  1. Just so that everyone is on the same page here, this is the [current situation](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GRYsAh-XUAAulgr?format=jpg&name=large) for the Sixers. We have 9 mil left to play with below the cap.

These are the simplified [CBA rules](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GRSKBPTXcAA8PSq?format=png&name=small). Cap is 140 mil, 1st apron is 178, 2nd apron is 188. Oubre is getting the room exception as things stand.

Our available cap space is partially limited by the fact that we have many empty roster spots. Each empty roster spot “costs” a 1.2 mil cap hold. So, theoretically, if we add a guy making 5 mil, we’ll still have 5.2 mil left to play instead of 4. Just something to keep in mind, in case some Drummond-level role players turn up.

  2. now the real offseason begins for me: hate-watching where Tobias ends up and for how much

  3. What’s next?

-2 way ball handler with size (Dunn?)

-4 or big wing that can shoot, rebound, and protect the rim a bit (J. Smith? Isaac? Craig?)

-or the Daryl special: talent over everything (Klay ultimate spacing? )

    Still have Reed’s contract + 4 picks + extra swaps + McCain.

Does Daryl go for it now or at the deadline for Markkannen/similar? If the latter might just end up signing salary filler.

I feel like he’s not going to want to “waste” 1-2 FRPs on role players and I kind of get it if he can get a bigger impact/potential player at the same salary slot w/ more picks.

  4. Wonder what else they’ll do, 9 mil left and they could probably move bball for more flexibility

  5. Couldn’t PG left us a bit to tinker with instead of insisting on a full max? Hmm

  6. With PG secured, Deni trade looking nice with his contract. Timing of everything a lil unfortunate.

  7. The Drummond deal makes me think Markkanen is never happening. One of the main benefits of adding Lauri would be his ability to play the 5 while Embiid is sitting in the playoffs, and give us some continuity in terms of offensive playing style.

If they thought that Markkanen a possibility, they’d never commit a non-minimum contract to a backup Center.

  8. Very happy to see Oubre back. Sixer for life.

Have to hand it to Morey, he cooked with that Harden trade. Getting clippers picks and essentially getting Paul George from them at the same time a year later? Patience worked.

And most importantly Tobias Harris is not on the team!

  9. We still need more players. A great day one. Fantastic day one. But as we’ve seen many times before with our top heavy teams… we NEED some decent depth. Right now we have literally no more players.

    Drummond
    Bona
    McCain
    RCIV

    Maxey
    Gordon
    Oubre
    PG
    Embiid

Would love Lowry to come back and play 16-20 mins a game instead of 40. Also we need a wing/PF who’s going to sell out for rebounds. Seems it won’t be Bball. Bona is still too unproven. That feels like the last piece to me.

  10. Well boys we are all in, at least we can say we tried for Embiid. If this works we’ll have a chip and these players will be able to be dealt for more than we paid, if we lose get ready for the darkest era yet. The end is near

  11. Dunno how much I like DFS cause he’s an average to below average rebounder and we have Oubre/PG who are the same.

He makes $15M which is probably about the value he’s actually giving you….feel like he’s not as good as he was in Dallas on D either.

Maybe as a stopgap tradable salary / 1 pick option but would love to get a player locked into a surplus contract with potential like we did with Melton. Deni would have been great.

  12. fun fact this is the first season Embiid has played without Harris or Okafor

  13. As someone that’s defended almost all of Morey’s tenure here I have to say I’m just whelmed right now. While PG is a good fit I’m a bit concerned about his health and impending fall off. Unless he lands Lauri with the remaining space. Curious to see what we’re holding all of those draft picks for.

  14. I like how some fans and the main sub don’t realize there are no other options that outweigh the risk involved with PG. Who exactly can they get that elevates them in the playoffs? This was the best option available and the risk is certainly worth it. Of course none of them over there are providing any actual alternatives. I guess Philly should just bench Embiid, concede the entire season, and not sign anyone because a player might get hurt. smh

  15. It looks like our guard rotation is set with Maxey/Mccain/Gordon/Lowry (eventually re-sign will be announced)

  16. Think the 5th starter will be crucial, PG is the most impactful but Morey gotta make his money getting creative to find a decent 5th starter… options are prob limited now so most likely that will be ideal fit more than ideal talent level. I guess right now Gordon is a starter TBD, but ideally, it’s someone else.

  17. Personally, I would like for us to trade Reed+pick for one of Onyeka Okongwu / Bobby Portis / Wendell Carter Jr. Guys who can play PF alongside Embiid and do a lot of the ‘dirty work’ while also being potential options at the 5 when Jo sits/load manages.

From here, I would like us to sign:

    •Trendon Watford (Forward) – Min
    •Lowry (Guard) – Min
    •Fultz/DSJ (Guard) – Min
    •RoCo (Forward) – Min
•KJ Martin (Forward) – 2/30 fully ngt using Bird Rights as a Human Trade Exception
    •Josh Christopher (guard) – 2Way*

This would leave us with a list looking something like:

    Maxey-Lowry-Fultz-Christopher*
    Oubre-Gordon-McCain-Jones*
    PG-RC4-Watford-Edwards*
    Okongwu-KJ Martin-RoCo
    Embiid-Drum-Bona
    *2-Ways

Think it gives us enough weapons to create a fun roster. I don’t love the shooting at the 4 but we don’t really have the capspace to do much else and I like the upside with Okongwu/WCJ – they’re both capable stationary shooters. The dream outcome would be to get Tari Eason back in a Paul Reed trade/waive and trade into space, but I don’t know if the Rockets will go for it.

  18. All I’ll say is, I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ll get my hopes up if PG and Joel are still standing on both legs come April.

  19. We essentially have a new three year window. The last year of PG’s will probably be a gap year for us, and that’s ok

  20. Is there an argument to just waive bball, spend $7M on a role player with the rest of the cap space, keep KJM’s bird rights and extend him for like $5-6M? Then you have $13M + a minimum contract or 2 to use in a deadline trade for a bigger player?

  21. * Totally speculating here, but unless a really good free agent or trade option materializes, I think the Sixers are going to look to fill in the gaps in the roster with a couple of smallish salaries (no super exciting household names), see how the Big 3 play together, and figure out what missing pieces need to be added at the trade deadline. The Sixers are in a position where they can keep all of their remaining assets and make a splash with their stockpile of draft picks then.
    * Does anybody know what’s the deadline for guaranteeing Paul Reed’s contract? With Paul George secured, and no longer enough cap space to try to add another significant player, I think it makes sense to guarantee Reed’s non-guaranteed contract for both for depth as well as him being a potential salary cap matching piece for trades.

  22. Finney-Smith is an awful fit with George, stop suggesting him. He’s old and can’t rebound. Need an actual athlete.

  23. Who can give a quick summary of our cap space situation now?

All veteran minimums from here on out?
