GRADING EVERY TEAM’S 2024 NHL DRAFT!

GRADING EVERY TEAM’S 2024 NHL DRAFT!

this 2024 NHL draft was absolutely insane and today we’re going to be breaking down every single NHL team’s performance grading them from F all the way to A+ and we’re not just talking about draft picks there were a ton of Trades as well in this draft that we need to talk about here today what is your favorite NHL team before this year’s draft we’ll make sure you watch till the end as we go through every team’s trades draft picks and more with my thoughts in every selection and if that subscribe Buton if you’re new for more hockey content and draft content too right with this draft being over we’re headed to the 2025 draft and one is a doozy and you won’t want to miss the coverage there now how today’s video is going to work is that we’re going to go through the teams I thought did the worst at this draft and lead on to the teams I did the best so we’re going to start with the low grades and work up to the high ones and coming in at the last place spot 32 out of 32 in this draft class just like good old times I think the auto Senators had the worst draft this year I didn’t want to do this I wanted to believe that aut would have a different structure a different system a different way of thinking with new management coming in a whole new ownership but that just was not the case the way I usually look at it especially coming out of drafts is what talent did teams leave off the board and I think the sends left a lot off the board personally Carter yakim Chuck is somebody who I think will be a good NHL D but he even though he has brings great offensive confidence and some good physical traits he’s somebody that does not skate very well isn’t very quick won’t be a transition guy because of it and I also think defensively has some big lapses in judgment in execution and that’s really going to hold him back a lot too Gabriel Elias in at 39th overall is insane he has some good tools and he’s obviously huge but this guy is one of the worst decision makers I’ve ever seen at his age and is about as raw as it comes obviously patience will be needed there I do like Javon Moore and Blake mountgomery as bigger forward picks but it’s not enough to salvage the lack of potential in this s’s draft class you could get a couple nhlers at most but I feel like it might be repeat at the 2021 draft at worst now the Ottawa Sanders is getting the worst rank in this entire class of a d but next up at the second worst spot I didn’t really like the Ontario drafts this year I got the Toronto Maple Leaves I would give this grade a slightly Higher One than the S probably a d Plus for Toronto but I feel like they’re just like Ottawa not really shooting for the stars in this draft Ben Danford at 31st overall is a low bar I’ll say that I mean he has some good traits I think his IQ especially around on the net he knows where to be knows how to get pucks out but he’s not a tremendous skater by any means and he’s some with that smaller size would have to be a defensive defenseman and I just don’t think he really has the to be able to execute that or be a highle guy at that so maybe he’s a bottom pair D but I think that’s the best you get Miroslav hinka is probably probably in my opinion the only other guy that has maybe NHL potential he’s somebody I could see maybe as a forline center really strong defensive habits but that’s pretty much it in this Le’s class and considering how many times they’ve traded down and they just kind of went for low-end swings it just wasn’t really all that inspired to me now the drafts do get quite a bit better from here and next up at number 30 I have the Boston Bruins like most viers of the Bruins I think they’re kind of hampered by the fact they didn’t draft too much in this year’s class but of course Dean lonor was the big one at 25th overall he’s someone I’m lower on compared to this ranking but he’s someone that you can’t deny the potential in the skill set and the size he does have a perfect Boston Bruins pick the only other one that I think has an HL potential might be Elliot growald he’s a very physical defenseman going to qu a Pak and that’s a pretty good system to go if you’re a physical dman but even then I think it’s a little bit of a reach Dean Leto is really the only one that provides much potential but at 25 and you can see where they’re coming from and I’m going to give the class of straight C besides Loro there really isn’t too much there next up we go on to my favorite team and of course it is the Dallas Stars I think the stars are honestly the perfect example of even if you’re down in this bottom five range I still don’t think you had a bad draft it’s kind of a reason why I didn’t do a winners or losers for this year because there really wasn’t too many losers in my opinion even for the stars in this slot I think they did okay but I think they had the least amount of draft picks in this draft I think with three total but they did okay with the picks they had I mean they went finish in the first couple picks you got a me Heming at th overall which I think is fine good power forward game great shot to him and still evolving player that could maybe become a solid third line guy you got Neil peka muhen in the fifth round which honestly I think is pretty good value 6’4 flies like the wind skating is really the name of the game there and we’ll see how much he’s able to carry that over in the future but a good bet in the fifth but besides that I think you are just having an okay draft just like Boston I’m going to give this a straight C but now we go on to a team that had a lot more to work with and was a lot more disappointing to me looking back on and that is the Philadelphia Flyers just like the stars I’m going to give the Flyers a straight C there were players I like that they drafted but in slots that were too high for me jet luchenko a 13th overall I do love he’s in my my top 20 but the players they ended up letting go like a constant helenius perhaps I think is something that might bite them in the butts I like luchenko I like this smarts the passing ability is extremely underrated but I think they’re getting more of a middle six piece in that Center core rather than a top end one then you got Jack Berglund who I think is also along the same alley he was a 5 first overall pick I like the 2A ability and the physical traits there but he really doesn’t have a great skating floor and I think that will end