Brock Faber was robbed

Bedard wins the Calder. Brock was robbed. Boycott the NHL.

Voting Results

Edit: ya know what’s crazy? In the last 5 years we’ve had 1 legit Calder winner in Kaprizov. This year we had 2 potential Calder winners in Rossi and Faber(Faber won in my mind). And if Boldy played a full season in his rookie year, he probably would have won the Calder.

Just bananas to have this many young guys on the Wild outperforming other teams rookies.. we got a bunch of young high level talent people, the years to come will be good to us.

  1. That highlight reel beforehand was straight up disrespectful. Hughes got like, what, 5 seconds of footage? He’s a Calder finalist for godssake, there’s gotta be more clips than that.

Anyways, knew this was coming, still mad.

  2. I personally think Faber was more deserving considering the role he played for the Wild. That said, everyone knew Bedard would win because he’s one of the poster boys for the NHL and points matter more than overall play.

  3. I think Rossi was robbed more at #6, than Faber’s getting 42 1st place votes…

  4. Voting was a lot closer than I expected. Fact is defense wins championships but not awards unless you’re a goaltender. Our young guys make me excited for the future of the team regardless of whether they’re winning awards or not. Still a team game. Even Bedard couldn’t lift the Hawks out of the basement.

  5. No surprise. Bedard had it won the day he was drafted, maybe even the day before..

That’s just the way it works

  6. Rossi coming in at 6 hurt my heart, buddy put in all the work, would have like to see him crack Top 5.

But the most outrageous thing of the whole vote…WHAT CHUCKLEFUCK GAVE FABES A 5TH PLACE VOTE!?! That is some anti Wild bias if I have ever seen it.

  7. The lads need to use this as motivation to come back next season and prove a point.

  8. I’m not upset Faber didn’t win it, Bedard was bound to get it.

My question is: who are the 3 voters that were incompetent enough to give Faber 4th or 5th place votes. They ought to have their voting priveleges revoked.

Dude was far and away top 2, and it wasn’t particularly close (as evidenced by the other voters). Even voting him for third is a bit questionable…

  9. Who gives a shit? Brock is a homegrown rock solid stud. He’s got a hell of a career ahead of him and should be proud to have been in the running.

  10. Isn’t it funny that we were saying the same thing in 2011 when Granlund, Coyle, Zucker, and Brodin were young guys.

  11. Silver lining, Brock was the most versatile, being the only one to get a vote for every place ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  12. The one guy that gave Cooley a 2 place : “Wasn’t me, I’m not from Scottsdale…quick, look over there”

  13. Total fucking robbery! Faber was hands down the rookie of the year amongst anybody that knows anything about hockey and what a 25 minute per night player means to a club.
At a full season and 80 points, Bedard would still deserve 2nd.

    Unfuckingbelievabke!

  14. Take comfort, every single first place vote that voted for Faber, made an educated vote.

Many of those that voted for Bedard did, but likely not most.

We also have Faber on our team, which is fucking awesome.

  15. I’m not mad because I knew it would have been happening. Putting up point is more impressive than consistent defensive play while leading your team in TOI, posting the most TOI in a single game in the regular season (and 4th most ever by a rookie since the stat is tracked) and not being injured.

It is also true that Bedard led the Hawks in scoring while missing time and the Hawks were a shitshow so maybe he could have potted, say, 100 points if he played on a semi decent time while not missing time. But this also sparks the argument “if you’re gonna lose, it doesn’t matter by how many” that says that Bedard was basically free to do anything he wanted because Chicago sucked regardless and he scored points without caring for any other aspect of the game. This is an exaggeration but his +/- speaks this story, even if it is a debated stat.

All in all I expected a tighter race, I didn’t really expect Faber to win. The best I can take is that there aren’t enough rookie goalies to call for a trophy split because this season Bedard was clearly the best rookie forward and Faber was clearly the best rookie defenseman but it’s hard to find conclusive argument for one to be better than the other.

  16. Im a wild fan. Guys the mn bias here is crazy. I love Faber and he is a stud. Bedards best teammate is Jason Dickinson. He is 18 years old on a horrendous team. He played outstanding and you can blah blah blah all you want on his + – but he deserves it. Faber at least has a competent team with a decent d corp with brodin and spurge and a few good forwards. Bedard has noooobody. Anybody who really thinks bedard is undeserving of the award is completely minny biased.

  17. Nah, not robbed at all. Honestly pleasantly surprised with how many points he got – there was a huge gulf between him and Hughes. Only person not named Bedard to get first picks, and took a quarter of them.

Any rookie who scores at a PPG pace is going to have the Calder as their’s to lose.
