New York Rangers MAKE KEY TRADE & SIGNING On DAY 1 of NHL FREE AGENCY | Jacob Trouba TRADE UPDATE

New York Rangers MAKE KEY TRADE & SIGNING On DAY 1 of NHL FREE AGENCY | Jacob Trouba TRADE UPDATE

we’ve got some very interesting New York Rangers news and updates take a look at here today from free agency day one for the entire NHL so we’re going to take a look at a Jacob trouba kind of update here involving that situation a trade the Rangers made as well as talk about the one fragen signing the Rangers made on day one of NHL frency as well and kind of talk about the overall frency kind of landscape and why the Rangers did not sign a big Target fre agent as well so let’s get right into here starting off here with the Jacob trouba situation unfortunately the update that I have for you is the fact that it seems like there’s not really an update on the situation and nothing has really changed over the last you know day or so as we have a quote here from Chris jury from Vince gagano as he post on next here jury on trouba Rumblings quote Jacob knows what I think of him as a person and a player as for what’s going on behind the scenes trade possibilities and the recent conversations he said he’s going to quote keep it private and I think it’ll be interesting to see whether or not we actually do see Jacob trouba trade personally I want to see it happen I think getting off that $8 million contract is what’s best for this team going forward he may be a good guy and a good leader and and bring some physicality that this team definitely needs but opening up that 8 milon cap space could go a long way for this team you go out there and acquire a very solid defenseman or replacement for agency or possibly VI trade you go out there and add another kind of really good forward and another defenseman as well if figure out that kind of you know third D pair kind of left D Spot there’s a lot of moves you could make opening up eight more million doll in caps space we still got to resign guys like lingren and Schneider that’ll eat into the kind of C spe we have available right now but going up there and getting rid of a guy like Jacob trouba’s $8 million capit get that off the books there would be massive for this team and hopefully we do see a trade happen with Jacob trouba at some point throughout this off season but carrying on here and taking a look at kind of why I think the Rangers didn’t go after some of those big name free agents that obviously got a pretty big payday and for a fairly long period of time as well there’s a lot of term given out on these big money deals for some guys who were on the wrong side of 30 there they got a long-term deal and a lot of money as well so we’re going to talk about that now I think a big thing yes there were a lot of great forwards and defenseman out there who could have been nice ads for this team you know top four caliber defenseman top six caliber forwards there were a lot of them out there obviously know like true kind of Superstar Elite kind of guys but there were a lot of really talented players out there who were obviously worth you know getting paid for sure but some of the deals that handed out I am quite happy the Rangers did not go out there and spend big money on all you see those guys like I think Brett pesu got a pretty fair contract there with the New Jersey Devils 6 years with a $5.5 million capit that’s not bad at all Chandler Stevens and he got seven years 6.25 I think that’s a little much there sha Monahan at 5 years 5.5 mil capit that’s not terrible but maybe a little more than what you want to give to him Matt raw he ended up getting a six-year deal with a 5.75 capit that’s a little more than I look to see there Brandon Montour 7 years 7.14 million again that’s a little more I would like to see there and a guy like Brady Shay as well 7 time seven is definitely more than I would like to see given out guy like marsho there I was a big fan of really wanted to see this team Target but he ends up getting five years at $5.5 million that is way too much for what Marsh so brings obviously and not necessarily right now but in 3 four years this guy is already 33 years old he turns 34 throughout this season he’s getting a fiveyear deal that is way way too much for a guy like him of his caliber I think the 5.5 milit is pretty good but longterm wise that contract’s probably not going to look great so I think there were a lot of good deals give out for sure some of them were good but a lot of them were kind of overpays and maybe a couple years extra though I would like to see the Rangers give out so I think overall Dre did a fine job of not going out there overpaying some of these guys a free agency and give them massive long-term deals where the capit and stuff like that long term isn’t going to look great I’m not too mad about that where some good deals out there like I said yes that I’m kind of upset that we didn’t go after maybe sure but I think in general Drew did a fine job of all not kind of maybe wanting to go longterm lot of these deals as well we have a lot of guys who are going to need new contracts going forward you know lafer eigor Keandre some of these guys are going to need big paydays especially laer and eigor eor maybe wants you know more than 12 mil so we’re going to need a lot of money to open up in the future– wise so that is definitely a fine thing in my opinion not out there and overpay for a bunch of guys although there were some pretty good contracts given out as well and next up here we’re going to take a look at the two moves the New York Rangers made the first one here trading for Riley Smith it was a 2027 second rounder as well as a 2025 fifth rounder which is going to be the lower of the two draft picks here between the Rangers and wild fifth rounder that’ll be own so not too bad there a second and a fifth is not too bad for Riley Smith at 25% retained as well which