Carolina Hurricanes poised to sign Jake Guentzel, trade Martin Necas
the canes have to do something something’s got to happen like now it’s bubbling actually like something is got to to give got to happen like 30 minutes ago I I’ve I is it a jake gensel long-term extension maybe maybe is it a Martin Nature’s trade yes maybe is it something we can’t even see coming perhaps yes all I know is the tension is palpable you cut it with a knife and the NHL draft which is happening tonight feels like some form of a deadline for some of these moves and and that means the closer and closer we get the the like the faster the Jaws music is going by the end of the show it’s like that’s where we’re at every Insider seems to have some idea of some big move that the canes are going to make and in a lot of cases the same Big Move that the canes are going to make which the right the more and more smoke the more and more likely there is fire Frank saravali of the daily Faceoff has some thoughts on the n’s possibility of being traded today I think the canes are back at square one I think they I think they were closing in on a deal that didn’t get completed and I think now what happens next yeah so I was initially really hope ful or it was trending in a direction that he was going to be traded before round one or at during round one and now I’m really not so sure here’s what I think that means they were close on a deal and now they’re calling other teams and saying you’re back in the running and guess what that just means you have to operate quickly because these deals still should be I mean if not over the Finish Line right there because the the the NHL draft is coming we’re hearing things about the number four pick from Columbus possibly being involved in a Nature’s trade uh we’ve talked earlier this week about the number 10 pick from the Devils possibly being involved in in a natur’s trade here in the 11th pick from Buffalo we’re here in the seventh pick from Ottawa all of that needs to happen before the draft yeah obviously or else you lose all of those suitors right all of those potential uh buyers you you lose them when they hit those those those picks so before the draft during the draft or else the the the possibility for bidding wars and things goes down so if you’re Eric tolsky if you’re the canes like I said that every Thriller has a good ticking clock right there’s there’s the digital clock in the corner of the movie and it’s counting down and then while you’re dealing with that right this is this is where you need two cell phones one held up to your left ear one held up to your right ear left ear all Nature’s trades right ear Jake gel’s agent on speed dial like that’s the bat phone just for Jake gensel because it seems like Jake gensel who by the way not that many weeks ago I hope everyone can hear how excited I am right now I I feel like it’s it’s like things are happening uh yet nothing’s happening yet nothing’s happening it’s I I used this example off there a second ago it’s like we’ve shaken up the soda can and now we’re just it’s either going to open and explode or settle down over the next Peri of time but it’s shaken up I’ll tell you that much uh just a couple handful of weeks ago there was talk of the can’s trading the rights to gensel away just so they could get anything right just so they could get a fourth round pick so someone else could give him the eighth year now suddenly every Insider Elliot fredman Frank saravali I mean on and on they’re all talking about gentel the Carolina feeling like a done deal Elliot fredman was on with the pat a show and this is what he had to say about gensel the belief is that gensel had an ask for Carolina which I have not confirmed but I believe it’s 8times 8 and I think the hurricanes have indicated they will do that they have said to him we will do that contract and I think at this point in time we’re waiting to see if it gets hammered out there are some teams who believe he’s going to stay there are some teams that team who believe teams like Tampa Bay are waiting to see if it does happen and if not they’ll Tampa Bay and Vancouver they’ll try to take their runs gel but the word here in Vegas this morning is that Carolina has indicated they will match uh gel’s ask and they’re Welling willing to put together a contract well congratulations to the KY X nothing is done until it’s done thank you for the congratulations Mr McAfee I’ll take it eight years 64 mil so yeah 8 time 8 what he means is eight years at $8 million per year so yeah total total value of the deal is 64 million bucks which you know what what do we know make iten yes please like I do you want me to be polite do you want me to be do you want me to scream yes eight years 8 million per every single time there’s some reports out there that Martin NES could get 6 and a half or $7 million per year if you TR that if you trade NIS and he gets a $6.5 million per year and you keep gensel at eight and the only difference is 1.5 there’s more than 1.5 difference there in the players that you’re having this is one of those deals where uh Eric tolsky has the chance to be pretty much universally approved in his first major move as the the Kane’s permanent GM it’s it’s now right and and like I said fredman has it this guy has it that guy all a lot of reporters are doing the I believe it’s looking like the the canes and and gensel I’m not saying this I don’t have a report on this yeah but a lot of times when multiple reporters are doing the same like if I were in this situation this is what I would do or you know if I just had to guess what’s going to happen this is what’s going to happen and they’re all making the same guess that usually means they know something but no one went on the record with it yeah so they can’t come out and say you know sources say 8 years 8 million per because no one’s willing to go on the record with it but they’re pretty darn confident you talked about like Eric tski just instantly becoming like fan favorite Yep this uh comes from Chris from our YouTube live chat uh he says Dr tski if you pull off resigning Jake gensel then you are a living legend let’s go kanes especially because like when he became the permanent GM it didn’t feel like this was possible and then what a week and a half later suddenly it feels like a done deal that’s how you get me on your side yeah let’s go that’s how you get me and then execute the Nature’s trade well few other side moves like the the obvious moves long-term extension for Jacob slaven long-term extension for Seth Jarvis which are big decisions but I think are you know some arguments there’s like four sides some there’s two sides I think those arguments are one-sided it’s like yes do it and everyone’s kind of in agreement uh if if you get those handful of things done I mean you kick your feet up and you enjoy a nice little nice little break uh starting about mid July like you go have a good time now the execution of the Nature’s trade is something we’re going to have to talk about throughout the show um that fourth pick from Columbus is mighty enticing if you can somehow make it work I would be extremely nervous dealing with Don wadell who is now the GM of Columbus just because he knows like the the inner hopes and dreams of tski but if you truly trust him I mean you got to trust someone in this life right if you truly trust him to find a win-win for two organizations that are in different places Donnie deals is is realistically looking at at tolsky and saying listen we’re rebuilding you’re win now let us let us scratch each other’s back here then you just better double check you’re crossing your te’s and dotting your eyes he you know if you get a top if you get a top four pick or heck even a top seven pick you might be able to draft somebody that you can play right now a super cost control like less than a million which is very important because it sound it’s sounding more and more and more like the top two pairings of defensemen in top two lines of forwards are going to be a little pricey which I’m fine with mhm that but you do have to then become creative with filling out the rest of your your lineup