ultimately hold him back from being much more than a bottom sixer Spencer Gill is interesting as well as a second rounder too reminds me a lot of Maverick Laro where he just brings some great physical traits a good skating ability and that could take him a long way but besides that I think for Philly you’re mostly betting on Lower upside High floors which is kind of the opposite of what they did in last year’s draft it’s a little bit disappointing but I could see a couple nhlers out of it still though nothing that’s going to absolutely blow you away but now we keep going and next up we going to the Tamp Bay Ling who end up getting a C+ grade of course this whole draft class was more than just the picks it was also the Mel sergachev trade which opens up some massive cap spased for them and the Tano Jano deal too so if Tampa is able to Reign Stam Co overextend Victor hman get maybe another player on top like a Jay gensel this draft looks a whole lot more different but draft picks wise I think it was just okay Yan goic was their earliest pick in the fourth round extremely physical defenseman in the qmj h l I think the big weakness though will be agility and foot speed and that is something that I think got him beat quite a bit this year but you also have Hagen burough who I like the skill level the aggression he has offensively and Ken Petri is a solid defensive two-way Center I think could fit into a bottom six someday I think the draft piics are okay considering where tampo was drafting but nothing again overly special now going on to a team that I think actually did very well considering the lack of real resources is the Vancouver Canucks who also come in with a C+ gr now I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Melvin fernstrom pick in 93rd overall he’s somebody that can get in good spots and has a good awareness of where he needs to pinch offensively but I do feel like with the lack of skating speed with the lack of quickness physically that’s somebody that could maybe get caught up in the junior leagues be a great Junior League scorer but not much of a pro player we have to wait on see on him Riley Patterson is a pretty good win at with the Barry Colts 125th overall that’s a pretty underrated pick had a great year in the OHL in his rookie season and just continuing to grow anre Romani is also a good bet in the sixth round he is an over rager and I do have some issues with the physical play and the skating and the quickness that he has for an offensive player but that’s somebody that with how he scored in North Bay this last year in the sixth round you take that but I don’t think again there was any picks that were unbelievable it would probably be a higher grade though if they were able to have some picks in the first and second rounde because I do think their first three picks were pretty solid next up we go on to the last team in the C+ range and next up I have the New Jersey Devils this might be a little bit weighed down by the trades they made and the kind of disappointing Returns on both Marino and the schme and Holtz deals but I do think they’re draft picks were pretty solid here first you get Anton saliva at 10th overall which even though I’m slightly lower on him around 12th my rankings at 10 that’s just good value and I honestly think the devils are one of the better positions for Salia because he can focus on the defensive and physical traits that he has which to me are the strongest I don’t think you’re going to be getting much more than the 30 point producer but also for the Devils they have their Puck moving D in salai if he can bring what the Devils don’t have and at 10th overall that’s a great pick for them Mel igov also one of the better goalie prospects in this draft of 49th overall he’s that at Omaha has struggled around the lack of real team play there but that’s someone that has some real good talent going to be you soon Herman trap also in the third round I like quite a bit he’s a big boy but he’s got a lot of intensity he’s a little bit of a dog there there are times where you can kind of come in and out of the play and be a little bit invisible but man does that guy have talent so I think the Devils did pretty well here nothing overwhelmingly good and I don’t think their picks pass draft were all that inspiring but still pretty solid for what they did now into the B minus territory we go on to the New York Rangers just ahead of the Devils here now the Rangers didn’t have a lot of picks to work with but I thought they did pretty well with them EJ Emory at 30 like s at 10 is just good value an athletic Beast defensive Acumen the skating is at a top tier level I’m honestly shocked he fell to 30 and the Rangers will benefit from that R Bard also will be a fun Buzzy be on that bottom six someday he just provides so much energy and so much quickness and in the Q jhl I thought it had a pretty great season I don’t think he’s going to be much more than just a energy guy but I think for the Rangers at this range in the fourth you can take that that Nathan asol also 6’7 beast in the Flint Firebird system that’s your Matt rempe right there too next up we go on to another Metro team that had a solid draft this time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and for the pens I mean there was a lot of picks that were solid nothing overwhelming but just amounted to a good draft Harrison brunii at 44th isn’t where I would take him but he’s a smooth skating D who has some offense to bring I I just feel like he might be more in a defensive role and I’m not sure if he has the the ability to do that but we’ll have to wait and see on him Tanner how at 46 overall is just a solid pick he is such a good energy player Relentless with his physicality I don’t know how much offensive upside there is but I honestly think I was a great bet bet to make in the 40s you also get Max Swanson in the 200s and I have my questions about his physicality especially for his size of 5’7 but how he dominated the USHL this year in the regular season in the playoffs going to Noak in the seventh round I mean that’s just an easy pick to make continuing inner B minus range we go on to maybe one the rawest dress I have ever seen in my life in the St Louis Blues there is a ton of big potential with a lot of their draft choices Adam Ur at 16th overall isn’t where I would have picked him but he can skate like the wind and even though he was injured a lot throughout the season he has some incredible