The Carolina Panthers Worst Days Are Behind Them | 2024 NFL Team Previews

the Carolina Panthers finished the 2023 season with a 2-5 record and missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year they had a point difference of minus 180 which was the second worst in franchise history behind the 2010 season in which they finish with the worst record in the league and eventually drafted Cam Newton but unlike the 2011 Draft they did not have the number one pick this year because they traded a future first round pick so they could go up and get quarterback Bryce young with the number one pick in last year’s draft they started the year with a 1- 10 record before firing former head coach Frank Reich and pretty much anything that could have went wrong for the Panthers last year went wrong but the Panthers made a lot of moves this off season and will be a better football team than they were last year and I am a firm believer that the worst days are behind the Carolina Panthers not just because it’s hard to imagine the situation getting worse but you can start to see the vision with how they want to build around Bryce and how they’re going to build around him moving forward with how bad the 2023 season was this year for the Panthers in a lot of ways will resemble how 2022 was for the Jags meaning they have a former number one overall pick whose rookie year was ruined and the question entering the season is how will they bounce back well we’re going to try and answer that in today’s video now let’s begin one of the biggest things with the 2024 Panthers is every team has expectations at are the year and you should not expect the Panthers to win the NFC South and to even win a playoff game like the Jags did back in 2022 but what you should expect to see is a more competitive team and a team that’s in a lot of games the 2023 Panthers had eight double digit losses and obviously the offense was bad last year but they also finished 29th in points allowed per game two and despite the Panthers defense not looking great on paper they lost several players from their defense in agency most notably was linebacker Frankie louu who signed a 3-year $31 million deal with the commanders yorr MOS who signed a 2-year $18 million deal with the 49ers Corner Shaquille Griffin who is now a member of the Vikings and safety Jeremy chin who is also now a commander Frankie louu is going to be a tough player to replace and in 2023 alone he had 125 tackles 11 quarterback Hits 10 tfls and 5 and 1 half sacks that type of production is not something you can just say to sha Thompson or newly acquired linebacker Josie juel and say okay go replace him and especially not the Thompson who is now 30 years old and suffered a broken fibula in week two of the 2023 season now aside from having to replace Frankie louu I was a little disappointed that they traded pass rusher Brian Burns to the Giants along with a fifth round pick and all they received ceed in return was a second round pick and a fifth round pick so excluding the fifth round pick swap it was essentially a second round pick for Brian Burns yes the Giants had to pay him upon him being traded there but that’s the end goal of a former first round pick have them be good enough to eventually pay them top dollar now Panthers fans unfortunately know this and a lot of other fans do too but for those who do not there was an offer at one point in time for Brian Burns from the Rams that was two first round picks and there’s a reason Panthers fans hate former GM Scott fiter but I was a little underwhelmed with what the Panthers received in return for Burns and especially with who they replaced him with they signed pass rusher DJ wanam in free agency to a 2-year 122.5 million deal after wanam played four years in Minnesota now DJ is coming off an eight sack year which is pretty good and hell that’s actually the same amount of sacks Brian Burns just had for the Panthers but as somebody who has watched every snap of his career there’s games where DJ disappears truly and Panthers fans probably remember a play DJ made against his now current team as he had a scoop and score against them last year but there’s games where DJ will go where you do not hear anything from him and there’s also a reason the Panthers only guaranteed 10% of his contract they also signed veteran pass rusher javien Clowney who had a career year with the Ravens last year and led the team in pressures even over defensive tackle Justin matab he tied his career high in sacks with N9 and a half and was a good player for Baltimore in 2023 Clowney is now 31 years old and I thought he would sign a bigger contract than a 2-year $20 million deal and I liked this move for Carolina for what it was I don’t like the idea of solely relying on Clowney to have back-to- back 70 pressure seasons and for him to have the first double digit sack season of his career in year 11 I thought the javian Clowney signing was a lowrisk high reward signing for Carolina and a side note with Clowny and wanam each on the Panthers I thought it was cool that they brought in two former South Carolina Gamecocks to play for the team closest to where they grew up but are wanam and Clowney going to be an Elite pass rushing Duo probably not and that needs to be remembered for Carolina entering the 2024 season they also brought in former first round pass rusher Kayan Chason who has played just under 400 total snaps combined in the previous two seasons obviously I wouldn’t expect a whole lot out of Chas on but he will be just 25 years old at the start of the 2024 season and that is worth noting I have my concerns with the Panthers pass rush and secondary this year but one part of the Panthers defense I am looking forward to is is their run defense now when you have eight double digit losses and you finish the year with a 2 and 15 record teams are going to run the football on you really by default because of how the game is being played more often than not when a team is up by 17 points in the fourth quarter they’re not going to run for verticals and risk incomplete passes when they can run out the clock and move on to next week due in large part to this Carolina finished 28th in rushing attempts against because that’s how a lot of their games were played but the