LATEST Bengals Cut Candidates Prior To Training Camp Ft. Chris Evans, Jackson Carman & Zach Carter

[Music] Tom Downey here for Bengals breakdown you will see and hear from Stone shields in just a little bit Today’s Show we’re taking a look at the Bengals cut candidate some of the top notable names before Camp gets going now look the Bengals are going to cut people that’s how the NFL works when he gets a roster cut down time do not miss any Bengals news when news happens we have you guys covered especially with stone taking over fulltime as the Bengals breakdown host so what you want to do is once you subscribed click the Bell where you first subbed change your notification setting from personalized to all if it’s personalized you might not get a push every time when it’s set to all you will and only about 133% of you have actually done that so change those noties to all so you don’t miss anything here on Bengals breakdown first up on the cut canid it’s trying to focus more on names you’ve heard that are also realistic right Chris Evans the running back is first up Stone’s a fan of his game and he does showcase pass catching ability I think there’s some untapped turn value mixed in there as well over the course of his career he’s got 19 carries and 19 catches and the difference in what he’s done with those carries vers touches is startling only a 100 yards more three total scores but he’s only always kind of just survived on the roster and I think it’s fair to wonder how many backs the Bengals will carry if there could be another addition coming down the pipeline as well Evans played just eight games last year he had two carries for 12 yards trayon Williams had a very nice 69 total yards also only had 15 carries I think both these guys frankly are potential cut candidates maybe they keep one of them maybe they add somebody else and keep none go with three backs on the roster there’s some position flexibility there the Bengals will save or would save I should say 1.06 million dollars if they were to cut Chris Evans now that number gets negated a little bit because you’re keeping somebody else on the roster maybe they make the vet minimum which is under a million bucks so it’s not massive savings but it is savings for a team that is up against the the cap with the way they choose to spend what matters a lot here by the way is special teams kickoff return rules are changing I think someone with vision probably matters a little bit more than just putting your fastest guy back there and maybe the way you would do in Madden if of those guys Williams or Evans carves out a kick returner role they’re going to make the team they’ll be rb3 maybe they won’t even be an rb4 but if guys like Chase Brown and Chris Evans or and Charlie Jones can handle it you need them maybe they look for someone more in the true somaj P Ryan whether that’s him or somebody else altogether so predictions will Chris Evans get cut by the Bengals y for yes n for no head down there and let me know in the at the pin comment of today’s show next up is tight end Tanner Hutson we kind of mentioned on a recent video by the way with with what his potential future looks like in Cincinnati a lot of this comes down to the numbers game at the tight end position how that all gets situated Hudson emerged last year as someone who could actually catch the football in maybe a way uh IRB Smith wasn’t always able to execute and do from that perspective the Bengals though added a new tight end one that is Mike giki he is set he is going to be your starter Dre stample can block giki and Hudson’s roles kind of overlap how do things get squared away with Eric all and Tanner mclin that’s five TI ends they’re not going to carry five I don’t think now maybe they carry four maybe they do carry five if they think Eric Go’s close to being healthy and will be ready as the season goes along because they really liked him coming out of Iowa they think he can be a long-term piece for them the role for Hudson gets a little bit thin now the one thing working Hudson’s favor he’s super cheap you ain’t paying him anything you save less than a million dollars if you cut him that’s not really Savings in terms of how it impacts your salary cap so he could very well make the roster let’s bring on now here in just a second Stone Shields to have some more conversation about the tight end situation Stone how do you feel about the tight end room overall yeah so I mean you look at the the room as it is right now you probably think the Bengals are going to keep probably four guys right and obviously you said giki is going to be one of them and I think um sample’s certainly going to be one of them as well so at that point you’re either saying do we do uh Drew s or excuse me Tanner Hudson and then one of the rookies or do we have to move on from either sample or Hudson and maybe make room for both the rookies that they drafted on the roster obviously they took Eric all before Tanner mclin maybe a bit of a controversial take here but I might think Tanner McLaughlin’s a little bit better than Eric all but um that’s kind of where I stand right now obviously gaseki is your main guy he’s going to be the guy that Bengals go to a lot red zone is going to be a great spot for him Big Frame uh for Joe burough I’m really excited about that but um we talked about it before that tight end two spot there’s certainly going to be competition there throughout training camp and really looking forward to see how that pans out do you think that Hudson will make this team in the end I do yes I really liked what I saw out of Tanner Hudson last year I feel like they got more uction out of that position when they went to him more obviously we know you know ever since Hayden Hurst left it the Bengals that tight end spot they haven’t really been able to find production out of it I thought Tanner Hudson showed some good things last year throughout the season and I feel pretty confident that he will make the team and be uh in that tight end room for Cincinnati how do you feel overall about the investment level in the tight end group do you think that there’s been enough with ciki and some draft picks or do you still want to do more I think for now for this year it’s enough obviously when you look at the