With Celebrini Added, Sharks Appear to be Building for a Better Future

welcome back all right I want to talk about the San Jose Sharks I want to talk about the San Jose Sharks because they were the worst team in the league this past season they’ve had some rough years so 2019 2020s where it starts to get kind of rough for them they had a 450 points percentage 2020 2021 playing Just within their own division their points percentage dropped to 438 2021 2022 it actually went up to 470 but then the bottom drops out uh 2022 2023 366 point percentage and the season we just finished 287 points percentage so San Jose cannot get worse and they’re actively trying to get better and the attendance really needs this boost hopefully with celebrini uh we will see a big boost in season tickets and just attendance in general for San Jose it bottomed out in 2021 2022 with an average of 12,574 in attendance uh then it went up to 13,988 in the 2022 2023 season and this past season it drops down a little bit again 13,559 but if you’re watching San Jose games there’s a lot of empty seats and with the flashing lights on the seats it makes it really obvious which ones are empty and really calls attention to it now the roster makeup is as such and I’ve I’ve broken it up into 28 and higher in terms of age 23 to 27 and then 22 and under and obviously 22 and under you’re not worried as much about the cap hits and everything almost everybody’s on the entry level contract and all that but the 28 and up group gets a boost from adding Tyler to Foley he has a $6 million cap hit until 2028 which is the longest that anybody’s under contract with San Jose there aren’t any long-term contracts that they have to worry about past then uh grandland 5 million he has one more year left in his contract going to San Jose absolutely turned around grantland’s career I think uh wenberg also a $5 million cap hit he signed that of course on the 1 uh that is a 2-year deal so it goes till 2026 uh goodro and we’ll see whether or not Barkley goodro actually is on the team once we get to the start of the Season or if they move them out again there were rumors that this was part of a deal they made with the Rangers but a $ 3.64 million cap hit until 2027 so Barkley goodro at that cap hit for that long understandable the Rangers wanted that contract off their roster and I understand why San Jose be fine at picking it up because they have cap space they can afford to do that uh term $2 million cap hit for one more year uh Bailey signs a one-year uh $775,000 contract for so just one more year for him uh and kacher kachur is the one to keep an eye on because it’s an $8 million cap hit until 2027 If Logan coutur can be 100% healthy this year and play I’d say even like 70 to 75 games s should be better just for that alone uh now in the 23 to 27 range you got Luke cunan 2.75 million cap hit for one year uh C $2 million cap hit he’s a restricted free agent in 2025 so when the numbers are in green it’s a restricted free agent uh grundstrom signs a $1.8 million a year extension that goes till 2026 uh zerland 1.45 million contract for one more year and then he is a restricted free agent delandria a $1.3 million cap hit for two years he’s still a restricted free agent at the end of that and javanni Smith $800,000 cap hit and he’s an unrestricted free agent next summer so you’ve got enough forwards here between those who are 28 up and 23 through 27 that in the event that San Jose says okay we don’t feel like some of our rookies are ready yet you’re all right you’ve got enough forwards to cover now the 22 and underg group is interesting you’ve got Will Smith who of course signs this entry level contract he’s expected to make the team uh graph who looked okay at the end of the season we’ll see if he plays with them the full year this year Eckland we know Eckland is a Topline guy he’s been playing Topline minutes over the last season so far uh he’s going to be doing that again this season uh bordalo I like bordalo we’ll see if there’s top six upside with bordalo this season I would think uh celebrini we know that celebrini has got a lot of expectation with him and he’s very likely to play with them this season uh because he does have the option to go back to the NCAA as well uh byad who’s been overseas and now they may very well plug him into the lineup uh edstrom who they picked up from Vegas of course at the deadline in the hurdle deal uh musty who had a good season in juniors is he ready we’ll see probably he’s going to need some more time and seasoning uh mahat Mulan on the blue line young defenseman and Sam Dickinson who they picked up is going to be an excellent two-way uh defenseman um there’s there’s some good offensive upside there too but when we get into their fense and the 28 and up group and the 23 through 27 group again you’re in a situation where you don’t necessarily need any of the young guys to come up and play uh vasic has a $7 million cap hit until 2026 the vasic contract was talked about a lot a few years ago uh obviously a lot of the uh rumbles about how that’s not a great contract and San J should try to move it that’s all kind of Gone by the wayside uh he’s a veteran defenseman and again uh they’re not near the salary cap right now that that contract isn’t hurting them uh Walman of course picked up from Detroit $3.4 million cap hit till 2026 Ferraro very Team friendly $3.25 million cap hit till 2026 Yan Ruda has one year on a deal that pays him 2.75 million at least that’s the cap hit and Benning two more years $1.25 million cap hit uh thrun is in the 23 through 27 category along with emberson and both players are currently restricted free agents so they’re going to eat into that cap space but not a lot neither thrund nor emberson are going to end up being really expensive contracts in net you’ve got vanich in the 28 and up category $3.4 million cap hit for one more year uh and then you got Blackwood in the 23 through 27 category $2.35 million cap hit until 2025 then you’ve got Crona and Romanov both of them coming up and playing I thought Romanov might have been a little bit better of the two he’s paid a little bit more so the salary cap hit both of them are restricted free agents next summer $867,500 for Crona $910,000 for Romanov so this is a team that currently has $3,734 N9 in cap space according to the soon to go dark cap friendly think it goes dark tomorrow at any rate uh there’s there’s a lot of cap space for this team I don’t think they’re going to spend to the cap why would they they don’t really need to but their top six doesn’t look that bad and again it depends on cacher being healthy uh you’d have eckan sure and T Foley maybe on that first line and then grandland celebrini and zerland on the second line keeping in mind that grandland zerland Eckland was a very good line for them in the second half maybe you keep those three together and so if they do that then you’ve got cacher celebrini to Foley uh playing in some combination together maybe cacher on the wings cini down the middle or vice versa maybe celebrini starts his career on the wing uh just till he gets used to things in the NHL and moves to Center that has happened happened before so it is an interesting top six they’re going to be able to put together it’s going to be more competitive than what they had to finish the season so the lines for their final game in 2324 uh grandland zerland Eckland as I said Top Line then you had Carpenter javanni Smith and studa well Carpenter and sta are off uh cunan Coston and Gan uh Gan may very well end up still playing for them this season but not going to be top six uh Sturm bordalo and graph so all three of those players are still on the roster uh we’ll see if they end up on the fourth line or where they end up the defensive pairings Addison and thrund well Addison’s gone he’s a unrestricted free agent yet to be signed uh vasic and Jack Thompson there uh Jack Thompson for depth of course uh burough was moved to LA and Mario Ferraro is still here so this is going to be a very different defensive defensive group and a very different offense as well the goal tending vanich and Blackwood uh that is a competent goal tending tandem and it should get San Jose to I would say 25 to 30 wins are very much reable for this team uh if you want to get crazy about it you could say 30 to 35 but I think 25 to 30 is a more reasonable goal uh for the team in their first year trying to dig their way out of what they’ve created the easy part is tearing it down the easy part is just tearing everything down and getting Draft Picks and Prospects and going there look what we did we got three first round picks we got all these prospects but then when you’re trying to build yourself back up to being a playoff team it can be difficult one thing working in San Jose’s favor though despite the empty seats despite all of the Doom and Gloom around this franchise San Jose I’ve always felt like has a pretty good reputation in the National Hockey League so attracting free agents shouldn’t be a problem they may be on some no trade lists absolutely as they were with goodro but that could be changing very very soon um San Jose wanting to build things up they did the tank they got celebrini now it’s about trying to get yourself back into contention for a playoff spot which takes time so I’m not saying there’s going to be a miraculous turnaround but looking at San Jose on the schedule and going well those are two easy points uh that will likely not be the case this season they should be a lot better uh if they get back above 400 in the points projection Department I would say that’ be huge for them but yeah San Jose should be better and it should start driving the attendants back in the right direction we saw that with Chicago when they got Bard all of a sudden people were coming out to watch Conor Bard will people come out to watch Macklin celebrini so question for San Jose fans are you more likely and more excited to go watch San Jose games this season are you a lapsed season ticket holder or somebody who just didn’t go to sharks games last year and you’re saying I’ll go this year let me know your thoughts hit like And subscribe and ballpark how many wins you think this team is going to get this season they’ve failed to reach 20 in back-to-back years isn’t it so 25 would be a pretty big Improvement overall uh 30 would be a huge Improvement but let me know your prediction hit like and subs subscribe if you haven’t done so already thank you guys so much for all your support I will talk to you again soon

