2nd round pick, Charlie Elick, meets with the media following his selection in the 2024 NHL Draft!
uh just the reaction I’m sure you maybe were here last night hoping to go last night but you don’t have to wait very long today so it’s got to be nice oh yeah that’s nice for sure but um being draft such a great organization something that’s really special and dream come true really so you know it’s an honor an honor for sure how would you describe yourself as a player as a player I feel like I’m two-way more defensive type of defenseman but um I feel I can play both sides of the puck and move it up to the boards and get it up the ice and be physical with my body and shut down other players so something that I bring and that’s how how kind of my game is yeah so you know kayen a little bit do you know him off the ice or just from playing against him in the W um I played with him quite a bit like we played at helenka together and um so yeah it was I’ve known him for quite a bit and also played against him my whole life so it’s been pretty cool to be able to share an experience like this with him for sure so yeah how was the fight last year it was good we just got pretty heated that game we were losing quite a bit so it was a a he heated match up but um something that you know friendly competition we’re we’re good guys now good friends still so yeah um yeah he did two good players going at it so we ended up fighting but it was a good experience and we’re still friends so that’s hockey for sure yeah how would you uh how would you describe his game oh his game he’s so pretty rare player but he’s an unbelievable type of player he I think he brings everything to the table um someone that I um look up to and the power he has the strength that he has and want to bring that to my game but he’s someone that I think can do anything on the ice all over the ice to both sides of the puck so um the Blue Jackets obviously past four years have not on the in the NHL haven’t gone great for him that’s why they pick High what do you think of him as a as a guy who just got drafted pretty high into that organization I think it was a great pick he’s someone that’s going to be around for a while and I think he’s ready to be there right away so he’s someone that um I think was a really smart pick I know if could played 200 foot game but he both sides the pcka room to develop so I think he’s going to be a safe pick and going to be a really good player in the NHL one day talking about you oh yeah but uh you know you know you’re coming into this as well I mean obviously uh what do you think about joining the Blue Jackets you know kind of a a young you know powered team that looks like they’re on the rise no for sure no it’s an honor honestly I’ve heard so much good about the organization obviously watch G get um traed over there from Calgary watch our grow up watching Gill so it was pretty cool but um yeah nothing but good things about it I’m honored to be a part of this organization and the fan fans I know are awesome there too and um I think yeah something that I’m really looking forward to get stared with whenever that is and um yeah honored to be a part of the org organization for sure you guys play a tough brand of hockey out in Brandon what has uh the week Kings organization done for your development oh they’ve done a lot I feel like um biggest side of my Improvement was my defensive game through them like it’s um something that I’ve really taken on that role but um the tough brand of hockey that I play I think just comes from my competitiveness so um being able to play that every night is something that I live up to and I enjoy so it’s um Obviously good for our team that they let me do that for sure but it’s something that I live up to for sure and how about growing up playing hockey in Austria like what does that do for a defens especially oh no it was great well my dad when he was over there he was playing defense for the pro hoey team over there um he’s a left shot a little bit different but growing up there was I was on the ice at 2 started skiing at two and then really started playing hockey around like when I was late three um from there just really uh enjoying the moment and um getting to live that Pro lifestyle my dad was living at the time and being around all the older hockey players but um yeah being six I played against eight and nyear olds um so it was pretty cool experience over there and I really caught me at the early early stages of the game though where I am today did you have to do like the cross ice when you were playing there that could be big but like that has to improve your hands oh for sure yeah it was it was a tight area but um to be honest can’t remember too much but I just remember uh really living over there and having a good time playing first years of hockey for sure yeah uh honest reaction here uh you you grew up a Flames fan I did yeah yeah so when Johnny when Johnny signed with Columbus no getting out of this one what was what was the reaction to be honest I wasn’t sure um I was um I was on both sides of it cuz I know he wanted to go to Columbus for sure but I thought that he had a good spot in Calgary like he was he was a really good player for Calgary and um loved loved his game loved watching him play he brought a lot of fans to the ring so it was uh I think tough tough on calg for sure but I thought it was a right move for him how about now I think yeah I mean he’s doing well now so um yeah I can’t can’t complain you weing the yeah I know it was going to be unbelievable playing around him for sure so looking up to it my whole life so it’s pretty cool you know anybody in the CBG organization any the players at all I know yeah I’m I know’s there um to be honest just have to get to know everyone but it’s um so I’m honored to be part of our organization I’m can’t wait to get started for sure
