  1. $3.5M cap hit for this year and next. Immediately becomes our best PK forward.

  2. They really should have announced that part first. I think we all got Hextall PTSD when we saw an old, expensive, former Flyer. The difference being Hextall would have given up a 2nd rounder to acquire him as opposed to gaining one.

  3. Seems like a $3.5 mil salary is a lot for a mostly PK guy, which we already have in Acciari and Nieto

  4. This is tidy work. free 2nd rounder for 3.5 cap hit and a player that isn’t awful.

  5. Fast someone needs to stop all the guys in the other thread who were heading for the nearest bridge.

  6. So is this the 3c move that bumps eller to 4c? Too be honest im not sold on another over 30 player but hes got to be a better option than some of the guys we had last year.

  7. Nice, like it better than Mikaeyev for the same incentive and lower cap hit.

Also posted OK playdriving numbers on bad playdriving teams in STL/PHI. Lack of production is concerning but that’s why the pick is attached. W

  8. So basically free + a 2nd rounder while Flyers retain 50% of salary? Can’t get too upset about that…

Pens apparently inquiring on Saad too, along with the Rags. Though that doesn’t really make the team much younger…

  9. I was worried at first, but I like this deal now. Although it somewhat reaffirms my belief that Dubas’ isn’t all-in on maximizing the remaining years with Sid. This is typically the type of move you see rebuilding teams make. We’re essentially buying a pick.

  10. I like it! Center depth and PK specialist and a reasonable cost for just the next two seasons, and we got a 2nd rounder. Hayes has shown even a season ago that he can produce points, so here’s hoping we get more of that.

  11. Can some please explain wtf ā€˜future considerationsā€™ means in terms of a trade. Also can we dump Hayes and his salary?

  12. Be interested to see what they do with that 2nd round pick. Whether that’s used to acquire another player in the offseason or deadline or used as cap dump of their own. I suppose they could just stick and pick too – just not used to that yet with this organization.

  13. Underwhelming player but that pick could turn into a Jake Guentzel or better. You never know. I’m glad that Dubas understands his duty is to build back up our draft capital. We still have great players that will be exciting to watch in the regular season.

The only thing that irks me about this is that this creates another logjam in the bottom 6 similar to what we had with Jeff Carter. Granted, Hayes is better than Carter was in his twilight years, I’d still rather have the luxury of being able to call up guys that are performing well in Wilkes. 2nd round picks don’t grow on trees, though.

  14. Hayes is easily one of our best bottom 6 players which says more about those lines than him but still a net positive, plus heā€™s big and can PK and isnā€™t afraid to be physical, good pickup imho
