Phillies vs. Braves Game Highlights (7/6/24) | MLB Highlights

right now Spencer schwellenbach has done a really solid job and ra is a little elevated but it’s a small sample size through just six starts for the rookie schwach is a key member of this rotation right now he’s got the stuff to do it by all accounts he’s got the stuff he just doesn’t have very much experience yet two balls and two strikes on Bryson stop weave done and missed able to Fan him with a splitter one of the many good pitches that schwellenbach has in his weaponry and he hits a ball ball in right center field Kellick ranging back still carrying him all the way to the wall and he’s got it four out number two schwellenbach with an opportunity for a one two three first inning off the plate back pedaling is the former Short Stop schwellenbach he can really feel his position well well they go down in order Braves will be coming up when we come back no score at the end of a half an inning Ranger Suarez last start he pitched four and 2/3 he gave up six earned runs it took his ER all the way to 22 all the way all the way I think a lot of folks would be perfectly happy with the 227 right now Jared kck’s going to have extra bases and it’s a ground roll double as it BS into the seats and a great start as he was able to pound that one down the right field line and jump all over the Lefty Ranger Suarez ozy’s been swinging a very hot bat he’s got an eight game hitting streak he’s 12 for his last 32 with four extra base hits and five runs Muses one the other way into right field and here comes Kellick with the speed albez gives Atlanta the early lead two batters into the bottom of the first it’s one- nothing Atlanta Suarez ready and delivers and the pitch is a called third strike right on the inside corner and Riley caught looking for the first out last time out it was the first time ever as a starter he didn’t strike out a single batter on the corner that is perfectly located and olon can’t do anything about it yet again it’s another painted fast ball and when you paint 9293 it looks like 95 96 here’s Ozuna first pitch to him and he hits one very well to deep center field back to the wall reaching for the wall out of the ballark to run Homer flying through the sky like a comet to straightway center field and Marcelo Zuna makes it three nothing Braves here on the first inning dead center hadn’t hit a home run in two weeks he’s hit one on backto back nights now Marsh one of the runners up to start in the allstar game he’ll muscle one against the righty in left field base hit for marsh who absolutely crushes right-handed pitching Nick castios the batter castanos HS one out to left field breaking in Eli white a knee slide and he’s across the grass and squeezing it it’s probably still pretty wet out there from all the rain we had earlier and he slid right to it gracefully to squeeze it for the out very smooth play one down that brings Cody Clemens up to the plate swung on line towards right that’s a base hit over the leap of Olsen around second on his way to third is Marsh trying for second is Clemens and he is safe this will be challenged the call overturn the run is out at and the gold Glover Adam Duval has his third Outfield assist of the season with a very accurate throw Ria kept the tag on Clemens and it’s out number two so now two down with a runner in third for the catcher Maran wh’s already made a nice play in this inning this a much easier one to close the frame a good defense from the corner outfielders Eli white was just CAU up yesterday Suarez bounces back nicely 1 2 three on 11 pitches in the second pleased to be joined from the Atlanta Dugout by Chris S who’s had an absolutely fabulous season this year tied for the most wins in baseball with 11 Sub sub three er and likely on his way to an eighth All-Star Game Chris thanks for the time brother no problem thanks for having me guys all right give me a sense you’re watching a young man out there tonight 24 years of age you’ve been around him now for the last month plus he just got a strike out of David do what do you see pretty quick too um just a very athletic um College Short Stop unbelievable arm um really just kind of getting into like his uh you know his delivery and like you know pitching for an extended period of time and then uh it’s been fun to watch I mean you you guys see this stuff is electric he’s got balls going left balls going right looking for backto back strikeouts uh we get to see the athlete here watch it watch it watch it oh he’s just sa and he’s a broadcaster come on doing play by play well I got I got to set up my next career if that suck Rust ever comes back hey what do you think I’m doing up here two and one the count on St in the pitch swing and a ground ball off the glove and now kicked by roas and the throw back to First is not in time Olen reached for it it deflected off his glove right into the path of ros’ running Lane but once the ball was deflected by Olen it doesn’t matter that it hits Roos here’s Turner with two aboard one out Trey Turner a base in in the left field that will score a run rohos is in back to backto back singles for Philadelphia they’re on the board it’s a 31 ball game well you’re putting your broadcaster hat on for uh the potential future career right but hopefully that’s a long ways from now brother we really appreciate your it’s fun to see that stuff back where we knew it could be and it’s just good for baseball when you’re back out there shoving buddy I appreciate it man that means a lot thank you thanks for the time Chris no problem guys thank you two for Brandon Marsh Marsh waves and misses a tough slider around the shoe tops to finish off the inning Turner gets the rbii to get the Phillies on the board we’re through two and a half it’s 3-1 Atlanta