is kind of key there saving an extra $1.25 million off his $5 million capit so the capit comes down to 3.75 there not too bad at all I think he is a pretty solid player he’s going to be a solid addition here to the squad could either play on that right BNG side alongside Z bed Jet and Cryder or possibly on that third line I think he’s going to be a pretty solt offensive producer there especially at five on five add even strength there we know that is kind of an issue with this team at moments and he can definitely help with that especially alongside guys like cder’s Advantage at as he is more of a kind of playmaker and that could work alongside them or possibly in a depth scoring role as well would not be bad at all he is also a pretty solid kind of 200 foot player pretty solid defensively for a Winger not an elite kind of selfy winning guy but definitely not bad at all defensively can help on the PK as well penalty killing wise he’s not too bad is a phenomenal playoff performer as well he is an elite playoff performer produces at a very very good level has over 100 games played in the playoffs won a cup with Vegas back in 2022 2023 he’s 6’1 185 lbs plays a physical game can hit a bit he’s plays pretty tough there so I think overall this is a good move here by the Rangers and I think fails a couple of the needs I mean whether or not he is going to be that right winger to go alongside cder’s Advantage at maybe add another kind of talented guy to go up there but either way second or third line whatever it is he can fit in there in a pretty good spot you know good scorer good at 5 on5 200 foot game 6’1 185 lbs not bad size at all plays quite physical great playoff perform which is a need for this team as well we’ve got some kind of guys who you know don’t play the best in the playoffs this is someone who kind of UPS their game to another level in the playoffs which is very important I think overall should be a great veteran Winger to add in here I think should be a good fit on this team take a look at the stats though from this past season ended up putting up some pretty good numbers overall had 40 points 13 goals 27 assists in 76 games play with the Penguins on a not great team there ended up having 32 out of his 40 total points out even strength as well which is very very good and next up here we have Sam Carrick who was the only actual player the Rangers ended up signing on day one of NHL for agency I think he’s going to be a very solid you know decent fourth line Center not some player out here but he’s ended up signing a three-year deal with a $1 million capit per season maybe it’s an extra year too long Poss maybe should have been more like a two-year deal at 1 mil but I think overall this is a fine contract I mean 1 mil for fourth line Center I think is is solid business there not too bad at all this is a guy who just ended up playing with the Edmonton Oilers ended up going on a pretty good playoff around there had 10 games played one point in the playoffs that’s the only time he’s actually ever played in the playoffs he was previously on Anaheim and the Leafs as well so didn’t get a whole lot of play experience with them started his career with the Leafs there then went to Anaheim then at the deadline here got traded to the epan Oilers he’s been a pretty Sol player though at the NHL level he’s got pretty good size there 6′ 200 lb though pretty tough strong player very physical as well and that is a big kind of need for this team he definitely fills that need there a very physical player added in Riley Smith as well those two physical guys that we added in which is quite nice he’s got solid size like I said not a lot of offenseive production there he’s not going to produce at a great level offensively this past season ended up having a total of 77 games played combined between the Oilers and Anaheim ended up having 10 goals six assists 16 points averaging 12 minutes and 13 seconds per night not too bad there nothing crazy though for a fourth line Center but he definitely is a more kind of defensive minded kind of guy plays a very tough physical game ended up having 167 hits so over two hits per game not bad at all 24 takeaways 17 giveaways is pretty good and also on faceoffs averag a face off win percentage of 53.4 so very good Faceoff guy very physical 35 block shots as well not too bad good takeway to giveway ratio there is a more defensive minded Center I think is a good overall kind of 200 foot center not great offensively but solid defensively can help but the PK as well solid penalty killer play a very physical game block shots be a good Faceoff guy I think overall is going to be a Sol addition to the sport line here 52 games played the previous season seven points there in the previous one back in 2021 won 2022 had 64 games played 11 goals 10 assists 19 points two of his last three season he does have double digit goals so I think overall can be a solid fourth line Center more of a defensive minded kind of tough physical player but not going to be a bad addition at all and J provide a pretty good impact on that fourth line alongside guys like Matt rempe Adam edstrom possibly Jimmy VC will Coley there’s a good mix guys that we could have on the fourth line he definitely should have a pretty good impact on this team anyways thank you so much for watching if you have enjoyed this video please hit the like button and don’t forget to comment down below your thoughts on the Rangers signing Sam Carrick a solid fourth liner two-way guy defensive minded Center very physical and tough player also trading for Riley Smith for a pretty much second and fifth rounder solid Edition there should be a good kind of middle six Winger for this team a veteran guy great playoff performer and the Jacob trouba situation as a whole thanks watching don’t forget to subscribe for daily New York Rangers content I’ll catch you next one seea