Silver Lining within this is they finished 12th in yards per carry allowed a lot of that can be attributed to one of the most underrated players in all of football in defensive tackle Derek Brown Derek is a unit at 6’5 320 lbs and actually set a record last year which was for the most total tackles by a defensive tackle in a single season and he was also named to the Pro Bowl and this isn’t a Pro Bowl mean nothing this was a legit Pro Bowl by Derek Brown they also signed asan Robinson to a three-year deal this offseason who should help with the run defense as well ason is a bull at 64 330 and having to move that much mass for opposing offensive linemen is not a fun situation for well anyone and again the panthers run defense was pretty solid last year it’s just that they were in a lot of bad situations one of the reasons reasons Carolina didn’t succeed last year aside from the obvious was they only forced 11 turnovers in 17 games which ranked last and when you can’t create turnovers for a team that was struggling in the worst way offensively well you’re not going to win many games and there was a reason Carolina’s two wins were by a combined four points they couldn’t move the ball offensively and while the defense wasn’t getting as gashed as much as you may think they weren’t creating a turnover a game to put them in plus field position position or to really help the offense out the Panthers defense actually finished fourth in yards allowed in 2023 which to be completely honest I was surprised to find out as much as I like Panthers defensive coordinator aerro iivo I have concerns with this unit in 2024 due to the Personnel I like JC horn and he is a very good player when healthy but unfortunately JC has played in just 22 of 51 possible games through the first three years of his career and has only played in Eight games in a season Once so at this point while I and I would assume everyone for that matter Wishes the best for JC he can’t be counted on as a good player that’s going to show up week in and week out I would love for him to show the player he was in 2022 for a full 17 Game season this year but aside from JC they have Corner danne Jackson who they signed from Buffalo this past off season DNE is okay as a corner but he’s really nothing to write home about he’s a former seventh round pick still in the league and he’s had a good career for himself but DNE doesn’t strike fear in opposing receivers after that it’s thin at the corner position and fast DiCaprio ble is in fact a real player on the Panthers roster and he played in 15 career games after being an undrafted free agent back in 2021 they also have Deshawn Jameson who was an undrafted player from Texas last year and then have Willie Drew and the corner Lamar Jackson so if JC horn goes down I genuinely do not know what they’re going to do at corner this year and I worry a lot about the secondary with how solid I think the panthers run defense is going to be I think there’s going to be games where opposing teams start out with nine of their first 10 plays being passes aerro iivo will certainly have his work cut out for him with the Personnel on this defense which is a tremendous understatement now for the 2024 Panthers offense I don’t know how you can’t be anything but optimistic heading into this season the leading receivers on this team last year were a 33-year-old Adam thielen DJ CH who is no longer on the roster Jonathan Mingo Tommy Trumble and chuba hubard and I simply asked the question of how many quarterbacks in NFL history would have succeeded with that specific Supporting Cast last year and by by the way it’s not like the offensive line was giving Bryce young five or six seconds per play every play so that it gave those guys time to get open there were multiple times throughout every game where you could screenshot where an offensive lineman was on his back or on his rear end looking up to see how bad Bryce young was going to get drilled on a single play and it was extremely extremely frustrating to watch not just on tape but I’m sure it was extremely frustrating for Bryce to go through a literal season of hell now for the 2024 Panthers offense and for the future of Bryce young this whole you know can Bryce sustain a season can he sustain a full 17 Game season is he going to be durable enough where do those questions come from did did we not just watch the same season where Bryce young was sacked the second most amount of times in the NFL behind only the commander Sam how I don’t have any questions surrounding Bryce Young’s durability for not just 2024 and what should be improved offensive line play but for the remainder of his career now the reality is if an offensive lineman misses a block and you have a 255 or 265lb Edge rusher running full speed at Bryce young or any other quarterback you’re not going to want to see that happen and and that chances are that’s going to happen at least once throughout a 17 Game season where a guy comes completely untouched but for the amount of hits Bryce young sustained last year and the amount of sacks he took which again was over 60 this whole Bryce young isn’t going to be able to stay healthy that’s another narrative that I do not agree with even in the slightest not only that but think about where the Panthers roster is now specifically on the offensive side of the ball compared to where it was in week 18 of the regular season just six months ago whether the quarterback is Bryce young you know one of the smaller quarterbacks we have in today’s NFL or whether it’s Josh Allen or Anthony Richardson two of the bigger quarterbacks we have in today’s NFL the reality is no quarterback wants to deal with a dominating interior pass rush so what did the Panthers do this offseason to ensure that Bryce young does not have to endure a season of hell again like he did during his rookie year they spent over $150 million on guard play by adding Robert hunt and Damen Lewis in free agency one of my favorite moves that any team made for the cost was when the Panthers acquired Deontay Johnson from the Steelers they traded a corner and a sixth round pick for Deonte and a seventh round pick and when you have as bad of a situation as Bryce young had in his rookie year getting a guy like Deontay Johnson for