Cardinals vs. Pirates Highlights (7/4/24) | MLB Highlights

it is Independence Day in the Berg as the Pittsburgh Pirates conclude their three-game Series against the St Louis Cardinals the all important rubber match of this three- game series on the fourth of July Martin Perez take them out for the 13th time this season and hoping for better things his last timeout certainly didn’t go as well as he would have liked coming off the injured list 31st game leading off for Mason win and it’s a terrific ADV instead of strike three it’s ball four and wins aboard in front of burles to get the game started and Alec burles over the last three has gone four for 11 Merles waiting the pitch tapped back to the mound slowly Perez thinks second called out on a close play Martin Perez is able to get off that mound and didn’t hesitate got the ball in hand and got it on to O’Neal Cruz it’s Wilson conteras who’s the DH today bats in the number three spot swinging the ground ball right to short Cruz on the second there’s one relay two double play 6 43 the Pirates turn two and Perez faces the minimum in the first Andre Palante who’s looking for his second Road win and his first Victory against the Pirates he’s making his first start in his career against him today but cut in a right-handed batter out of the shoot leading off and a shot into Center on comes Carlson he’ll get there with a good jump and Dylan makes the play for out number one here’s Brian Reynolds he swings and it’s a ground ball to Mason win who backand and throws out Reynolds with two outs O’Neal Cruz is coming up swinging a liner pass first and in right base hit burles playing off the line he’ll cut it off the wall and that’ll limit Cruz to a single yeah he hits the ball hard that’s for sure that bat showing signs of life for Conor Joe as well there goes Cruz stolen base for Cruz is seventh on one pitch he’s bounced towards second Fine’s got that and his flip to First first is in plenty of time and Palante Works around a two out single to send us to a second inning with no score two men are out Donovan a lifetime 343 hitter against the Pirates roller hit to the right side race to the bag tles throws a strike and late it pulled Perez off the first base bag Gonzalez was there tles range far to his right and the Cardinals get a two out break as Donovan reaches yeah it appears the foot of Perez was even with the bag but must have just simply missed it here on this one Dylan Carlson with no home runs eight rbi’s batting 196 that’s on the ground and fair pass K Brian Hayes that is going to trickle into the corner there’s a break that’s going to score a run Donovan around third helmet flying throw to the plate is going to be late it gets by grandall and Carlson stands at second the Red Birds cash in the air and take a one- nothing lead well that is huge right there and that’s how you end up beating Perez got to beat him to the spot he’s been pounding the right-handers in got to get the hands in Drive something down the line that’s exactly what Dylan is able to do and it doesn’t care him off that little pony wall it stays out there and able to bring Donovan in on this one two gone for ke Brian Hayes one- nothing Cardinals onew pitch and that is cut on a Miss by krien Hayes pilante has his first strike out and he preserves a one- nothing card the lead as we go to the top of the third two Fly ball outs one hit well one not and Alec burles will bat with two out and nobody on Pirates start the day three back of the Cardinals in the Central and in the wild card and it’s a nice easy in Easy Breezy 1 two three nine pitch inning for Perez knle curve gets the fifth ground ball out for Palante and two her away and now cotch flat out to Center his first time the onew pitch to him is a swing and a miss he strikes out that’s seven straight retired by Palante conteras leads off he bounced into an inning ending double play his first time up this ball driven to right and right center look at that ball rock it toward the wall contas another extra Baye hit and he’s in scoring position it’s the second St Louis double of the game let’s see if Martin Perez can limit his damage and keep him out there on the bases Goldman fouled out to the catcher first time around and taking off for third and the throw is going to get him wow Wilson contras that angle it’s not a slam dunk but no but it it’s it’s not for sure he safe either after view the call stand the runners out St Louis losing their chall oh that is huge and a 1-1 count now on goldshmid and sure enough a base hit to left field so goldshmid has another knock his first of the day is fifth of the series two outs man at second for Donovan who reached on an air by the pitcher Perez two- pitch bounced to First Fair ball along the line for TZ he’ll tag the bag for the out so the Cardinals get two hits to start the inning but cannot score it Reynolds against Andre Palante center field deep Carlson back warning track clear the deck cannon ball coming a topiary Tater for Bay to tie it his 14th fireworks on the fourth of July for sure Second Time Around the lineup Brian Ryle definitely had that fast ball timed up he put a load in it that one a straight away Center one Away Joe ground that out his first time up and he’s going to have himself a base hit with one out bringing up to I like that taking the uh the fast ball the other way two balls in a strike for tles that one Taps slowly toward fine he’ll shovel to win for one the peg to First is in time and tles is doubl up for the Bucko Carlson it’s a ground ball off off the glove of the third baseman Hayes and he redirected the ball into left field Carlon a short lead at first till as sort of holds him the pitch there’s Cruz quick flip on the first double play thank you two outs for Pedro PES called third strike leadoff hit double play strike out halfway mark 1-1 on the fourth first and third nobody out and Wilson conteras is coming up looking for his second hit and Cho toward oh wow they’re going to get two outs and no runs you can’t what a