Giants News, Rumors After Hard Knocks Episode 1 on Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, Joe Schoen

Hard Knocks episode one the off season with the New York Giants was revealed last night there was a lot of Juicy stuff that came out of it we saw Joe Shane negotiating with saquan Barkley also trying to get that deal done with Brian Burns and he shared his thoughts on Daniel Jones which we’re going to dive into in a second but first I want to hear from you what was your one word reaction to episode one be colorful be creative as you always are jump down in the comments section and let me know you’re watching Giants Now by chat sports I am your host Marshall Green Let’s dive into it I loved Hard Knock episode one I thought it was awesome I’d give it an A+ I mean look if you’re a Giants fan I don’t see how you didn’t love it maybe if you’re not a Giants fan you’re not all that interested but we got a peek behind the curtain we got to see a lot of O’s fall but my number one takeaway was that John Mara wanted squant Barkley back with the New York Giants and as we know saquon Barkley is not back with the New York Giants so for all the people out there that says mea makes the decisions he runs the show doesn’t seem like that is the way that this organization is being run at this point Mara said this to Joe Shane in one of their face-to-face conversations that in a perfect world I’d still like saquan Barkley back until I know that we can have a competent offense without him and you know what Joe Shane did he let Sequon Barkley walk in NFL free agency it is apparent that this is Joe Shane’s football team this is not yes it is John Mara’s team he is the owner of the New York Giants but the decisions that are made on a day in and day out basis they come from the general manager of this football team and I was happy to see that first of all I was a little up upset that I didn’t think I’d be getting upset watching Hard Knocks for the offseason that mea still believes that saquan Barkley was the face of this organization and this will lead us to our next point there was a front office meeting of all the decision makers for the New York Giants and one of the decision makers Tim McDonald I believe his name is asked Joe Shane what is our identity without saquan Barkley and my response to McDonald would be this what is our identity with saquon Barkley you were one of the worst offenses in the NFL last year and the year before and the year before with saquon Barkley on this team so what were you with him you were not explosive you didn’t put up points and you weren’t an effective or efficient offense was Barkley the reason that you had those plays at a very low rate absolutely but let’s not act like the Giants were some automatic offense that was great highflying explosive of putting up a lot of points with Barkley they were bad with him they probably won’t be that good without him so I thought that was interesting and I really love the points that Joe Shane made he’s like look he’s 27 the data tells you that when running backs get to that age when he was speaking to Frank Gore which was an awesome little Peak inside of what the decision-making he said the data tells you that backs after 27 get older He also mentioned that parkley had 900 plus carries at Penn State and you got to start to look at the entire workload of the running back through his Collegiate and NFL career look I appreciate sequan for everything he did but the Giants offense was bad with him I think that’s all you need to know at this point I love what Joe Shane had to say about Daniel Jones multiple times throughout the episode a lot of Giants fans like to Baby Daniel Jones and give him every single excuse and Joe Shane did that a little bit said that if Patrick Mahomes was on the Giants last year with the terrible off line and lack of weapons that even he would have struggled maybe I don’t 100% agree with that but I love this quote from Joe Shane you’re paying the guy $40 million it’s not to hand the ball off to a $1 million back and I want 100% agree with that it is time for Daniel Jones to be the face of this offense he’s supposed to be the gas in the tank you are supposed to deliver and execute and be a great quarterback at $40 million is he that guy I don’t know and it doesn’t sound like Mr Joe Shane knows either listen to this quote this is the year for Daniel the plan all along was to give him a couple of years is he our guy for the next 10 years or do we need to Pivot and you know find somebody else that doesn’t sound like a general manager that believes that Daniel Jones is the guy that’s a general manager that sounds like he hopes Daniel Jones is the guy and I I think at this point when you’re hoping you’re already in a bad spot but what are the Giants going to do cut him and have a dead capit of $40 million the only reasonable time for the Giants to move off of Jones and that contract is this time next season and Daniel Jones he’s got an opportunity this year to show that he should be uh still on this team next season with that 4246 Million Dead cic that he has I also thought it was really interesting the entire front office thoughts on squant Barkley it never really seemed like Joe Shane wanted Barkley back at the price that he wanted and it sounded like he didn’t want to do negotiations this offseason with him when it came to the franchise tag tagging him trading him that never sounded like it was a thing Shane I thought this was funny he said that was 10 years off my life dealing with that and then he quickly said I’ll do it again if it’s best for the organization but it was not good for the entire New York Giants then he went back and forth with other decision makers and they asked him questions and I thought had good answers for him but overall for me it felt like he never really wanted him back cuz he mentioned we got holes on the offensive line we got holes at receiver we got holes at corner and we got holes at pass rusher one of the things that I thought stood out to me was with all those holes and lack of talent at those positions the need for the running back