physical traits and he’ll be a project but could turn into a solid middle pair D colen Ralph is another player that’s kind of hard to get a read on strong defensive defenseman but he’s someone was playing in high school this last year and who knows what could happen with him Lucas Fischer one of the youngest players in this draft playing for Saria this last year he’s someone that really growed over the second half could be someone that has a lot of Mobility a lot of physical presence there Andre Kosh as well is an interesting one playing over in Finland he’s produced pretty decently but had a little bit of different disappointing year sto gets picked up in the third Adam yeko a 95th overall is just incredible I love yekko in this spot he’s somebody that was pretty solid for Edmonton this last year but great tools with with the skating with the shooting ability he just has so much to give at his size but this is what I’m talking about man I mean none of these players will be in the NHL for at least three seasons but all these guys I could see turning into something if their potentials hit very risky draft for St Louis but honestly I liked it now pretty much going to the exact opposite draft plan we have the LA Kings another team that didn’t have a lot of draft picks in this class but to me I think the top end ones they did a pretty good job with even though they are safer picks I love Liam green tree at 26 overall he doesn’t have great skating acceleration but man can this guy protect the puck he could be a great power forward if you give him some time and patience to adapt to the Pro game could be an excellent top six complimentary piece you also get Carter who’s one of the better goalies in this draft and I would say probably the safest at 6’1 the size he has Isn’t overwhelming but he’s compact he’s smart he’s quick with his feet and even though I don’t think there’s one trait that’s excellent with him he’s just a very balanced goenda in their pric pool on top of Eric Portillo you can make the case that this should be lower but I love the green tree pick I like the Carter George pick and those two really elevated it for me now just like the LA Kings who go into another team they didn’t have a lot to work with but really did very well with their picks I have the win to pick Jets Alon Frey at 37th overall is just fantastic like there’s no ifs and butts about it the offensive potential the transition ability the skating that he has is just all highend the quickness there in his decision making too is brilliant he’s somebody I think has a lot of potential even if there are some drawbacks physically right now he will I still think adapt to his size and get a little bit more stronger Kevin heat in the fourth round is just so much fun he had I F A very good season with Niagara this year a very underrated one too he’s someone that kind of is like that mer van a where he has good individual skill but can also put in some intensity when he needs to still pretty raw and still developing but I do like that bet in the fourth those are the only two guys I think could touch the NHL but alfons freay really Rises it for me now we go to a team that was all over the place but we get into the B tier here next up we go on to the Nashville Predators the preds had a very solid draft it was started by getting eigor Sher in at 22nd overall which is about maybe 10 spots earlier than I would have taken him but man can this guy skate he can play fast and I think there are times might need to slow the game down a little bit because he is always ahead of the play so often but he’s somebody that has great individual skill and is pretty raw for his age but again he’s an August birth dat so being raw at that age isn’t much of a problem you also got Teddy sta at 55 which is a brilliant pick one of the steals of this draft with the intensity he brings the four cheing ability I don’t think there’s going to be unreal offensive play where he’s an 80 plus Point guy but that is a an amazing complimentary piece to add to your team vgo gusterson as a third rounder good stay-at-home D pretty solid really smart with his Edge work and the way he attacks players off the rush I don’t think there’s much offense there but I think you know what you’re getting gust and he could be a solid bottom pair of D you could Mel Marquez in the third round and man is this one of the most individual non- teammate players I’ve ever seen but he has some great talent some good confidence I just think you’re going to need to wait a long time for him to really play that Pro game if he ever does and it’s a big swing in the third round but I love to see it now we go to the Washington Capitals I think one of the few teams in here that truly didn’t have one bad draft pick there might have been a couple players where I wouldn’t have drafted over them where they went but still all of these guys are players I’ve watched and players I’ve liked before Terk pisac isn’t somebody I would have drafted 17 overall I have concerns with the way he plays he’s very engaged like Zach Heyman but he’s very lanky and not the biggest player in the world so we’ll see how that works out but I do like the smartsy has especially around the net and finding those little areas to create offense Cole Hudson at 43rd overall is just a great range for him the potential that he has just like Lane is going to be really interesting in the Caps pool Leon Mugi fairy RW D but he’s somebody that has progressed really well over the last year as a Swiss defenseman Elia protus of course brother of Alexi protus that was a given big physical trades in the USHL and Eric Mata who’s pretty similar in the qm JL being a very physically imposing forward you got Nicholas Kemp who is one of the more underrated goalies in this class for me the big NDP guy this year had a great second half he’s somebody that I think will develop very well over in Notre Dame you got in the last couple of picks though Peter sakur Miroslav chatan I mean just picks I I like I mean all these guys I’ve seen before I’ve enjoyed and for the caps even in the seventh round you could give value here very solid allaround draft and honestly considering the Caps pool a draft they really needed another team that had just an allaround incredible draft and that is the Colorado Avalanche we of course saw them trade away and trade back in the draft with their pick and I think it worked out pretty well for them they got elen AB bakov at 38 which who