NJ Devils TRADE Alexander Holtz & Akira Schmid To Vegas Golden Knights for Paul Cotter!

NJ Devils TRADE Alexander Holtz & Akira Schmid To Vegas Golden Knights for Paul Cotter!

hey everybody Welcome to Hoy skate down before we get into the video I just want to say thank you to all my subscribers if you want to join a hockey team it’s free click subscribe hit the notification Bell to all thank you all so much and let’s get started so every time I leave there’s always a stupid trade like this that happens when I’m out and I can’t do a video quick but this one when I saw it just upsetted me upsetted me I love what the Devils did at the draft yesterday um I like what they did today and trading off John Marino for two second round picks I thought that was a great move by Fitzgerald and I like what he did with the draft drafting some big players in defense and goal tending and forward um so he is going into that role of adding some muscle to this team I like that for the future but to trade off two of your better picks for a third fourth line guy I don’t get it this is such a trade that is so upsetting when you see it coming coming across your feed and um you know let’s talk about it because it’s just one of those trades where the Vegas golden knights won this hands down I know if it’s Gerald’s trying to get this trying to banking on the the potential upside of Paul CER but I totally don’t get this and I guarantee you I’ll say this right now Alexander Holtz and Akira Schmid are going to take off with the Vegas golden knights so if you’re watching this and you’re Vegas golden knights fan you won this trade today I’m sorry you got two potentially good prospects while giving up basically nothing I know Paul CER was a fan favorite there but um yeah they won this trade hands down so let’s talk about it in this video so the New Jersey Devils trade Alexander Holtz and Akira Schmid for forward Paul Cotter and a third round pick in the 2025 draft so let’s talk about Paul cter a little he’s 24 years old uh listed as a center 6’2 212 lb he’s the Vegas golden Knight’s 2018 fourth round pick uh he carries a $775,000 cap hit and um looking at his stats this year he played in 76 games seven goals 18 assists for 25 points so he’s basically a third or fourth line guy that you’re trading away for two good prospects in Holtz and Schmid looking over Alexander Holz he’s 22 years old rightwing left wing 6 foot 192 lbs he’s our was our 2020 first round uh seventh overall pick uh currently making 895k which expires at the end of the 2425 season in 82 games this year he put up 16 goals 12 assists 28 points so I see the points transparency between um Paul Cotter and Holtz they both put up similar points Holtz got three more points while playing in um a lot more games so you know there’s that I don’t know if it sure was looking at that but let’s head over to Akira Schmid 24 years old 6 fo5 205 go 205 pound go tender he was our fifth round 208 uh he was our fifth round 2018 pick uh currently in RFA he’s making 850,000 he made this this year and his contract is up at at the end of this year that just passed uh he split time between uica and New Jersey for this past season and with the Devils he played in 19 games he went 59 and one 895 save percentage and a 3.15 ga so this trade you know when you when you saw it coming across your feeds I you know I’m sure a lot of devils fans were like who’s Paul cter and exactly when you’re making a trade like this when you’re giving up your two of your better name prospects for a player you don’t recognize of course you’re going to get upset now I understand the reasoning behind this you’re getting Paul cter because he’s a bigger guy he had like over 200 hits this year so you need that physicality I get that I get that he’s a big guy 6’2 212 pounds you know has somewhat good hands but Paul even Tom fitzerald said we’re banking on the upside of Paul Cotter so I don’t I don’t get this was it a a Vegas thing you’re in Vegas and you wanted to make a splash like this happen I I just don’t get it I really don’t you know looking at Alexander Holtz he he played averaged around eight minutes a night playing on our fourth line basically under a coach that we we we let we fired and got a new one and um you know why didn’t they just give him the year see what he could have done under a different coach I I just I I don’t get