BREAKING: Philadelphia 76ers SIGN Paul George In NBA Free Agency + Kelly Oubre Re-Signs | 76ers News

[Music] darl mury did it it has finally happened we went live for 10 hours on Philadelphia 76ers now and we were waiting and waiting and waiting for wo or Shams to send out the tweet that the Sixers were signing Paul George and NBA free agency and after a dinner in California a meeting in California that went deep into the night on night one of free agency going into day two pretty much the Philadelphia 76ers have landed their star in Paul George we’re not sure as of right now what the contract details are it is being reported that it’s going to be a 4-year contract $212 million for Paul George and Philadelphia as soon as we find out that information precisely we’ll of course let you know here on the show but we wanted to bring you this instant reaction because this is a massive move for Philadelphia we’ve been talking about Paul George for months here on 76ers now and it’s been such a wild ride there was the reported interest that Philadelphia had in him and then Shams Chiran had reported that the Sixers were out on Paul George and then we kind of talked about on the show how that seemed a little bit fishy and then things really started to pick up momentum over the last couple of days and even during day one and night one a free agency it was also an experience for us Adrien wowski had tweeted this out that according to ESPN sources Paul George’s agent Aaron Mintz of CAA and Clippers president Lawrence Frank had a conversation a short time ago you can see the timestamp down below that resulted in no New Movement on a deal and an acknowledgement by both sides that George is unlikely to return to the clipper and then you had a feeling shoot this is really going to happen the 76ers are going to land PG and they’re going to team him up alongside Tyrese Maxi and Joel MB to put together what would have been last year the highest scoring Trio in the NBA and it’s a move that makes Philadelphia so fascinating in the Eastern Conference pitting them up against Boston and New York but also across the entire NBA when w shed the Sixers really appear to be the clear front Runners that’s when you had the indication that a deal was going to happen at some point but we waited hours and we were live for hours waiting for this to happen and during that time frame you also had the Los Angeles Clippers release a statement that was pages long in thanking PG-13 for his 5 years in Los Angeles and saying that both sides were very far apart and Paul George told us that he was going to sign a contract elsewhere I know that to some this is a very exciting move I’m excited because I think this makes Philadelphia a better basketball team you upgrading from Tobias Harris to Paul George and on both ends of the floor this makes you a much better ball Club Paul George even at 34 years old and I get it the amount of money that he’s getting if it is true that it’s the four years and $212 million it’s a lot for a player who’s 34 years old who’s deal with some injury issues we are also scarred by older players signing big deals with Philadelphia and it not working out but Paul George is still an elite two-way player and it’s not like Philadelphia is signing him to be their number one Paul George is your number three so the upgrade in your number three as part of your big three from Tobias Harris to Paul George is drastic here and Paul George is coming off a year in which he averaged 22 and half points per game 47% shooting and 41% from three what have the Knicks done this off season they retained ogan and Obi they made the trade for maau Bridges they’re deep at the Wing Spot this is a wing driven league and when you look at the history of the NBA you win titles with wings the Boston Celtics have two Elite wings and Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum who just won an NBA championship you need a player to be able to defend them you need a wing score the Sixers have been bereft of that in the playoffs over the last several years so Paul George helps you in those areas and as a fit just an overall offensive fit next to Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid he can play off ball and he’s comfortable in doing that whereas Tobias Harris was really never comfortable now I also worry about Paul George being worried about what the media says about him because there’s been some talk and there’s been some chatter that he has let that affect him and coming to the pressure cooker of Philadelphia it’s a different world it’s a different culture it’s a different media landscape but as far as a basketball situation goes I thought this is the best fit and the best basketball situation for Paul George Tyrese Maxi is a star he could score at all three levels he’s lightning quick touch around the rim crafty finisher range for days he really grew as a distributor Joel embiid a three-level scorer as a big just insanely gifted he’s really good on both ends of the floor and