This is HUGE for the Leafs…

this is huge for the Toronto Maple Leafs as the assistant GM for Player Development has come out and revealed the Toronto Maple Leafs plans for een Cowen this upcoming season and what she had to say may just shock you is it seems that e Cowan could have a big role going forward for the Tonto map le as soon as this season so to break that down and discuss what it means going forward for the rest of Brader livings free agency plans because they decide to run with Easton Cowan that could change what their mindset is going forward over the next several weeks and months so stay tuned for all that for you all but there is a lot to go over today and some interesting surprising comments regarding e cow and we’ve been discussing e Cowan for a while on this channel and quite frankly we both kind of agreed he might get a few games this season but we didn’t think he was going to be ready to play in the NHL despite his historic year last year seems like that might not be the case after all let’s just dive right into it you can see the development camp roster a lot of stuff is going on with the prospects which is cool we also saw Danford who will get into a little bit as well take the ice in yesterday’s um game or yesterday’s practice but Dar I want to start with the quote and just get that out of the way early so this is from Halen wikenheiser and she again is the uh the Player Development assistant GM so it says he’s going to make a push always heard to take that jump from Junior that’s a big step but he’s proven everybody wrong at every level so I don’t put it past him and this is referring to Easton Cowen playing in the NHL as soon as this season when it starts in October and a few months from now Darius what is your thoughts on this very surprising that they went out and said this and you can see here it’s very very interesting they have a very interesting Camp they have very interesting players but een Cowen could be starting with the Toronto Maple maybe not at the start of the year but definitely could factor into their plans and if that’s the case it makes a lot of sense going forward as to why maybe they haven’t replaced Tyler bruzi just quite yet yeah I’m not entirely surprised by Easton Cowan right I I don’t think he you know he’s not going to learn anything by going back to Junior that is for sure but he might have to just because of the you know there’s a rule in place or something in place where the NHL uh has to send certain guys back to the CHL so that they don’t lose their star power in their 19-year-old season right so I just don’t think he has anything to learn he should be in the AHL it’s not allowed in the rules right but uh I wouldn’t put it past him either to make the NHL right he really impressed me last preseason like I didn’t think he had that in him and then he went back to Junior and lit the entire league on fire and did something that nobody’s done since Conor McDavid which is pretty good company right so we know everything about the season he had in the OHL he has absolutely nothing to learn by going back I think actually would be pretty apathetic for him to go back like there’s nothing to do there he won the championship right um You you probably get a little bored so I think you know it would be interesting to come this training camp to see where he falls into the lineup right I do think he’s going to get at least nine games or something in that you know where they have before they have to send them back so he’s going to get at least that and if he impresses maybe he stays the whole season right the OHL and the OHL schedule is very close to the NHL than other leagues right in college hockey so he might be ready who knows right the assistant GM certainly thinks that there is a shot right and I wouldn’t put it past him either so it’s going to be interesting I do think that he could use another year of development but again like it’s just a silly rule where he should be in the AHL so it’s a tough situation for the Leafs yeah you can see it here C is quote very close to being ready for the NHL and them saying this means that if he impresses in the preseason he impresses in Camp maybe depending on the the subsequent moves that they made now I still suspect they get another forward but he could be ready to go and they said there’s some other comments here as well like there’s a lot of stuff going on with the prospects but let us know in your in the comments what your thoughts are on E count do you think he is ready for the NHL obviously he’ll get his nine games but like past that do they want to give him more games take a your way of control in exchange for what could be a very very good player and it’s funny you think about a couple years ago or a year ago when he got drafted um and they were basically everyone was like this is a horrible pick way too early and now we’re talking about him at a very young age being ready to be in the NHL and very very close to being in the NHL making an impact on a team that could make a push next season I would be very interested to see kind of what he does under Craig baru as well who is a uh who’s the Lea new coach let us know your thoughts are on that but Darius let’s also touch on Ben Danford now as well because Ben is a very we had a whole video about him he hit the ice yesterday ahead of his first development Camp practice and E cow actually spoke out on Ben Danford he said he blocked a lot of shots not sure what or not sure I’d want to do uh with that or want to do that what Ben Danford did obviously huge defenseman very interesting Prospect going forward and this is another guy probably not the NHL this year but another guy to keep an eye out for I’m liking the way that the development camp roster is really starting to shape uh shape up there’s a lot of different prospects obviously the Leafs have a bunch of different ones what’s your thoughts on Ben Danford and again we had a video on him very intriguing Prospect and one of the one of the great picks yeah there’s a lot to keep an eye on in terms of prospects right like I would keep an eye on kler too just for anyone who’s looking at the roster but anything but anyway sorry uh Ben Danford uh I’m excited for this Prospect too he’s not going to make the NHL this year he’s absolutely going to be back in the OHL with the asua generals but that’s a good thing if you’re a leaf fan in the area too you can go watch this player around Ontario and if you’re close to asosa you can go watch him there so he’s going to be making you know the world tour around uh Ontario this season in the OHL again and he’s a really good defenseman right really really good we talked about him last week in our video um so if you want to go check him out across Ontario next year go do that again he’s not going to make the team but this little snippet of what he’s doing against other prospects in the Leaf’s camp and some of them are older too it’s nice right it’s nice that he’s fitting right in a lot of guys are like whoa he’s doing stuff I certainly wouldn’t do so uh nice little update there for Ben Danford I’m not expecting too much from him this year at all so it’s nice yeah he’s obviously not going to play much different than e County he’s not going to play into the NHL team this year but having a big defenseman that is highly touted is something that the Leafs clearly they made a big push like not only to their blue line adding Chris tanov and all these guys hock and upon these different players oel but also at the draft where they added a bunch of see and the depth signings that we made a video on yesterday they added a lot of defenseman and Brad J living came out when he joined the team and said he wants to add depth and not only depth in the short term but depth in the long term maybe even after he’s gone as well so let us know what your thoughts are on Ben Danford because we’re pretty high on him Darius and we’ll probably be keeping an eye definitely will be keeping an eye on him going forward as he continues to develop and you mention it if you’re in the OSH if you’re in Toronto you can make the trip down and just start to uh to see a player like this and I don’t know keep an eye out for him we said it here first when he makes the NHL and he’s a very good defense and we set it here first you can also see this tweet from the Toronto Maple we have agreed to an affiliation deal this kind of happened last night with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL beginning in the 2024 2025 season so the Leafs partnered up with them a lot of different things going on in the prospect pool in the you know the affiliate team perspective do you have any quick thoughts on this uh yeah so the New Finland ground grounders holded last year right so Leafs needed a new affiliate in the ECHL and they found it here with Cincinnati a little bit of a weird fit and the logo doesn’t really fit in with the Leafs or anything like that so aesthetically it looks kind of weird but anyway it’s nice that the Leafs finally got an affiliate they got that done because we knew that was on the way too because obviously their team folded last year uh so it’s good A lot of the prospects are probably going to be in Cincinnati as well the ones who were eligible for that so nice little partnership there we knew that they had to get something done I think they’re hoping that it’s closer to home like I don’t think they’re going to stick with Cincinnati in the next couple years I think they needed something for this year so they’re going to look at something closer to home in the next couple Seasons I wonder if Miss aaga even gets a team or something right with an open building there but um yeah look for that in the future but again we knew that this was coming and they finally found a partnership so it’s good yeah a lot of things going on a ton of things going on and also one quick thing to note shout out to the two uh goalies that Haley also spoke out on and they’re going to be interesting to see going forward how they can improve because there’s now you’re pretty high in a couple of these guys but that’ll
