Warning Shot: Amari Cooper vs. the Cleveland Browns

Amari Cooper uh he’s been quiet you know they’ve been working behind the scenes for negotiation uh purposes and I think they will get it done I’ll preface my my conversation and say I do believe that they will get this job done however let’s take a look at an article um that talked about uh Mar Cooper and he still reiterates the fact that he wants that he wants that that bag Browns of Martin Cooper speaks out am contract hold out I’m trying to get paid this year uh this was by uh uh sha mcken um it was in I believe CBS uh as well cbs.com uh Cooper did not show up for offseason workouts or mandatory mini camp uh in this article talks about Cleveland wide receiver Mar Cooper did not show up for offseason workouts or mandatory mini camp and it appears to be contract related Cooper is in the final year of his $100 million extension that he signed in 20 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys so he is looking for a new extension everybody knows that in Cleveland we talked about that at nauseum um you know throughout the offseason Cooper is subject to fines missing the mandatory team activities and if a deal is not agreed to by training camp there’s a chance he could hold out for the the season as well members of the organization have spoken about the situation but Cooper himself has been quiet on the matter until now during an interview with uh a better a gaming company uh Cooper was challenged to a foot race while he said he would not beat he would not be beat um he declined the competition for fear of getting injured and jeopardizing any future negotiations he noted that he could pull a hamme or something while running adding I’m trying to get paid this year uh further further proving uh that his absence is uh contract related um the 30-year-old is a smart is a smart play to the 30-year-old is smart to play it safe um because while while injuries have occurred um with a potential new deal on the line he wants to he wants all the U he can get on the side Cooper obviously put up some nice yards last year 1250 yards um you know 17.4 yards per catch um and he also led the Browns and targets at 128 in 15 games with DeShawn Watson coming back uh in a major Pro it year trust the veteran receiver will be big for the team moving forward as they look to finally capitalize on a massive deal that they gave the quarterback Watson has expressed the value he feels Cooper brings to the team and believes that the wild is is the best of the best at his position um and and you know right there I I I couldn’t agree uh more uh I think uh he is the best out of the best he’s one of the best receivers in the league and I’ve been seeing a lot of different these these trades going around where Mari Cooper’s traded for left tackles and he’s traded for all these other guys and I’m just like even last week the big the rig rumor was him for um Brandon auk and you know I was I you know I had that uh that blog that I put out last week and I said I wouldn’t do it because you can’t have all these new receivers like Jerry Judy and Elijah Mo who basically didn’t play with DeShawn Watson all that much last year and if you trade him for another receiver that means you got two and a half you know receivers that is just like they don’t have any chemistry you’re starting from scratch it’s a new offense we don’t have no time to be sitting back waiting for that chemistry to develop over this the length of the Season we need a guy like like you know we we need we need a Cooper to be ready to go when the season starts so we can hit this track running and you know for me I I just think it’s one of the things and I on record I think they will get it done I think um you know they’re just trying to figure out and plus you know Amar Cooper is a veteran he he doesn’t want to rush back in the training camp you know a couple things from Amar Cooper He’s going to be professional so he’s not going to say anything about it he’s goingon to let his Angel handle it he’s also going to come back and you know he’s a great tactician and Route Runner you know he’s a great locker room guy so you know I if there’s anybody that can survive outside of the framework of what they doing over in Berea and why he doesn’t need to be at OTAs or mini camps or mandatory camps it’s it’s a guy like Amari Cooper because you know what he brings to the table and you understand what skill set he has and he’s appr proven veteran I just want the Browns to go ahead and get this done so we can keep it pushing because at the end of the day I still want that chemistry with him and deshun Watson I I want all of the Reps I can get between now and when the season starts because when you look at that schedule and I’ve talked about this before Cleveland Browns have no no they ain’t got no time to be half stepping they they start right now what a team like the Cowboys and it’s imperative that you get off to a nice start it’s imperative that you get you get off to especially when it comes to winning at home you got to be able to win at home because the back of the schedule is backloaded where AFC North teams where that’s going to that’s going to dictate what where you’re going to be and how how you’re going to be seated in the playoffs so for me I want that connection to start now am I panicked about it no on a scale of one and seeing how much worry do I have about it or two but I am saying this Amar Cooper needs to be signed and there is no if ANS or buts about that we need to get that done please do so expeditiously in the words of my man ti.

Browns’ Amari Cooper speaks out amid contract holdout: ‘I’m trying to get paid this year. Cooper did not show up at offseason workouts or mandatory minicamp. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper did not show up to the offseason workouts or mandatory minicamp, and it appears to be contract related. Cooper is in the final year of the five-year, $100 million extension that he signed in 2020 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, so he’s likely is looking for an extension.

Cooper is subject to fines for missing the mandatory team activities, and if a deal is not agreed to by training camp, there is a chance he could hold out for that as well. Members of the organization have spoken about the situation, but Cooper himself has been quiet on the matter. Until now.

During an interview with Betr, a gaming company, Cooper was challenged to a foot race. While he said he would not be beat, he declined the competition for fear of getting injured and jeopardizing any future negotiations.

He noted that he could “pull a hammy or something” while running, adding, “I’m trying to get paid this year,” further proving that his absence is contract related. The 30-year-old is smart to play it safe, because wild injuries have occurred. With a potential new deal on the line, he wants all the ammunition he can get on his side.

Cooper proved his value last year, with career highs in receiving yards (1,250) and yards per catch (17.4), which were also team highs. He put up these numbers while playing with multiple quarterbacks, which can cause some pass-catchers to struggle. He also lead the Browns in targets (128), doing it in 15 games.

With Deshaun Watson coming back in a major “prove-it” year, a trusted veteran receiver would be big for the team moving forward as they look to finally capitalize on the massive deal they gave their quarterback. Watson has expressed the value he feels Cooper brings to the team and believes the wideout is the best of the best. “He’s the best in the game, and I believe that,” Watson said, via Pro Football Talk. “He shows it each and every year. He showed it the last two years with different quarterbacks. So, I think you got to put him up there, if not the best.”

Browns general manager Andrew Berry also had high praise for Cooper, who he called “a big part of our culture.” He said the receiver is “high-level,” “Pro Bowl-caliber,” “a great teammate” and “a great professional.”

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said there has “been a dialogue” between Cooper and the team, but would not go into detail on the matter, saying it is between those involved. According to Spotrac, Cooper is valued at $88.289 million over four years, with an average annual salary of $22 million.