now you have Paul George so if you’re an opposing team Philadelphia becomes very difficult to guard Philadelphia brought back Kelly UB so right now you have pretty much four fifths potentially of your starting lineup in place with Tyrese Maxi at the one Kelly UB at the two Paul George at the three Sixers have to figure out the four spot they have Joel em beat at the five they brought back Andre Drummond he’s your backup five they signed Eric Gordon he’s been hovering between 37 and 40% from three over the last couple of years he’s older but it’s a depth pie there are still moves to be made for Philadelphia there is no doubt about that but you just love the Allin move by Daryl mury here in getting aggressive paying up and going after Paul George in a monster ticket move for Philadelphia which could go down as the move that gets the Sixers over the top it could be the move that holds the Sixers back but in the NBA in professional sports you cannot be scared aggressive businesses win and I love the aggressive mentality from Philadelphia here to get their guy Daryl Mory said it after the year we want a wing who can score and defend in the playoffs that’s what Paul George is so ch I bring you on we had to wait hours for this it’s late it’s early whatever you want to call it we haven’t slept your thoughts on this move though I am ecstatic look it’s a wing driven league and we have been waiting for darl mury to make the Olen move and show why he got paid his extension and why he is here on this team and that is to make winning moves to go all in to truly compete with teams like the Celtics like like the Knicks who have made similar all-in moves and have talent and Paul George is a rare breed in the NBA a tall 68 69 Wing that does everything can handle the ball like a guard can get to the rim can create his own shot but also with Paul George a tremendous catch and shoot three-point shooter and there’s not many wings like Paul George in the leue there just isn’t that have his skill set and he’s the type of guy he can give you 2025 explode for over 30 On Any Given night and guard the opposing team’s best player guard those Jaylen Browns guard those Jason tatums guarded Jaylen Brunson he can really really do it all and I love the way this team is starting to be formulated around and beat around Maxi Kelly UB Eric Gordon Andre Drummond and now Paul George again we’ve been asking darl Mo when are you going to in I get the injuries are concerning I get the ages of concern and some of the playoff performances at times haven’t been spectacular but as a third option it doesn’t get much better than Paul George and I cannot wait to see how this plays out on the court Paul George is a sixer it’s finally here and I am so so excited I want to get to some analytics and then we’ll get to Kelly UB coming back to Philadelphia on a plus isolation possessions per game he remains one of the best ISO scorers in the league he also shot 41.3% from three last year on nearly eight attempts per game that was second most among 21 players who attempted 7 plus 3es and he also average 7.8 points per game in the fourth quarter last year Joel embiid was 4.7 and Tyrese Maxi was seven both outside the top 25 and so Paul George at 7.8 that’s the seventh most fourth quarter points in the entire NBA last year so he can close games for Philadelphia but so can Tyrese Maxi so can Joel embiid and they all complement one another they all help each other because they’re all going to get open looks real quick on Kelly UB Jr we did talk about this during our live show the Sixers are bringing him back 2year $16.3 million deal the second year is going to be a player option for Kelly UB he embraced his role last year under Nick nurse the Sixers really wanted to bring him back he wanted to come back I thought that Nick nurse did a great job of taking an athlete who before last year was an athlete and helping develop his basketball craft to the point where he became a really good Defender knocked down some big threes from time to time the three-point numbers were solid the athleticism at the wing from a playmaking play creating standpoint was awesome and it’s good to bring a player like that to have some continuity as for the financials on this this is kind of right in line with where the wing Market is it also looks like the room mid-level exception which could mean that Andre Drummond and that signing that we talked about a little bit earlier will be made using the Philadelphia 76ers cap space of course a lot of this is fluid right now and we’ll pass along those confirmed details when we get all of this financial information for UB 2 years 16.3 and for Paul George it is going to be a 40e year $212 million Max contract with Philadelphia here Adrien W norowski with those contract details Jord and his agent Aaron Mintz of CAA met with the Sixers officials including owner Josh Harris darl Mur Elton bran and the legend Julius Irving in Los Angeles and PG agreeing to that deal which does include a player option