wasn’t in my top 10 rankings but if you want older players who are already established nabaka at 21 has been one of the better KHL [Music] goendale project there I love Luca cloer in the fifth round that is a great pick I loved him throughout this year very young player but in Chicago being thrown to the Wolves he was already a pretty good starter immediately Ivan yudin as well in the fifth round Great Value there too really solid Russian goalie Who’s had to deal with some bad bad teams over the last couple years you got Tory pitner who’s just an under the Raider in a good way defense defenseman going to University of Denver and also Christian Humphries in the seventh round I don’t know why he dropped this far there is an incredible skill there but he’s pretty smart with his positioning a great complimentary guy and the seventh round man I mean you got players all over the board that could make an impact now I didn’t actually think that I would be saying these words but the emont Oilers had a fantastic draft first it started with trading into the first round and I think a lot of people will kind of question Sam O’Reilly I don’t think they should at 32nd overall that is a fantastic pick to make this guy kind of like eastn Cowen last year had a limited role in London because of how stacked they truly were but in his place he still did very well 56 points in 68 games this guy is so fast so relentless on the four check and is going to make life absolute hell for the other team and I love it I love the way he plays and I think Emon is going to love it too Emil Vinnie in the second round 64th overall he to me is the goalie with the most potential in this draft just has so much to give with his quickness with the way he puts himself out there it’s so good it’s so good and then you got Bower Barry in the seventh round which honestly again just very good value he’s somebody that has just good physical traits and especially with how he played in muskin in this last year he’s somebody that I think could develop into maybe a bottom pair D someday you consider all those factors and for Edmonton I think they did very well here now as you can tell there’s a lot of good bees in this draft and I think for the last beat on this list I have the Detroit Red Wings Detroit just continues to draft how Detroit does it and Michael FR new guard’s case at 15th overall I think it’s a great pick short is it the top potential absolutely not but this guy is such a good four Checker already so NH already with the shooting ability with the intensity with the positioning he puts himself out there offensively he’s somebody that’s going to be a fan favorite pretty much immediately and I I think will’ll be very exciting in Detroit’s middle six Max plot at 47th overall is a little bit early than I would usually take him but still he’s somebody kind of up that Brody Zer alley where he’s just very smart very gifted especially individually he’s somebody that on the rush could be a pretty good player there too and had a great world juniors Andre Becker in the third round he’s a pretty big over rager but had a fantastic year with Prince George he was a big driver on that team and offensively had a massive season there I also love John Whipple in the fifth round fairy under the raadar player with the in the ncdp this last year solid defensively really transitioned well in that area and I think in the fifth round you’re just getting good value at that spot especially going to University of Minnesota he could be a guy that really turns out well now we’re moving on to the B+ territory here and we go on to the Columbus Blue Jackets who had themselves another great draft I would say they’re another team that I don’t think had really any bad draft picks k lstr at Fourth overall is just easy money with the physical traits the shooting ability the confidence the skating there’s a lot to like there even if he might be reserved to more of a shooting role H Charlie ellic at 36 overall kind of like salive I was really surprised to kind of see around the range I had him in my rankings I had elic 42nd he comes in a 36th overall which I think is very fair I mean he’s he’s a strangling D who still I think needs to adapt to his frame a little bit better but has the tools to be a strong defensive defenseman you got Evan Gardner at 60 overall who’s one of my favorite goalies of this draft in terms of just performance he was one of the best if not the best in this draft class and 927 sa C Saskatoon this last year was strangling and even though I think Saskatoon definitely pumped up his tires a little bit I still thought he did very well for himself Luca melli at 86 is also very good I thought he would have gone a lot higher than this probably in the range in the 40s like Harrison brunii would but he’s just a very safe solid and sound defenseman who doesn’t make many mistakes doesn’t push play too much but I think could’ be a very solid guy and you got Tanner henricks in the fourth round which I think it’s also a pretty great pick he’s some that’s very RW for his age but he was playing in the in the U6 League this last last season and then transition on the USHL this this last year he’s still very young but I think the physical traits he has the ability to deceive the offense he could bring there’s a lot with henrix that I think might be a little bit underrated here now this really isn’t fair that they had such a good draft after winning this Stanley Cup but the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers had a very good one first you had lenus Erikson who to me at 58th overall is brilliant value I was shocked that he went outside the top 50 very good smart mature centerman who I think will just round out to be a great third line Center at the next level MAF shuran is incredible in the third round too 6’4 218 pound D he’s very simple and that might be something that limits him he’s predictable but the physical traits he has and the skating ability he chooses where to attack well he’s just very smart but we’ll see how much more than that he ends up being and then Simon Z in the fourth round too kind of like Erikson Fair mature very smart defensive Center there’s a reason why he played over 55 games in the shl this last year in the regular season in the playoffs he’s just a really mature player already and kind of like Erikson could turn out to be a middle bottom six centerman but I think the value all around the potential you could be getting