wind stood there at third you have to go home and draw the throw you can’t let the the defense turn two and you’re standing there at third watching that is a huge blunder goldi singled the last time up struck him out looking The Great Escape the top of the sixth inning the Cardinals do not score Joe tles and Gonzalez to bat here in the seventh slow roller tough play ronado bare hand grab throw to first and got his man this is an enormous play you’re late the ball game tight game this leadoff hitter gets on you never know what’s going to happen the barehanded stab throw on the run the great stretch by Goldie to complete the play one out for swinsky ball left center field over is Donovan toward the track approaching the wall can’t make the play and yeah bounces out of play for a book rule double otherwise he’s at third base with one out that’s a a one out triple so huge right now or if it could have been a little bit further to center field that is over the fence a home run but bounced right in the Deep Notch and here is palos the bat for grandal he’ll make his Pirates 24 debut right here and it’s ball four and now Andrew McCutchen is up with the runners go with one out let’s fight out they hold the pitch he struck him out McCutchen couldn’t check his sng and there’s out number two after a long battle and now Reynolds is next he got him KR digs deep and saves the Cardinals in the eighth inning and Colin Holderman will come back in the game his 33rd appearance of the season has a three in one record with a 176 ER swing of to miss he dispatches contus on three pitches one out here’s goldi foul tip struck him out 98 from Holderman two outs on two strikeouts here is Arenado go for three today Q shot toward the first base line Holderman drops the ball and ronado is going to be out at first we see it could not pick up the ball and tag Nolan cleanly then goes with little backhand no look flip the go been overturned the runner is safe that is going to be an infield hit for ronado his first hit of the series and Donovan is coming up next a swing and a drive to right field that ball is going to go off the wall arado streaking to third he’s being held there and he took a wide turn and goes back to the bag into second with a double Donovan so the Cardinals will go to the bench here Matt Carpenter is going to grab a bat and pinch hit one ball two strikes struck him out hold him in fired up heading to the bottom of the ninth looking for some fireworks two down it is Edward olivaris the former Kansas City Royals San Diego Padre PCH hitting for Rowdy tles in the air toward right burles on the run near the line slowing as he gets to the track he leaps and makes the catch and John King with a one two three night sends us two Extra Innings Dennis Anana comes in it’ll be his 29th appearance on the season a two and0 record for the power 711 e swinging a ground ball on toward second late break for Gonzalez he’ll recover and throw on to first for me moves the runner from second to third good work there so it’s up to PES to get him in line drive in left center field that is down and to the wall pus is on his way to Second it’s an RBI double and the Cardinals take a two1 lead oh did we need that what a good at bat that was for PES he comes through and maybe the Cardinals can add some more here don’t see Mason wi strike out a lot but he did there so it’s up to burles if the Cardinals are are going to add to the one-run lead here and Burleson a little flare into shallow left field that’s going to drop and the Cardinals have a two-run lead clutch hit for burles and the Cardinals now lead it 3 to one in the 10 it was a change up up off the plate away and Alec just covers it dumps it into left and drives in another one here in the 10 Pirates Trail three to one here in the 10 and it’ll be Nick Gonzalez to lead it off against King L ball left center field hit pretty deep but looks like he’s going to stay in the yard and it does deepest part of the yard and tagging and going to score all the way to make it a one-run game Michael a Taylor as the uh Donovan and canani were just thrilled to make the catch now not terribly meaningful because the Run scores it’s a one-run game but still makes no difference you don’t see it too often they forgot there was a runner second backto back singles with Andrew McCutchen coming to the plate oh man what a storybook finish this could be on the fourth of July of all people Andrew McCutchen one ball two strikes as the count the next delivery is grounded towards short Mason wi he’s got it flips the second the Cardinals win it John King Andrew kitridge and Andre Palante were magnificent today what a way to celebrate Independence Day in Pittsburgh the

  1. Pained me as a cards fan listening to Buccs announcers fumble their way through the broadcast all day but will take the W. Got to play better sound baseball or else we wont catch the Brewers

  2. The pirates hitting is pathetic, gotta replace that hitting coach and go out and actually sign a few decent hitters, they are wasting some terrific starting pitching.

  3. With a 3-run lead in Tue's win, Marmol goes to Helsley for the 9th -, even though Romero had a clean 10-pitch 8th; then, Helsley is unavailable to pitch on Wed, when the Pirates score 2 in the 10th, for a 1-run win – costing a chance for sweep.

That kind of apparent mis-management is why I can't get enthused about Oli.

  4. Taylor had no business diving for that ball. Keep that batter at first and this game is still going.
Not fielding the ball dribbling down the first baseline…
We don’t have a team to make up for dumb mistakes and mental errors.

  5. I told everyone the Cardinals were winning this series easily. Pittsburgh is a joke. Their season is over it has been over and they are close to last place. Cardinals are on their way to the playoffs and probably a division title. Pretty bad Pittsburgh has to fake an injury to their pitcher. Cardinals should make a play for Skenes and Jones because Pittsburgh won't pay them. Pitiful Pirates.