it give him another opportunity I I know we’ve given Holtz uh more and more opportunities but we’ve seen some players it does take a little bit longer to to get the NHL game and you saw this year he had such a vast Improvement he played 8 minutes a night and he put up 16 goals what happens if you give him 13 14 minutes a night he’s going to score 20 25 goals and you’re giving that up for a third fourth line guy I I just I can’t fathom this trade I really can’t then you head over to Akira Schmid it’s not like we could just give uh Holtz away we had to throw in Schmid for this one too um you know Schmid single-handedly won US the Rangers series a couple years back so there is that potential for him to be a better and what does Vegas have better defense watch him go there and shine now watch I understand that the Vegas golden knights were in a situation where they needed a backup Golder they just traded away Logan Thompson today and they they got a good one in Akira Schmidt I I guarantee you if you give this guy some time this this guy is going to be good for them in the future and I Fitzgerald just lost his trade today I’m sorry he lost his trade I liked everything he did today I like the Marino trade I like what he did with the draft but when it came to this I I just I can’t even think of a reason to do this video of why it’ be good for us I understand what Paul CER brings we need that element on our team but you’re giving up Holtz and a a a goenda and try to get barers chef from them the Vegas golden knights are up against the cap why not try to do that maybe they wanted to free up some money to sign Jonathan March or so I don’t know but I just I don’t get this trade today I really I I don’t understand his trade I saw it I tried a reason behind it I looked up Paul cter because I wasn’t I’ve seen him play but I’m not too familiar with his background and you know what his stats are and all that I had to look that up but which I’m sure a lot of Vegas fans don’t know of Holtz or or Schmid too much so they had to do their due diligence with that too but you know us knowing Holtz and US knowing Schmidt and what they’re capable of if they’re giving more of an opportunity you know you give them more time what happens if their numbers got better and I don’t know I just don’t get this I have a feeling that both of these two players are going to go go to Vegas they’re going to have a hell of a career I just I have the feeling or they could be total bus I don’t know but you know with Holtz Holtz had a soft spot with us with us fans you know we were rooting for him to to get more opportunity to play you know to just to to show what he can do given more minutes you know eight minutes a night and you’re putting up 16 goals I just I don’t get it and Schmid too Schmid I could understand his numbers were low this year you know his save percentage and his GAA and his safe percentage weren’t as good as it was uh since the that whole uh playoff run we had against the Rangers but man since then he’s had a falloff but what happens if he has another opportunity somewhere else and he plays better and that’s what happens when you want with some of these trades you want your players to go off and get a better opportunity with the change of scenery maybe they could revamp their career and I don’t know what this I don’t know this is one of those trades where you try to justify why your GM would do that and you know I’ve stuck it up for Tom fr Gerald in every single one of my videos but I in the comments I am not going to in this one because this trade I am not a fan of he lost this trade and you know I I just don’t know unless he has some magic up his hat when when free agency starts on Monday of who he’s going to sign up we don’t know it yet I don’t know this this was just a bad ending to today which with with this whole with with our roster you know to trade out Holtz and Schmid for a a third fourth line guy I just I don’t get it I I was hoping we would try to get barbashev from the Vegas golden nights I was going to do videos on that too glad I didn’t at this point but comment below I don’t even know what else to say but comment below thank you all for watching I really appreciate your time smash that like button and join the hockey skate down it’s free and uh have a great rest of the night and have a great day tomorrow take it easy [Music]