you’re just getting potential NHL players and if you’re getting anybody after you win the Stanley Cup that could play for you in the draft that that’s a win I think the Panthers could get three here now we go on to the last B+ of the list and this is where the range gets extremely tight for me that a team like Anaheim who I thought had a brilliant draft is only a B+ but there were some things I had some reservations about first I mean Beck at senica at three is bold absolutely no doubt I love the individual Talent especially in transition he can de anybody’s jock drops off of and the physical talent that he does have is there the growth is there I have some issues with potentially the play driving and creating himself but he’s a player that does have some extreme potential and I can see where they’re coming from even if I would have gotten lrom or demad way over Sena but after that I think it was just pure value San soberg they trade to get him at 23rd physical violent defense defens with some great skaing ability I love him at 23 Lucas Pon I was surprised to see as a pat verb pick he’s someone that is incredibly individual think the Swedish Miguel Marquez he’s something that I have some issues with but he has some unreal Talent the u8 showed that quite well Maxine say at 66 overall just good value too kind of like Tanner how he just brings some great traits fundamentals physically and the way he’s able to for check the physical traits he has on top of some underlying skill there m I think could be a great bottom sixer and then teren Smith is a crown jewel at 79th overall you guys know I love him I had him early in my second round rankings this is somebody that just has unbelievable deaking ability unbelievable offensive talents I love what they bring and of course Everett Silver Tip just like ol zel pass team they got a little bit of a connection there and I love to see that now just like with the Edmonson Oilers I never thought I would actually be saying this but with Lou Laro at the helm I loved A New York Islanders draft an A minus first you get Cole eisan at 20th overall and I don’t care how much you hate eisan 20th overall is just insane to me with the shooting abilties some of the physical prowers there he’s something that I think improved quite a bit in the second half too just incredible incredible getting at 20 Jesse pulen as well 54th overall he’s someone that I thought was I was lower on but at 54 I think he could be a really interesting bet he is an over rager but had a brilliant season this last year in the lia really showing a lot more offensive potential I think this sking isn’t amazing to be an offensive defenseman that’s maybe be something that held teams back but I do think the vision he has the creativity is unbelievable Camille benari in the second round two really Pro Player don’t be surprised that this guy plays 500 plus NHL games it’s a bottom six center just so strong so good with the fundamentals he always has his heads up heads up making the right plays and he’s someone that’s just going to push pacing the right way very Lou Lamar player and then you get Marcus gof in the fifth round one of the biggest goalies of this class and he could be very imposing he could be look very hard to beat he’s somebody that had a solid season over in the junior 20 still developing well over there is definitely a project but could be a very fun one Now quickly touching on Chicago I think they’re a team I think did pretty well not perfect but I still think had a pretty great draft arum leav of course was the big second over pick for them they passed on some Talent like Ian demidov which I really would have liked to see them go after but in lov’s case he’s somebody that does bring potential they don’t have a lot of right d in the system and he could be really fitting a good need there Sasha boy there another player I wouldn’t have drafted so high but 18th overall he’s a really smart guy going to Noak next year and could really start developing there over the NCAA Merck vaner at 27 I love he’s just so good up the rush he’s so good in one-on-one situations I mentioned it before kind of like a Becket senica like he’s some that kind of brings that without the real talent that senica does have I also like John mustard in the third round too he is super individual always trying to create offense and there are times where the defensive play and the physical play might not be there but he’s somebody that if you can really develop that that overall game over the next few years the offense is already there and will be something special AJ spelly is just a really good allaround player good penalty killer good uh speed and with the habits he has with his size two that’s a lot of good potential to wrap around I also like one of the last uh picks they made in the third round Jack PRM one of my favorites out of the bchl this last year he’s someone going to beu this next season PM is very raw but he’s somebody that’s pry smart with the way he attacks offensively and getting that type of player in the third round really all the guys they did in the first second and third pretty good value for Chicago another team in the a minus tier in the actual draft rankings going to be the Vegas go kns now this isn’t just about draft because this also about the trades I think that Holtz and Akira shme deal is really interesting for them the Logan Thompson won a little bit of dis pointing return considering his pretty low cap pit but but I can see where they’re coming from with that you’ll of course have trer ronell as their main pick I also like pav moich in the third round one of the better goalies in this draft he is an over rager but at 6’5 he had a great season the KHL last year with a 942 sa percentage he’s somebody that over the last couple of years has quickly developed very well I really like how Vegas is developing their goenda lindbom in the seventh round last year and moich in the third this year they have a pretty good goalie system coming up here but now we get into the a territory and the sun has come up and the Buffalo Sabers have another good draft I mean it’s pretty much automatic at this point you start out with constant helenius at 14th overall which honestly to me is exactly the type of player Buffalo needs more of incredibly smart defensively sound could play center or Wing I think more likely Wing in Buffalo system but I love that pick at 14 Adam cber just a super imposing physical day going