How Does John Metchie Make the Houston Texans?

How Does John Metchie Make the Houston Texans?

you just never know where on the depth chart a player is going to start the season and ultimately make a big play for the team over the course of the 18 weeks of the Season Deo Ryan has talked at length about it the Texans need more depth we’re going through all of the depth on this team and we’re doing it with our wheel of backups so let’s spin the wheel of backups and see what comes our way oh this a good one here how about John mie all right John meie is a fascinating player for this team he could be as good as wide receiver for he could be off the team by the time training camp wraps up and they’re figuring out who’s going to be on this roster Mei is an intriguing player because he’s finally healthy okay he came off of the knee injury obviously had the cancer uh diagnosed has fought through that and he was coming back from that last year and you see a difference already in just a little bit of work in mini camp and OTAs Mei looks like a different player CJ strad has said it Mei has displayed it the cutting the efficiency the speed the quickness it looks all a little bit better physically he looks a little bit better and John meie if he could turn into the player he was supposed to be as a second round pick that’s a really fun an intriguing fourth wide receiver for this team obviously we know about the top three tank Dell uh Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs that battle for that fourth spot or whichever fourth spot based on the characteristics of the player they need that week Noah brown john Mei kind of be the inside favorites for that fourth spot mie as a player close to what he was supposed to be as a second round pick that’s a really intriguing fourth wide receiver for this Texans sting heck even if Noah Brown is just better and M’s the fifth wide receiver and showcases a lot more than he did last year for the Texans that’s a really intriguing fifth wide receiver for a team we know the Texans are going to rotate receivers keep those guys fresh that’s been a comment that has been made this off season now do I see mety getting on the field instead of Diggs or Collins or um tank Dell no but when those guys need to tap out and they need a breather they need a second John Mei is absolutely the type of guy you gotta feel pretty decent about getting in there if he’s going to make this team you might even need to feel good about putting Mei in there if he’s going to make this team because there are some tough decisions to make at the wide receiver position I think about a guy like Ben scanic Robert Woods Noah Brown Stephen Sims on and on and on you’ve got different guys with different skill sets different levels of usefulness if Mei doesn’t show a whole lot more than he did last year maybe it’s time for him to do something else with somebody else Texans to use his roster spot on someone else but if Mei looks closer to that second round pick that he was supposed to be he looks a lot better than he did last year the Texans are entering the wide receiver situation with a bevy of options and a group of guys that you can feel good about the top three which are the headline guys and then you can feel good about maybe the three after them which are the depth guys as well and mety could be one of those guys that can make you feel great and you feel really good the wide receiver room mey Noah Brown Square this thing up you could feel great about the wide receiver room let’s go ahead and bring the wheel up and give it a spin and see who we’re talking about as you see there’s a lot of names here I’ve made sure to add just about everybody make sure we don’t miss anyone over the course of our wheel of backups and this one’s going to be Tariq Barnes an undrafted linebacker that I don’t believe has a ton of chances to make this team there’s a lot of competition at the linebacker spot you think about obviously Aziz alshire and um Christian Harris are kind of the starters in that two linebacker situation then you’ve got Neville huitt who’s on this team as a special teams Ace along with delhon Phillips Jacob Phillips is a guy that’s here Jake Hansen’s been around the team for a couple of Seasons Max tuli’s a fellow undrafted free agent just like Barnes that is an intriguing player and then Jamaal hill was a draft pick by this team it’s not going to be easy for bar to make this team there’s a little juice to him okay he’s got some athleticism he’s not a small guy he’s not a huge guy by any means played at Illinois and so he’s got a little of experience at some big-time football you know this isn’t some undrafted guy out of you know noville state where they’ve only played one or two big time teams I mean this is Big 10 football that he’s played I just don’t see it he’s really fighting for a practice squad opportunity stick around in the building Beyond training camp I’d love to be surprised but I don’t see how Tariq Barnes is going to end up on this team let’s get the wheel spinning again for more wheel of backups this one’s gonna be a another backup it’s gonna have a tough time making the roster and that’s Troy Pride Pride’s been around uh since the team signed him uh a Futures Contract uh he was on the practice squad last year so it’s a defensive back that’s got a little bit of a chance to stick around as a practice squad guy be a depth guy there’s actually while there’s a lot of competition in the secondary if a young guy like Pride or D’Angelo Ross and Brandon Hill I say young guy guy doesn’t have a lot of NFL experience if guy doesn’t have a lot of NFL experience or hasn’t played a lot for the Texans if they could make a name for themselves in training camp you stick around on the practice squad maybe get an opportunity due to some injuries or heck you got