gets pushed down and I love that thought process a wide receiver one is more important than a running back one an interior starting offensive lineman is more important than paying a running back 12 million going out and getting Brian Burns is more important than retaining saquan Barkley which they would have done a little bit more in the safety and quarterback room but you can’t fix an entire team in one season I also just want to take a little Victory lap real quick we’re taking a little Victory lap because everybody told me on Twitter that Marshall you don’t know anything you don’t have any sources the Giants were never interested in Josh Jacobs and last night ding ding ding Marshall where Marsh was right the Giants organization told you that they thought Josh Jacobs would get paid more than Squan Barkley why would they say that if they didn’t have interest in it and at the end of the video Joe Shane mentioned six running backs he was interested in free agency and I think Joshua Jacobs was mentioned so for all the people that chatport doesn’t have any sources chatport suck it suck it Josh Jacobs always always was a player of interest for the New York Giants I also thought Chris rotti Rosati apologize if I’m so pronouncing his name wrong he was a star of episode one he went back and forth with Joe Shane talking about what do you think’s going to happen with saquon Barkley and free agency and Joe Shane which I don’t always love likes to act like he is the smartest guy in the room and I thought he tried to Big Time Chris a little bit where he was like you think A team out there is going to pay saquon Barkley $12 million what team and he said a team that’s got C space and he mentioned the Philadelphia Eagles and he ended up signing with the birds and Philly I thought he made a lot of good points he is a major part of the discussions when trying to make Personnel decisions he’s the director of pro scouting I like that this guy’s a part of this organization and I thought he was a major star in episode one I also thought it was interesting the way Brian dable told Joe Shane that they were hiring Shane Bowen as the defensive coordinator he like walked by him in the hallway and he’s like come here come here and then he went in his office and he looked around then he closed the door and dve was like we’re going to hire Shane and then Joe Shane was like Shane Bowen it’s like who else are we going to hire that has the name Shane as the defensive coordinator and then he went into his reasonings and talking about why he hired him and it was just weird because you would think that the stuff that Brian D told Joe Shane as the reason he hired him would have already been discussed maybe that was just a little improv meeting that way Hard Knocks could have an inside look at it but a lot of the reasons that dble mentioned that he hired Joe Shane was because of the run defense and um I love it I love it and Brian dble he absolutely hates wink marale that was apparent the moment he started talking about Shane Bowen he said can we get our run defense like that he is one Petty mfer he doesn’t forget dble and wink they do not like each other D mentioned multiple statistics as to why he hired Shane Bowen and a lot of them were because of his run defense his third down defense his first down defense and his red zone defense where the Titans over the last couple of years where Bowen was the defensive coordinator was at the top of the league I also love the inside look that we got in those Brian Burns negotiations as Joe Shane and the general manager for the Carolina Panthers they’re actually best friends and they started working or the general manager for the Panthers was a player for the Panthers while Joe Shane was a Assistant Scout and they got to grow together and their families grew close and things of that nature and you got this moment right here where the general manager for the Panthers said to Joe Shane you want to give us two ones for burns it literally was like your friends that you hang out with talking about making trades in fantasy football that’s how they were doing it when they were trying to make a big time trade for burns it was like yo you’re trying to come up to six nah trying to give us two first for burns nah how about a one and something Jo Shane’s like we’re getting a little bit closer I think this was more so just some friendly banter and poking at each other of good friends but maybe this was the start of the Brian Burns negotiations and the fact that it maybe was wanted two first round picks for him and all Joe Shane had to give was a second and a fifth round pick swap uh I think the Giants were major winners in that deal overall Hard Knocks was awesome and I am pumped up for episode 2 the little teaser trailer that they had for that was awesome we’re going to get to see some more stuff with sequum Barkley in the negotiations I think they’re going to focus on the combine in episode two I think it’s going to go in chronological order as well I am pumped up for it have never gotten to see the Giants on hard knucks and I actually think this stuff might be better than the training camp stuff if you’re pumped up for episode two and you want us to continue to do updates and News videos like 2. I couldn’t watch but Joe sounds like he knows what he’s doing. He knows the Jones Contract isn’t great at the moment.

    In Joe we Trust

  4. I need some of Marshall’s Daniel Jones hate to make its way into our front office. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY SEE IN THIS GUY.

My one word reaction after last night: EMBARRASSED

  5. Gotta use common sense with the J. Jacobs thing. Schoen believed he'd get more money than Saquon and also said they didn't want a $40mil QB handing it off to a $12mil RB. So on what planet would they have serious interest in a guy he thought would be making more than Barkley?

  6. Very interesting. As someone said in another podcast, Joe Schoen was never going to resign Barkley, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, Gale Sayers. Mostly because of the Daniel Jones contract but also other positions.