New York Rangers did not sign any big-name free agents on day 1 of NHL free agency but opted to trade for Pittsburgh Penguins winger Reilly Smith and former Edmonton Oilers center Sam Carrick. Rangers still have some moves to make and could possibly find a move for captain Jacob Trouba at some point this offseason to open up even more cap space.

  1. I don't hate this pick up if he's for 3rd line . We still need a 1rw , Trouba needs to go I don't care about his wife's job . Bargain Bin Drury needs to secure an actual top level player.

  2. Building the best team doesn’t mean you need the best players. How many times is mcdavids name on the cup? Value and team fit is what’s important. We went toe to toe and lost to the team that won the cup. We are not in need to spend money on players who are not good value.

  3. I trust Drury. I trust Laviolette. It didn't seem like we hit any homeruns yesterday, but I have to believe that they think Smith will fit our system well. He's a skilled player that consistently put up 20+ goals. Playing with Zib and Kreider (if that's where he goes) could see him produce at that level or higher. For a second round pick (and a 5th), this is a great deal. He's better than Roslivic and Wheeler so instant upgrade on the top line. Sam Carrick is meh. I would have looked internally and saved a million bucks.

  4. You’re more optimistic than I am especially after every team in the division got better.. should of signed bertuzzi

  5. Rangers lost bigtime during the opening of the Free agency. It's clear the Rangers organization didn't have a plan going into FA based off of the lack of rumors leading up into FA or, they just didn't reach out to anyone. The only real way for the Rangers to really improve at this point would be via a blockbuster trade.

  6. Rangers bothced this big time. Now the team can’t move on because of the guys wife??? Never heard of such nonsense. Guy hasnt lived up to the deal, there’s zero acknowledgment on his side as to why this is all happening.

  7. Trouba trade and pickup Tarasenko. All we really need this offseason. Tarasenko wanted to come to NYR for cheap last year but his agent said no. We could sign Tarasenko for somewhere in the range of 1-1.5M

  8. Rangers did not subtract from their core. Florida and Carolina did. Also: if they signed a big time FA to a multi year deal they would be in cap hell next year when they have to address Shesterkin, Miller, Lafreniere and to a lesser degree Kakko. Eventually Trouba will be gone. For now they have filled a top 6 forward position for a low cap hit, they replaced the grit and bottom 6 character they lost in Goodrow and saved over 2.5M in doing so. Would like to see them bring in size for 6th or 7th D on the left side
