it’s hard to win games when your quarterbacks aren’t playing well the Patriots record shows this the offense couldn’t get into a rhythm so the team often found itself on the losing end during the disappointing season they made it evident that changes were necessary the team needed to find a solution to their quarterback problem to turn things around this led to speculation and anticipation about what moves they would make in the off season especially regarding the quarterback position now that we’ve seen their issues let’s look at how they approached the draft to address them the Patriots knew they needed to secure a strong quarterback and made some bold moves heading into the NFL draft the Patriots knew they needed a change at quarterback two names stood out Jaden Daniels and Drake May Daniels is known for his incredible Speed and Agility making him a threat on the ground however his passing game left something to be desired on the other hand Drake May offered a more balanced skill set he could run when needed but also had a strong arm and good pocket presence the Patriots decided to go with Drake May believing he better fit their needs May’s ability to extend plays and his powerful arm made him an exciting prospect unlike some quarterbacks who rely heavily on running make can stand firm in the pocket and deliver accurate throws this versatility is what the Patriots were looking for there was some debate about whether May or jacobe brassette would start the season given May’s potential many including myself think he should get on the field immediately the more game experience he gets the faster he will develop with the draft complete and may on board the Patriots took further steps to support their new quarterback they added key offensive players to help make his transition smoother the Patriots made strategic moves to strengthen their wide receiver cores to support their new quarterback in the second draft round they selected Jaylen PK from Washington pulk is a complete wide receiver with all the skills needed to succeed profession professionally he can get open at all field levels which is crucial for a Young quarterback like Drake may but the Patriots didn’t stop there in the fourth round they picked up another talented receiver Javon Baker from UCF although Baker wasn’t the fastest player in the draft he plays with great speed and intelligence he’s an excellent route Runner with reliable hands making him a valuable asset Baker’s ability to read defenses and find Open Spaces will make May’s job easier these additions will join Juju Smith sh and de Mario Douglas creating a more Dynamic and versatile receiving unit this mix of experienced players and new Talent gives the Patriots a solid group of targets it’s not the most star studded lineup but it’s enough to help a Young quarterback develop and succeed on the field the Patriots significantly upgraded their offensive line and running game to ensure the success of their new quarterback in the draft they picked up Kaden Wallace in the third round and Laden Robinson in the fourth round these additions aim to provide better pass protection and create a more effective running game a solid offensive line is essential for any quarterback especially a rookie with Wallace and Robinson the Patriots are building a line that can give Drake May the time he needs to make plays good protection means may can stay in the pocket longer make his reads and deliver accurate passes without worrying about defensive pressure in addition to strengthening the offensive line the Patriots also focused on enhancing their running game they acquired Antonio Gibson a solid running back known for his ability to catch passes out of the back field this dual threat capability makes him a valuable addition providing another option for May and helping to keep defenses guessing Gibson will join raym Andre Stevenson who has already proven to be a capable and reliable back Stevenson’s ability to make plays when given the ball ensures that the Patriots have a balanced attack a solid running game takes pressure off the quarterback and opens up opportunities for playaction passes which can be crucial for a young quarterback’s development starting with the defensive line the Patriots boast a formidable duo with Matthew judan and Josh EA at the edge positions these two players have proven their ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt offensive plays Matthew in particular has been a consistent force and pairing him with EA gives the Patriots a strong Edge presence Christian barmore remains a crucial player in the middle of the defensive line his performance last season showed that he can be a dominant Force capable of taking on double teams and still making plays with barmore anchoring the middle and judon and USA on the edges the Patriots have a defensive line that can compete with any offense in the league Christian Gonzalez stands out as a critical player in the Patriots secondary before his injury Gonzalez was showing signs of becoming a top tier cornerback his ability to cover some of the League’s best receivers like Tyreek Hill speaks to his talent and potential with Gonzalez healthy and ready to return the Patriots have a Cornerstone player in their secondary Jonathan Jones another strong cornerback compliments Gonzalez Jones has proven reliable and effective in coverage forming a solid one-w punch with Gonzalez this pairing gives the Patriots a formidable Duo that can lock down opposing receivers and make life difficult for quarterbacks Marcus Jones adds depth to the cornerback position especially as a nickel Corner his skills in covering slot receivers and understanding defensive schemes make him a valuable asset the Patriots cornerback Group which includes Gonzalez Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones is deep and talented the Patriots have two standout safety players jabel peppers and Kyle Dugger Peppers known for his physical play and versatility had an impressive season last year Dugger also showed his value with solid performances making the safety position one of the defense’s strengths together jabil and Dugger provide a safety net for the defense capable of supporting the run and defending against the pass with a secondary solid the Patriots have a defense that can challenge any offense the combination of talented corners and reliable safeties ensures that the Patriots can cover well and make plays on the ball the New England Patriots are poised for a much better season with all these improvements the blend of new talent and experienced players on both sides of the ball gives this team a fresh start the offense has been bolstered with a new quarterback improved wide receivers and a more robust offensive line while the defense remains solid with key additions and returning Talent the potential for this team is high if Drake may can develop quickly and the offensive additions click we could see a significant turnaround from last season the defense can hold its own against any team with its strength and line and secondary this balance between a developing offense and a strong defense creates a promising outlook for the Patriots now let’s think about what this means for the future can Drake may become the franchise quarterback the Patriots have been searching for will the new wide receivers step up and become reliable targets how will the defense perform with its mix of veterans and new Talent these are the questions that will shape the