you said it in the first Suarez was hitting his spots alz and Ozuna just got you know good hits to drive in runs but since the home run from Ozuna it’s now six in a row retired two two pitch and Riley fouls it into the glove of Maran a really solid stretch after the Home Run SW Suarez has retired seven in a row the 28-year-old from Venezuela third year as a full-time starter getting it done Rafael Maran with a base hit the other way he knocks one in left for a two out single David do trying to find some contact 11 pitch inning from schwellenbach all strikes and he retires do to finish off the frame Olson’s the first base runner since the first inning for Atlanta he’s aboard on a walk that will bring up bouna and he sends one into left center field that’ll get down and it’ll be cut off by roas Olsen in the third Ozuna looking for the double he slides and he is saved another tight play in this game at second an armound st to make sure he’s all right and the Phillies say check it the front foot did come off the bag but by the time it did the back foot had already made contact with the bag after the call stand the runn safe not enough to overturn the call in the field so now second and third no one out for Shawn Murphy got him boy that is a huge pitch to get the first key out for Suarez with two in scoring position all four batters have seen three balls three of them have seen a full counts swing and a miss went back to the curveball got the Chase from Duval first strike out not on a fast B tonight but boy does it come at a big moment two away he’s able to get back back to back strikeouts and now with Aria coming up Caleb cam with a quick conference and Aria grounded out to the mound back in the second inning and they’re going to walk him so the base is loaded and it’s up to the number nine hitter Eli white it was a great decision great decision obviously Turner is there and what a Houdini act by Ranger Suarez a walk to olon a double from Ozuna he retires three in the next four great meeting he’s throwing six pitches tonight all about the same amount and that Sinker that is a pitch he added only in his third Major League start he also has moved since joining the Braves from the third base side of the rubber to the middle of the rubber this kid is learning on the Fly and learning rather well onew pitch check swing he went rung up by trip Gibson Roos takes off his helmet in disbelief strike out number five for schellenbach Turner breaks his bat flips it into right Duvall is over and it is a one two three fifth inning worked by schwellenbach Jared Kellick at the top of the order though goes right after the first offering and punches it into right center for a lead off single his second hit well here’s Azie after Kellick doubled in the first he got him in with a little base hit to right Kellick leads from first and the pitch lifted deep to left turning around Marsh and watching it Go Azie alz hadn’t hit a home run in two weeks he has hit one on backto back night and Atlanta extends the lead this is now 11 earned runs in his last two starts granted his ra is only about two and a half after those 11 runs but it’s still the toughest stretch for Suarez this season one two strike three called inside corner got him looking and Riley down on strikes for the third time now Riley is a guy who actually had good numbers against Ranger Suarez comes set his 1-1 broken bat roller towards third bom near the bag scoop throws on the Run he got it nicely done by Alec B and Murphy retired for the final out but the Braves get two more thanks to the Home Run by Aussie Al his eighth of the year that’s just 71 pitches for Spencer schwellenbach who is trying to go six innings for the third time in his seven major league starts oh off of schwellenbach over to third Riley be hand to play in time woohoo 153 three and Riley raced in and bare handed it and fired him out and what a reaction by Riley well that’s just four pitches to get the first two outs of this inning first pitch swinging and he ropes one into right field see I mean he threw what 25 out of 26 strikes they’re going to be aggressive ganos so wind up at second base on the wild pitch two out runner at second and the pitch to Clemens swing and a miss right over the top of that one going down and Away another good outing for the kid Spencer schellenbach schellenbach six Innings seven hits one run Allowed no walk six strikeouts had one wild pitch AJ Mentor in his second game since coming off the iil marfield bounces one off of the glove of M that right Red glove he tries to make a play and does four out number two make the shirts pitchers are athletes too we’ seen it all night tonight come on pump me up two down stick tutiven here from Minter doesn’t make the play but he stays with it that’s off the glove of the shortstop Aria trying to make a play 163 to close out a one 123 7eventh inning to outwalk Riley is aboard so now another Lefty will come up against SoDo here in Olen wow chase that one that’s what you’re looking for we’re going to the eighth hours getting late for the Phils that will bring Alec B to the plate bom really has been all or nothing here these last few days I mean it’s been multi-hit Goose blew him away 96 mph fast ball up and in swung on and missed by bone and two down in the eighth inning two two pitch to Marsh and it was coming way inside and low and he went around and menz with a pair of strikeouts to close out a scoreless eight 5-1 Atlanta Rell glacius comes in into a non-save spot tanos goes down looking on a 97 mph fast that brings rapael marad up to the plate Billy’s down to their final out Braves leading 5-1 they’ve not trailed all night tonight got got him looking strike three bravs win and even up this series at a game of piece we’ll have a rubber game tomorrow

