Cardinals vs. Nationals Highlights (7/5/24) | MLB Highlights

Patrick Corbin who will make start number 18 still looking for career win number 99 he’s one and eight with a 5.49 ER making start number 18 gets this one out to shallow Center Jacob young will settle under it for the first out Alec burles is hitting second in the lineup it’s Lefty against Lefty here sharply hit and Abrams played that to the side and Burleson’s aboard with one out that was a rocket hit to the shortstop and CJ couldn’t come up with it in the C have their first base runner of the game full count for conteras here it is and he earns Ball Four what an IT bat single and a walk back to back after a fly out and here’s Paul goldshmid with two aboard in the first inning pass ball top of the Zone strike three Orbin strikes out his buddy for the second out here in the first so it’s up to Nolan arado if the Cardinals are to score here in the first inning arado is over for his last 13 with a runner in scoring position ground ball to third yeah first in is not the problem not the problem I’ll say it now Orin strands two they make him throw 27 pitches but a zero put up by the NS left hander in the first Sunny gray will go he’s 9 and5 2.98 erra making start number 16 and he is two- one against the Nets lifetime Abrams has been red hot and a shot toward second and Brendan Donovan getting a rare start at second handles his first chance and there’s out number one Thomas a line drive to left and he’s got a base hit against the for team nice job by Lane getting on a cutter missed a little bit up they’re trying to go down and Away With It 106 off the bat James Wood’s first time wearing the city connects that’s right cherry blossoms and a different number on the back of that Jersey another half step out there with that lead and he goes as wood swings and misses great a he’s down on strikes but Lane Thomas steel second number 20 on the season for Lane now Jesse Winker in RBI opportunity the offensive star for the Nationals yesterday sends a line drive down the right field line Fair into the corner Winker does it again Lane Thomas in score and Jesse Winker will Cruise in the second continuing to put up big offensive numbers in a Nat uni this season gar takes that one up and away and he draws the two out walk now it’s Garcia’s turn with Runners first and second one in runners go Garcia line drive to right Waker will score easily Riz the third and then that’s to put up a crooked number here in the first it’s two nothing new inning New Jersey top and hopefully new luck for sunny gray as he starts the second inning yep as the line drive to left welcome to DC my man and he continues his Ownage of his former team he’s got the hips swiveled down already Jacob young going to drop one out there to Shadow left good read by Nick senzel going to go first to third throw on the way young advancing to second some good base running by the NS here in the second and they’ve got two in scoring position really he thought that senzel was going to be dead to rights right there that plays right in front of him not able to get him and all of a sudden got some trouble second and third with one out so here’s CJ Abrams with a chance to add on going to send the line drive to right that’ll back up Carlson it’s over his head sends Ellen to score young will score easily it’s four nothing NS here in the second I mean this one looks like a two iron off the bat here of CJ Abrams for seeing fastball middle middle I mean this thing is just elevated good hitting thigh high and he was ready for it all of a sudden the Cardinals in some Dire Straits here in the opener two runs in the first two runs in the second for the Nationals they lead it four to nothing top of the third inning Cardinals have a hill to climb here they Trail four nothing a two-run first inning two runs in the second inning for the Nets against Sunny greay Tapper right back to Corbett first out top three popped up into shallow right Garcia moving out Thomas moving in who will call Thomas will and he makes the catch as Garcia gives way and he’ll get the Cardinals one two three again here in the third Garcia retires burles Patrick Corbin’s retired eight in a row well a lot of traffic for sunny gray in the first two innings of this game Brad but that is not characteristic for the Cardinals right-hander I he has been so good to this point so look been a little off early hopefully he’s able to get things righted here in the third inning Luis Garcia Jr drove in a run back in the first inning squares one up to left Center chasing back is canani at the track at the wall it’s out of here Luis Garcia Jr his third home run of the home stands and the NS have scored in every inning so far it’s five nothing the depth on it is crazy oh oh the popcorn I love the effort by the guy guy goes out there with a bucket of popcorn to try to make the catch for his kid and he gets it can we get him some popcorn please he got the souvenir but it cost him about $15 worth of popcorn little Tapper over the mount Abrams got a great jump throws high but safe YZ came off the bag Abrams did all he could made a terrific read on that ball right back where it came from and into center field a base hit so the Cardinals have something brewing in the fourth inning two on with one out ronado has his second hit of the road trip instead it’s ball forward all of a sudden the Cardinals have the Bas is loaded so the nature of baseball is things can change in the blink of an eye and here we go Dylan Carlson bats with three aboard and one out the one oh high fly toward right Thomas on the run and at the line and in the warning track area makes the catch that’s going to score one run the throw will be into second give Carlson a sack fly the Cardinals get their first run of the game his 10th riby gold Schmid scores it’s a 5-1 game Pedro pz who’s been swinging a a good B got a chance here to get something going with two outs sharply hit toward third that’s off the glove of szel everybody safe and the run is in it’s 5 to2 this is scored a single here for pz drives in the Run goes to a knee kicks off him and nowhere to go with that one for Nick senzel well the Cardinals last inning did a nice job with Corbin you made him work a little bit did not expand the Zone hopefully something they continue in this one and that one on the ground and fair hit it for the left field Corner another two- strike hit for Mason wi and a good start for the Cardinals Mason wins 18th double against the fifth inning starting a 3-2 pitch on the ground to First that’ll Advance the runner it costs the Cardinals an out though and conteras is coming up next and lines over the glove of the short stop and a run will score it’s 5 to three conteras with an RBI hit so that productive out turns into run number three and the Cardinals