that low of a cost to the franchise is an extreme win for the Carolina Panthers I also love the fact that they brought in Xavier Legette in the first round and now they have a few types of receivers on the roster rather than just one 33-year-old receiver and a bunch of hodge podge guys that simply weren’t very good for the Panthers last year I also like the fact they brought in Jonathan Brooks in the second round who I think will be a very good running back by season’s end and I thought one of the better value picks on day three of the 2024 draft was when they drafted Texas tight end jaavi and Sanders so by bringing in Legette Brooks and Sanders in the 2024 draft along with adding hunt Lewis and Johnson through free agency and a trade I thought the Panthers substantially upgraded their roster from where they were 6 months ago to where we are today one other big thing to get excited about with the 2024 Panthers offense is under Frank Reich in the 11 games he coached for them last year the Panthers averaged just 92 yards rushing per game as a team and in the six games he did not coach they averaged 125 yards per game now I don’t know why the lack of being able to run the football carried over from the 2022 Colts to the 2023 Panthers with Reich because there were earlier points in reich’s career where teams dominated by running the football specifically back in 2018 with the Colts so I don’t know what’s transpired over the past few years and why all of a sudden Frank Reich teams can’t run the football like they used to but the point is with Dave Canales who I do believe is a good offensive-minded head coach I can’t imagine the results aren’t similar to what they were down the stretch of the 2023 season with again what should be an improved offensive line now now for as excited as I am for head coach Dave Canalis and the rest of the 2024 Panthers let’s not get carried away and say this is a top eight or 10 or 12 offense because it’s probably not going to be and in fact I’d be extremely surprised if it was what has to be remembered is 2024 is about salvaging Bryce Young’s career and about the progression of Bryce young so we can actually see what he can be as an NFL quarterback because what was thrown out there for the 2023 Panthers aside from a couple of players offensively was bad and there’s no real way to evaluate Bryce Young when everything around him was as bad as it was last year so by adding all of the improvements that the Panthers made whether it was the running back room the receiver room the offensive line the coaching staff that is what 2024 is about for Carolina the Improvement of quarterback Bryce young I was eager to see where Xavier leg would end up and I think Carolina is a great landing spot for him now Xavier is not the route Runner Adam thielen was four or five years ago and he’s not the route Runner Deontay Johnson currently is but that’s fine and I think each player will help teach Xavier some tricks of the trade and early on Xavier will be kind of a gadget player but that’s fine because of how great of an athlete he is whether it’s slant screens drag routes quick routes whatever the case may be I think Xavier will be a productive player for the Panthers in year 1 I think it’ll be around 6 or 700 receiving yards and build on that in year two I really like Jonathan Brooks and the only not even concern I have but question I guess is how long will it take for him to win the starting job because I think he is a lot better than Shuba hubard is currently and I think Jonathan Brooks will be the starter for the Panthers for the next three or four years the only pick I really wasn’t the biggest fan of for the Panthers top four was linebacker Trev Wallace as I think he’s a bit more reactionary of a linebacker than an instinctive linebacker but again if you walk out of a class with two starters in a receiver and running back at positions you desperately need I’m not going to sit here and kill a third round pick that the Panthers made I also really like jatavian Sanders and I think that has potential to be one of the bigger Steals on day three of the 2024 draft so there is a possibility Carolina walks out with three starters from one class on the offensive side of the ball when they desperately needed to help out their Young quarterback I really like the 2024 Panthers class and I can’t wait to see how they do in year 1 as for their schedule prediction the wins are probably not going to be a lot for this team in 2024 and it would be foolish for me to sit here and say you know what off their buy they’re going to be well rested they play the Chiefs at home they’re going to really show it to Mahomes and they’re going to put up 30 plus points on the chief’s defense I also don’t think they’re going to go into Philly and win or beat the Bengals at home or or any of those things but what 2024 is about for the Panthers is salvaging Bryce young and having a good relationship or showing a good relationship and strides with Dave Canales and Bryce young so that we can actually build on something moving forward and that’s the big thing to remember with the 2024 Panthers is they took all of the right steps with the pieces they had this off season if you want to win projection I think they’re going to be anywhere from 3 to six wins maybe four to seven they’re not going to be a playoff team they’re not going to run the table in the last five weeks of the year and become a nine and8 team and squeaking the door they still have a lot of talent deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball but what they did this offseason on the offensive side of the ball needs to be their game plan for next off season on the defensive side of the ball and I hope at that point that aerro iivo is still in fact the defensive coordinator next year so while the Panthers in 2024 specifically are not going to be a 10- s team or 11-6 team I like a lot of the moves they made this offseason to build for a better tomorrow I hope you enjoyed today’s video and if you did please like And subscribe as only about 39% of people watching are 1. My friends and I, almost daily bring up how we miss blackout. There were so many things we wish theyโ€™ve kept in warzone. Such as grapple guns, sensor darts and the mesh mines. ๐Ÿ˜š๐Ÿ’

