Unless they’re going to fold this into the Mikal deal, the path to avoiding the hard cap at the first apron gets a little trickier. If they’re not retaining Precious they could fold that into a sign and trade but as of now, he appears to be the best backup big option. Short of trading Deuce or Dadiet, that leaves one option which is to sign one of the second round picks to a deal slightly higher than the minimum and include them. So I wouldn’t get too attached to Hukporti or McCullar.
Edit: They can’t actually fold this into the Mikal deal because it’s only a 1 year deal
Now we know at least one random bench player that will score their career high in MSG next year.

Fuck Pat Riley & Fuck Miami, I hope they have a miserable season, but I hope he can at least get his game going, put up his points & have a nice spell for himself over there.
He’s had his ups and downs over here, the point guard experiment was a disaster and he struggled to make an impact after coming back via trade, but I’ll always be fond of him for the season he had when we got the 4th seed, and his efforts in the playoffs vs Atlanta & Indiana. King of the fourth, Big Money AB!
A sign and trade was super unlikely, because a team would have to give him 3 years. The work around would be 2 non guaranteed years. But that doesn’t really benefit Burks at all, since if he has a good year he would be stuck for 2 more years at a team friendly rate.