to Minnesota du but 6’6 he had a great USA shell campaign this last year I also like Brody Zer a lot at 71st overall there’s not a ton of offensive potential there but this guy plays so hard so ruggan and is always so smart with the way he plays another guy just like helenius is going to be a great bottom six piece I feel like of course Wisconsin commit Luke Osborne my boy very young in this draft class being a September birthday but he’s somebody I thought was really underrated for Youngtown this last year and he’s somebody I think has a lot more offensive potential and he shown I like him quite a bit and especially it’s at 108 I mean that’s just good value there too I also like Ryan ryers and leers a lot as well in the seventh round I was shocked to see him draft this uh go this far in the draft he’s someone that I think is especially among North American goalies one of the smartest one of the best in terms of overall talents and the seventh round man I mean kind of like Devon Levi somebody that could be a very big steal when it’s all sent and done another team that I think did quite well in this draft is the Seattle Kraken just like Buffalo though they always seem to have some good drafts this time around though was pretty surprising with their top end pick going for Berkeley kind of eight I love the value I love the offensive potential there I was really expecting to go for a defenseman though and it was kind of surprising to see them not do that but I’m a big proponent of Best Player available and Berkeley Kon was definitely among that met in solid pick at 40 really a physical development over in the WHL I love o Josephson at 105 overall one of my favorite energy guys of this draft even and I think there was untapped potential that he was starting to bring in that second half in the WHL offensively and also with some of their late round swings Clark Caswell as well in the WHL another guy that has some just a good brain on him he’s smart he’s quick and he’s able to just push Pace in the right direction he was had a really underrated season with Swift Current this last year 77 points in 68 games another player I was surprises he dropped as far as he did and also yakob Vier in the seventh round I mean this is somebody that with Mrs Saga had a great season coming over as a first-time Oher Czech Bourne he’s somebody that in the seventh round as well I mean I don’t think he’ll be anything too special if he makes it but if you get a bottom perody in the seventh you’re taking that and that’s really just the name of the game for Seattle value all across the board and I think they did another good job of that in this draft now there was a couple of teams like Ottawa that kind of drafted the same way they had before but one team that really surprised me this year was actually the Calgary Flames they usually go for lower upside higher floor guys but in this class it was basically the opposite of that you can just go down the list s perek MAV greeden Andrew Bosa Krill zarubin Luke Misa really with the exception of Henry Muse who I think will be an NHL but more of just a smart safer one really a lot of these draft picks are high intensity High offensive guys and to me I absolutely love that that’s something that Calgary needed more in their pool and they got that this year now we’re getting to the range where all these teams just made smart and solid picks across the board and another team that always loves to do that is the Carolina Hurricanes they come in with an a grade and it’s easy to see why Dominic badinka at 34th overall someone I wanted for the stars with their pick at 29 but honestly he’s exactly the type of D they could use more of in that pool he’s big he’s solid and he has a great skater for his size too and a flourishing offensive game we started to see more of over in Sweden in the second half Nikita artamonov the perfect Kane’s pick at 50th overall smaller Russian but man could he be an intense forward I also like n fren a lot 69th overall he’s someone that had a lot of offensive potential throughout the year he’s still pretty lanky and that might be the biggest thing that holds him back but I loved him at the junior 208 level this year Justin porier I’m not the biggest fan of him because of his size and really the lack of defensive ability and skating he has because of that but at 5 fo8 man this guy is a is just insane with his goal scoring ability 51 goals in 68 Q jhl games this last year I mean in the fifth round you might as well make a pick like that you also got Fedor aov as well in the sixth round somebody that had a great MHL campaign this last year and overall defensively forward wi they just drafted a good mix of everybody and styles that could fit into the NHL someday now getting us started inside the top four teams I think did the best job at this year’s draft I number four we have the Montreal Canadians of course headlined by Ivon demad I would say this draft for Montreal was pretty front-loaded with their first three picks which I thought were all outstanding of course demov at fifth overall is exactly the pick they needed after going for Ryan Bacher last year he is instantly their most talented Prospect and even though you have players like Coffield who I love quite a bit demidov is just right up there and will be able to create the pace that Montreal truly needs Michael ha is somebody that of course we saw earlier in the draft day Montreal trading up for at 21st overall they take him and I like ha quite a bit a lot of offensive potential he’s somebody that’s very quick very smart in the neutral zone and he’s somebody that’s able to turn the puck over create some chaos and I don’t think he’s the greatest skater in the world and that’s something I think with the lack of speed that could hold back his true offense but I think as a complimentary piece and even as a Winger perhaps he’s somebody I think could do very well and you got AAS quu of course ku’s son he’s somebody that I think has just been such a development over the past year going from an unknown to in the second half somebody had a great season in the Liga somebody that just was able to use or in the in Finland he was able to use his shot very well able to get more opportunities he’s someone that in the third round might be a little bit rich but I like the potential there even if he is quite raw I wouldn’t say outside of these three though that there’s much potential at least in being NHL players but I love the