BREAKING: Raptors Make MAJOR Decision on Bruce Brown… | Raptors News

we have a major update regarding Bruce Brown’s contract as a lot of eyes were on Messi Jerry Bobby Webster in terms of what they decide about picking up Bruce Brown’s $23 million contract option and they decide to pick it up and this is serious implications on what the Raptors are going to do regarding trades for Bruce Brown and other players in the lineup including Gary Trent Jr because right now if we’re going to give Gary Trent Junior the contract and we bring back Bruce brown or even bring back contracts that are even close to the money that Bruce Brown is going to Net in return and there’s not a lot of bread to go around for Gary Trent Jr for some of the other players on the roster if we don’t want to enter the tax which doesn’t make any sense the Toronto Raptors become a tax team after the season we had last year so we’re going to break down the news break down the update and what this means for the Toronto Raptors going forward but before we do folks again we’re single thing regarding the Toronto Raptors this off season but let’s dive into the report let’s dive into the news as W came out and said that the Toronto Raptors are picking up the $23 million option on guard Bruce Brown’s contract sources tell ESPN Brown will be a valuable trade asset and an exp on an expiring contract for the Toronto Raptors so we just essentially spells it out why the Toronto Raptors went in the direction of picking up this option for Bruce Brown because clearly he didn’t live up to expectations he wasn’t the guy that is super deserving of a $23 million you know trade op maybe he is but in the current Raptor team in terms of the stats that he’s putting up as well that’s a lot of break for a dude averaging 11 points per game 4.2 rebounds three assists not playing Elite defense 64 so not crazy young you know shooting 32% from behind the three-point line again he did earned that contract with this Championship run so I don’t want to say he doesn’t deserve it but in terms of fit in terms of the current situation that he’s in with the Toronto Raptors group it’s uh not the most optimal use of assets and money because we are loaded right now at the guard position the Raptors have obviously RJ Barrett Emanuel quickley both who are on large large contracts we have Grady dick and now jacobe Walter Off the Bench for the Toronto Raptors at that shooting guard spot two young guys that space the floor shoot the ball are going to be part of the future of this organization then we have question marks you know about the star boy Gary Trent Jr whether or not he’ll be back he’s a free agent as well as we discussed at the jump of this video but we also have other guides guards now Davon Mitchell who was brought in one of the more Elite Defenders out there in the NBA you know we got Jamal who we just drafted in the second round of this recent NBA draft there are a lot of guards going to be vying for minutes trying to get some opportunities don’t forget like DJ carton some of those dudes that were in two-day way deals to close off last season the Raptors have a ton of guys at that guard spot and Bruce Brown doesn’t necessarily fit the timeline doesn’t necessarily fit the situation spacing that would be optimal around a Scotty Barnes and RJ Barrett sort of lead wi tandem but is definitely a good basketball player and one thing I will say is we shouldn’t bag on the guy and this is not me calling Bruce Brown a bad player just not the greatest fit timeline wise fitwise he is a complimentary role piece and you know he did have something to say about Raptor fans essentially wanting him gone you know someone said last day of Bruce Brown on my team during the draft night and he said damn y’all really want me gone huh you know calling out the fans doing that type of stuff and it sucks to see because I admit like I’m in the camp of we should probably trade Bruce brown but this is nothing to do with this character nothing to do with him really as a basketball player I think he’s a talented role player but just doesn’t make a ton of sense fitwise on the Toronto Raptors team moving forward especially to a great extent if we are paying Bruce Brown $23 million and it’s going to put us over the tax because again do I care if B or Rogers you know are are losing a bit of bread on Bruce Brown got to pay the tax no but if it impacts future Seasons because I want the Raptors to be back in contention back into the mix you know a few years down the line we can take a look at the salary situation right now for the Toronto Raptors group I mean if it’s going to affect our ability to pick up a mid-level exception three years down the line the fact that we were a tax team this season especially with Scotty Burns and you can’t see Emanuel quickley or Scotty Burns massive contracts that were added to this mix you know into the the recent updated list in terms of our scotting because they haven’t officially happened yet but if we’re going to be paying 50 40 odd million annually Scotty Barnes $35 million annually Emanuel quickley $30 million close to 30 25 to $30 million for RJ Barrett you know then we have a year in the tax of Bruce Brown we have yaka purle contract there who knows what’s going to happen with Gary and we just picked up two contracts you know making a salary cap deal bring in Davon Mitchell as well as sasov as nevv I mean it sucks it doesn’t make sense it doesn’t make sense to strangle us to handcuff Us in terms of our options our flexibility moving forward in the future and basically on Twitter there was a little deep dive a little write up from anel ganga in terms of how this will look for the Toronto Raptors assuming they fill the 13 roster spots with vet minimums to leave one uh for the the non-t taxpayer mid-level exception and one for the taxpayer uh exception opting into Bruce Brown’s contract will give them $1 million in space below the tax with the two open roster spots so not enough to use both the T non- tax player mid-level and the tax player midlevel exception but without going over the tax until they fix it so but they will likely not want to spend any time over the tax at this point in the season it’s too risky if they can’t make that their uh the future moves in months down the road and duck the tax at the deadline however if they move Brown first they will they would be $32 million below the tax enough to use the non-t taxpayer mid-level exception and um the $10 million trade traded player exception so that’s a the the direct that’s a TP I’m mixing up my acronyms there not taxpayer mid- level exception and the traded player exception that we have from Pascal cakam so this also assumes that they take back uh they take back Zar when trading Bruce Brown so whenever they take back money for Bruce Brown that will eat into the 32 million so basically like that that’s a lot of words a lot of uh basketball sort of lingo to summarize that in a bit more plain English the Toronto Raptors with Bruce Browns option now picked up have $1 million left to play with in the off seon assuming they uh want to you know go over just vet minimum players you know for uh for signing guys during this summer which makes sense right we want to bring in some guys we want to build out this roster whether we’re competing or not right we want to have a well constructed team moving forward in the future take a flyer and some young prospects and stuff but now with Bruce Brown’s contract we don’t have a ton of bread so that’s bread out of the pockets of Gary Trent Jr that we can offer up again unless we want to go into the tax exceptions which have significant rules that impact the future of winning so assuming Gary Trent Jor going we still only have 11 million so that’s tough that’s a tough decision for Bobby Webster MSU Jerry to make and even if they trade off of Bruce Brown if they deal him away you know this offseason make one of these moves happen they’re going to have to bring back salary the value in trading away Bruce Brown is the fact that teams can get an expiring contract so we’ll probably have multiple years left on that contract extension in terms of uh play pieces that are coming back in a Bruce Brown deal so that’s probably decent amount of money so there’s still not a ton of room not a ton of movement for the Toronto Raptors to bring in a Gary trener to bring one of these guys back so I don’t know this move signifies to me along with the DAV and Davon Mitchell pickup along with the Sasha VZ neov pickup that Gary Trent Jr might be on his way out the Raptors don’t want to give him that contract or if they bring him back that we should expect a lot of moves to go down different trades to go maybe regarding yaka purle or more stuff going down at the trade deadline in order for the Toronto Raptors to not be over the cap come the end of next season so that’s essentially what this indicates for the Toronto Raptors here right now this option regardless of Bruce Brown stays if he gets traded it’s going to be much more difficult to bring back Gary Trent Jr here now at this point and if they’re all back there’s not going to be a lot of run a lot of opportunities a lot of time for Grady dick for jacobe Walter you to get opportunities to get out there on the basketball court which I know next season a lot of people want to see the young guys get some run get some uh burn out there on the basketball court but let me know what you guys think about the torona Raptors picking up Bruce Brown’s option I think it was a positive but there’s more moves to be made as Bobby Webster said not one home run move for this Raptors group it’s going to be you know 10 to 11 of the right decisions the Right Moves   6. I think Bruce brown's a good guy and solid player he just got traded to a team that doesn't hasn't truly set their identity yet and because of that I think BB would be better off on a team competing like OKC, my eyes would be set on Nikola Topic if I were trading him there

