think it’s going to be a sudden adjustment as to where he is a an impact player from day one the Cavaliers like his shooting they like that he did a little bit of everything while at Cal obviously that won’t be his role in Cleveland he’ll go from a high usage role in college to certainly a lower usage role with the Cavaliers playing alongside guys like Donovan Mitchell Darius Garland Evan Mobley and Jared Allen but he’s someone that can provide some versatility on the wing he measures out at 6’6 6′ 7 can be versatile defensively can be a shot maker on the outside can do some creation for other players although he obviously won’t be tasked with being the primary Creator the way that he was in college so overall I think that this is a good pick for the Cavaliers and like you said there’s an opportunity there to develop him because they do have players if you will but I also know that the cows are looking to make some moves in terms of getting to the top of the conference so that said how does he kind of fit in Tyson in terms of giving them some quality minutes especially as the season goes on and he begins to improve so he is someone that is obviously going to have to earn his minutes it’s not often that the number 20 overall pick is a guy that can come in and immediately impact winning now we have seen guys certainly in recent drafts that have been drafted in that area maybe not with number 20 specifically but if you look at a guy like haime hakz who the Miami Heat drafted last spring at number 18 overall and he was an impact player that could sort of be the blueprint for Jaylen Tyson to where he can come in he can be in a lower usage role and the Cavs mentioned general manager Mike gansy met with the media after this pick this evening and he mentioned that the bar isn’t all that high here for the Cavs and for a player draft at number 20 no matter who it was it wasn’t going to be somebody that they needed to come in and make a big impact but while on the floor he can be someone that is a good shooter maybe not a great shooter not someone to refer to as a sniper so to speak but he can be a good shooter that can improve as he gets more catch and shoot opportunities and easier shots that are created for him by others so that’s really where I see his early impact for the Cavs being if he’s able to work his way onto the floor for more on the Cavs subscribe to locked on Cavs on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts and for more on Jaylen Tyson let’s get an inside look on his path to the NBA Cal Wing Jaylen Tyson is among the best shot makers in this draft class I’m Andy Patton the host of the locked on college basketball podcast Tyson is a six foot six Wing who exploded as a 20o per game score last year for Mark Madson at Cal after a productive season the year prior at Texas Tech Tyson’s ability to score from just about everywhere on the floor as well as his crafty passing and overall versatility should make him an NBA role player from day one with the upside to be a legit starting shooting guard at the next level for more on Jaylen Tyson Cal and all things college basketball check out the locked on college basketball podcast on YouTube or wherever you get podcasts and for continuing coverage of the 2024 NBA draft subscribe to locked on NBA on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day
