Hearing that on his way out, Alex Meruelo will donate $1M to @azhockeylegacy & an additional $1M to maintain Coyotes youth hockey programs. In addition, $8M will be dedicated to remaining staff in the form of compensation & health insurance at least through the end of 2024.

  1. I truly hope it’s enough. Not just ice hockey but they have amazing roller and street hockey programs for kids 7-13 that I hope keep going

  2. Let’s be real, the donation is nice but you can’t convince me he didn’t do it mostly for a tax write off. And giving your employees a severance package when you quit and dissolve a company should be a standard and morally expected. You get no props from me and I see through your bullshit AM making this a public statement. This is something you do quietly because it’s the right thing to do after making a crapload of money at the expense of everyone around you.

  3. Maybe got a whiff of just how much people hated his behavior, and decided to turn a new leaf? Naaaaah, who am I kidding, it’s a tax write-off.

  4. I’m happy for the employees benefiting, but damn it sucks for the ones just laid off that got 2 weeks.

  5. So 1% of the sale price?

Not to sound ungrateful, I’m glad it’s there to buy the programs some time, but not worthy of much praise.

  6. i want to look at this like it’s a nice thing but that’s 10 million out of the 1 billion he got for the team. he has 990 million left to do fuck all with. it’s a drop in the ocean. better than nothing but still pathetic.

  7. $1m is basically 5 seasons for 1 youth hockey player. Shit’s expensive. Source: hockey player and hockey dad
