The Seattle Seahawks Defense Under Mike Macdonald Will Shock The NFL Because…

[Music] coming up on today’s show we will explain why Mike McDonald’s new defense in Seattle will shock the rest of the National Football League Tyler Jones here with you thanks for joining us before we dive in and give you our analysis a reminder that all month long for the month of July we are in a battle with the Cowboys report to see who can get the most likes on their videos and to give you an update on the scorecard Seahawks today with a slight lead over the Cowboys report 555 to 543 so whatever you do make sure and like today’s video that way we can show who’s boss why we have the best fans in the National Football League and stick it to the Cal girls like the video we’ll get started with today’s show the mission ahead for Mike McDonald as he enters year number one with this Seahawks defense is to make the Seahawks defense great again we’ve seen this defense many years ago have some Legendary Moments and some great teams that they put out there but it has been a minute since the Seahawks defense was competent right and now Mike McDonald you look at this team that he’s handed here there’s some real talent there but they haven’t been able to meet expectations play to their full potential and that is the assignment ahead for Mike McDonald is to get the most out of these guys so what will Mike McDonald’s defensive scheme look like in 2024 well you’re going to see a lot of different things a mix of both the 34 and the 4-3 defenses guys are going to be asked to be versatile to do a multitude of things there’s an emphasis on disruption making life hell for opposing quarterbacks right winning the down every single play matters get as many thre outs as you possibly can a physical mindset this is not going to be a finesse defense this is going to be a defense that wins with their physicality and playing fast look you’re going to have some uptempo offenses that you’re going to play from time to time being a being able to match the speed that you’ll see from the offensive side of the ball from some of these teams is going to be a big key number one the first thing that Mike McDonald has set out to do with this Seahawks defense is to build a wall within the interior of the defensive line and make opposing offenses pay for it look if they’re going to win so much that this team gets bored of winning you’ll never get bored of winning you got to win at the line of scrimmage and Mike McDonald is very aware of that here’s what he said recently on his plans with the defensive line in general we’re trying to build a wall up the middle trying to stay Square trying to set hard edges make the ball bounce outside make them throw the thing outside you don’t want to get gashed up the middle of your defense you’ve got to have the right guys who can play there so you can get the job done and we’ve seen over the last few years that the Seahawks specifically have struggled with stopping the run so the wall that has been installed here in Seattle you have a a great foundational piece with Leonard Williams who just got paid this off season jiren Reed is back draymont Jones we’re going to see playing both defensive end and the outside linebacker position you invested a big brick in Byron Murphy the second out of the University of Texas with your first round pick Jonathan henkins who was coached by ad in Dallas he comes in he’s expected to be a rotational piece and Mike Morris I have high hopes for entering this season as well that he’ll be an impact player for this Seahawks defensive line do you believe in Mike McDonald’s defense are you a Believer or not type B for believe D for don’t Don’t Stop Believing type B in that comment section or pin comment today in show up and show out for Mike McDonald and his new defense in 2024 Seahawks today is miss a moment help us reach our next Milestone of 53,000 Subs here on the channel subscribe now youtube.com/ SE hook TV number two the next task that Mike McDonald needs to do with this Seahawks defense is fixing the secondary and we know there’s some really talented players there when you talk about Deon Witherspoon the former first round pick entering year number two off a pro bowl campaign you got riek Wallen who had a very good rookie season took a step back last year really struggled with tackling he is a fine football player and the expectations are that he’ll bounce back and then you got other options guys like Mike Jackson Trey Brown and those are just the corners right you go to the safety room Julian loves coming off a pro bowl campaign you bring in rayan Jenkins from the Jacksonville Jaguars who I’m very high on what was a unit that was very inconsistent in 2023 the talent is there for it to become a strength for not just this defense but this entire team as a whole in 2024 McDonald had this to say on his secondary we are really excited about our secondary and I think there is some flexibility there we can get some Personnel Group for guys moving around play match up ball a little bit they’re in good shape could this be the second coming of the legion of boom that’s the question that Seahawk fans really want to know I think Devon Witherspoon is going to take a huge step Rick woen I’m very confident it’s going to bounce back and look like what he was his rookie season hopefully even better than that Julian love he’s wanting extension soon he’s going want to going to want to be around a while Mike Jackson and Trey Brown competing for that other outside corner spot I like Trey Brown a little more than I do Mike Jackson but both those guys have plenty of starting experience and ran Jenkins a very solid player in his own right you got to watch out for Devin Witherspoon he is the key to all of this and throughout this off season when we’ve brought up Deon Witherspoon it’s been all positive right Mike McDonald I think that’s his favorite player he talked about him every single day in the offseason activities we heard from his teammates of him taking just major steps in the right direction and potentially positioning himself to be the best player on this entire defense in 2024 McDonald on Deon Witherspoon said the following this was back at mini camp I told him today I couldn’t believe he was the smartest football player of all time and it’s only his second year in the NFL he’s got an answer for everything no hey be yourself that’s who he is we love him Witherspoon is a rookie last year was a pro bowler led the Seahawks in passes defended as a rookie with 