NJ Devils TRADE Alexander Holtz & Akira Schmid To Vegas Golden Knights for Paul Cotter & a draft pick in 2025. In this video I discuss my reaction to hearing the news of this horrendous trade for the NJ Devils. The Devils gave up 2 of the better prospects for a 3rd/4th line player.
The Vegas Golden Knights fleeced Tom Fitzgerald and the NJ Devils with this trade

  1. Stop it Holtz was a bottom six forward at best and was suppose to be more then he is now and has not turned into that player everyone thought and he got traded for another bottom six
Schmid is now lost behind a back log of goalies and yes he had a flash in the pan with the ranger series being the thing but he is not the next great goalie.
Holtz had his chance to be a top six and didn’t prove it.
It was a third liner for third liner with a career back up thrown in.
After Monday you will forget about these guys.
    Holtz was a bust

  2. This is a fireable offense… this is disgusting.. i f’n loved these guys, and Cotter??? Wtf this is crap, idgaf what he is thinking, Holtz had 16 goals on limited time.. bs im pissed.. 😡 so annoyed

  3. Holtz was mishandled from day 1. He was never put in a position to succeed for a long enough period of time. Shuffling him around in limited minutes with assorted 3rd and 4th liners. He is a 20+ goal guy at minimum. You don't just throw that away for a 4th line center. It's a terrible trade. Not as bad as the Sharangovich trade. Still pretty bad.

  4. Schmid obviously wasnt going to play with the veteran goalies. And Holtz is not a guarantee to perform next year. They need players who will perform next year.

  5. As a knights fan i can say cotter has huge upside. He is fast and has way better puck skills than people realize. He does take bad penalties and has turnover problems but i feel he can improve on those.

  6. This one got me too. I thought if that’s all you’re getting for Holtz then keep him one more year and attempt to grow his value again and then sell him at deadline or after the season and take your loss then!!! The only thing I can think of is he must have someone or multiple players coming in during Free Agency that would push Holtz right back to the bottom 6 on the depth chart . So if Necas or Bertuzzi or some combo of Forwards aren’t Devils when free agency begins then it makes not much sense at all to me. (I wonder if they busted Holtzs balls and told him he was traded to Buffalo back with Lindy again 😂 ☠️. )

  7. I think your view on this is really balanced. Holtz wasn't gonna make the top line but he was already contributing so it seems impossible he couldn't contribute more. All we can do is just give it some time and see what happens

  8. Holtz is a bust. Teams always overvalue their players, especially first rounders. Not sure about Akira but guess the Devils decided they were going in a different direction for goaltending and given what’s happened over the last few years, are they really that wrong? One could make the argument the Devils could have gotten more. I’ll give that.

  9. This is the worst trade of the year and its not close. Why didnt they juat trade a 4th or 5th rd pick for cotter if they like him that much? Now we habe no snipers in the prospect pool. This is an all time head scatcher. This is the kind of deal that will follow fitz the rest of hi scareer and likely ruin it. Did holtz bang his daughter or something? Fitz and lindy hated him so much. Dont tell me about upside with cotter, is that a effing joke?

  10. What did Holtz contribute? He's slow, hes atrocious on the defensive end, he get run off the puck, he is constantly out of position, and he has a low hockey IQ for the NHL. Whenever something like this happens, home team fans want to romanticize the player/prospect that they are losing but never take into account the mountain of downsides that the player has, and Holtz has a metric ton. Idc how young he is. He either doesn't get it or he can't gel with the skill players that we have on roster. He has an above average shot, so what. If he's never in a position to use that shot, it's entirely worthless. He clearly doesn't fit with the vision of the team that Fitz has and he tanked his value by playing like absolute garbage. Cotter has more points in less games, hes physical, and he holds onto the puck(from all of the things I've seen from him). If Keefe can develop him into a solid role player, which I absolutely believe he can, it's a win in getting anything back at all for Holtz. Multiple teams turned down packages involving him because he doesn't have it. As for Schmid, the nostalgia of the rags series is great, but since then, his play has been absolutely manic. He can not establish any baseline of solid play and looks like Mackblack 2.0. Let the season play out and then judge the moves. This is a solid start to what this team needs to be.

  11. Knights fan here, and I'm not sure if your GM was drunk. Paul Kotter can occasionally look good, and he does hit. But he is a turnover machine, and his scoring will disappear for long stretches. Always nervous when he's on the ice. He also takes dumb penalties.

  12. We fall in love with prospects and always want to hold on to them im not saying the return wqs great but holtz is not a great skater bad in his own end bad off the puck is on the softer side and dosent drive play i dont think hes gonna blow up to b a great player but then again that would prob b the devils luck haha
