Will Smith on Getting Bigger, Throwing Better 1st Pitch Than Celebrini
second second time back here I mean from last year to this year obviously adding Macklin and just the hyper on the team what is your feeling just the difference of last year’s development camp this year yeah I mean it’s uh it’s pretty exciting around here I mean it’s kind of a buzz going around so uh it’s pretty cool and it’s fun to be a part of obviously you you signed your entry level you’re going to turn pro what went on behind that decision obviously you know looks like Gabe and Ryan are going to go back to BC how come you decided to turn BR yeah I mean it was it was pretty tough for me um obviously leaving all my buddies and uh my hometown is uh pretty tough but um talk to the organization a lot and um talk to Mike a lot it was uh pretty tough decision but I thought it was best one for me and my development as a player I was in PCB you big rival raid you and mlin Aren’t skating in the same group but I’m sure you guys have had some Runnings together conversations off the ice how well do you know him off the ice and just how cool is it that you guys are on the same team now yeah it’s uh it’s pretty crazy but uh I mean we’re roommates at the hotel so uh we’re around each other pretty much uh all day when we get back so it’s uh it’s pretty fun to be around each other and obious get to know them as we’re good be teammates here and speaking of that R rivalry who threw a better first pitch yesterday me I threw some gas you touched 70 there 80 um one thing that people have said about you so far in Camp is that you definitely look bigger stronger can you talk about that just how much uh the gains that you’ve made in the weight room how many more pounds are you right now yeah I mean uh been eating a lot so uh trying to you know be consistent with that and be in the gym a lot so um I’ll probably be up around eight or 10 pounds um by the time I get here and uh Ian it’s going to be huge for my game has there been any particular changes to your diet you’ve made big time um like I said just got to be consistent and um I talking to different different people and trainers about what I got to eat and um you saw my food schedule it’s uh pretty intense and uh yeah my mom helps me a lot with that what are your expectations for next season obviously you’re eligible for the AHL the goal is to make the NHL has there been any discussion of what you know they’re kind what the sharks are kind of looking for you to do to start next season yeah I mean we’ve we’ve discussed it I mean it’s kind of between us but um I mean obviously I have my expectations as a player and um goals but obviously the goal is to make the team and um be a huge contributor looks like you and musty kind of have some camaraderie going on obviously both were first round picks last season did you guys stay in touch throughout the season at all I mean obviously you met each other at development camp and you played in Sudbury but I mean there kind of connection you guys kept on through there yeah we’re good buddies I mean uh we hang out a lot and he’s a funny guy so it’s uh pretty fun to be on him and I mean at the hotel we’re always hanging out too so it’s uh it’s pretty fun and speaking of that uh kind of your uh eating regimen what’s something different that you’re eating now that maybe you weren’t eating 10 pounds ago um I mean honestly it’s just more you got to eat more um you know get the protein shakes in it’s um not about kind of it’s about what you’re eating but it’s a timing of it too so um I mean just kind of have to plan out your days more in the summer and um like I said you got to be consistent or the pound won’t come on do you feel stronger on the ice now compared to say the end of the season definitely um some people say I look a little taller so that’s oh oh just one more sorry uh what’s your impression of Sam Dickinson playing against him since you’re in the same group and you know obviously first round pick of the Sharks he’s a big boy I mean uh I didn’t know how big he was going to be but um obviously can he can skate pretty too pretty good too so um what I’ve seen so far has been pretty legit and um it’s pretty exciting thanks