  2. Thank you for your hard work and for all the students in all the universities around the country. Free free

  3. bro ty. i haven't even watched the vid yet, but i've been telling people the panthers have the most underrated offseason. they went and solidified the interior oline (chiefs just displayed why its important) got the best back in the draft, w rd 1 talent. then just brought in one of the most high upside receivers in the draft (he's 4/5 for me) and brought in dionte who is a great high floor player. as long as bryce's confidence isn't absolutely shattered, i think they have a legit shot to be a wc team this year, and surprise a lot of people. not too mention they consistently have a good defense, and i think this will hold true even w burns departure.

  4. Panthers fan, Iโ€™d say 6-7 wins is our goal. The big thing is if Bryce trends up to being serviceable enough, we can compete.

  5. I'm shocked the Panthers got Dicaprio Bootle from the Chiefs. I begged him to make the roster every year because his name was awesome, but I guess it was never meant to be.

  6. PFFFFFTT!! "Having an unblocked lineman hit Bryce Young is likely to happen once this year?!??" Then you, Sir need to explain to me how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiiK21VzI_o&t=1387s isn't worthy of you doing a Full Video on, how many times the Bears' o-line allows defenders through COMPLETELY unblocked. How, if "once a year" is normal does everyone look at the Bears doing what they do in that 1st 23 minutes alone as 'normal?' Especially the play at 22:45.
How does everyone turn a blind eye to that?

  7. Great video, im a panthers fan and my hope is for around 5 wins. the most important thing i want to see is bryce young improving tho, if we only win 3 but bryce looks solid and just shows improvements (not be tom brady just good improvement) then thats a w imo

  8. Carolina really shouldโ€™ve tried to acquire Aiyuk, him and Diontae Johnson wouldโ€™ve been a great 1-2 for Bryce with Thielen as a 3. But thatโ€™s what having no draft capital does to a franchise
