  1. Wood walked up to Crew by Goldlink, worked a full count, and got a hit in his first MLB at bat. He’s already a DC sports legend!!

  2. It’s a beautiful thing to truly feel optimism again in DC baseball

The light is at the end of the tunnel, I’m very excited

  3. I don’t think it’s an overreaction to say he should already be a Hall of Famer

  4. Mets broadcast showing him on first base, kid looks serene and completely locked in. Was a great piece of hitting taking a 3-2 pitch oppo. Washington, good luck with him.

  5. Padres essentially traded

    6 years of Wood

    6 years of CJ Abrams

    5 years of Gore

    2 years of Grisham

    Number 57 ranked prospect Hassel

    for

    1.5 years of Soto

    2 years of Cease

    2 years of King

    1 year of Higashioka

    5 years of Vásquez

    5 years of Brito

Going to be one of the most interesting trades in history.

  6. Great smile – wish everyone could have this experience. Let’s just sum it up – baseball is great!

  7. Watching this game because of James Wood (the top Nats prospect and NOT the guy who took over the Kwik E Mart when Apu got fired) and it made me look up how close Nats Park is to my old apartment back when I lived in DC a decade ago.

Apparently ~25 minutes away and I lived there for a year and never went to any games. And this was when the Nats were good.

  8. it’s crazy how much better SNY broadcast is. they had a great shot of the hit, then cut to the family celebrating, down to the crowd, back to the players. it was really sweet and booth was able to react to the hit with context. i think SNY audio picks up the crowd pop way better too.

  9. That was such a professional at-bat too. Worked the count, went with the pitch.

  10. I know stuff like this may seem silly. But I love how baseball players know how important that first hit is. Like you see Alonso end up with the ball and toss it towards the Nats dugout

  11. League sure is turning out a lot of these lanky giants, these days. Used to be they said guys like this were too tall and had too many moving parts. Dave Winfield and Randy Johnson were the odd men out, in their days.

  12. Juan Soto being in that lineup next season with these guys is going to be wild

  13. As a certified NL East hater, the gNats rebuild happened so quickly and is looking pretty impressive. I hate it.

  14. You know he was on deck thinking “Just hit it hard somewhere…”
    And he did.
