[Florio]: “Giants discussed pursuing Chris Jones, Christian Wilkins in free agency”

"As to Jones, director of pro scouting Chris Rossetti says this, 'Future Hall of Fame player. Still game-wrecking talent. Makes football look easy at times. When he’s dialed in, playing within the scheme and he’s unblockable, it’s hard not to imagine the good things that would come with him and Dex together in the middle. They’re the two best defensive tackles in football. You watch the tape and you see Chris Jones getting double-teamed every snap, and the guy on the other just having one block. You just imagine that’s Dex with one guy on him every time. You know, the possibilities, the game-wrecking capability is there. Financially, is it possible where we’re at? You’re looking at like a $35 million cap hit next year.'"

Sounds like the Giants were very high on Jones and likely would have been one of the teams vying to snap him up if we let him hit free agency (with for sure enough cap space to outbid us). Good thing we locked him up while we still could: that contract is worth it for the best defensive tackle in the NFL.

  1. or they knew hbo were filming and wanted to make some content…

because florio pulled this straight from hard knocks and not his ass like he usually does.

  2. Pretty sure all front offices discuss upcoming free agents and their fits.

In the clip, even, it went to Brian Burns next on their slide which indicated they were talking about all defensive free agents.

  3. I mean, if Chris didn’t sign with us there was only a small handful of teams that could afford him and stay under cap.

I’m still confident if he left us he’d of gone to Houston Texans, but we’ll never know cause he’s a fucking Chief for Life.

  4. All big money contracts come with a risk of not working out. I think this was the right choice for the Chiefs, though.

Chris produces every year, helps every other player on the DL by getting all of the attention, and has been durable. I would much rather spend the big money on him than a high-priced WR that a Sneed-like CB could shut down.
