[Scotto] Sources: Indiana Pacers forward Jalen Smith is declining his $5.4 million player option and will enter unrestricted free agency, @hoopshype has learned. Smith shot a career-high 59.2 percent from the field and 42.4 percent from 3-point range for the Pacers last season.

I don't know enough about our cap situation (other than it being not great), but I'd love to somehow replace Niang with Smith.

  1. I think releasing and stretching Niangs salary at a reduced rate over a few years could make it work along with using our MLE? Honestly again, super unsure of how cap stuff works.

  2. I remembered this guy existed like a week ago and apparently he’s actually good and fits what we need? Yeah use the MLE on this man I’m tired of having no backup 5 and only having small backup 4s(Wade and Niang). He can shoot that means he can fit in our rotation

  3. He’d be a solid addition. Could spot start a few games if needed. Cavs gotta jump on this

  4. If we could do a LeVert, Niang and a second or two trade somewhere for a smaller salary to free up a roster spot then we could make it work. Just unsure which team would do that and who we’d get out of it.

  5. If we can swing the money, he’d be an ideal 4/5 backup for us. Soak up the minutes when either JA or Mobley are sitting (or both of Dean is healthy and we’re running smaller), without giving up too much on either side of the ball. He moves very well, has good IQ and shoots great. With Atkinson coaching we could have a 6moy candidate right there if all goes well