are now a blast away from tying the game as goldi sends one to short Abrams the backand flip to Garcia on the first pick by epz that’s how you turn it 643 to get Corbin out of out of the fifth inning Patrick gbin goes five solid Innings now he’ll give way to the bullpen Robert Garcia back in there after yesterday’s day off now his fourth appearance in the last 5 days Pedro pz swings at the first pitch zenzel to his left this time again to Second just in time Robert Garcia Works a scoreless top of inning six so the night is done for sunny gray who went five innings struck out six allowed five runs he gives way to Chris Roy who is recall today for the fifth stint in a cardinal uniform the pitch swinging a miss and yepez Strikes Out on a sinking fast ball so Roy Croft continues Gray’s work at the end of his outing and the Nationals go quietly in the sixth Bas on ball is issued to burles and now there’s two on with one out so two on one out runners go Ruiz drops it a double steal for the Cardinals all that hard work by Pop Warner looking for pitchers tells pays off in a big way here boy put the pressure on walking lead right there even if he is able to come up with that one there was such a great lead over at second you weren’t going to be able to get him line drive to Second Luis Garcia Jr Picks It Off nice Davey out of the Dugout going to go to Hunter Harvey here tying run in scoring position for the Cardinals the kick in the pitch and a lot ground ball and one hop to short it’s fielded by Abrams the throw across to First is a little high but handled by YZ for the out and Hunter Harvey gets out of the jam on one pitch Washington scored the first five the Cardinals have scored the last three and need two more to get even here in the final two innings that’s driven down the right field line that ball might drop Fair it is it’s in the corner and it’s a leadoff double for arado Brad who has a three hit night this is a great way to get things started in the eighth inning Nolan who does not tend to go that direction a lot covers it gets the barrel to it and gets it down line Harvey delivers swinging a bouncer right side slowly hit Garcia charges up has it now is a short flip to yep as at first for the out as Aron crosses to third Nolan Gorman’s grabbed a bat and he’s going to come on and pinch hit for Carlson off the end of the bat that’s headed for right center field that’s down for a base hit a pinch hit single for Gorman and the Cardinals are down one it’s a 54 score Off the Bench gets that split finger from Harvey catch the right off the end of the bat chipping away in this ball game and Jesse Winker leads off against the left tenter and drills one deep to left center field this is in the Gap and it’s down to the fence for extra bases Winker around first on his way to Second SE up with it look towards second he’ll throw it toward third Winker second double of the night and his 15th of the year on the first pitch thrown by Liberator here in the bottom of the eighth kert Ruiz will try to advance the runner here shows bun and lays it down beautifully liby thought about third late throw and got him that is an enormous out over at third base this is a tough throw but plenty of time there to get Winker nice job swings and lines one up the middle a base hit at a right center field Ruiz around second heading for third and the throw from seani will go to second base so just like that Nationals have Runners on the corners with one outs Sor will be taken down here with Runners at the corners one out it’s Fernandez versus yepez yepez takes ball four what an at bat and the bases are loaded with Nationals now and Nick senzel is coming up the onew up the middle right at the bag step on the pillow Double Play What a job Fernandez it’s amazing this Bullpen is amazing what a five run lead now just one Kyle finnean is zigan hit well out the right not well enough Thomas coming in for it a couple steps there’s the first out the Cardinals have two outs left here’s conteras Fly ball well hit right center field at the warning track wall contras ties it again look at his reaction as he rounds their base the Cardinals have come back from five nothing to tie the game in the ninth Wilson conas is back and he is on fire the energy the excitement the fight in this club down five runs in this ball game and able to bring it right back for the third straight game the Cardinals go to Extra Inning as Brandon Donovan takes his lead off second Gorman in the Box as the first pitch whacked into left field base hit late break Donnie but he’s going to come home Outfield plays very deep here’s the throw up the Line Runner to Second Cardinals lead at 6 to5 Nolan Gorman two for two two rbi’s laate in this game Ryan helsley will answer the Chevy call to the bullpen he’s the fifth reliever tonight and he will continue his perfect run of saves with a one-run lead and a ghost Runner James Wood at second base in the 10 high fly toward right burles Retreats he’s got a good arm settles underneath makes the catch Runner tags he’s going to make third on a productive out and the Nationals have the tying run 90 ft away in the 10th and Ruiz the batter ruiza line drive to right that’ll tie the ball game tber comes through James Wood into to score and it’s 66 round ball right back at Hesley what a play by wind M glov it from a second base position throws not in time Luis Garcia junr booking it down the line and there’s two on with one out runners go throw down to Second Garcia safe and that’s execute the double steal and the winning run now 90 ft away line to Second throw a third double play base running blunders have played the Nationals all year and Hesley and the Cardinals get out of it we do live to see an 11th inning what a game in DC Mason wi the Manford Man at second buron has a hit tonight floro turns it Loose that’s going to get the man to Third Garcia flips across and one man out so here’s one of the heroes for the Cardinals Wilson conteras That Got Away at a swing and a miss wind’s going to score there’ll be no throw to first and the Cardinals take a 76 lead Adams couldn’t Coral it and the Cardinals get a gift seventh run the the craziest game continues to get crazier right here St Lou back in front Ryan Hesley is going to come out and work the bottom of the 11th inning and this is sort of rarified err for Ryan this year Ryan Helly has gone one inning a time every single game so far this year so he gets the nod here in the second inning Cardinals will walk Abrams and go righty righty here with Thomas he’s got his sign his 02 pitch on the ground Aron’s got it long throw card win what a game another one Brad that you circle on the schedule and say this was a special night the Cardinals were down 5 nothing and in two Extra Innings beat the Nationals and it’s a 3 and one road trip