first three picks from Montreal and they really propell it up to that spot coming in inside the top three though was the first ever draft for Utah Hockey Club and especially for them it wasn’t just about the draft piics even though they were pretty good it was also about the trades I mean getting John Marino for a couple of seconds getting Mel sergachev two absolutely massive deals for them to improve that defense which was really the biggest thing they needed improvements on I think if this draft showed us anything is that the same scouting staff from Arizona is going to continue to do what they do in Utah drafting bigger players with physical edges and that’s exactly what they did in this draft I think the first three picks were definitely the best getting TJ ginet six over overall it wouldn’t have been my pick I think I would have gone for a defenseman but still I think now that we know that they’ve gone for cirach Chev and Marino we know why they went for forwards in the end again though was going to be so much fun there and instantly a fan favorite same thing with colle bodan who we saw Utah rise up for grab 24th overall I love his for checking I love the relentlessness on the boards the way that he keeps pucks going puts it into the slot for his teammates there’s just a lot to like there in terms of simple effective hockey I also like will scan a lot as well in the second round 65th overall just an imposing D I think he a little bit less effective in the offensive game than a Adam Cleber perhaps but he’s someone that I think is just very simple very refined already and going to BC will be a fair good defensive D there now we have two teams left and two of these teams are a pluses for me and coming in just at number two right behind number one is the San Jose Sharks you of course have the franchise Center that they’re able to get at first overall in mlin celebr we talked to him about to death on this channel about just how good of a player he could be how good of a player he will be for San Jose but it’s what they did outside of the consensus for me that I thought was really special they just like Montreal had a draft day deal where they trade up in the in the draft getting that 11th overall pick from Buffalo and it turned out to be a really good one for them getting Sam Dickinson at 11 who I think with the two-way game the skating ability the first pass up the rush he’s somebody I can be really special and again you can put in any direction if you want to be a defensive defenseman you could if you want to be in the offensive Direction you could build him that way too I think for San Jose you’re going to get a special project there I also like eigor chesha as the first pick in the second round I’m shock that he draft he he actually dropped it the second considering his power forward game how good he is as a physical player already and how well he was able to develop in the KL already he’s somebody that played strong minutes there even if it wasn’t what he wanted yet he’s that’s going to be developing there very well and I think could just become this solid middle six piece I also like Carson wet in the third round he’s an athletic Beast kind of like EJ Emory where he just his physical prowess is maybe the best thing about him he’s somebody that especially his frame and the way he puts himself out there is just Relentless I don’t think there’s unbelievable offensive there or anything he’s not going to be putting up 50 plus points I think you’re getting a strong bottom sixer here and then Colton Roberts who I’m usually not the biggest fan of the guys like this who aren’t the greatest skaters who are more physical guys but at 131st overall I could absolutely see Roberts becoming a Bottom parody who is just smart who is consistent around his own net just doesn’t have any funny business around his goenda you could get a fan favor there in the bottom pair and just all around they had a strong draft filling a lot of positions that they really needed to but of course celebrini is the big big one now we go on to number one even as a Dallas Stars fan I would love to put bias into it and not rank them number one but I just can’t there is no way in any possibility that I don’t have the Minnesota Wild number one what a draft they had first you get Z buum at 12th overall which honestly in the first round might be the biggest steal of the draft to me with the mobility with the creativity up front defensively he’s somebody that just has so many raw tools but has been able to execute them in Denver this last year being great for the US and key critical moments winning gold there and also in the nenda being brilliant for a Natty winning team in Denver he was just great wherever he wins winning more and more minutes getting better and better and in Minnesota alongside Brock Faber that pair is going to be beautiful next up you got Ryder Richie at 45th overall which is a great pick considering the tools he has the shooting ability the work ethic he has too he’s somebody that is very young for this draft class as well with an August birth date he took some steps back I would say this year but he’s somebody that I could easily see having a great WHL campaign next time and then you got kaharu 122nd overall and you guys might know that I’m not the biggest fan of him considering the shorter size at 5′ 10 and the lack of great acceleration up the ice for an offensive D but man is this guy smart and does he make some great passes in the offensive zone absolutely and I think considering a fourth round pick here considering where they got him it’s about as good as you can get I also like Sebastian canani as well in the fifth round another finish D here at 6’2 the mobility is really the name of the game here with the way he moves the quickness with his with his his edges he’s someone that I think could be a really great skater and a very solid Puck mover as well nothing that’s going to overwhelm you but like kaharu some nice Talent added to the back end that’s pretty much it I would say for Minnesota but the great picks to me were especially great and I would say in buam and kaharu they have potential to get maybe the two biggest steals of the entire draft but that’s going to be it for today’s 2024 NHL draft review if 1. Very good draft for Washington, especially considering how great the Logan Thompson trade is for them, and even though Parascak and Hutson both have a lot work to do they do have very high upside.

