Barrios is our #21 prospect hitting .325/.367/.429 in high-A ball. Considering we have a pretty solid group of middle-infield prospects this seems like a no-brainer to get some more pitching depth
Don’t mind this at all. Barrios was playing well for the TRats but was bad last year and only has 2 career minor league homers in 1000+ PAs. Rays player development is obviously tremendous but I’d be very surprised if he ever becomes better than a passable big-league utility infielder. Really hard to be great when you have so little power.
Looks as if Civale has one more year of Arbitration left, so Barrios for a year and a half of a serviceable starter…good deal.
A guy outside the top 20 seems about right, I guess?
Barrios is young and doing pretty well in high A, but others have pointed out the limitations in power and also that he doesn’t draw walks either. I’m not sure about the defensive profile.
Civale has an extra year of control that will be nice if he turns it around here.
Odd that he got worse when he got to Tampa after his Cleveland years, but has some general inconsistency anyway. He his now about to be on his 3rd team known for pitching development. Interesting how this will work out.
Worth mentioning that Civale was a hot commodity at the last trade deadline and commanded Kyle Manzardo as a return.
This is a great buy low candidate with a year and a half of control. Barrios has hit well this year but with the lack of power and young infielders being a position of strength of the Brewers, this is an absolute no brainer deal.
This guy is 29 and he has a 5.07 ERA…I get that we have enough infielders but he’s a top 30 prospect
Anyone happen to know the record for most starting pitchers used by a team in one season? 🤣
Civale is 29, and he has a bunch of years in his career with a FIP in the area of 3.50-4. Can we fix him? I dunno, but our #21 prospect who’s about sixth in line in the infield is a pretty acceptable price to me. If we can get him to go five innings every few days without getting crushed I’ll call it a win
I wonder if this pushes Wilson back into the bullpen where he honestly is better off in the long run and move Payamps down in the pecking order coming out of the pen.
Rotation now looking like Freddy / Rea / Civale / Keuchel / Myer
I don’t really like this trade but I hope it works out
Hey, folks. It’s me again, that one non-Brewers fan that watches a lot of Brewers games. Great pickup! You guys had a clear need and went out and got it while everyone’s still twiddling their thumbs. I feel you guys got ahead of the curve and it will end up paying dividends for you in the long run.