  1. San Jose fan. Last two years have been pretty tough… not much enthusiasm. It wasn't even just that the team was bad, but most of the familiar faces we knew and loved had moved on or retired. That makes a difference. I mean, I'd go to a game just to see Joe Thornton's beard, even if I know they'll lose…

But now that the team has some fresh blood and still has some guys from the Old Guard sticking around like Couture and even Vlasic, I'd absolutely love to go out for some games this season to see what can be done by this group.

I dont expect them to be winning a ton of games yet, but I could see in 2-3 years that this team will be absolutely on the up and competing in the playoffs with some young, exciting talent, and perhaps even some free agents that could come over and want to chase a cup!

  2. Sharks have the most underrated blueline prospects it's crazy. If Cagnoni and Pohlkamp were in the Leafs, Habs, or Rangers systems then they would be regarded as top prospects in the league. Mainly Cagnoni, he's a top 10 defensive prospect (prior to this years draft)

  3. How can you not be more excited for the Sharks next year, look at that final team they iced last season! 😂 Just got to hope the prospects develop and some under performing guys turn it around, it could be a surprising season.

  4. Haven't been watching as many games as I wanted the last few years. Dealing with a now 3 year old has a lot to do with it. I did watch the prospect scrimmage today. It was 90 minutes well spent on a holiday when I wasn't cooking on the grill. With all the young talent, I'm really looking forward to even just the rookie face off tournament and preseason in September

  5. Two things :
    – The pairing could be very different than last season also because the coaching staff will be entirely new. I'm curious to see what Warsofsky gonna do.
    – There's 0 pressure, SJ still gonna be bottom of the league but no problem, we could get one or two interesting prospect in the next draft and it's projected to be a deep one.

  6. Celebrini and Dickinson in the same draft class is going to be THE turning point in the trajectory of this franchise in 5-10-15 years

  7. Don’t forget next years draft. They have Vegas’ 1st in 2025, so depending how they finish the Sharks could potentially have 2 top 15 picks again, unless they decide to make a deal.. Askarov wouldn’t hurt

  8. I watched about 30-35 complete sharks games this season. You bet if Celebrini is with the big club I’m watching every single one

  9. I feel good about the Sharks rn and i always look forward to going to as many games as i can despite their past few years ofc job wise its been tough to get season tickets or go to lots of games but hearing the fanbase rn this coming year i do expect the attendance jumping quite a bit. but overall im wayy more excited from this past draft and i believe is Logan is fully healthy and celebrini plays i feel confident to say 30 wins

  10. i really think celebrini needs more dev time, I'd hate to waste an investment like that after suffering so much this year. I do think we can get 25 games this year, especially if cooch comes back