  2. Yakemchuk looks like an offensive stud. I trust they made the right decision. At least we know he doesnt play in a country that could hold players back.

  3. As a Blackhawks fan, I'm absolutely shook at how bad KD did this draft.. overreached on our 18th and 27th pick. Passing on Hage/Eiserman at 18 was insane.. skipping Demidov for levshunov is criminal.

  4. Grav how can you give ottawa a D? wtf lol. We needed a right handed physical defenceman with scoring upside and we got that, we needed scoring wingers and we got 3, we added a 6'7 defenceman in Eliasson who's playing at Michigan next year and he's a bit of a project but he plays more physical than silayev does and shows alot of upside, and on top of that we got the most underrated player in the draft in javon moore…. i don't understand the logic here. This is atleast a B+ draft

  5. Sooooo, let’s review your assessment of Toronto choosing Easton Cowan last year: ahh yes, here we go, “D- or maybe even a F”! So how did that turn out? CHL player of the year! OHL playoff MVP! OHL Championship and lost in final of Memorial Cup. Ohhh man, your assessment looks pretty putrid now doesn’t it, hasn’t aged well at all!

Yup you really nailed that one there Graviteh didn’t ya! So D+ for Danford, looks like the Leafs got a steal based on your “expert” assessment.

  6. I’m trusting Danny Brière as a Flyers fan. They liked Luchanko more than Helenius and even Eiserman and I think that’s okay. They tried to be aggressive and move up, but it didn’t work out. So, they’re now stocked up for next year’s deeper draft and took some nice low risk guys this year. I get why they didn’t get a high grade and that’s okay

  7. Ok, so you just re-word the player summary on eliteprospects and you expect anyone to actually believe you know anything about these prospects.

Give whatever grade you want i guess, but you dont know jack.

  8. I might be high right now but I could have sworn I heard you say the capitals drafted Petr Sykora AND Miroslav satan in 2024?? Holy shit this seasons wild

  9. Zeev Buium at 12 was definitely a shock. I’m not sure which (if any) of the Iowa dmen prospects have the best shot of making it so this was a dream outcome for the Wild.

  10. One of Danford's strengths is his skating… What are you talking about? And he's small? If 6''1' is small then idk what to say. Seems like you just don't know about any of the guys they drafted vs actually watching them play. You gave the Cowan pick an F grade last year. Way too early to be giving D and F grades on guys you clearly didn't watch

  11. I thought Sweeney did a good job with limited picks Dean Letourneau is a stud, Groenewold is a lot like Carlo, and I’m very exited about Morello being a middle 6 Swiss Army knife

  12. Solid video and I agree with your assessment of the Blues. If you're picking 16th in this draft you can either go high floor low ceiling and get a solid NHLer or take a chance and possibly end up with a star. We got two solid building blocks on defense with our first two picks and considering our prospect pool is pretty strong (Snuggerud, Dvorsky, Lindstein, Stenberg) we can afford to take a risk on a guy like Jiricek.

  13. I hope to god Ottawa fires Don Boyd and that scouting team. Absolutely brutal. I can get behind Yakem but Eliasson at 39 is just ridiculous with Basha, Stiga, Ritchie all just sitting there when we have no winger prospects.

  14. Habs had such a weird draft, A+ solely off of Demidov, Hage was really good at 21 then the rest was really meh player wise with a cool family connection.