  1. OH !!! MY !!! GOODNESS !!! Folks, Manager of the Year Oliver Jose Marmol and his St. Louis Cardinals (the GREATEST team in the league) are like LL COOL J … "don't call it a comeback." It's NO DIGGITY that the squad will go 121-41, TAKE the NL Central, MAKE the postseason yet again and after Game 4 on October 29, be TWELVE-time World Series champions!

TONE-SETTING top of the fourth inning. First, Dylan James Carlson, the 25-year-old from Elk Grove, California, gets the offense rolling with a SMOOTH sacrifice fly to right field, driving in co-Most Valuable Player of the League Paul Edward Goldschmidt! Then, REAL catcher Pedro José Pagés, the 25-year-old from Maracay, Venezuela, CRUSHES an RBI single to left field, bringing in co-MVP Nolan James Arenado!

A teammate hits an RBI single to left field in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Masyn Blaze Winn.

In the top of the eighth inning, Nolan Brian Gorman, the 24-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona BLASTS an RBI single to center field, letting Nolan James Arenado go home!

In the top of the ninth inning, a teammate has a home run to center field.

Nolan Brian Gorman, PSST … still hot! In the top of the tenth inning, he PUMMELS an RBI single to center field, as Brendan Michael Donovan crosses the fourth bag.

Masyn Blaze Winn, the UNDISPUTED Rookie of the Year! In the top of the eleventh inning, the 22-year-old from Katy, Texas SHOWS HIS SPEED to come home for the GAME-WINNING run.

#SCTOP10 defensive plays during tonight's bout! To kick it off in the bottom of the first inning, TRUE catcher Pedro José Pagés WHIPPED to second baseman Brendan Michael Donovan for a CRUCIAL out. Next in the bottom of the sixth inning, center fielder Michael Siani makes a GODLY snag. Finally in the bottom of the tenth inning, second baseman Nolan Brian Gorman and third baseman Nolan James Arenado team up for the BEST double play I have ever seen! These ALL prove the STL is not only the best offensively, but defensively, too.

Ladies and gentlemen, what an ABSOLUTELY GUTSY effort tonight by Cy Young Award winner Sonny Douglas Gray! The 34-year-old from Smyrna, Tennessee got SERIOUS with SIX monster strikeouts. A CAP TIP goes to Chris Michael Roycroft, Matthew Joseph Liberatore, Ryan Austin Fernandez, Joseph Abel "Jojo" Romero and Ryan Dalton Helsley, all part of the best bullpen in the league, for the ROCK-HARD defense.

    TIME TO FLY !!!!!!!!!!! #12in24

  2. The mismatched gray jersey and oants infuriate me.. i know it doesnt really matter. But this is the show nike and fanatics really dropping the ball this year.

  3. Comeback Cardinals of course!!! we haven't seen the comeback Cardinals in AWHILE… I don't know the last time we came back in a ballgame… Our bullpen has been fantastic….GEAUX Cardinals!!!!

  4. The Cardinals came from behind 5 runs down against this very team last year and won that one as well. Seems like there has been much improvement this year.