to keep a certain number of defensive backs I have to imagine that if money starts to get a little tight and maybe paying a guy to be a backup when he’s get a little bit higher salary is less attractive than paying a guy who would be making little to nothing a guy like Pride but it’s not g to be easy for Pride he’s been around since 2020 a former Notre Dame quarterback uh but a guy that’s gonna have a uphill battle to try to make this team let’s see what the wheel of backups has for us here I call the wheel of backups it really should be the wheel of depth and this is a big depth name that’s popping up here another one in the secondary MJ Stewart now Stewart was turned to after the Eric Murray injury and played decently until ultimately an injury ended his season I feel like Stewart Eric Murray Jimmy Ward and Jaylen Petri put together as the top four safeties with kin bulock mixing in there somewhere the rookie from USC that is a intriguing and interesting safety room you can do a lot with those guys there’s some special teams usefulness to those guys the guy like Stewart who’s been around this team as a special teamer and has been around this team as a uh you know sometimes contributor on the field is a guy that can certainly stick around for the Houston Texans and can make a name for himself on the depth chart he’s also the type of guy that we just talked about Troy Pride or some of these other defensive backs he’s the type of guy get get pushed by the young guys as well because he’s not as established as the wards and the Petri are so won’t be easy for MJ Stewart I liked a little bit of what he had to put together last year prior to the injury the team has him back again this year and as a backup player a pretty solid player so it’s not the worst thing in the world if MJ Stewart ends up on the depth chart and maybe with some experience on this team and in the system it’s a little bit easier for him to make it for the Houston Texans let’s spin the wheel again see what comes up here let’s see got some secondary guys a little wide receiver action for you all right Jaylen Thomas is a backup offensive lineman and I have a hard time figuring out exactly what this offensive line is ultimately going to look at or look like Thomas is battling a handful of guys for a roster spot on this team Blake fiser and Charlie heck I would think are square ahead of him not only for Fischer being a draft pick but hex got experience with this system and has played a little bit here in the NFL Thomas is a guy that they brought over towards the back end of last year or throughout last year and is around and has the opportunity to get on this team again David sharp is a guy that he’s has has to beat out a free agent of the Texans brought over uh in free agency from Carolina and Killian zir who is a undrafted rookie the Texans had last year uh he got hurt was hurt for the season but he’s back on this team again this year showed some promise uh at Auburn a little bit he’s a big kid he’s a young guy there might be a little something there originally from Germany Zer is um but Thomas has quite the uphill battle to make this team but it’s the Tackle Spot you never know how good or bad somebody’s going to look in the limited real reps that you can judge and you need to keep guys like Thomas uh not necessarily on speed but you need to remember where his name is in your contacts just in case those dreaded tackle injuries pop up yet again let’s get the wheel of backup spin it again let’s see what else the wheel has for us speaking of backups along the offensive line this one’s going to be quite the fight for larius Henderson it is not out of the question that larius Henderson is absolutely on this team and is a worthwhile backup option for this team it’s it’s also not out of the question that the rookie draft pick for the Texans late round pick for the Texans is not going to make the team and then even make the practice squad there is a lot of competition at the guard spot for this team you think about Ken Yun green fighting for the left guard spot but you’ve also got Kendrick green Jared Patterson if he loses out to the centers competition and then if Jared Patterson wins the center composition then ju Scruggs is fighting for that guard spot Nick broker is a player the Texans pick picked up off of waivers at the end of training camp last year he was on the team all year long deer Iceland is a guy who’s also around like there’s a lot of competition for the guard spot and larius Henderson certainly is gonna find himself fighting very hard for a roster spot with a lot of those guys now again young guy draft pick cheap there’s a lot of advantages to larius Henderson getting this opportunity then a veteran going into a little bit more into his career a little bit later in his career there’s reasons why you would go with larius Henderson and I know he played tackle in college but Nick cerio after they drafted Henderson made it clear that they view him as an inside guy he’s a big fella so I it’s a pretty intriguing project for the Texans to figure out what exactly larius Henderson can be for them and find out if he can solidify a guard spot for this team it’s not going to be easy he is a draft pick so he has that kind of going for him But ultimately there’s a lot of competition and I can’t for sure tell you today larius Henderson is going to be on the Houston Texans sure hope he is and if he is that means he’s done something right the wheel spins again we’re GNA roll through these names we got lots of names to get to let’s roll through this one with another rookie Oh I thought it ended on Gerard Jordan but it ended up on my guy Max Tuli Tuli is a 25-year-old undrafted free agent from BYU and Tuli is one of my favorite undrafted free agents for the Texans he has had a really impressive career