  8. Just get Bruce brown out of here, not a good fit for our team or lost his spark. He looks confused and timid on the court. Plus, that contract is way too much. Try to trade for a good cheap piece, re sign Gary.

  11. Gotta let Masai and Bobby play this out. I suspect there will be at least a few more transactions before the start of the season. Perhaps the Raps are also betting on Brown to play better this season so he brings more value to a contending team at the trade deadline…? Good point however that, as things stand now, $23M for a guy that will not be part of the Raps rebuild / future doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

  18. When Masai flips brown for a first round pick in a stack 2025 draft, or a nice young player then you guys will understand why he picked up his contract. Go on the post woj made about us picking up Brown’s contract and look at all the quotes from fans from contenders that were hoping we would let him walk so they can pick him up for free. These teams and their fans want Brown but obviously NBA GM’s aren’t stupid and won’t outbid themselves if they can just wait to see if we let him walk. Look how far the Kings took it to get Pascal by bad talking his game so we would except a bad package from him. Offers will start coming in for Brown now that teams know we’re picking up his option and they’re not getting him as a free agent. It’s all about if the raptors think they can get a good deal for him now, or at the deadline.

  20. Listen People – GTJ is a sign and trade (to help him get the most money), he ain't coming back, they have 3 SG's in Grady, JKW, and OA, there is no room for GTJ. However the Raps need a back up SF, enter Bruce Brown, or Sasha is the next option – not good. They'll need to get a SF back in any trade involving BB.

  28. If we can't move him before the season starts the home crowd better cheer their butts off for him. He deserves to know that it's nothing personal. If the team was ready, we'd be thrilled we got him.
