NHL Draft Day 1 Reaction from Sphere Las Vegas | Winnipeg Jets NHL Draft 2024

[Music] join Winnipeg sports talk live from the NHL draft in Las Vegas presented by Kolb beginning on June 26th well that is a wrap for round one of the NHL draft here in Vegas at the sphere and now re uh very quiet night for the Winnipeg Jets we heard from Kevin chevret out beforehand who you know talked about Nikolai eers it certainly didn’t sound like anything was imminent there but what everyone was wondering about was what would become of the Rucker mcgi situation and as of 32 picks into the draft nothing has changed yeah and we you know the reports on 32 thoughts earlier this week from Elliot Freedman saying likely to be traded before the draft and right now it’s after round one so no trades yet you know whenever they had that trade alert thing which I’m sure we will talk we were sure we will talk about some of the very cool graphics here I was like oh is it uh Winnipeg will they get into the first round but they did on and rer mcgi remains Winnipeg jet Nikolai eers still part of the Winnipeg Jets organization you know when when we spoke with Chev day off earlier and if you haven’t seen it the entire availability is up on the Winnipeg sports talk YouTube channel um moresh asked him about the recer mordi situation and you know Kevin said and I understand this you know there’ll be a time in the place to talk about everything but as of right now Rucker is a prospect to the Winnipeg Jets meaning I think they were open to and obviously discussing a possible move of the asset but that didn’t happen certainly something could happen tomorrow but um they didn’t use the asset as part of a package to move back into the first round now the Jets do pick early tomorrow we’ll be here bright and early starts 8:30 Pacific Time a.m. so 10:30 in Winnipeg and the Jets will be on the clock at 36 with the pick of the Montreal Canadians and as we’ve seen and we knew this was the case from all the uh the draft experts we talked to teams list from 20 to 40 to 50 I mean a big jumble so there is still talented players available and um winipeg jets didn’t feel the need like a few teams did to trade some picks to move up and uh we’ll be finding out who the first selection is with the Jets barring a trade very early tomorrow morning in the proceedings yeah Kevin CH chevel we know that he’s patient we know that when he makes a move he feels like it’s going to be beneficial for his team we saw it last year with P Luke duah was at the draft in Montreal two years ago or duah went with his bank we all thought a trade was going down and it didn’t happen uh till last year’s draft in Nashville so I don’t know if reer is here with a bank or anything and maybe that’s why the trade didn’t happen but uh well you know what we’ll have to wait and see he’s got a pretty good track record when put in a tough situation pulling the Houdini and getting out of well and listen I mean this is not back against the wall territory for Kevin sh they off rer mcord said he was going back to Michigan they’ve got his race for two more years I’m still of probably a small minority that thinks that maybe things like time can change a lot like I’m not sure that this is a closed and done deal that he’ll never be a Winnipeg jet I think it’s probably more likely he isn’t considering everything we’ve heard but listen stranger things have happened obviously we’ll be here tomorrow with more coverage of the winnter pick Jets picks and everything happening around it that being said tonight tonight honestly it was about a few things mlin celebrini M the number one overall pick and the sphere this the visuals the experience of being in this building I’m not sure I’ll ever see anything like it in the rest of my life I mean it’s hard to even describe or put into words just how visually stunning and incredible the production the National Hockey League put on for the 32 teams and the 32 young men that were selected in the first round yeah you’re absolutely right hus last year at the draft the star was Connor Bard he had the biggest scrum uh the most anticipation we’ve seen you know what his rookie card did MBR knew he was going to be number one so not really suspense there but yes the star of this draft was the sphere I don’t know how you can have it in any other location um the graphics for each team in between picks um you know not your traditional draft and you you know even if you’re just waiting looking at what they’re showing here on this massive screen that takes up the whole thing incredible I mean uh you know when Chicago’s picking they’re showing the Chicago skyline you feel like you’re downtown Chicago La they had you know the LA well I hope that tomorrow in the Jets pick we get to see what Graphics they had for winipeg be very disappointed we don’t get that I assume we will we’ll have the cameras ready and we’ll try and show it to you the one other thing that was really cool about this draft was some very special individuals that made selections yes it started off at number two with Connor Bard making the Blackhawks second overall pick which I thought was really neat number five Seline Dion stole the show coming on to pick the Habs pick and that was a really really cool moment considering everything that she’s been going through Marty bro dur made the uh the devil’s pick but for my money the highlight of the entire night was Michael Buffer let’s get ready to rumble Philadelphia native getting up on the podium and making the best pick of the draft at least the way it was picked when he said let’s get ready to rumble it introduced jet penko the 12th over all pick for the Flyers unbelievable theater here in Vegas yeah you’ve seen that a lot in add NFL drafts so they have special guest but they really brought it it’s Vegas it needs to have some kind of show element and Selen she’s done shows here for years you know obviously grew up in Quebec and her making I think that was a huge pop uh when came out it was uh totally unexpected I was like oh my God uh Selen that was super uh super cool and yeah it’s not Vegas without one you know Michael Buffer or Bruce Buffer saying let’s get ready to rumble or or the Bruce Buffer it’s time we got Michael for this one he said Philadelphia native so uh well done teams you know bringing some I don’t know Showmanship here to the draft which I feel I feel like hasn’t really had that the last couple years well early in round two it will be time for the Jets to finally make a pick uh we’ll hopefully if the uh draft pick is here in attendance uh get an interview with him have that for you as well as complete coverage of everything goes down with the winipeg Jets selections as well as any potential player movement involving the club as well as hearing from Kevin shiel day off and their director of scotting Mark Hillier at the end of the event um so that’s going to be a wrap for night one and round one of the NHL draft pop back in by our YouTube channel as well as all our socials at sportstalk wpg for more from wst at the NHL draft presented by Kolb bet we’ll see you tomorrow from Vegas

Andrew “Hustler” Paterson and Michael Remis give their initial impressions of Day 1 of the 2024 NHL Draft live from Sphere Las Vegas.
