If he was coming to the West, I didn’t expect it to be OKC. This past year’s 1 seed just got better. How can we improve?

  1. Keep in mind OKC was historically healthy last year. They had by far the least amount of games missed of any team. Keep in mind where Memphis ended up was historically injured.

  2. That’s a huge overpay. But their roster is kind of polished already. Reminds me of the Porzingis move for the Celtics. “Luxuries” are now necessities if you want to win a ring.

  3. Whilst I think we shouldn’t be too overreactive given how injured we were last season. The moves that OKC have made are the type of moves I think we should have been making in 22 (albeit positional need is different). If Edey and one of GG/Vwill breakout then I think we can compete but they’re big ifs…

  4. Depends on whether we use the final roster spots on Kennard and Wells. We technically have 2 roster spots available I believe, but Kennard is likely coming back to take one, so there is just that last spot.

I really would like to see Wells on a two-way and use that last spot on a vet. Broad strokes either they’d be a forward that can play next to Edey or a wing who can shoot. I’d also be ok with a 5th big as insurance against Edey not being ready or injuries occuring. The problem we have is FAs know the rotation is pretty crowded as is. Ja, Bane, Smart, Jaren, Edey, GG, Vince, Clarke are all getting minutes so whoever signs is competing with Santi, Kennard (probably) and Konchar for minutes.

This is why I think our best path to upgrading the roster is to try and upgrade roster spots like Ziaire, Rose, Santi, or Konchar through a trade. Obviously this is easier said than executed, but that’s the play. I come back to the Nets as a great trade partner as they are going nowhere but have solid players who could help fill out this roster. Even better if you can free up a roster spot in the trade process.

  5. I feel like that was a move very much in response to how Chet was abused in the playoffs but also they’re probably like *”Okay, what will we do when we play Memphis and they put JJJ & Mt. Edey out there?”* They also have to look at KAT & Gobert (*assuming that KAT doesn’t end up traded*) and feel like Chet’s just not enough down low.

I’m not surprised at the move by either party but we’re still better.