at BYU he’s basically gotten better every year he was with the Cougars he showcased some uh past defense prowess he’s had a few interceptions he’s returned some of those interceptions for touchdowns he’s his athletic profile is actually pretty good you take some of his testing numbers in the draft process and throw them against some other linebackers who got drafted well got drafted because Tulie is an undrafted guy Tuli Stacks up pretty favorably against those guys I feel like some of the things going against him is he played lesser competition on a regular basis because he played at BYU he’s a little bit older than some of these guys so the the you know get him in the building wait see develop you know a guy could get in the building develop for three four years and then basically hit the age that Max Tuli is right now three four years from now Max Tuli is going to be nearly 30 and it’s like can you wait that long for that guy to be in the building hang around and develop but there’s something there to Tulie in a NFL that stresses the ability to cover with linebackers and to trust a linebacker that you’re going to put on the field in one of your two linebacker sets that can go out there and cover a running back a tight end a slot wide receiver I’m not saying Tuli can do that from day one but the ath letic ISM and some of the play recognition just watching him at BYU is there to do some of those things and that’s what’s working as a big positive for Max Tully the negatives the age he’s got a lot of competition at the linebacker spot we talked about it when Tariq Barnes was one of the names that we spun here on the wheel there’s a lot of competition and there’s not a lot of spots there tuli’s ability to impact on special teams will be big for him if he’s a special teams demon in the preseason and just absolutely looks like he’s a guy that can make a difference on the new kickoff than Tuli could have himself a chance to not only maybe make the roster but certainly make the practice squad for the Houston Texans let’s say you to one more spin here we got a lot of names so we can spin the wheel a few more times before the preseason gets here but let’s end on this one how about Eric Murray the backup safety for the Houston Texans now Murray is a player that demo Ryan spoke High of last year once they had to play him a lot early on in the season and he spoke highly of him once they ended up playing him Murray’s a guy that doesn’t feel like demo Ryan is thumbs up on they were able to keep Eric Murray around and Deo Ryan even in the offseason when I asked him about Murray at the owner meetings in Orlando uh he was thumbs up on Murray then as well like it’s a guy that as a backup player is a player that is useful to the Houston hon Texans they can do a couple of different things they can put him on the field with the other two safeties who are the projected starters and Jimmy Ward and Jaylen Petri for that three safety look he can play a little bit of that center field safety um he can you know and that allows you to push Jaylen Petri or Jimmy Ward up into the Box Murray is a fun depth player for this team and I’d be pretty surprised if somebody this season beats him out for depth repetitions now ultimately you hope that kin bullet can push him for depth opportunities and ultimately push past Eric Murray and become a starter for this team at the safety spot but as far as Murray goes he is a key depth piece because of the health concerns of Jimmy Ward so you may need to play Murray the inconsistency concerns for Jim Jaylen Petri so you may have to play Murray the tough part for Murray is he’s a health concern guy as well he got hurt early on in the season and the Texans were missing him for the rest of the year his absence and not having the depth at safety sparked the conversation from Deo Ryan this past off season about depth he was talking specifically about the safety spot and how they were playing the Ravens and they had guys that they had picked up even at the safety spot in the middle of the Season playing for this team safety is incredibly important for Deo Ryan’s defense he needs to be able to a trust those guys and B move those guys around like a chess piece and have them execute that defense and make the other nine guys if it’s two safeties or eight guys M three safeties right with how they operate on the field it’s incredibly important to get good safety play Murray is a depth piece third safety is a very important player for this Texans team and that’s where the wheel stopped spinning today what say you what’ you make of the players we went through here on this video as the wheel of we’re gonna start calling it The Wheel of depth the wheel of depth spun again the wheel of backups if you will we’re working on the name here you notice we changed the colors a little bit got him a bit more Texans colored on the wheel But Eric Murray our latest one covered some other names on there some interesting names some long shots and uh for shury in John meie that well I say for surey should be a for surey if he performs the way that he did in OTAs and mini camp let’s say you what do you make of those players let me know in the comment section Down Below on your way down there throw me a thumbs up on the video subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already let me know what you think about the wheel and suggest some other wheel is topics that you might 1. I am excited to see what this kid has got. This will be his 1st year to be able to show up as the guy we drafted. I hope he shows out. You can never have too much depth at any position.

  2. John Metchie is going to have a breakout season!! First of all he’s my brother… because we share the same name, and my brother is going to show the world how great he is.

    MAKING WIDE-RECEIVER GREAT AGAIN!!