  1. Nice bounce back win. Outstanding work from the pitching. Schwellenbach was really good today with 6 innings 1 run. Bullpen was excellent Minter, Jimenez, Iglesias. Solid game for the offense, the home run ball has been showing up here as Ozuna and Ozzie hit one out today. Good games for them and Kelenic. Lopez on the mound tomorrow looking for the series win. Let’s go braves #ForTheA

  2. Notes From the Game:

+ Of ALL the Braves Pitchers that could've faced the Phillies… SPENCER SCHWELLENBACH SILENCED HIS NAYSAYS, INCLUDING MYSELF! 6 Innings of 1-Run, 7-Hit Ball, Walking NONE and Striking Out 6 Phillies en route to VICTORY! Schwellenbach improves to 2-4 with an ERA at a Still-High 5.02! When Everyone Doubted Him… HE DELIVERED TONIGHT! WOW!

+ The Bullpen was Once Again FANTASTIC! Minter, Jimenez, and Iglesias Combined to FINISH the Final 3 Innings, Allowing NO Hits and Walking 1 while Striking Out 5 Phillies. Not a Save Situation, But Iglesias Pitched a PERFECT 9TH while Recording 2 Ks!

ROTATION TOTAL: 9 Innings, 1 Run, 7 Hits, 1 Walk, 11 Strike Outs, NO Home Runs Allowed!

The Braves' Offense Got to Ranger Suarez EARLY and LATE, and that DECIDED THE GAME!

+ A GREAT NIGHT FROM THE OZ-MAN! 2-4 with an RBI Single in the 1st, then a TWO-RUN SUPER MISSILE INTO THE LEFT FIELD SEATS! Ozzie Steps Up to a .266 Average, .743 OPS, and 8 Home Runs on the Season!

+ THE BIG BEAR CONTINUES TO RAKE IN THE BIG HITS! 2-4 with a TWO-RUN SUPER MISSILE INTO CHATTAHOOCHEE FALLS IN THE 1ST, and a Double in the 4th! Ozuna Stands in with a .298 Average, .950 OPS, and 23 Homers on the Year!

+ The ONLY Other Brave to Record a Hit was Jarred Kelenic, who went 2-4. Austin Riley, Matt Olson, and Orlando Arcia Recorded 1 Walk Each, Meaning Murphy, Duvall, and White all had 0'fers on the Night, Combining to go 0-11 with 4 Ks.

+ A WIN FOR THE BRAVOS THAT WAS DESPARATELY NEEDED! SCHWELLENBACH SILENCED THE DOUBTERS TONIGHT, The Bullpen CONTINUES to DELIVER, The Defense was SOLID, and the Offense DID WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE! DID WE NEED THIS VICTORY, AND IT CAME FROM BOTH THE MOST EXPECTED… AND UNEXPECTED!

+ Heck, the Rest of the NL East WON Tonight as well! This Gets the Braves back to 9 Games Behind Philadelphia, While the Mets, Nationals, and Marlins kept pace with Both Philly and Atlanta!

    TOMORROW:

THE FINAL ROUND of this 3-Game Showdown Between the Phillies and Braves will take place Under the Afternoon Skies of Truist Park.

Out of Options, the Phillies will turn to a Rookie of their Own: Michael Mercado, Who was Called Up Recently from AAA-Lehigh Valley. His Starting Debut against the Chicago Cubs was a Good One: 5 Innings of 1-Run, 2-Hit Ball, Walking 2 and Striking Out 4.

Meanwhile, The Braves will turn to THEIR NL CY YOUNG CANDIDATE to take up Battle Stations and Secure a NEEDED SERIES WIN against their Divisional Nemesis: REYNALDO LOPEZ. His Last Start was his First BUMPY Start since Memorial Day; A No-Decision against the San Francisco Giants, In which he allowed 2 Runs on 4 Hits, Walking 4 and Striking Out 6, and not being able to Finish the 5th Inning.

    THE SITUATION IS CRITICAL.

Can LOPEZ and the Braves Fight their Way to a NEEDED SERIES WIN Against their DIVISIONAL NEMESIS?

Or Will Mercado and the Phillies Return the Favor to Atlanta for Winning a Series at Citizens Bank Park in April?

We're Going to Find Out at 1:35 P.M. EDT on NBC Sports Philadelphia (Phillies), Bally Sports Southeast (Braves), and MLB Network (Out-Of-Market ONLY)!

    SoundFX09, Signing Out!
