ST LOUIS BLUES MAKE TWO GREAT TRADES: OTTAWA SENATORS & DALLAS STARS SAY GOODBYE TO FORWARDS

[Applause] ladies and gentlemen the St Louis Blues have been going bargain hunting they went to their local card shop they pulled up to the dollar boxes they pulled up to the quarter boxes and they went through card by card by card looking for some deals that is exactly what the St Louis Blues have done firstly they’ve acquired Forma two Joseph and a third round pick in 2025 from the Ottawa Senators what’s the return well it’s uh nothing future considerations goes over to Ottawa and then on the other side you have yourselves the St Louis Blues acquiring radic faxa from the Dallas Stars what is the return well it is uh nothing the blues today have received two free players and a third round pick for future considerations now there are reasons as to why the Dallas Stars and the Ottawa Senators have made these moves but before we dive into that let’s go out there and talk about the press release Here Blues get foxa from Dallas and Joseph from Ottawa St Louis also receives ottawa’s 2025 third round pick both deals include future considerations St Louis Bo’s president of hockey operations and GM Doug Armstrong announced today the team has acquired forward roic foxer from the stars as well as Matthew Joseph and a third round pick from the Ottawa Senators each in exchange for future considerations foxa 30 years old dressed in 74 regular season games with the Stars last season posting 19 points and 20 penalty minutes he also contribut a goal in eight playoff appearances the vitkov Czech Republic native was originally drafted by the stars in the first round 13th overall of the 2012 draft and has spent his entire 9-year career in Dallas overall he has total 200 points and 356 penalty minutes in 638 career regular season games and 20 points and 28 penalty minutes in 79 career postseason games mat Joseph 27 played in 72 regular season games of the SS last season tallying 35 points and 51 penalty minutes the lval back native was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fourth round of the 2015 draft overall Matthew Joseph has accumulated 135 points and 168 penalty minutes in 360 regular season games Joseph has also made 10 postseason appearances including six in the 2021 season when he helped the lightning capture a Stanley Cup Championship so faxa and Joseph why exactly are the blues getting these guys for free well for mat two Joseph this is a lot easier to stomach I would say because for the Ottawa Senators they need the cap space that’s really it $ 2.9 Million a year is being freed up for the Ottawa Senators till the end of 2025 2026 and with the sends needing to resign Shane pinto and with them only having about 4ish million dollars in cap space already this move was kind of necessary they were in a position to get rid of a guy it was Matthew Joseph that was on The Chopping Block here the cost is a third round pick because the blues knew that Ottawa needed to get this move done and as a result the blues are getting a guy that could slot into their bottom six and be a very agitative Force whilst providing some good hustle and some fairly competent Point production at the same time 35 points in 72 games played is nothing to scoff at matw Joseph has worked self up to this point and if he can produce this whilst on the St Louis Blues it makes this contract all the more worth it when you consider it goes on until 2526 and the blues are getting a third round pick to get it very good piece of business here for both sides obviously for the Ottawa Senators it’s not like they want to lose out on matw Joseph for free it’s just that they really need that cap space that is a commodity in this year’s NHL and in order to resign Shane Pinto that seems like it was the ultimate necessity of a trade to go out there and make meanwhile for the radic foxs of Dallas Stars thing similar situation 3.25 million a year till the end of this upcoming season 30 years old for the big forward a guy who could slot into the middle of bottom six of the Blues as well 19 points 74 games played foxa has maxed out at 33 points in back-to-back NHL Seasons 79 and 80 games played in 20178 and 201617 it’s it’s kind of been a bit overachieving I would say like I don’t think radic faxa is a 30-point player anymore but he’s still there he is still stable enough to give minutes to and as a middle the bottom six presence who can provide size and some grit faxa certainly isn’t the worst player in the world to have I mean even The Scouting Report goes out there and says that he is a pretty aggressive and physical player with top level hockey sense and competitiveness although this Scouting Report was from over a decade ago it’s kind of nuts though to think that radic faxa has been in the Dallas Stars system for 12 years now drafted in 2012 eventually made his way onto the team and has never looked back since now it’s been a decade and he’s on St Louis for future considerations the Dallas Stars I don’t want to say they’re as desperate as the Ottawa Senators are to free up some cap space and get some contract numbers freed up but if you go over to the stars and their profile here I got to start getting used to puckpedia because this certainly is not friendly the layout is a little bit different here there are some guys that the Dallas Stars do need to resign Joe pavelski is a UFA but of course that’s not going to happen we already know that he’s done Thomas Harley is an RFA you need to hand out a contract to him and I think that’s about it right there are a few prospects that you need to give contracts to but other than that you should be good how much caps do they have yeah $7.9 million a year so this is a pretty all right move when it comes to Dallas freeing up some roster spots and some cap space it doesn’t really seem like this move was too desperate in comparison to the mat Joseph Ottawa Senators move mostly because the S do need to sign that Shane Pinto that is under their RFA status right here yeah so $6.5 million in cap space now with the freed up matw Joseph contract and the biggest one they need to go out there and do Shane Pinto right here you also got Dominic kubalik who is a free agent who really knows if he’s going to sign or sign elsewhere it’s all up for debate at this point but either way the S and the Dallas Stars are both freeing up cap space with these two moves and the Ottawa Senators ultimately are the ones that I think are getting the best bang for their Buck here they needed to get this done and for St Louis they’re bolstering up their forward core in the process so Matthew Joseph radic faxa both heading over to the blues if we go over to the blues and their line combinations here this is where you get into a little bit more of of the interesting mix and match territory St Louis Blues NHL line combination so it already has them here nice Alexandre texier was a player they had acquired earlier as well like that addition a lot mat Joseph texi and Kapp and that’s a really nice third line honestly I like that a lot while it is true that the St Louis Blues May lack absolute top-end Talent we know Robert Thomas is pretty good we know Jordan cyu is great as well but none of these guys I would say are like Pinnacle cream of the crop absolutely elite game-changing 90o players I mean if Robert Thomas or Jordan Kye gets 70 80 points this season I wouldn’t be too surprised but rounding out the rest of the lineup here I mean Brandon s has always been solid Jake neighbors is coming into his own mat Joseph honestly if you played neighbors and matw Joseph together I feel like that’d be a really good combination just an absolute terrorizing line for other teams in that Central Division rodic fox has penil in here as the fourth line Center Alexandre texier he still got a lot more to prove for himself at the NHL level Casper Ka and you could say same thing and then of course you’ve got tchenko and Oscar sunfist to round out the bottom of the lines here either way this is a pretty deep team I like it a lot it’s a pretty good amount of addition to make for these guys and the contracts aren’t too long either foxa of course expires this upcoming offseason Matthew Joseph the year after that so it’s not like you’re committing super big term to either of these guys you’re just saying hey there are players that are available we’ll get them for free and we’ll get a pick on top of that so for St Louis it’s a tidy piece of business if you’re a fan of the S if you’re a fan of the Stars let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about these two players mat Joseph and Ric faxa what do you think they’ll be able to accomplish on their new teams let me know your thoughts in the comments section below how do you feel about these two trades I hope you enjoyed this V as99 and bye

  1. The Issue with Joseph is he put up half those points in the first 20 games and then went cold the rest of the season, they need consistency and cap space.