16 and the Seahawks the comparison that I make for Deon Witherspoon when you want to look at what Mike McDonald might have in mind look at what Mike McDonald did last year in Baltimore with Kyle Hamilton as primarily a Nickelback but did play some safety and Kyle Hamilton blossomed in his second year and now is in position to be one of the best I in football I think with Deon Witherspoon playing that Nickelback that floater role you’re going to see Mike McDonald do things with Devon Witherspoon that we didn’t even know he was capable of the stats last year were very good right eight tackles for loss one interception 16 pass breakups but folks I’m telling you right now this is just the beginning of the Devon Witherspoon era is Devon Witherspoon right now at this very moment the best player on the Seahawks defense what do you think type why for yes in for no wa in the comment section let us know number three the next key to the Seahawks success on the defensive side of the ball something that Mike McDonald has put a big emphasis on is having linebackers that can cover you look at the linebacker room last year with Bobby Wagner and Jordan Brooks both very good inside linebackers but both of them struggled in coverage that’s why they’re not back here that’s why the Seahawks invested in Terrell Dodson and Jerome Baker because of their abilities to cover and play uh in coverage and it’s real simple Mike McDonald has made it very clear if you’re a linebacker and you can’t cover you will not be on the field in this defense that is a huge priority for what the Seahawks want to do and if you look back at last year’s coverage rankings all right I would say the reason why these numbers are not so high is not even all due to the secondary I think the linebacker room was the biggest reason why the seaworks struggled in coverage last year 26th in opponent completion percentage 24th in opponent yards per pass 21st in opponent passes per game 22nd and opposing passing yards per game and 21st an opponent interceptions thrown at just 1.88% uh as far as that goes those numbers weren’t good enough and the Seahawks their defense was picked apart in the middle of the field against opposing offenses because they were going right after the linebackers now as far as Dodson and Baker go what the Seahawks signed up for with bringing these two guys in they are two of the very best in the NFL when it comes to coverage the folks at Pro Football Focus their grades for Dodson and Baker had both of them within the top 20 last year in their coverage rankings dodson’s rank grade was an 88.4 that was the the third highest in the entire NFL Baker’s grade not quite as good but still solid 74.4 that was the 19th best in the NFL last season and as far as how they’re used when it comes to these linebackers and their role and coverage Corin Smith of Si all seah hooks did a really good job a while back of kind of laying this out here’s what he had to say assuming the Seahawks plan to plug Baker into Smith’s role referring to ran Smith and Dotson into Queen’s role referring to Patrick Queen at the second level their past production in play Styles should match up well with what McDonald asks of his linebackers with each player being in their mid 20s and in their Prime of their respective careers with room to develop the organization will be hoping at least one if not both become long-term answers at an important position and there’s not a lot of depth at this spot doson and Baker are obviously banged up a little right now and the hope is that they’re back in time for training camp but you have the rookie Knight there and we already heard Mike McDonald say that Knight’s got to improve when it comes to coverage but that’s something they’re working on Thomas rigan oconnell Richardson and Gibbs all fighting for roster spots at this point but you don’t have a ton of depth but there there’s reason to be optimistic for the fit that both Dodson and Baker bring to Mike McDonald’s defense here with that said with linebackers still being in need what is the biggest need for the Seahawks defense at this point in time wa in the comments section let us know what you think that is if you enjoyed Today’s show you want to stick it to some Cowboy fans like the video we certainly appreciate it I’m Tyler Jones we’ll see you next time here on Seahawks today [Music]

  1. Once the NFL sees how Coach Mike changes the way we see the Seahawks in one season, we will have a lot of people getting on board. Mike has inherited a young group of guys that are on the rise. His ability to play a scheme of defense that relays more on group play rather than individual play. His defense translates. Our defensive line may be better than some may think. The secondary is elite. Together these strengths equal a top tier defensive team. The linebackers in this defense are more scheme oriented. They do not need to be pro bowlers yet. They can rely on the talent around them. Lean on the D-line and secondary. We need the LB’s to play their gaps. Make tackles and make plays. The rest will fall into place. This defense will pull pro bowl linebackers out of this roster.
Expect this defense to be fast. 💨 explosive!🧨 expect attention to detail. Expect these young guys to play like vets. As the season progresses, the defensive schemes will become more intricate. Mike will apply pressure to opposing QB’s. He will have the Seahawks leading in areas that were once weaknesses.
The Seahawks are known as a Defensive Team that relays on the run. Mikes team will also be known as a Defensive team but with a high octane offense that can pass or run. Pick your poison. ☠️ Yhis is scary.😱
Realistically I will predict the Seahawks offense to shine more at 1st. Expect this Grub offense to come right in and dominate their division and eventually the league. This is a top tier offense. Geno is not a question mark. We know what he brings. Geno was put in bad positions his 1st two seasons. His 2nd season was worse. No protection. This year we expect to surprise the NFL with the best offensive line in the league. This line has a lot of talent. Players who will show some growth and become stars. Geno will benefit most. With protection, Geno can operate at the highest level. He’s athletic enough to be mobile. This is his year! Geno will peek in these next few seasons under Mike McDonald. He will thrive!!! He will be the best QB in the division. Pro bowler for certain. Geno breaks records this year. Watch and see. Accuracy TD:INT ratio! Yards! TDs! Rushing! And more!
