With 233 hits this past season, Burroughs ranked fourth in the NHL in that category amongst blueliners.
He played higher in the lineup on one of the worst teams in NHL history, in a higher role than he’d play in Los Angeles.
Most importantly: **”His contract is also structured to where he could be assigned to the AHL and not cost the Kings anything against the cap, coming in at $1,100,000 for two more seasons, just below the maximum amount that can be assigned without staying on the cap.”**
In his time with Vancouver, while he did not produce a ton of offense, he ranked inside the NHL’s Top-40 in terms of goals against per/60 during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, out of more than 200 blueliners to log more than 1,000 minutes. In the right role, on a team that was just average, he was a low-event, physical defenseman. Not a point producer but kept the puck out of his net at a nearly identical clip to Mikey Anderson. In the right role on a team that could be better than that, without a ton of expectations…..willing to take a bet on a better statline.
I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I know enough about Burroughs to say if he’ll be a contributor. But Grundstrom was only in the lineup part time and we need room for guys who are showing more potential to get time as well. It also clears up some cap. Part of making good moves is not falling in love with the current roster.

as he shoots right i imagine he is 7th d/ahl depth Assuming Spence is on the opening night roster… tho, if they were to move off of Spence for someone like Chychrun, he could slot into 3rd pair right side. i like this trade for the flexibility it provides and opens a spot for some of our younger(cheaper) players to crack the lineup

Great another right-hand defender. Could have at least got a lefty.
This is a terrible trade. The player we are getting had one of the lowest +1 for defenseman in the entire league last year. He’s also owed $1.1 million which means we’re getting a bad player above market value. Grundy was super serviceable for us. Especially in comparison to Burroughs. It’s another boneheaded and head scratching trade for this team. Everyone will be complaining about this trade by December.

Feel bad for that guy in the sub that bought his first jersey and it was a Grunstrom this season