whole room all those guys are on one-year deals and then of course the two that they just drafted so at some point you’re going to look to go to that position in more of a long-term deal maybe that’s what the Bengals hope Eric all can bring to the table but um yeah I’m fine with how it is right now that’s just kind of you know gaseki you know he was good in Miami and then he goes to New England obviously we know what kind of quarterback Carell they had going on in New England so you know that’s why he’s probably only on a one-year deal he’s still got to prove that he can still be that guy that he was in Miami and I think he’ll have an opportunity to do that in Cincinnati and if the Bengals you know if he has a good year and the Bengals are willing to pay him maybe he sticks around long term but I think that’s why you saw them allocate some sources to that position in the draft because they really believe that you know either Eric all probably or perhaps Tanner mclin can fill that role for the Bengals more long term right you guys will hear more from Stone Shields throughout this offseason pre-season into the regular season he is going to be the full-time host as we’ mentioned previously uh we just don’t have the producer today or this week so it’s I can’t produce so I’m on Aaron Stone behind but we brought him on cuz he’s going to be the full-time host here at Bengals breakdown if you want more Bengals coverage join our team here hit that sub button for free youtube.com/ Bengals TV next up the offensive lineman is Jackson Carman who I think this one will probably go over pretty well because I’m over the Jackson Carman experiment um I get he’s local this hasn’t gone well there’s no way around it when he’s had chances to play it hasn’t been that great the Bengals spent a second round pick on him they’ve kept him on the roster he has yet to prove himself worthy of that he got beat out by Cody Ford and others last year is he a tackle is he a guard I still don’t really know there’s so much depth on this Bengals offensive line that is he is he going to play left tackle he can’t play left tle play left guard I don’t think so I just I I see six locks guaranteed locks right Brown Volson Carris Kappa Brown Mims there’s six I think Cody Ford is going to make not guaranteed roster wise I think he makes a team there’s seven I a big fan of Matt Lee I’d make him my eighth I’m taking Deontay Smith over Jackson Carmen right now and I’d also save more money by cutting Carman $1.39 million in savings not an insignificant amount not a massive amount but noteworthy I think it’s time to to move on and give up on the Jackson Carmen hope dream whatever you want to call it now maybe you even get lucky and maybe because of the level of investment put into Jackson Carman as a draft pick as a top 50 pick someone says Ah we’ll trade for him now maybe all you get is a different you know bus player back or a future seventh better than nothing still save plenty of money in the end as well so will Jackson Carmen get cut by the Bengals one for yes he’s done zero for no he’s going to stick around another relatively high draft pick on list is Zachary Carter the defensive tackle you know L rumos hyped up Joseph asaiah as a piece that that could still be a huge part of the Bengals defense you know who they haven’t hyped up is Zachary Carter and I’m a big believer in sometimes not always one to one trying to match and identify what the Bengals moves are and teams moves are for how they feel about players Carter last year DJ reer goes down gets a chance where was he how many times did we mention Zack or to say ah big play by Zack her did anyone do in the games mention that one time maybe the the the the forc fumble play right that that was like it look at what the Bengals moves were along the defensive line they kept BJ Hill rankings is in for DJ reer and so is McKinley Jackson McKinley Jackson’s your nose guard there but they drafted McKinley Jackson and Chris Jenkins top 100 picks they have a top 100 pick in Zachary Carter on the roster he’s at best defensive lineman five and maybe they want someone like a J TF to be a bit of a bigger run stopper as well I think when they took when they signed rankins and drafted Jenkins and drafted Jackson when they were replacing one guy up front that’s a bad sign for Zachary Carter the Bengals would save $1.17 million with a release I I think the Bengals barring a shocking development from Zachary Carter have invested in other players instead of him Chris Jenkins rankins Etc they’re just going to move on and I I I would be kind of surprised I think in a positive way unless there’s a bunch of injuries if Carter is on this team in 2024 so name a player who you think ends up being a Bengals cut candidate let me know in the comments of today’s show let’s go to corner here that’s Jaylen Davis who’s kind of hung around the roster as kind of a backup nickel player behind Mike Hilton he’s 510 190 he had five tackles last year a pass breakup he’s been able to get on the field but I think that the numbers gain now exists at corner probably doesn’t bode that well for Davis now the Bengals would save 1.15 million bucks with the cut again we’re not talking massive savings here it probably ends up being less than half million dollars once you keep somebody else who’s cheaper on the active roster maybe barely even a quarter of a million dollars but think about the numbers game right cam tother Brits not going anywhere DJ Turner is going to make this team Mike Hilton’s going to make this team Daxton Hills a corner he’s going to make this team Josh Newton’s making it at cb5 I don’t know if they carry six and if they do carry six it might be an outside guy like DJ Ivy Allen George because Dax Hill and DJ Turner can move inside to the nickel and if they move on from Hilton next year or if they just bring him back which I’d be down with by the way Turner or Hill can play nickel I still kind of think that might be their best spot that bumps Jaylen Davis down the wrong way on the active roster although he could still be a prime practice squad candidate [Music]

  1. Cut Sample not hudson.atleast Hudson showed flashes last year. Sample has just been a backup every year. Doesn't seem to be able to make the jump to TE1
